Amagi Brilliant Park – 10

Amagi Brilliant Park-Celebrate

Oooh… Shiny!

Some Things are Looking Up

Amagi Brilliant Park-New attractions

Some new attractions are working out.

A lot of things seem to be going well at Amagi Brilliant Park. They get the lights on to great acclaim, the crowds are increasing significantly. The new attractions are really getting popular at the pool and Ruby’s cave. They’re even making some upgrades, however dubious they might be. And with more people, they’re getting even more attention, with some TV and magazine reporters coming to do feature stories on the park, although TriCen has some definite ideas about the things he’d like to talk about. Things are definitely getting better, although there’s still doubt as to whether it will be enough (and it won’t with the way it’s going).

Some attractions not so much

And there’s kind of an inevitability to the coming failure. It’s good that everything’s looking up, and it’s good that everyone’s coming together. But the numbers just aren’t adding up, and there’s just not enough time left until the deadline. So even when Latifa and Isuzu are talking about how much better things are, their interaction is tinged with a bit of sadness, because they both know that it won’t last past the end of the month. But even that takes a back seat when Latifa collapses. And despite Moffle’s disagreement, Isuzu fills Seiya in on what’s going on with Latifa.

Latifa’s got a “I’m just going to enjoy what I can” outlook

Latifa really fulfills the idea of a fairy-tale princess, doesn’t she? Promised as the reward to a wizard in exchange for driving off a dragon, the king reneged on the promise and drove the wizard off with his army. So the wizard cursed the king’s daughter, Latifa, with an animus draining curse, and a resetting memory and body. She’s been reliving her 14th year for a decade. And that explains why she doesn’t remember the meeting with Seiya that we’ve seen flashbacks of throughout the series.

Amagi Brilliant Park-An accord

Not buddies, but not enemies

The other thing we finally get is to an understanding between Moffle and Seiya. They’ve been enemies so far, not really agreeing with each other about approaches, never agreeing about motivations. But I think they’ve finally proven to each other that they both care about the park and Latifa and that they’re working towards the same goals. And I think they both realize that their disagreement is about each one wanting to be the top dog, the one who saves the park. But Moffle finally realizes that Seiya’s better at it than he is, and I think Seiya has finally given Moffle a little acknowledgment as an entertainer.

There’s a possibility on the horizon, as TriCen barreled in to say at the end of the show. I’m still guessing it’s something to do with the Stadium, perhaps a big act who will come and play. But they’re still over 100k short of the goal with only 10 days left. That’s a big deficit to make up, and we’ve got 3 episodes to do it in.

I wonder if we’ll see the vengeful wizard soon.

The park is actually is a secret portal to the world of D&D. The vengeful wizard Venger!

I would think so. I can’t imagine this will end with Latifa’s curse still in effect. It has to be broken and that requires meeting the wizard.

Wait…army can’t beat dragon. Wizard can beat dragon. But Army can beat wizard!

That’s one of those “Would you rather fight 100 duck-sized horses, or one horse-sized duck” kind of things. The army may not have had the ability to ‘tank’ the dragon (to use RPG terms), or maybe be able to damage it through armor, but the wizard is a different story.

I hadn’t even thought about that. I figured if they get the goal, at least Latifa’s life will be spared.

      • HannoX says:

Well, it is possible the wizard is behind the city council and the contract requiring that they meet the attendance goal. If so, then meeting the goal would break the curse and Latifa’s life will be spared. So you’d be right that meeting the goal spares her life.

In fact, I think that is quite likely. In fairy tales breaking the evil magician’s curse requires meeting a seemingly impossible goal, which is what the park is faced with. And there does seem to be something about the council’s representative that would fit with him being the wizard in question.
