“There was also Dr. Isshiki’s big reveal, that the Manifestor Engine was really a gift (and a test) provided by inter-dimensional aliens of some sort.”

When did he say that? In the Crunchyroll version he said something along the lines of, that after the Manifestation Engine went out of control he was being contacted by inter-dimensional beings, informing him that they will send the Alone as a trial – to proof if humanity is worthy of the Manifestation Engine.

    • Highway says:

I don’t even think it was *said* by the Alone that it was a trial. That was Isshiki’s interpretation of why they were showing up now. I thought the message was more that Manifestor / Incarnate Energy was highly dangerous, and that it shouldn’t be messed with. And then *now* they’re showing up and trying to destroy it.

Personally I think he’s wrong. They’re not being ‘tested’ to see if they’re worthy of using the Manifestor engine. The Alone are trying to get rid of it. It’s not like “Hey, you beat our guys, so you’re fine using this highly dangerous technology.” I think it’s a lot more “You guys have no idea of how dangerous this is, and you need to stop.”

      • skylion says:

        So, it’s pretty much Eva+Symphogear+/-Strike Witches= ?

        • Highway says:

It’s been so long since I half-watched Evangelion (like 12 years), I have no clue what actually went on in that show. And I’ve never seen anything of Symphogear.

          • BlackBriar says:

I suggest you watch Symphogear when you have some time. It’s a good anime. I’d describe it as Vividred Operation meets AKB0048 but the action part gains an upper hand.

          • lvlln says:

The setting and visual designs draw a lot from Evangelion, along with the overall concept of mysterious enemies appearing to destroy a central object, evolving each time. The Alone of episode 8 was pulled straight out of episode 6 or 7 Evangelion.

  2. JPNIgor says:

@Sakurasou: I keep saying that Sakurasou isn’t something to fap with. Damn, if you guys haven’t watched 23, than prepare a tissue box for you. I could need one even for 22 if I could cry.

    • Foshizzel says:

I know Sakurasou isn’t “fap” material…Kara already has enough stuff to focus full post reviews on instead xD

      23 was good!

  3. skylion says:

Vividmayonaise Operation: (I’m surprised she doesn’t just have it running constantly) Given this outcome, we can see why…

    • BlackBriar says:

Akane tops it on so much stuff that it wouldn’t surprise me if one day she says everything tastes like mayonaise.

  4. Highway says:

Sakurasou: Nanamin! Nooooo! She fell on the grenade, went down without throwing a punch. I don’t know if she’ll feel happier in the end about never confessing to Sorata (I doubt it), but either way, what a self-sacrifice. And I give her so much credit after that, cause after breaking her own heart and pulling her last punch, she still helped look for Mashiro, and even came upon Sorata confessing to her, and STILL came to comfort Mashiro. I’ve said it before, but Nanami is pure class and my favorite character in the show. And that from a character that I really didn’t like on first appearance.

The Toradora comparisons just don’t stop with this show, tho. As Sorata was running away from the rejected Nanami, all I could think, through my tears, was “Daaaaang, at least Minorin got an indirect kiss from Ryuuji.”

  5. Highway says:

Vividred: I think it’ll be tough for Rei to trust Akane, especially after Akane had said “I know your secret”. So in addition to her despair over her failure and capture, the person she thought was becoming her friend appears to be someone who was just playing her. Because of the way the show is, it’s likely she’ll get past that, and get convinced by Akane that she really didn’t know. But it’s still a shock to her.

The question will be how does Rei get away from the influence of Crow-san? Even if she can’t be injured by the pain, that’s still quite the sword hanging over her neck.

  6. Highway says:

Maoyuu: Something I wish the show did a little better was indicate the variable passage of time. I was a bit confused during this episode until I realized that they had moved through almost an entire year. The way it’s presented, it seems like there’s far less time passage than there is, so I couldn’t understand how the machinations of the merchants would have had so much effect in so little time.

I wonder if some of the motivation of the merchant is to help the spread of Maou’s teachings and crops throughout the rest of the human world. If there had been bumper crops, the futures contracts that they came up with would have been a big loss for the merchants, and there wouldn’t have been a run on foodstuffs. But we’ve been told before how the human world is pretty much balanced on a string as far as carrying capacity. When the central nations farmers see that the Winter country farmers, with their crappier soil and shorter growing seasons, are doing better than they are themselves, they’ll start wondering why: what crops, what methods, and what results. Nothing could spread that knowledge faster… assuming it’s not all destroyed by war.

    • Foshizzel says:

I noticed that as well, but I guess we are to assume a full year or half a year has already passed? If so damn Maou better hurry up and return to Yuusha quickly!

Good point! If there is a war they might as well say good bye to all the crops anyway…

  7. KLACMAN says:

vivid rangers – cat is out of the bag wonder with 2eps left how hmm “answer it”?

maoyuu – give sorta huh give merchant & dragon lady hmm & oh red queen being want the hero since he was a baby good grief i wonder is “meat” really a MILK?!

senran – give indeed bath & oh hibari got caught now main heros to rescue hibari & storm the castle (oh saw ep.11 yea one ep left on it to go)

    • Foshizzel says:

Vivid: I have no idea and I can’t wait!

Maouyuu: Dragon x merchant ftw <3

Senran: Yeah I saw 11 as well! Lots of crazy fighting and mostly talking >.<

  8. Highway says:

Boob Ninjas: If we’re picking favorites, I’d have to go with Ikaruga > Homura > Asuka > everyone else > Hibari. I’d also like to know what the Hanzou girls think will be different when they match up with the Hebi girls again, because they got their panty-clad asses kicked last time.

