Kakumeiki Valvrave – 21

Shoko is not having a good day.

Oh hey time for more Valvrave on Metanorn and winning the pole from last week was all about Saki in prison! I guess she still remains to be a fan favorite.

Death in space!?

Terrible times in space.

Rest in peace Kyuuma!

If there was a time to shock the audience with something crazy this episode would be the perfect example because of all the death in this episode! So was anyone else wait for them to cease fire after the average students did not magically come back to life? SERIOUSLY! That part bugged me a bit, but to their credit I bet they were just following orders or was it a case of itchy trigger fingers because they were dealing with “monsters” I mean either way we can all agree it was terrible to see the students killed off like that. While that went down we also had to sadly say goodbye to Kyuuma who died a heroic death after risking his life to save Haruto but I already had him marked as dying off a long time ago and the same thing goes for Raizo who I suspect will die later on and speaking of things dying off I guess we might as well give up on Shoko and Haruto ever getting together thanks to him lying to her about everything related to the Valvraves and his immortality. That was not the smartest move on his part but I know why he kept her in the dark because he didn’t want her to get hurt and I think she would have been fine with it if he told her the truth back in the first half of the series. So I have to ask did anyone else think that Shoko was going to die when that beam was charging for the rocket?! I will be honest and say I was shouting at my monitor for the beam to take her out but she has survived a lot of encounters with death in the past. Before I wrap this up I guess Haruto is starting to lose his memories just like Marie but I think he is safe for now because that memory was from his childhood and not a recent memory.

I was shocked! SHOCKED! I say. Who could have every believed that Space Module 77 had that much tomato ketchup, and that it would every be handled so inexpertly. Way to bring ARUS to the table, gang.

But, seriously. WTF Sunrise?! Remember last week, Fosh? When you laughed about Saki x Sword. It was my turn this week. They brought that dramatic element in with such lame, it couldn’t be shocking.

    Geez.

Firstly, this episode has suddenly rocked the fandom and on all the sites I’ve been too, there have been hundreds of posts on Shoko’s behavior this episode. So, I shall just get mine out of the way now.

This my feeling regarding Shoko. Yes, she made one bad move this episode, but not only was she under emotional stress, she was clearly unsuited for this situation. Haruto did a piss-poor job at trying to explain himself and just stood there gaping like a dead fish, and so she was left to draw her own conclusions. She loved Haruto, and thought he felt the same. She knew they were best friends, and yet he’s been lying to her all this time and has not even bothered to give a good explanation as to why. Any girl would be furious in this situation. And then pile on top everything else that happened, she thought she was making the right decision. And while Shoko is smart, she’s always been naive, just as Haruto is. She trusts way to easily and has never had to face a double cross like this before. That kind of judgement is learned through experience and time, which Shoko has had none. Shoko is a good leader for a school, but not a country at war. I said this back when they voted her in, and this episode shows that. That was why her reassurance when she was saying that they will all pull through this, sounded hollow. Shoko was actually leaning towards giving into the Dorssian’s demands when her father was held prisoner, that’s why L-elf was prepared to kill her. There’s a reason that he’s behind the military aspect and he just let’s Shoko be the face of everything. He’s basically Neo JIOR’s second in command and he does all the work and makes all the heavy judgments. Shoko was out of her depth here, AND she was emotionally distraught. Shoko needs someone to tell her when not to take people at their word and to know when they’re deceiving you. That’s a skill you have to learn through experience, and Shoko has never had that.

As to if the ShokoxHaruto ship is sunk? No way. Actually the opposite. This was actually a maturing hump in their relationship they had to go through. Haruto has said that he still loves Shoko and he always will. Shoko figured out her mistake not long after making it, and is pretty ashamed of herself. Kyuma freaking died while trying to get them back together. I think the show will honor something like that. The two might now have to address the trust issues they now have, but they will actually be better for it.

    • Foshizzel says:

LOL yes this is a shocking episode indeed~

Haruto is clearly to blame I feel he took advantage of Shoko’s trust when he could have easily TOLD her the truth long again but nooooooooooo he had to lie.

True there could be hope for Shoko and Haruto getting back together again, but what of the ED? Haruto’s floating helmet and what about the future scenes? We have not seen or heard word of Haruto instead we see Saki and a handful of other students? However I still think their ship is over.

    • Lily Nadesico says:

Shoko is a shit. That’s all there is to it.

