Today I saw a shirt that said “Dio is Cheaper Than Therapy”…but then someone moved the rack and I realized it actually said “Cardio is Cheaper Than Therapy.” It was very disappointing. Unlike this episode!
After 2 seasons of waiting, Dio has finally shown his face. It looks like the rest of the show will be nothing but pure Jotaro gang vs Dio fun (with maybe a small epilogue at the end to let us know Holly is okay or whatever). I’m super stoked that Dio is getting this much screentime after what feels like a lifetime of waiting. Some of the fights leading up to this were great, some were good, but a lot of them were rather plain and mediocre. I almost dropped this show several times, but now my patience will be rewarded with the ultimate payoff. ZA WARUDO!
Dio is an iconic villain. First of all, we’ve seen just how absolutely shitty he can be from season 1 where he made Jonathan’s life a nightmare. So he’s already got a track record going. Having him come back is all the more terrifying because we already know what he’s capable of before we even see him fight Jotaro. Second of all, he’s portrayed as having such a pitch-black soul that simply standing within a certain radius of him makes your blood run cold. One look and you’re ready to piss your pants.
The mix of power and beauty makes him dangerously seductive, especially for those who want to stay alive. Finally seeing his face and the true extent of his power doesn’t take away any of that mystique. In fact, his Stand seems to be just as fearsome and powerful as you would expect from the big boss at the end of the show. I mean, I still don’t know what it does exactly, but it seems to be some pretty heavy stuff. As Polnareff says, it ain’t something as easy to grasp as super speed.

Whatever his Stand is, it’s hella strong and Dio is already going on a crazy rampage. I love how he didn’t want just any old car – he went for the fanciest one he could find. Then he forces a Senator to slaughter a sidewalk full of pedestrians and go completely insane. It was an auxiliary part to the fight, but I liked it a lot because it emphasized just how powerful Dio is. Not just his power, but also how he feels absolutely entitled to do whatever he wants. Humans are just ants for him to crush under his shoe. In fact, if I could think of a lesser being than an ant right now, I’m sure it would be a more accurate metaphor.
This is shaping up to be everything I expected. It’s taking the entire Jotaro crew just to get an inkling of an idea of what Dio’s power is. Even then, they might die just trying to acquire knowledge – and this is before they even actually hunker down and try to kill him. Right now everyone is testing the waters against Dio, but that’s a deadly game in of itself. I’m especially worried about Kakyoin and Polnareff, who seem to be letting their personal vendettas against Dio be getting to them. I’d hate to see any more death flags being raised because they’ve run out of characters I don’t care about to kill off.

I wonder how much bait and switch the writers built into Dio’s Stand. It seems really obvious what the weakness is from the get go. It’s also riffing on irony pretty hard; we been trying to get to him all this time, and now we can’t even get near him! With that in mind, and all the talk they had about ranged vs. up-close attacks, could we be looking at something like “next level” Stands?
One other thing to keep in mind about RL Dio sightings, is that they could be referring to Ronnie James…

Common, Jotaro beat up Steely Dan and Captain Tenille for heavens sake.

I pretty much know all the references, and grew up with them as well. Why would you think I didn’t? For most, Captain and Tenille are obscure, for me it was part of my 70s landscape. They were actually quite nice….I’m hoping, as the show continues to a new adventure, we can meet Gypsy, Tramp, and Thief…which is another cheesy 70s reference. I’m also wish David Productions would use some of the JoJo money to continue Inu X Boku SS, but that’s probably just me…

I’m so tempted to say it’s something to do with warping time, but that seems too simple for him. It’s really hard for me to tell what’s a ruse and what are real facts about his Stand. Guess we’ll have to wait and see…

Dio really is the glammed out and improved version of Fate’s Gilgamesh. Both are reprehensible monsters, but only Dio can pull off elf shoes and heart knee pads

At least Dio is creative. He tortures a senator mentally and physically, then treated him like a missle. Gilgamesh just talks down people and shoots weapons at people.

Once the victim is near to its user (DIO) and escape from it, it will return to their current place (poof). but this is just only a fraction of its power, they will be more soon…

Sadly I already got spoiled with what ZA WARUDO’s power is and it’s pretty ridiculous to see what Dio is doing to show off that power. That’s one way to use that power I guess.
