    I just want to say:

    Precure Macross.

    That is all.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I love the transformations in Delta! Much like Symphogear.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

I have a confession: I have yet to catch up on Delta. T_T

        • BlackBriar says:

Same. I haven’t gone past the first episode. Was distracted by nearly everything else airing but have been following Kuromukuro regularly. Going to need some time to get up to date with Delta.

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

            Delta is basically:

            SMAP Delta vs AKB Delta

Oh well, I guess even Macross rolls with the times.

          • Foshizzel says:

Delta is very fun! I still have my fingers crossed for another season or 2nd cour announcement…

Kuromukuro is a bit slower, but they have another cour so of course things will develop slower.

        • Foshizzel says:

          Doooooooooooo it

  2. Painboy says:

    Itty bitty mech feet.

    • Foshizzel says:

Delta mechs or Kuromukuro mechs? Both have tiny feet haha

      • Painboy says:

Kuromukuro. I just find it a funny design choice. Not bad, just kind of amusingly odd.

I actually have not been watching Macross Delta. I wasn’t able to find it on any the various anime sites I subscribe to and some of the trailers left me a little leary. I understand that the songs are part of its thing but it can get grating and occasionally ridiculous if not handled well.

        • Foshizzel says:

Ahhh gotcha! Well Ariaki Okada does the mechanical designs and I don’t like his designs lol and Kuromukuro’s CG isn’t that great.

That sucks! More people need to watch Delta.

        • Highway says:

I think that Macross Delta has handled the musical part of the show tremendously well. Is it a little ridiculous? Of course. But so are instantly transforming planes and Macross Missle Spam. To me, Delta has the same kind of excitement watching it that Cross Ange had. Stuff’s going to happen, sometimes it will be bad, usually the good guys will win, and most of the time it will be fun. Plus, they’ve also got the songs in my sweet spot for things I’d listen to.

Kuromukuro: This is very much a PA Works does Mecha, and I think a proper response to TTGL in that Real Giant Robots vs. Super Robots vibe i.e. not tripping balls all the time.

True to their style, they make the landscape and the people even more important than anything the action could dream up. For many PA fans this is one more place to put on the “pilgrimage” list. In that respect Koharu is in the running for “most precious kid” award with Chinatsu.

But all and all the action is downplayed in favor of character, and I do like the switcheroo they played with both Ken and Yukia cause one of them “fell into the cockpit” in a way, and it’s fun to see them discover just who is in charge.

    • Foshizzel says:

That’s what I always find nice about the mech genre as a whole because it’s got a few sub-genres like Eureka 7, Code Geass and Macross types where it’s all about the character development and not about powerful mechs and the flip side you have the “super robots” with stuff like Captain Earth, TTGL and past Gundam series that tend to focus on the mech on mech fights.

Chinatsu is fun and one of many perfect examples of a “kid” character and Koharu is right up there with and I like how she interacts with Ken.

PA Works probably wanted to avoid the typical mecha trope of MC falls into cockpit because it’s one of many things Gundam is mocked for lol…

Macross Δ: Well for the past two months or so we’ve been graced with memories of Earth, Wind, and Fire. Now if you were born after the time, you’ve been introduced. No matter, you should go back and listen to the music. I don’t really want to get people down, but in between Bowie and Prince, E,W, & F’s founder Maurice White passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s. I find it so odd and wonderful and lively that his music with be remembered through one of this show’s signature pieces.

But let’s get back up! This is Space Opera, baby! And I love it. Gundam was cool with it’s relativistic physics and stuff, but dammit, I want protoculture, and space warps and singing that literally changes the world. Fun show, and I’m in the crush zone with Freyja, she’s adorable and has a strong sense of purpose.

    • Foshizzel says:

It’s hard to say if it was done to honor them or if the music team is a fan of the older music? Either way it’s great! You should listen to this track someone made.

Well Gundam has its place in anime history along side Macross and both borrow elements from each other like Gundam Seed having an idol who sings and past Macross’s focusing on war elements, but yeah i’m glad both are different because most don’t want political stuff and would rather have idols.

