Who will you choose Aoba?!

Woooooo! Time for more Durararararara on Metanorn and things are getting good lately with all the new characters joining in on the weekly adventures and overall mystery, but anyway lets get down to business this week.

————————————–

Friends and Family

DurararaS2 (4)

Shizuo inner thoughts-“Who are these people?!”

When we last left off Celty was about to take a new transport job and the Orihara sisters were taking a ride with Dotachin and his special crew; however this week brings in Aoba, Mikado and Anri who just so happened to need help avoiding some shady people! So they got pulled into things along with Celty who were all being chased by a wild biker gang?! That whole setup was CRAZY and strange seeing all of these characters hanging out together, but for a character like Celty who doesn’t have very many close friends outside of Shizuo, Shinra, Anri and Makodo. During the chase I thought it was great how everyone that Celty has come into contact with through her life mean something special to her or is that due to Shinra knowing a lot of people from his various jobs? Either way I liked how he decided to throw a random hot-pot party and invited all of their friends along with two guests I was not expecting to see!? Seij and Mika also were invited to hang out? I can only remember the two of them being kinda freaky to me, but maybe they have changed a lot since those days? Either way just seeing all of these oddball characters in one room was fantastic.

Mysteries yo!

DurararaS2 (6)

Cat boys? Wut?

While the family stuff was more for the feels we also had some random plot points developing like the interesting pairing of Ruri and Kasuka who are kinda stuck together for now and I totally can picture a romance developing between them! So I have to ask was she the one in the random suit of armor that assisted Celty in her escape from the biker gang? I assume it was since we saw a shot of that armor in her room right? I can’t wait until they reveal what she really is later, but I will take a stab and say vampire because according to her bio she hates garlic? Then again I don’t really know at this point so ill stick around and see if they tell us. Other than that we have the whole mystery around Aoba err Izumii? I noticed his “gang” called him that and he doesn’t really like that name because it reminds him of his brother? I wonder about that, but more importantly why he is so interested in Mikado? I swear Aoba somehow knows Mikado is the Dollars leader and again who is that brother he mentioned? I don’t recall anyone else being around Mikado in the past other than Kida and some random students, but I guess one of those random students could know about the inner workings of the Dollars? Oh and he also wants to get rid of Izaya? All I have to say is good luck! I don’t think anyone can get rid of him that easily…

Extra DURARARARA

DurararaS2 (1)

Celty loves to troll.

DurararaS2 (8)

hnnnnggggg

DurararaS2 (3)

These two are having a great time.

DurararaS2 (5)

SO CUTE-O!!!

End thoughts

Another fantastic episode of Durarara even though there wasn’t anything major going on to push the plot along besides the ending bit with Aoba talking about his master plan to “remove” Izaya which I think is impossible so good luck bro, but there were tiny bits of fun with the Orihara sisters hanging out with Egor? The seventh most feared assassin from Russia? Maybe he will make for a great body guard er I mean errand boy for them huh? Also did anyone else like me die from laughing when his sisters crashed his special chat room session? That had me laughing so much, but just like typical younger siblings they always want to do whatever the older sibling  is doing too! So what did you enjoy this week? Personally I loved seeing the Hot-Pot party and anything with the Orihara sisters.

So awesome and over the top hahaha. That moment when all those weird characters gathered to fight the bike gang was so ridiculous and the bgm made it much more ridiculous.

It’s obvious that Ruri was the one on the armor. Celty even mentioned that she felt the same presence from the client she transported some time ago. But for a moment there, I almost shouted “OMG IS THAT ANOTHER DULLAHAN?!” It would be awesome if it was…

Well, assuming that Aoba doesn’t like his name because it reminds his brother, the only name on the show that reminds Izumii is Izaya… Worst (or best, whatever) case, Aoba and Orihara sisters are in an awesome wincest relationship. Hope it’s not though. Maybe it’s some new character.

Funny to see Aoba just talking about shutting down Izaya and next scene, Izaya is talking about using everybody, including this weird new group.

    • Foshizzel says:

Over the top indeed! You would think people would remember you do not screw with Shizou! EVER!

Yeah I would love for there to be more Dullahan based characters like Celty and they don’t even need to be headless like her.

      <3 those sisters

I know right? Those two are on the same wavelength or something hahaa

  2. Iron Maw says:

I assume it was since we saw a shot of that armor in her room right? I can’t wait until they reveal what she really is later, but I will take a stab and say vampire because according to her bio she hates garlic?

Yep, that was her in the costume. You can even she watching the news briefly. You can say that was her way of returning the favor. Oh and the end of ep 3 you can see her running down the building in that armor at the very end.

Aoba is younger brother of Ran Izumi the leader Blue Squares that fought Kida’s gang the Yellow Scarves 1 year prior to the present story. You learn this in S1 during a flashback episode about Kida (episode 18 for reference).

    • Foshizzel says:

Yep! My only complaint was she popped out of nowhere to assist Celty, but that was fine because they probably didn’t really NEED to animate how she got there.