  3. Irenesharda says:

Now, for my actual thoughts on the episode:

    Wow….

That’s all I can say is “wow”.

I was wondering how they were going to get rid of all the extra student weight, and this episode did it in spades. There were so many who were saying they weren’t going to turn their weapons on the students? Well, I guess this episode was the answer for you. The world sure is fickle.

So in one day, Haruto’s lies have cost them everything. The entire world has turned against them and almost everyone is now dead, massacred for something that wasn’t even their fault. The students turned against each other, and the ARUS turned against them, calling them “Class 7 dangerous beings” which somehow means: If you find one–Kill It.

The Magius are quite clever, and using one of their own Phantom ships, along with JIOR scientists and reporter Barrett, they frame the students for being the ones harvesting humans, and unfortunately panic has already set in and no one believes anything Haruto and the others have to say. The ARUS and Dorssia made an unprecedented move (well, “unprecedented” for anyone who wasn’t in the know) and made an alliance together to fight against the Module 77 and destroy the “non-humans”. And the public of course, goes right along with it. Interesting how this is the same public that once praised Haruto and called him a “hero”, isn’t it?

A majority of the students are shot down, and only a few escape on three ships using the “Orb-esque” Mass Driver. However, we can’t have this end without more suffering, so Iori, in despair over her father’s death by RUNE drainage thanks to the Phantom ship, tricks Haruto to fall into a trap in which they will give him to the ARUS in return for their safety. Haruto gets into a tussle and is fatally shot. However, this finally reveals his true side to Shoko.

Shoko is in horror at this, and at the fact that he didn’t trust her with his secrets. Also, there’s the fact that Haruto is beginning to lose his memories to the Valvrave and therefore doesn’t remember their cave incident. Shoko, in an emotional and hard decision, decides to give into the ARUS’ demands and give over Haruto. (They also give over the still destroyed L-elf, saying he’s too dangerous for them to take with them).

However, of course it’s a double cross, and it’s up to Inuzuma to save them, despite the fact that most of the surviving student have already demonized him and his fellow pilots. Kyuma falls to his death flag from last episode, and in a kamikaze style mission, he leaves Raizou and Akira to protect Shoko’s ship, while he goes to rescue Haruto and L-elf, who are in that confounded capsule. His Valvrave is damaged beyond compare, and with his last gasps of breath, he declares that he and his fellow pilots are not monsters, but kamitsuki, and then demands to know if how Haruto feels about Shoko. Haruto firmly confirms that he is, and always will be, in love with Shoko. (And you can hear the soft cries of the SakixHaruto ship finally dying )

After hearing this, Kyuma throws Haruto and L-elf out of the blast radius and destroys as many enemies as he can, before going up in a glorious and tragic explosion. Now is he really dead, being an immortal and all? I think so, but we’ll have to wait and see. This could prove that once Valvraves are destroyed their pilots die too? We’ll have to see. Also, what does this mean for the future Golden 7? And how many are going to survive. Will the students that have survived become the new immortal army now, once everything is finally explained? It’s not like they have anywhere to go; the entire Earth is against them now.

It looks like it’s time for the Galactic Empire to be born…

Now that Haruto’s finally chosen Shoko, it’s still going to take some time before they repair their differences. Trust is easy to break, but hard to build. Also, Haruto still doesn’t know about Shoko’s father, and I have no idea what they’re going to do about episode 10 and if that’s ever revealed.

Also, poor Saki, who started this whole thing, gets only a few minutes of screentime and she is questioned by A-drei, who is wondering why she never attempted to kill him while inhabiting K-zwolf’s body. She refuses to answer and so he changes the path of his questions and begins to ask about L-elf instead. I’m thinking that he’s finally going to get some answers on who it was that really shot him in the eye.

This was a game-changer episode and we’ll have to see what the students are going to do now that they have nowhere to go. They now have only three Valvraves to protect them, with pilots that they don’t trust. Hopefully they can rescue Haruto and L-elf. And L-elf…I really don’t know what they’ll do for him. Even the Module 77 massacre can’t wake him up from his depression, and he’s completely questioning all his abilities. The guy really needs a jump-start.

This was a tragic episode and the end of the Sashinami School and Module 77…yet, I have a feeling that this is only the beginning of the suffering.

I give this episode a 9.6/10 and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

    • Foshizzel says:

That’s all I can say is “wow”.

