This was once again a very good episode, not as good as last week but still very enjoyable.

We finally get to meet other members of the USE as well as reunite with Yuki and Marito. I have to say that I’m proud of Marito, he is back to being able to lead in battle and is able to push the memories back. I like the fact that they took a good amount of time to get him the help he needed for his PTSD. It might not be something he is ever truly rid of, but it’s no longer controlling his life. He’s even given up alcohol for the most part. (but then there’s that pitiful excuse for a “doctor”…but I’ll get onto how pissed I am about that later) Now if only this show would just let him win a battle for once without the all powerful Inaho stepping in. Sigh…

Anyway, I also enjoy seeing Yuki and finding that she kind of went a little off after her brother’s brush with death. Perhaps seeing him so near death practically haunts her and that’s why she’s taken to drinking? She’s pestered command to remove him from duty so much to the point where they reassigned her to just get rid of her and it looks like it may have put a strain on her relationship with Inaho.

The battle with Count Mazuurek was good but a little anticlimactic. It’s nice to see a count that doesn’t think of Terrans with disdain but that just wants to steal Earth’s resources in peace. 😀

But once again, despite his short screen time, it’s the newly christened Count Slaine Troyard that is the best part of the episode. He falsely smiles in the face of Princess Lemrina who reveals that it was Saazbaum that helped her once her family had died and that she was the result of an affair her father had had on the moon and also reveals that it was her father that was responsible for Heaven’s Fall, which led to his death. And of course the deaths of billions of Terrans and the utter destruction of much of the Earth. Good going Martians. … *roll eyes*

Anyway, Slaine knows that the Counts and other Martians don’t care for him and are just bidding their time to discredit and destroy him. So Slaine makes a move to gain their loyalty and admiration, not through words but through actions. He uses his intelligence and cunning to find out about the movements of the UFE base, Trident, and also knows that Deucalion has left the base and is moving back to Earth. He uses the debris from the previous battle as cover and moves quickly through the debris to attack the base single handed. He destroys their new munitions cargo that was just being shipped in, which sets up a chain reaction that destroys the entire base.

His actions gain him the admiration of the Martian base and even some of the counts. With his popularity and position assured for the moment, as no one would dare attack him after that show of cunning and force. His plan going off without a hitch, Slaine goes back to his own territory on the Moon to plan his next move.

Inaho, our other MC, basically does what he does every episode, which is saving the day and explain stuff. Though I have to say that that scene in the beginning with him waking up and trying to cover his sister with the blanket was a very sweet scene and one that I’ve seen the most emotion come out of him ever.
He seems now determined to do something about Slaine, what that could be, I don’t know.

Does anyone get the feeling that Slaine is more Inaho’s rival than the other way around? Inaho seems to think about the man and his movements a lot more than Slaine does with him. Slaine seems to be thinking more about his plans and dealing with Vers than he thinks about Inaho.

That is what I think one of the key differences I notice between Inaho and Slaine. Slaine is more of a strategist while Inaho is more of a tactician. Inaho can analyze the weaknesses in his opponents and use that to his advantage to defeat them. However, we’ve never seen him plan beyond a single battle or a particular opponent. He’s not planning in terms of the war overall, but that particular battle.
Slaine on the other hand, sees more of the big picture rather than the individual fighters. He’s planning for the war and its consequences as a whole, rather than one single battle. For that, he leaves it up to Harklight to do the calculations and research and then he uses that to make a plan for that particular battle that will serve his overall plan in regards to VERS.

Anyway, still a good episode and I can’t wait until the next episode.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

I propose Slaine and Inaho marry so that they can rule the new Martian Empire together! That would appease our yaoi brigade.

      • Irenesharda says:

Hmm, they’re okay together, but the again, Slaine has been paired with practically every character in the series. 😛

      • Nerazim says:

        the ultimate power-couple!
        no more need for aseylum-hime!
inaho can just convince the top brass that attacking the martians is futile!
        INAHO TROYARD

    • Irenesharda says:

Oh, I forgot to add, that scene with the doctor and the alcohol…That part pissed me off. Why the heck would you purposefully offer a recovering alcoholic his past liquor of choice like that? Especially when he looked like he was doing so well? I kind of thought this before, when he was going against doctor/patient privilege to give Darzana that session tape, but now I’m sure this idiot is a quack! What happened, did all the other doctors get killed off during the war and so the only one that’s left is the one that got thrown out of medical school? Ugh…

      • BlackBriar says:

My assumption is he’s thinking since everything is getting destroyed and principals like doctor/patient privilege is going out the door in the process, you can get away with pretty much anything.

        • Irenesharda says:

NO THEY DON’T! If doctors are just going to give up their principles and everything else they’re standing on just because of war, then there’s really no point anymore. “Hey it’s war, so we can forget the Hippocratic Oath!” By that logic, army doctors can do whatever the heck they want!