Yeah thanks for the info on Aoba’s brother because I forgot about the various colored gangs of the first season, but I did remember the yellow scarfs since Kida was the leader.

  3. belatkuro says:

Left for both pics of the Orihara twins. There’s no other answer other than left.

  4. Highway says:

For me, the more interesting storyline that was opened was Saika’s transference to Egor, and Anri’s worry about that, specifically about what Saika might do to Mikado if not under her control.

The gang stuff leaves me cold, to be honest. Especially because they keep wrapping Mikado up in it, and he is just not interested at all in it. I always got the impression that the Dollars was the antithesis of a gang: No identifying markings, no top down orders, no real ‘power’ except what individuals want to do. Yet these other clowns keep trying to pick fights with them. Maybe that’s the stuff people like about it, but all it does for me is show how stupid the other gangs are.

    • amado says:

for now the gangs are just heating up, actually the gangs do play quite some part in the durarara verse in terms of conflict and problems, which you’ll understand later.

well, you’ll see why the focus is on mikado much later, assuming they manage to put “that” scene this season.

as for anri, well just look at my comment below.

      • BlackBriar says:

The gang aspect already defined itself as crucial part of the Drrr!! universe. If not for that, we wouldn’t have all the development that occurred in the first season. So it’s indispensable whether some people like it or not. Certainly not a problem with me. With Aoba setting his sights on Izaya, you can bet things won’t be pretty.

Among other things, welcome back amado!!! It’s been a while.

    • Foshizzel says:

Right I agree with HWY on the gangs, but I also remember how HUGE of a role they played in the later half of season one because they revealed a lot on both Kida and Anri.

True the Dollars are a gang; however they have less violent acts such as cleaning up the city and being united even thou there are probably a few rotten members that take things too far! Then again any giant organization has their fair share of terrible members.

  5. BlackBriar says:

Everyone hitching a getaway ride in Dotachin’s van and later together at the hot-pot gathering were sights to see in the Drrr!! Universe. Maybe a challenge to see how many characters can be crammed in one spot with Celty as the icing on the cake. The ten million yen bounty with these out of town bikers hilariously shows proof of how greedy people can be. Plus Celty’s proposition on how to gain the money by normal means was slap to the face in face of their efforts. “Just put away 50,000 yen every month, and wait 200 months…” I did the math and it came up to a depressing amount of 16,67 years. Ouch!

Since episode 2, I’ve wondered why Aoba sounded so familiar. Turns out his seiyuu is Hiro Shimono because I’ve been hearing the voice of Hataraku! Maou-sama’s Lucifer/Hanzou Urushihara out of his mouth. I seriously think Aoba is biting off more than he can chew. I mean, more intimidating people, including Shizuo, have tried taking Izaya down to no avail. Simon was the only one who got a good right hook at him last season. As for which Orihara sister he’d choose, he’d be better off trying to get both because it doesn’t look like they’ll separate anytime in the future.

I assume it was since we saw a shot of that armor in her room right? I can’t wait until they reveal what she really is later, but I will take a stab and say vampire because according to her bio she hates garlic?

Oh, how I’d love for that to be the case but more information is needed for a concrete conclusion so I’m not getting my hopes up too much. If true, the dislike for garlic would be added piece as Ruri already has inhuman strength and recovery speed and the ability to defy gravity by running down the side of a building. She has no sensitivity to light, though.

Anri’s disposition sparked as much interest as Ruri in one go. I figured after all the incidents with the Yellow scarfs last season which forced her to use her powers often, she’d have complete control over Saika.

    • Wanderer says:

Note that Shingen told us Ruri’s supernaturalness comes from her ancestry, rather than directly. Whatever she is she isn’t pureblooded, so she may be missing some of the traits.

And there is no such thing as complete control over Saika. Anri can use Saika because her emotional displacement due to post-traumatic-stress after having her father nearly kill her then seeing her mother kill her father then commit suicide in front of her has rendered Anri unable to feel the emotions Saika uses as hooks to control peoples’ minds. That doesn’t necessarily mean she can stop Saika from doing something if she doesn’t know Saika is going to do it (or even capable of doing it).

      • amado says:

um actually, anri has complete control over the main saika due to her not feeling any “love”.

the people who can “use” saika, are ones like haruna from last season(remember that girl who was obsessed with the teacher and attacked anri in the first place), who can use saika if their love is overpowering enough.

with all that being said though, it is really quite telling how later in the novels, that saika gets really noisy inside anri whenever mikado is around.

        • Wanderer says:

Now I must ask if you didn’t watch this episode. Saika stabbing Egor, completely on its own initiative without Anri choosing to do anything, does not fall under any definition of being under “complete control” that I’m aware of.

          • edru says:

            read my last line.

though I guess my wording was a bit poor.
anri had complete control over saika, she did manage to suppress its powers and influence for several years, because she couldnt feel love at all, which is what saika requires to take control over a person.

now though? well, you could say that’s just the one of the slight hints she’s slipping up.

