First Look: Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland
First look on the upcoming 2010 Tim Burton film, Alice in Wonderland.

“It has been Burton-ized” is how producer Richard Zanuck describes the director’s vision of the Lewis Carroll classic. Many elements are familiar, from the enigmatic Caterpillar (Alan Rickman) to the fierce Jabberwock (Christopher Lee). But none has been presented in this sort of visually surreal fashion.
“We finished shooting in December after only 40 days,” Zanuck says. Now the live action is being merged with CG animation and motion-capture creatures, and then transferred into 3-D.
The traditional tale has been freshened with a blast of girl power, courtesy of writer Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast). Alice, 17, attends a party at a Victorian estate only to find she is about to be proposed to in front of hundreds of snooty society types. Off she runs, following a white rabbit into a hole and ending up in Wonderland, a place she visited 10 years before yet doesn’t remember.

Among those who welcome her back is the Mad Hatter, a part tailor-made for Johnny Depp as he collaborates with Burton for the seventh time. “This character is off his rocker,” Zanuck says.
Aussie actress Mia Wasikowska, 19, best known for HBO’s In Treatment, has the coveted title role. “There is something real, honest and sincere about her,” Zanuck says. “She’s not a typical Hollywood starlet.”
Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen
Wonderland was a peaceful kingdom until the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) took power. “The creatures are ready to revolt and waiting for Alice to help them,” says Zanuck. Bonham Carter has a digitally enhanced swelled head to play the domineering crimson ruler, who likes nothing better than to scream “Off with their heads!”
There is the usual Burton-esque ghoulishness (Helena Bonham Carter’s Red Queen, whose favorite retort is “Off with their heads,” has a moat filled with bobbing noggins), but Zanuck assures most kids can handle it. “The book itself is pretty dark,” he notes. “This is for little people and people who read it when they were little 50 years ago.”

The White Queen (Anne Hathaway), who was overthrown by her sister, “is beautiful but over the top. She doesn’t walk. She floats. She’s very eccentric,” Zanuck says.
Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland will be on theaters, March 5, 2010.

Be aware that I will laugh out loud at your face when I start to hear some “Oh noes! Tim Burton with Disney? Wtfblahblah” comments. I’ll share some little tidbit first. Tim Burton had worked with Disney before, Nightmare Before Christmas is just an example of that.
Next, I literally am surprised to see Tim Burton behind this and for sure, the film will follow the original book, which is dark and all. That just made me excited sfm. And lol I hope this will scare the hell out of me. I think his work with Charlie and the Chocolate factory was really loyal to the original novel. So I hope this one will be pulled off successfully and be just like the original too, not the previous adaptation.
Johnny Depp looks utterly… scary O___o. Not sexy XD. Though his collaboration with Tim Burton is like, done a million times already, I still had never gotten tired of it. I don’t know why, but I really love how Tim Burton pulls off something really edgy in every film that makes me really enjoy them all ^^. I think this will be either “super-awesome” or “super-bleargh”. But I’m totally looking forward to this ^^.

I’m slightly surprised that Alice is 17 in this one. That should be interesting.
Pfft…and no matter how crazy Johnny Deep can look in makeup, he always pulled of the greatest expressions and looked good in a top hat to me. xD
Finally, I don’t remember very well if there was a “White Queen†in the book. I’ll have to check on that but Anne Hatheway’s thick eyebrows are distracting, especially against all that white. o.O;
Hmm, I’m sure I’ll like it. I didn’t watch Charlie and the Chocolate factory yet but this one, I can like purely for all the CG/3-D animation work that it’s promising. ^^

Another Alice in Wonderland movie. Personally, I hate it when people make good books into movies. And what up with the White Queen. There was no White Queen in neither Alice in Wonderland, nor Alice Through the Looking Glass.

OMG. Johnny Depp playing a quirky character… That’s new~. Helena Carter’s unproportional head looks awesome XD!!! Probably the freakiest she had ever look among all the other “weird” roles she had that I had ever seen. And lol, I think Anne Hathaway should have dyed her eyebrows platinum as well because the dark brows are just distracting O___o.
But still, it’s Tim Burton so it’s guaranteed awesome. :omg:

Adding a little bit of a background story and a few more characters to Alice’s adventures didn’t do as much as i thought it would for the story. Truthfully i wanted to love this movie, I’m a huge Tim Burton/ Johnny Depp fan. But this just didn’t do it for me. I came out of the theater wondering if it were just the mediocre script or the director who had failed to meet my expectations. The best part of this movie is probably Johnny Depps portrayal of the mad hatter who truly is mad. However, Mia Wasikowska presents Alice in a dull manner that had me checking my watch every ten or fifteen minutes. Overall this film isn’t awful, but at the same time its no masterpiece, for an interesting film to look at I suppose this would be an alright choice, however if you want a great story and compelling acting, you might want to check out something else, because this isn’t the movie you’re looking for.