Next time, Agents (not!)Mulder and (not!)Scully guest star on Kuromukuro…

  6. BlackBriar says:

Kuromukuro: Going in without expectations, this series is doing well. A surprise indeed since I abstained from anything P.A Works related for as long as I can remember.

Kennosuke and Yukina make an interesting pair-up as neither have anything in common with the other due to being from different eras. Kennosuke can be too loud at times, though.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah its going places and as far as other PA Works series are concerned this is way different than their usual stuff even thou the characters kinda feel like they are the same from past PA Works series at least to me…

Ken does get loud, but the pairing is great so far! I hope something develops between them soon.

      • Highway says:

See, it doesn’t feel that different from a usual PA Works show to me. Instead of making an anime or having a singing club, they are driving robots around. The activity is different, but the overal feel, art, characterization, music, even plot, is very much in line with what they do.

  7. Namaewoinai says:

Kuromukuro: Bah…I Got nothing into this, really…(As in Yeah, I don’t watch this…so…Sorry!)

Macross Δ: Well, I got nothing on to this too…Cuz for me, I would still stick on the old ones (The Old Marcoss and Plus) But on the 9th episode gives me somehow a smile so…yeah

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

      Obviously someone had pineapple salad.

    • Foshizzel says:

Oh? Not into Kuromukuro? I think it’s easy to follow and looks fantastic, but the CG mechs are a bit eh.

LOL yet you know about the bit wtf moment of episode 10? I guess you were spoiled or saw something about it?

I think the Netflix practice of screening all its shows in 1 go (promarily for its main binge watcher subscribers in the West) kind of hurts the show’s current popularity, since most Western viewers won’t even be aware of it until it airs in its entirety later on. Netflix Japan does do weekly screenings with English subs, but you need a Japanese VPN for that.

I also think Kuromukuro ‘s slower pacing and gradual reveals kinda kills interest in it too, given today’s viewers want a premise they can quickly and easily digest in 1 go. No wonder everyone prefers the bombastic, action packed fights of Kabaneri this season.

    • skylion says:

I won’t go into Netflix’s business model. I don’t know enough, and frankly I could care less how other people watch their stuff and the supposed effect it has on them. Right now the content delivery model is in an experimentation phase, and once distributors find out where their markets are, and how to leverage the best deals for themselves and their markets we’ll see a more solid, unified model of getting shows. But for right now, yeah, it blows waiting several months on Netflix, but the good news is you get to stay up til the next sunrise, catching up.

At this point it looks like I might be getting negative. But I hope I wont make myself come out like that. In so far as “today’s viewers go”? Blow ’em….All it means is that the spaces for discussing a show like Kurmukuro will depopulate and gravitate to the spaces that gather for Kabaneri. It’s good that a show doesn’t cater exactly to your tastes or whims, and has the guts to follow it’s one pace rather than just assume that it’s audience with switch off if “something” doesn’t happen every ten seconds. It’s not like a show like Kuro “takes away” anything from a view…just go watch something else. By the same token, Kabaneri doesn’t “take away” anything from a viewer either.

    • Highway says:

I think that Netflix is missing the boat by not simulcasting Kuromukuro. The problem is that the time for discussion is during the broadcast run. People speculate when things are coming up, and only discuss a little after it’s finished. Kuromukuro’s audience is wanting to watch it now, worldwide. I don’t think it’s due to an exclusivity issue, I think it’s just that Netflix likes to drop these whole seasons on people, and I just don’t think that helps their mindshare. “Hey, those last 8 episodes of House of Cards were great, I watched them in one night. Now let’s talk about it for a day at work before we go on to something else for the next 6 months.”

I just don’t think it’s a good business model. I can understand not hewing to cours, or to seasons, or something like that. I don’t understand diminishing your own impact.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah it was delayed for a while so IDK how Netflix works in Japan, but ah well I have other sneaky ways to watch stuff…

    • zztop says:

I don’t think Netflix intends to change anytime soon – thy commissioned a new Voltron cartoon series (designs by the same person who did Nickelodeon’s Avatar) but released the entire season in 1 go so people have the choice of binge watching at once.

I heard Netflix’s attempt to follow a weekly broadcast was badly received by its subscribers, so from a business standpoint they’ll now think it’s too risky to try again.