            • amado says:

ah shit, there goes my sockpuppet.

              forgot to change it :p

            • Foshizzel says:

Ohh I can imagine that Anri is a bit rusty with her powers because it has been a while or she is losing control? Either way I hope they explore more of her struggle with Saika or show us that Anri indeed has full control over Saika.

            • Kyokai says:

Your double identity is revealed, amado! xD

  6. BlackBriar says:

    Cat boys? Wut?

You must have photo shopped this one. If you did, you’ve outdone yourself. 😛

  7. Bobob101 says:

This arc was really the “training wheels” arc in my opinion. Assholes got beat up, everybody gets involved in some way, but in the end we get a happy Nabe party. I’m guessing the guy in the hat and blond girl from the op will be introduced yet.

I’m assuming simon is a former assassin. The head chef said they were from the se organization as egor, and egor is a top assassin. And a great baby sitter.

I guess everybody is going to use that chatroom eventually

    • Highway says:

From what I remember, the chatroom isn’t really used by everyone. Maybe they had the arc characters pop in from time to time, but it was mostly Celty, Mikado, Kida, and Izaya. I think Anri started after her arc in the first series. I’m also never sure if everyone knows who everyone is, or just Izaya.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah the key members of the chat are Mikado, Kida, Izaya, Celty and Anri who started off as Saika who would always spam the chat with creepy messages!

  8. Envyus says:

The only character we know named Izumii is Ran Izumii. The ex leader of the Blue Squares. He was the one who Kidnapped Saki and broke her legs while threatening to kill her then Kadota’s gang saved her and Walker set the van on fire. After this Izumii was arrested for Kidnapping Saki.

More details about Ran and Aoba should come forth in the future. But this is the stuff we know from last season.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah that is kind of cool! Just wait till Aoba discovers that Mikado knows the yellow scarfs leader Kida! That will probably start some new gang war.

I hope so! Those two characters have me the most curious.

  9. amado says:

also fosh, you were right on ruri’s bloodline.

one of her grandparents was a vampire, specifically the vampire in narita’s other series called “Vamp!”.

its not really important plot point other than indicating that they’re in the same verse so this isnt a spoiler. its just like seeing miria and isaac from baccano in durarara.

    • BlackBriar says:

Suddenly I’m even more hyped to watch Durarara!! Then it doesn’t suit calling Ruri a dhamphir (human/vampire hybrid) since 3/4 of her blood is human. It still leaves to question why she doesn’t attack people indiscriminately. I also wonder what other mutations the genes have caused.

    • Foshizzel says:

@Amando: Awwesome even thou I really hate vampires in anime because I feel they are overused and tend to be the same every time…

True I forgot that those Baccano characters are immortal right or never age? Maybe it is time I re-watch that series? LOL

@BB: Oooh sure mention Vampire and your ears catch fire, but that is cool I can understand the attraction to that character type even though like I said above I feel they are overused in anime.

      • BlackBriar says:

Hahaha!! Is that so? Well, I can tell you: my ears will be burning all through this year. Vampires are to me what mecha is to you. Though the mention of overuse can also be applied as much to mecha given the number of anime in that genre that’s spanned across the years but to each their own. At least Valvrave made a compromise with a mash-up of the two.

Still, this was a pleasant, unexpected surprise. First Log Horizon and now Durarara!! I’m being spoiled rotten.

        • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I dunno why I am not that into vamps! I guess I prefer my vampires of the Hellsing variety aka super OP instead of the new “staying in the sun” types even though yea Valvrave had them too, but I get it like you said vamps to you are like mechs to me.

Lol yeah Roe the vamp of LH is cool mostly because she is quite funny.

  10. edru says:

actually fosh, shizuo knows pretty much most if not everyone.
he used to be classmates with kadota back in his highschool days, along with shinra and izaya. and of course, he’s met with the van group a few times.
he’s of course met with mikado and anri.
he might not know seiji and mika personally, but he should recognize seiji as the dude who was protecting mika and stabbing him with ballpens.

btw the reason izaya is not part of the hotpot is actually shinra being considerate and having common sense.
what do you think would have happened if izaya and shizuo were placed in the same room?

    • BlackBriar says:

what do you think would have happened if izaya and shizuo were placed in the same room?

Simple: resulting casualties and broken furniture. Izaya in front of Shizuo is like a matador taunting a bull.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah! I remember all the silly run ins he had with the van group! Especially Erica who said there was fanfiction of Shizou and Izaya LOL

If they were in the same room they would knock the building down hahah

  11. Kyokai says:

Aaaah, where is my meme-fied Erika picture? She looked so moe in this shot:

    Drrrx2 3-00115

Besides this though, another entertaining episode. I do want to see Izaya go batshit crazy and Aoba to match his insanity. Now that would be quite a sight for sore eyes.