      Amen same here <3

The entire world has turned against them and almost everyone is now dead, massacred for something that wasn’t even their fault

I know that whole scene was CRAZY! I was not expecting that.

      The Magius are quite cleve

LOL yeah they planned out EVERYTHING and managed to pull it off and I wonder if L-elf were around would he have predicted that? Probably?

I give this episode a 9.6/10 and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

      Same!!

Has the studio confirmed any sequel season or movie yet?

If not, there’s still quite a few plot threads that really need resolving within 3 more eps.
Like the secret of Pino and Prue, the Valvrave technology, and that sexual assault thing from Season 1.

    • BlackBriar says:

I honestly don’t see how things will wrap up in 3 more episodes. The story still feels wide open and I’m hoping for another season. Not to mention we still haven’t seen that black Valvrave with the green neon lights in the OP, X-eins has yet to make a move after finding out some revelation from H-neun’s ear ring and there are also the time skips to take into consideration.

      • Irenesharda says:

Yeah, VVV2 hasn’t shown up yet in its new form, and it was pretty awesome in only its prototype stage. Also, I really have a feeling H-neun’s going to show back up. I mean think about it. All other named supporting characters have had quite the dramatic death. Marie, Lieselotte, Kyuma, all of them had a dramatic deaths with visual flare and music. H-neun’s wasn’t even on screen, and I don’t think that’s because he’s on Dorssia’s side.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they pulled out another twist and dose of suffering and had H-neun who was now jacked by a Magius, visit X-eins in secret after X-eins finds out what’s on the earring recorder. Happy to see his friend, X-eins lets down his guard only to be stabbed in the back by the guy he once considered his best friend. H-neun’s body cries at what it’s done, but the Magius in control simply wipes the tear away. He then takes the earring from a dying X-1 and crushes it, destroying the evidence and returns to Cain who sent him, saying that mission was accomplished.

LOL, I know it’s creative and yet depressing thought, but hey, it could happen. 😛

    • Foshizzel says:

We just have to wait and see how things officially end before we jump to them talking about a s2 or movie, but I would LOVE more Valvrave <3

  5. skylion says:

Wow, Module 77 has tons of loose ketchup bottles just laying around. That’s dangerous, ketchup got everywhere. Luckily ARUS was there to help them clean up. And with the Dorssian Alliance I’m sure clean up efforts will be that much more efficient.

  6. BlackBriar says:

Man, absolutely everything has gone straight to hell. I felt sorry for the a part of the student body that were needlessly killed but scoffed at the rest mindlessly shouting “monster” without any proof. Humans are the most dangerous creatures when they’re panicking like animals.

R.I.P Kyuuma. If there’s any consolation, he’s with Aina now. He went out like a badass, even got Raizou to shed some tears.

Shouko and the other students who tried to send Haruto off in exchange for their safety should have known. Once an important bargaining chip leaves your possession, you’re expendable on the spot. The ingrates should show gratitude that Kyuuma helped them. As if the ARUS president was going to let them live anyway. He’s more than willing to sacrifice anyone to maintain his cover with the Magius.

What I wanted to see most was what was going on between Saki and A-drei. If she does start talking to him, it’s a safe bet she’ll get him to change sides. I raged seeing her in the cell. She looks almost broken.

    • Foshizzel says:

I felt bad too! What the hell really? Why murder all the students? I mean none of them stood back up after being shot so wouldn’t that tell them to stop shooting the students? LOL

      Take care Kyuuma T_____T

To the students credit they just witnessed a mass murder of their fellow students so yes they were in the right to give Haruto up, but at the same time they should have known better to trust the ARUS president.

A-drei and Saki could work but I feel its more of “if I use this person ill get what I want” from both of them.

Let me get this off my chest first: F**K SHOKO AND EVERYONE*, L-11 x Haruto OTP Okouchi, don’t crash this ship plz

*except Kyuuma, Raizo, Akira, Satomi, Takahi, Otamaya and Saki

Well damn, this remind me so much of a certain episode of Guilty Crown. Shoko = Arisa anyone? At least she didn’t whore herself out But damn, I can see why she doing this to protect her people but she is now right there in my hate list along with Q-Vier and Cain.

I too feel bad for all the students tht got massacre but the students being a ungrateful bunch and Magius/Dorrsia Fuhrer being hypocrite really ticks me off. I actually laugh out loud/grunts at the hypocrisy.