          Ugh!

Ange: Cross Ange’s getting a game for the PS Vita in Spring 2015.
    http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-01-28/cross-ange-tr-ps-vita-game-tv-spot-has-narration-by-ange/.83792

You play as original character Naomi. Gameplay is a mix of battling DRAGONs, customizing Paramail, and befriending other Arzenal Normas for extra support in battle.

    • BlackBriar says:

I’ve seen this article. Wondering how much of the game will stay true to the series since Ange won’t be the protagonist.

  4. Namaewoinai says:

sigh…that tusk guy is suppose to be a gentleman but why do i see like this anyways…man it start to irritating me so much, please no more of that, they are in a middle of a serious drama and a hard fight ya know, but, hey i don’t blame ange or tusk for this…i think the one to be blamed is the “script writers” or That Director (yup the director, and not fukuda IMO). Seriously why did they like to had sex jokes like this…UGH…really?

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Right now, I cannot care anymore. Everytime when Cross Ange seems to be going in the right direction again, it turns into a poor excuse for an Ero-anime. Instead of developing important characters like Embryo.

      • zztop says:

Would you say this makes Ange better or worse than Valvrave?

      • zztop says:

ED. Obviously because the creative heads seem to think more blatant sex jokes will bring in more attention and sales.
A prime example is that Testament anime. Clearly once the censors are removed, the show will be one step away from becoming a full-blown H-anime.

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

Valvrave was the one about a bunch of schoolkids declaring independence on a spacestation right? The Japanese sorta hunger games in space? I will have to leave that upto someone who watched it.

Blatant sex jokes are fine… except when it gets reused too much. And I thought someone was covering the New Testament anime? Let’s put it this way, there is no absolute sane way I would buy a show just for the decensored version if it was crap. Uncensored only is not worth my $$$/yen/rouble. (Mmm.. Izuna-tan~~ Kurousagi-chan~~ Azuki-chan~~)

          • Highway says:

I think the point of using the same face-in-crotch joke is that it makes it not a sex joke. I actually think it’s been hilarious that they put it in in the middle of the serious situations. To me it helps the show not be too serious, because I don’t think that would serve the show very well. There are plenty of shows that are serious as a heart attack, and plenty of shows that are just totally goofy. There aren’t many that put a little bit of goofiness in. It’s supposed to make you facepalm, that’s what the point of putting it in is.

Personally, I still think Cross Ange is great to watch. It’s not ever going to be that serious exploration of whatever McGuffin conflict they’ve got going on. And I like that. It makes it an exciting show without dragging in a bunch of high tension.

        • BlackBriar says:

After that recent episode of Testament, it certainly would look that way. Especially with Maria hanging around.

      • Namaewoinai says:

        Well…yeah…i hope…

and yeah…that guy…let’s see what that guy is capable of…

Aldnoah.Zero: The only way to get power is to seize it and Slaine has done just that. Now that he’s shown his worth, those stuck up nobles don’t dare oppose him directly.

The battle against that newly introduced knight, Mazuurek, was anticlimactic but interesting it was to have a Martian that didn’t harbor a huge amount of animosity against Terrans. If any at all. It also shows he’s not content with his methods of conduct. Actions have to be taken, violent or not. I bet it there was a way to get things done without stirring conflict, he’d easily choose that.

    • Irenesharda says:

Yes, I’m pretty sure that Mazuurek will be important later on. He does seem to be quite different than the others.

The fact he’s still alive indicates something. Though there’s the feeling he’ll expire the moment his usefulness runs its course.

PS: Are you up for another recommendation of mine? This time it’s a manga I think you’ll be interested in. The name’s “Seraph of the End (Owari no Serafu)” Try the first five chapters and let me know what you think.

        • Irenesharda says:

Hmm, sounds interesting, I’ll check that out and tell you what I think.

        • Irenesharda says:

Hey, I was trying to remember that manga you recommended a while ago, and completely by chance I came across a series that was coming out next season and was being composed by Sawano. I’ve become a fan of his so I checked out what the show was about and low and behold, the summary sounded awfully familiar and I realized that it was the same series that you had recommended to me, but that they are making an anime adaptation of it! 😛

So, since my policy is that when at all possible, watch the anime first and then read the manga, you shall be sure the anime will be on my watch list next season! I haven’t seen the PV yet, but the art looks really good.

  6. BlackBriar says:

Cross Ange: That Aura rescue mission was doomed before it could even start. A full scale assault this early on had nowhere to go but south.

With Julio out of the picture, I’d say Embryo nominated himself the new ruler of the Misurugi empire. Now it’s clear why he saved some of the Norma girls during the attack on Arzenal. A means to an end to brainwash them. What I didn’t see coming was Salia leading them. She must have had a falling out with Jill.
