The World God Only Knows: Goddesses Arc – 10

The World God Only Knows - Goddesses Arc - 10 (2)

Nothing says love like a knee to the gut.

Darn it, this pointless goddesses side story keeps interrupting what’s supposed to be Ayumi’s route. It’s great that it’s stretching out to 4+ episodes now, but can’t Vintage just sit still for a few days and let the best girl get her screen time? No? Well, that’s why they’re the bad guys.

So, it’s playing out largely as expected: Ayumi and Chihiro both justifiably hate Keima’s guts. I appreciated the violence on Keima with both Ayumi and Chihiro getting hits in. But Ayumi was still going all doki doki over Keima, and Chihiro still let herself get dragged to his house and even obeyed his order to stay sitting in his living room. The timescales involved start to break my suspension of disbelief a bit. Yes, people have been known to bounce back quickly from trauma, but I’m having a hard time believing that Chihiro could go from her first heartbreak – and no ordinary heartbreak, mind you, an abusive and cruel one – to actually listening to and following around Keima within a day.

Ayumi was more believable in that she was forceful in wanting nothing to do with him, even as she grit her teeth and performed her duty as server for the culture festival (what maturity from this teenager). I would have liked to see Keima get that confession out as planned, only to see it go over as well as a lead balloon. For someone so good with girls, he sure consistently acts clueless, though, muttering thoughts about “conquest” in front of them, and even believing he could get Chihiro of all people to be his ally in capturing Ayumi. I mean, seriously, dude?

FK YA Haqua. I love political intrigue stories, of corruption and moles and law enforcement being forced to work under the radar (why yes, I was a huge fan of 24). Haqua has suddenly become the maverick badass working for the good guys behind the scenes with her breakout aided by the bureau chief, who turned out to be a good guy as I had guessed (not that that wasn’t obvious). Manglobe is clearly out of its element with the action scenes which were passable at best. Which is unfortunate, because I love the concept of Haqua’s fighting style of using lots and lots of magic to enhance her physical attacks. This isn’t an action series, though, so I can live with it.

I’m still suspicious of Nora, and I’m curious why Haqua, after that prison conversation, was so quick to entrust her with Ayumi’s safety. I was yelling at Keima to have Haqua watch over Ayumi and have Nora help him out directly, even if he doesn’t have the chemistry with her that he has with Haqua. Speaking of which, why didn’t he ask LC to return from her undercover Kanon impersonation? He could use all the help he can get, considering the dozen or so girls who have been kidnapped, and I’m sure Kanon going missing for one evening wouldn’t cause much panic among the public.

Anyway, I’m afraid with Nora watching over her, Ayumi will be a sitting duck for Vintage next episode. What does Keima have up his sleeve, and why is he dragging Chihiro with him? An utterance of his catchphrase “I can see the ending!” would have given me more confidence, though that could also be considered a death flag in this dangerous situation. Personally, I’m thinking Keima’s angling for the best friends threesome route (no I’m not. But he should be).

Looks like he’ll be throwing in everything and the kitchen sink to win over Ayumi.

In response to his arrogance, seeing Keima physically abused is always a pleasure and his antics just bring him more pain.

Now things have gotten interesting with Vintage on the move. They probably ignored Diana because she might have not been considered a goddess due to her lack of wings. If Vintage brings Hell on Earth, wouldn’t that upset some natural balance?

Haqua was the best part owning the Vintage members. There is a bit more maturity in her since she got that scythe. Haqua most likely chose to trust Nora because it’s convenient and there’s no other option at the moment. Gotta deal with what’s on the table.

Did Apollo even get wings before she was attacked? I don’t recall.

Haqua’s scythe is something she’s had for a while, when she was acting poorly. She got that for being top of the class before she and Elsie started working in the Loose Souls department. But she never lived up to it before, that’s what the problem was. Reminding her why she got it was a good move on the part of the chief.

@BlackBriar: No, as the episode said Vintage doesn’t know which persons host the goddesses, not to mention where exactly one respective goddess resides. But they assume that the goddesses rest in Keima’s captures. However, Tenri is officially recorded as Nora’s capture. That’s why she wasn’t targeted.

Keima sure has a lot of stamina for a geeky gamer dude and FINALLY he is feeling the pressure of the world ending soon!

Also daaaamn Haqua is a badass xD

Haqua was badass…especially when she said “it
just takes 20 of them at once” when responding the vintage… she still has small breasts though…

I don’t recall when she was introduced in S2 – was it part of her character that she was an exceptional and very talented student?

      • Highway says:

Yeah, Haqua was introduced as way past the top of the class, a very prideful demon, who was made section chief without really having accomplished anything outside of school. Elsie idolized her in school, both being in the same class. Haqua also lied when she first was brought on the show, saying she’d caught 10 loose souls, which Elsie thought was much better than her (and Keima’s) five, and the reason she appeared in the first place was that she’d let a Loose Soul get away from her.