RIP Kyuuma. Hope your sacrifice is not in vain and you can finally meet Aina. There no way he gonna survive THAT despite Sunrise track record.

    Off topic
So what do you guys think off the upcoming new Sunrise mecha anime Buddt Complex? It doesn’t look as interesting as VVV going by first impression but no one saw VVV going off the rail so we shall see. And lol, the female lead apparently got killed off in the PV alone for the sake of BL tension XD

    • Irenesharda says:

*except Kyuuma, Raizo, Akira, Satomi, Takahi, Otamaya and Saki

But what about Takumi-sensei, Rion, Eri, Lily, Yusuke’s friends and the rest of the Earth team? They stayed loyal too. LOL

I don’t think Kyuma survived it either. But I have ceased being surprised at anything Sunrise pulls out of their magic hat. Every time someone tells me it’s impossible for anyone in a Sunrise show to survive something, I remind them of Mu La Flaga, and they just sigh and say, “Yeah…”

I don’t know if I would call the Magius “hypocrites” per say, they are all putting on an act here. To them it’s more of “choosing the lesser to two evils”. They’ve been fighting to survive so long, that they no longer have any care for anything or anyone else, even their own kin.

I have yet to see the PV for Buddy Complex, but it’s coming out in the Winter Season so I don’t have much in term of expectation for it. Also, “Buddy Complex“? At least Valvrave had the interesting and unusual title going for it. Also, Valvrave was a Spring Season release too, comparatively.

Edit: Just so the PV. It’s okay, nothing I haven’t seen before. I will probably give it a try coming Winter Season since its mecha and it doesn’t look too bad. The animation looks weird though. Haruto had big eyes, but this guy? I had to keep looking at the MC to make sure he wasn’t a shota! The mechs look horrible though. At least, Valvraves look unusual but good in their uniqueness. These things look just…bizarrely rounded and clunky. Most Sunrise mechs seem to follow Gundam and are all angles, points, and sharp edges. These look bulky and circular and give it a more kiddy-ish feel to them.

      • d-LaN says:

I forgot OK? Though I only recognise the senseis name.

Never heard/seen Mu La Flaga be4. Plz explain the details.

        Yeah, the character design is not really appealing by first glance. Aaaaannnd I now have the image of the MC as a shota ^_^;

        • Irenesharda says:

Rion is the simpleton teacher, Eri and Lily are part of Takahi’s clique, and Yusuke’s friends are still hanging around.

Mu la Flaga was a primary supporting character in the Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny franchise. SEED is one of the more famous of the Gundam franchise, because it was one of the ones that was largely promoted in the US and it along with Gundam Wing are usually known as the introduction Gundam/mecha series, since they were widely available on Cartoon Network/Adult Swim/Toonami. It was my first mecha series and my first Gundam series.

If you haven’t seen SEED, you should watch it if you like mecha since it’s pretty good. It’s in the vein of late 90s/ early to mid-2000s style mecha, so it is a bit preachy, but it’s one of Sunrise’s more famous works.

Mu la Flaga was an older human ace pilot in the series and since I already revealed it without knowing, he has one of the most famous (infamous) death scenes near the end of the first series.
Here’s the death scene if you want to see it and judge it for yourself, but suffice it to say, NO ONE should have come back from a death like that.

Yeah, Gundam Wing was my first mecha show as well when I was a kid. I remember trying to watch as much of it as I could since it was a new genre for me. Most of its attention went to its protagonist Hiro Yui who was very enigmatic. The series ended on a high note and its follow up movie “Endless Waltz” made it even better. The second mecha series for me after that would be G Gundam another anime that was playing on Toonami.

          • Foshizzel says:

Are you watching Gundam Build Fighters? That has a lot of oldschool gundams! I love it xD

            • Irenesharda says:

Not really. Once I saw how kiddy it was and the plot line I didn’t bother. I actually go into mecha more for the story than the mechs themselves, however, seeing all those different mechs would be cool. It reminds me one of the Gundam video games my brother had.

            • Foshizzel says:

Yeah GBF is definitely aimed at the 15-18 crowd of boys, but there are a lot of female fighters that even out the cast and I love how that Gundam series has shoutouts pretty much every week to the past series and so far they have shown some from G gundam, Gundam Wing, Gundam 00 and Gundam 0083 thrown in from time to time even a few from Gundam Unicorn as well.

You can’t blame Shouko entirely. Haruto held out on the truth and so she felt betrayed.
