After all that chaos broke all around the school last week it seems that no one really blames Shoko for doing what she did as a leader, but what happens to her now that she has finally lost everything? I guess technically she could rebuild or is that even possible? There was one moment that surprised me while watching her when she almost turned into the next red Valvrave pilot; however in doing so she just so happened to learn the truth about Haruto throwing away his life to save everyone while becoming a space vampire. I swear that scene felt a little too convenient because the AI just so happened to have video data on Haruto throwing away his life to become a pilot and now Shoko feels bad about calling him a monster? What?! I guess that is just the creators of Valvrave telling us that Haruto and Shoko are meant to be, but honestly Sunrise just does not handle romance all that well and lately it is pushing me to not really care about who Haruto ends up especially with the ending hinting at his possible death. I guess L-elf is finally out of his funky depression after he learned the truth about Lieselotte being a Mangus while punching Haruto who was wearing a space suit? Yeah that whole scene was really dumb to me but it just shows us that these two dudes really do work well together and now they want to create a world where both Magus and humans can live together? I wonder if that is hinting at the future stuff and speaking of working together it appears that A-drei let Saki escape after she revealed that L-elf was not himself when he shot A-drei back in the first episode which makes L-elf not a traitor anymore? Thank god now maybe he will not be so obsessed over L-elf anymore, but I just want to know what X-ein’s plans to do with A-drei? Will he shoot him for letting Saki escape or hear him out and join forces to stop Cain? I just can’t wait to see what happens next.

That’s why I was a bit displeased with this episode reverting back to it’s S1 crazyness that back then I totally wouldn’t mind.

While I voted that Haruto will forever be alone, that’s not right. Fosh, you forgot the true ship–Haruto x Suffering.
I thought it was about time we got another glimpse of the future with Saki. She’s still alive in the future and it seems clear she hasn’t lost her memories even though she still pilots a Valvrave into battle and from the one glance we got of that it seems she does it a lot. So they must have found some way to prevent or circumvent the memory loss. Maybe there’s some sort of device that can scan a pilot’s brain and record her/his memories then after a mission re-record those memories into the brain?

I’ve thought from the beginning episodes of season one, when we see those future epilogues with Saki and *absolutely no sign of Haruto* that he’s gonna bite it at some point in this show.
But basically, I’ve dropped this show (haven’t watched last two eps). I’m just not that interested in ‘let’s ruin everyone’s lives! It’ll be fun!’ type of shows.

You’re not one for tragedy, are you, Highway? I find it kind of makes the shows more epic. Psycho-Pass had elements of peoples’ lives being ruined and you managed to stick around. Maybe you should watch the remaining episodes for the sake of finishing the story. I imagine it leaves a bad taste dropping a show just when you’re near the end of it.

It’s not about ‘tragedy’. There can be tragic things, but also hope. There can be bad things happen, people’s lives ruined, but also morality and reason. Valvrave is more / has always been “What would be shocking and cool to do?” Murder tons of people for no reason? Sure, they’ve done that at least twice now. It’s just tearing people down, repeatedly and pointlessly (imo). And from what I hear, this is pretty much what Sunrise always does, so I have no reason to expect that it would be different this time. And if it does turn out to be different, I could still watch after finding that out.
Pulling out the “old man” card: One thing everyone should hope to learn as they get older is the unimportance of sunk costs. The amount of money / time / attention that you’ve spent on a thing shouldn’t be a factor in deciding whether to continue that thing. There will be times when I’ll finish a show I have grown to not care for, but it’s because the opportunity cost is low enough (i.e. I really don’t have anything better to do) to make it not a loss. But right now, I’ve got plenty of other things I’d rather do than watch Valvrave.

Well,Valvrare in S1 was pretty much just an entertaining trainwreck that not everyone is gonna enjoy.I took some time to get used to it myself.It’s the type of show where you have to turn off half your brain in order to not just accept how absurd it is,but be entertained by exactly that.
Although S2 proved to be more than that,it still remains somewhat true to itself,heh.

It is very much a show that grooves on “Throw it all into the handbasket, hit the express button to Hell” ideology. In short bursts that’s interesting, but they’ve pulled that card to much to make it sustainable as a story. It’s more an event than anything now.

