First Impression – Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut

Time for another sword and boob series~

winter15-fosh After leaving the worlds of Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry, Gakusen Toshi Asterisk and Taimadou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai were onto the next boob and sword show Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut! Not to be confused with Shingeki no Bahamut: Manaria Friends which is the spin off of Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis which I wish was out now and yes I know there is another season of Asterisk later this year, but as far as this new harem goes I don’t have any hopes for it being good…

Swords & Boobs

Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut (7)

Were off to a good start already…

Yes I have created my own genre tag for these types of series because most of the time they feel the same even with Fall 2015 with Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry, Gakusen Toshi Asterisk and Taimadou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai since all of them contain swords, ecchi elements and lots of girls around one dude and I know most would argue that Asterisk, Calvary and 35 Shiken Shoutai aren’t really “harems” since only one or two characters actually have real feelings or is somewhat attracted to the main character. With that out of the way onto Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut! Things start off like any typical harem series with our main character Lux Arcadia falling into a bath house filled with lots of girls where he just so happens to land right on top of Lisesharte Atismata? The creators of this series must have gone to the famous ToLoveRu Darkness school of making anime and of course Lux is sent to jail because it was totally his fault for falling through the bath house ceiling right? We also learn that his family was overthrown in a rebellion years ago and now members of his family like Airi Arcadia have to wear some strange black collars? I guess it’s a way to say THESE PEOPLE ARE EVIL! So yeah I guess Lux and Airi will always be walking reminders of that rebellion and I assume they can’t just remove those collars because its magic? I’m sure we will learn more about that later on. As a side note I bet that the Arcadia family was framed for whatever happened in the past? I know we saw a short flashback with Lux talking to someone from the shadows? Maybe it’s his evil brother or is it the spirit of the black sword Lux refuses to use? Either way at least the mystery about the black sword and collars is somewhat interesting.

Mecha Action?

Time for another Infinite Stratos?

While we got the dumb harem antics with the bath house and seeing people naked Lisesharte challenges Lux to a duel to prove his innocence? Sure lets go with that, but how do they duel in this series? With GIANT ROBOTS of course much like Infinite Stratos in fact I think the first episode of Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut is just like the first two episodes of Infinite Stratos; however the battle is cut short after Lisesharte and Lux get attacked by a random gargoyle and of course this means Lux and Lisesharte have to stop fighting each other and team up to fight the monster! Yeah that whole fight scene was really stupid, but hey it was kind of nice because it finally got the two of them to quit arguing with each other and work as a team. The next day Lisesharte shows off her pantsu to Lux err I mean shows off her crazy tattoo? I guess we will learn more about that later?

Extra Harem Fun

Lux is a really confused guy.

End thoughts

So yeah that was quite the episode, but was it actually good? I mean sure it wasn’t entirely trashy and those bath house moments never really lasted long besides the one moment with Lisesharte alone in the bath with her saying Lux’s name while sliding her hand between her legs? Wait what? I guess she is alone and all that so why not? Besides that I was surprised to see those random Infinite Stratos mecha suits! So are we in the future or something? Where did they get the tech for those suits or are we just calling those suits magical armor and not mechs? Before I wrap up I did like the character designs and they were originally from Kasuga Ayumu who worked on Gonna be the Twin-Tails and Joukamachi no Dandelion which looked great, but for Saijaku Muhai no Bahamut they were done by Kurosawa Keiko who did designs for the worst anime ever created Re: Hamatora…anyway I plan on watching more of this; however I don’t plan on reviewing it weekly.

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

I didn’t think the show was that bad, partly because I kept thinking “well, this is better than Infinite Stratos.” It did get kinda off the rails with Lise’s apparent fantasizing about Lux, cause he’s not that hunky. Anyway, it’s the kind of show I watch, even if it’s not good. 🙂

Looks good enough. The usual stuff seen in a handful of other series but nothing that would instantly repel and have one blacklisting it until the end of time. As the OP showed, the lead is more than he appears and that may be a matter worth looking forward to.

This show’s pretty kinky on one account: Having the female lead Lisesharte Atismata branded in such a private area. Sure, there are shows with raging fanservice, girls completely naked but the fact she showed something like that while still clothed somehow gave a particularly perverted feel. Going by what she confided, news of a tattoo on a royal like her is bound to cause a scandal.

A coup d’état happened not even a decade ago, therefore it’s amazing the family members of the previous empire were allowed to live at all. When revolutions are brought up as a topic, I think most would’ve expected all prior traces eradicated. Or I guess this civilization is being sadistic by letting live in shame. Much like Lux getting mocked for being a former prince.

Character designs are by Kasuga Ayumu, who illustrated Ore no Twintails, and created the Joukamachi no Dandelion manga.

I assume that when Lux starts attending school as the only male there, we’ll get all the infodump about that enemy and these battle suits as per the standard LN brand of exposition and world building. They wanted to get all the action in the first episode, though they did leave out why Lux was in the roof in the first place(it was a job). He sort of ran away from the bath before he got captured and evaded some students using those mechs without deploying his own. Would have been better to show that to show how slippery and skilled Lux is at evading and not fighting.

It’s not bad but it’s not really that good as well. Lux is just a so-so character. Wimpy and a pushover but is dependable in a fight and a nice guy, sort of. I wish they got a different seiyuu for him. I know it’s typical for some women to voice males but I would have liked it if they got a male to voice Lux. Hanae Natsuki or probably Matsuoka Yoshitsugu would have fit him.
Lise’s seiyuu is decent enough for someone I’ve never heard of until now. Other voice cast are okay as well. It’s just Lux’s VA that I think was a miscast.

Standard stuff for a magical fantasy action harem LN adaptation show. I’ve read what’s available of the translated volumes of the LN and it’s decent. I don’t dislike these types of stories even if they’re a dime a dozen. It’s not as bad as Infinite Stratos for sure despite its similarities, plus it’s hard to pull off something as bad as IS. Plus it’s Kasuga Ayumu’s art, and he draws stuff really well.

One thing that bothers me in Ayumu’s art is that when he draws females with flat chests, they’re totally flat and I mean, flat as a washboard. Aika in Twintails and Akane in Dandelion are the prime examples. Here it would be Krulcifer(best girl).

    • skylion says:

Ayumu not only draw’s female characters flat chested, he draws them as if he modeled them only on pipe cleaners! So thin! Eat a sammich!!!!

…and Krulcifer? ::facepalms:: Do LN editors ask for the stupidest, most chuuni names a writer can come up with, or are the damn names just pre-made, and they just copy and paste the stupidest one’s in?

There’s a bit of an interesting story going on underneath all the “Well, it’s better than IS” bluster. I like that the two exiles are of questionable loyalty at best. I hope they play that out more as the series progresses, cause it was a bit to easy going this episode.

  6. JPNIgor says:

Yeaaaah… That really did look like Infinite Stratos… Even the first battle looks like Orimura x Cecilia, with the detachable guns flying around.

Well, I have to agree that the plot looks a lot more interesting, with the war and the dark sword. This kind of setting with old-looking buildings and hi-tech always tick me off, though.

I think the anime team had to work very hard in order not to put one fresh element in this trite setup. Must be why there wasn’t any energy left over for at least writing this trite material well.

I’ll try to give this the three episode trial, but unless it improves considerably or I can find a place to watch it uncensored, it’s going to get dropped. And even with uncensored boobs and butts it might get dropped if does nothing more than hit all the worn-out tropes.