Yeah, over 2 cours of constantly doing that, I grow fatigued. AoT had the exact same problem (as well as other problems with suspension of disbelief for me that Valvrave mostly got around because of “SPAAAAAACE!” and its attendant technology, although they still have horrendously wrong gravity). At some point, it’s just not special, not interesting, not shocking.

I’ve never really been a mecha fan. Anime has always been an incredible gateway to a culture that is both similar and different than the one I live in. I groove on that. Buddy Complex looks interesting, and I will give it the proverbial shot. Nobunaga the Fool is more my slice. Plus Evil LOLi Overlord.

Thats the thing with the mecha genre it has huge hit series and it has lots of failures, but out of the next season I hope Nobunaga the fool does better than Valvrave for most people <3

It’s like any other genre or genre blend these days. Take the marketing info and start the spitball Gatling. I’ve watched a ration of about 4 to 10 failed/great moe rom coms over the past few years, so it ain’t just mecha that fails.

Generally, mecha is a macguffin. It’s just a plot device to do things. The stories are always about the people, and frequently too much attention is given to the relatively unimportant machines, sacrificing the story (or the story’s just not that good). There are plenty of shows with big robots in them that satisfy on the human side (Rinne no Lagrange is a big one for me).

Tsk, really. They always cut out the previews towards the end of the show’s run. I want to know what happens next, damn it. It’s torture waiting a week for another episode of a series you like to watch!!
Again, this week’s episode awesome. There was hardly any action compared to last time but it was made up for by a lot of good drama and revelations now that the cat’s out of the bag for practically everyone.
Shoko discovering the truth and practically beating herself for her transgressions against Haruto, even if it was something a leader would do, was one of the highlights. For me, simply knowing the truth wasn’t enough because giving up one’s humanity is a heavy price to pay so if there’s any condition for true atonement in her case, it would be to become a Magius herself so she could better understand why Haruto kept everything a secret. She does get points for heading into the Valvrave with the intent to fight with no hesitation holding her back. Besides, for the longest while, I wanted to see her become one just for the hope of seeing her bite someone. I mean, Saki sank her teeth into Haruto not long after she was turned.
That was alright with me, easy to overlook. The poor guy needed something to vent his frustrations on after hearing the undeniable truth that his girlfriend was a human preying “monster” and that she was centuries older than him (I seriously doubt he’d mind finding out she was a cougar had she still been alive). At least Haruto didn’t feel the punches directly, just the aftershocks.
What I wanted to see was more of Saki and A-drei’s conversation. When told X-eins “This is my punishment”, I wonder if he was referring to doubting what he and L-Elf hoped to achieve along with their friendship or idly standing by, letting Saki get cruelly exploited in front of the entire human race which could be why he let her out of her cell.
Side note: This is an unrelated topic even though there’s mecha involved but not too long ago on ANN, there’s news that Senki Zesshou Symphogear has been green-lit for a third season. As if the second season wasn’t already great. More importantly, more Hibiki x Miku and Chris!! 😀

Katsura Hoshino’s character designs for Valvrave are really good. It’s a pity Hoshino hasn’t had any other showcase works apart from D-Gray Man and misc. one shot manga.

Interesting how Hoshino’s designs are more elaborate then the anime design, such as little Liselotte’s hair ornaments(instead of anime hair buns) and the Karlstein uniform epaulettes.

Well, compared to last week, we needed a bit of a rest period. However, decisions have been made and the stage is set: Get Ready for the Third Galactic Empire to Arise!
This was a pretty slow episode, however, it had tons of character development. Haruto and L-elf are stuck on the moon, L-elf is still as apathetic as possible and decides that there’s no point. Haruto can’t stop whining about stuff.
However, problems arise when eventually the two extreme opposites annoy each other to the point that they start fighting. Well….Haruto tries, and L-elf continues to own him. Let’s just say, if they didn’t have space suits on, L-elf would have beat Haruto to death 5 times over.
L-elf reveals the truth about Shoko’s father being killed by Haruto, and yells that Shoko hates him and that he is a monster that brings misery everywhere he goes. Haruto yells back that Lieselotte was the same “monster” as him and that she was immortal.
Both men are stunned by the revelations, and in a nice twist on the Newtype ghosts, both men are confronted in their heads by the person(s) they loved. Haruto’s about to give up to death and join his friends, but the Kamitsuki half of him says that it would be a waste and everything he ever fought for would have been in vain. Lise talks to L-elf, who is wondering if anything between them was real, and Lise says that thought they can’t be together anymore, she still had a dream, and it’s a dream that L-elf decides to carry on: to create a world, a haven, where humans, kamitsuki, and Magius can all live together. Both men decide that they want to live, and Haruto subsequently learns about his ability to rune speak, like the Magius can.
L-elf quickly discern that the Magius control the runes through words(specifically chants) and that Haruto who while he is only feeling this out, might be able to release enough power for a flare.
This is actually a pretty good moment for the two. We see that L-elf has become just a bit softer and he has a new mission in life which has reinvigorated him from his former despair. Haruto however, has totally done a 180 and now sounds wayyyy more confident than he ever has before.
Are we finally, finally seeing a better side of Haruto? At the very last minute?
This Haruto is confident in himself, wants to start his own country that is not Jior, but something all their own. He’s strong and able and he knows it will be a hard road, but he doesn’t care. He will go on for as long as it takes.
As for the other characters of this show? Shoko went down in my estimation (Girl, I stood up for you! ) with her comments against Raizou and Akira. However, she does thankfully find out about why Haruto became the way he did through a video given by Pino, who doesn’t care who is her pilot, as long as somebody feeds her.
A-drei got some surprising depth this episode as we see a flashback of why he wants to start this revolution. And as he and L-elf talk, I have to say, that they two were as good of friends as A-drei always suggested. L-elf is shown to have emotions, laugh happily, and actually relax while he’s with A-drei, and the two share their dreams of revolution. This makes me think that every scene we’ve seen the two confront each other since, L-elf was acting. He never again showed that slightly less stoic side that we saw for an instant way back in episode 2, when he said that he would have never have shot A-drei.
A-drei finds out that L-elf wasn’t the one who shot him, and now feels that it wasn’t L-elf who betrayed him, but it was he who had betrayed L-elf by not believing and trusting in him. He then is the one who releases Saki and returns her Valvrave to her, so that she arrives just in time to save Haruto and L-elf from the Dorssian Army.
However, A-drei lets himself get caught by X-eins who is wondering why his team is all suddenly turning into traitors. A-drei says that it’s not betrayal, but his penance.
In the end, L-elf and Haruto make a new promise that they will reveal the truth to the world and make a new country of their own. They are rescued by Saki, and we will have to see what goes on next episode.
There’s a small flash forward scene as well that shows that Module 77, or at least what’s left of it, is on the new world wherever Saki and Satomi live now, and they are showing it to the Prince. Saki, activates the chamber that holds it by using her own rune power, so we’ve got to assume that all the other kamitsuki end up perfecting their powers.
Well, we’ll see where this goes. The team is back together finally, even though they now only have 4 Valvraves rather than 5. The refugee students are hurt bad and floating out in space with nowhere to go. It’s obvious from their state that if nothing is done, they will all die.
Next week, it looks as if they’ve been found, and the kirshbaums are still a heavy match for the Valvraves. Also, will we ever see VVV2? And does the set up for these two last episodes look like a season finale or a series finale? Well, we’ve gotten where the start of the empire is going to come from, however, we don’t really know where this is going to go. I can’t see a large climatic series finale battle on the horizon, not the way they’ve set things up. A-drei’s fate is unknown. X-eins is beginning to figure stuff out but it’s obvious that he’s gotten no info from the earring for some reason. Haruto and L-elf want to find Cain and the Council of 101, but I really don’t see them doing that until the finale episode. Also, we still don’t know the Magius’ plan, or what’s up with Prue and Pino. I’m guessing their going to reveal some of that in the last episode. However, I still can’t see this being the end. This just doesn’t have that, Sunrise “THIS IS THE END” feel to it. That said, as leisurely as this is moving along right now, I’m almost sure of another season coming up.
I give this episode a 7.7/10.

There is no way this can be wrapped up in only two more episodes. Not without dropping too much stuff, waving the hands and saying, “All that’s that!” I think the most that will happen is Module 77 is retaken. With all the stuff going on it just screams Season 3.