I’m fully expecting some power epiphany on the order of Leroy in The Last Dragon or Hot Rod in the Transformers Movie when Asuka gets near the two scrolls.

    • Foshizzel says:

Nice list Highway! I would kick out Asuka from that list, but it works just as well xD

Ahahahah I want you got the touch playing in the background during that scene <3

      • Highway says:

That’s exactly the same thing I was thinking of… And the reason I picked those two is that they’re kind of cheesy, too. 🙂

  9. BlackBriar says:

Vividred Operation – 10: Wow. Akane eats, breathes and sleeps mayonnaise. What is this girl’s intake that resorts to a homemade mayonnaise maker? Bath fanservice. Hahaha, she must be really ditzy if she isn’t afraid to show herself to someone she doesn’t know completely.

Isshiki’s reveal on the Manifestor Engine made things interesting. This could be one big game where the humans are the players and the inter-dimensional beings on each side have something to gain or lose from it.

Rei should have stood up to that crow a lot earlier and showed who’s boss. If they could have replaced her, they would have threatened her with the fact a long time ago. What a twist ending for the episode Rei pulled making Akane look like the bad guy to the viewers when she got caught but treatment she got from the police made me cringe. It was completely unnecessary.

  10. BlackBriar says:

Senran Kagura – 10: Excluding the superiors, I still don’t see the dark ninja girls as villains. They just look and act like regular girls (Haruka is the exception. Nothing regular about her) when they’re not training or on missions and somehow, Hibari manages to fit in with them.

The idea you mentioned about yin and yang, I think that’s Rin’s goal. She’s worked on both sides and so, knows everything about them inside and out in order to bring them together. Not to mention that every time she sent the dark ninja girls out, she never ordered them to kill. It was all probably recon.

You give the fanservice 8 out of 10? It gets 10 out of 10 with me. It would have been 8 as well but got 2 extra points for yuri element. It was expected because Haruka’s attitude and attire reeks of it.

Favorite girls: Homura < Katsuragi < Asuka < Ikagura < Yomi < Haruka < Hikage. Mirai, Yagyuu and Hibari aren't appealing to me.

    • Foshizzel says:

True I feel 100% the same! I guess it is all a matter of perspective? The “good” ninjas see them as “evil” but thanks to Hibari maybe that will change? I totally picture all of the girls becoming best friends with the schools merging into one massive ninja school!

Yep! Mastering both sides = becoming a super boob ninja~

I would give it a solid 10/10 for the added bath moments and yuri all the way.

Niceeee list! I like Homura so far she comes off as the “badass” of the dark ninjas and yeah Yagyuu/Hibari are kind of boring, but they have a nice yuri-ish relationship if you add that in.

      • Highway says:

To me, Homura is more the “normal girl” of the Hebi girls. If anyone’s a badass, it’s Hikage, but that doesn’t mean I like her that much.

  11. BlackBriar says:

Maoyuu Maou Yuusha – 10: I continue to enjoy how much structure is being put into the anime’s storyline along with ideals like idependence and the underhanded tactics to gain knowledge, respect and wealth. For a fantasy anime, there are a lot of real world ideas and aspects being used.

The dragon princess is really cute. I see her as more of a fit for the merchant than him going after Maou’s affection. They both make a good ship because they’re ambitious and know how to work their way around people.

Maou is a cradle robber? Wow, I didn’t see that coming. That means she’s been keeping an eye on him up to the moment they met face to face. Well, it’s not surprising that she’d live long and still look young. She is a demon after all and demons don’t have life expectancies. As for that demon king room. I think it will make vicious for a while right after the process is finished. There’s still that part of the OP where the Head Maid was forced against a wall missing one of her arms and I’m beginning to think that Maou is the cause of it.

  12. BlackBriar says:

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo – 22: I’d never want Misaki to drive me anywhere if I were to start living in that world. Her driving “skills” are hazardous. It would be like being part of a GTA game.

Poor Nanami. It’s depressing seeing her love being unrequited and that she had to fall on her sword letting Sorata go. I really hope for her sake she finds someone who cares for her. She was very noble telling Mashiro not to put all the blame on herself. Her self sacrificing personality was the noose around her neck. She really should have taken a chance to confess. It isn’t always wrong to want to be selfish, it’s what makes you human.

Someone should have walked up to Sorata and told him he was being an insensitive bastard. His crisis after reading the letter is understable but hey, he’s not the only one in the world with problems and taking it out on innocent people isn’t going to lessen the pain and disappointment. He’s lucky Mashiro isn’t the type to hold a grudge.

Rita showing was unexpected but was welcomed. Her de-stablizing Ryuunosuke was funny. For someone who seems to immersed in wealth, she probably has a private tutor doesn’t go to regular school like everybody else.

    • Highway says:

As far as I know, Rita is still studying painting in her Grandfather’s conservatory.

Comparison of Nanami and Kotoura-san in the spoiler because Kotoura just happened yesterday:
      Show ▼

      • Karakuri says:

Ohhhh right. I keep forgetting that Rita is one of those talented (but not quite Mashiro-level) people.

I have to agree with your analysis there though, Highway. This probably would be the most favourable outcome for her.

  13. HannoX says:

Vividred: I wonder if Akane was checking to see if Rei has any yuri tendencies by seeing how she’d react to having a girl’s ass practically shoved in her face?

I was expecting Rei to shoot off all her arrows, but I guess she needed to have some saved for the final battle, either against the Vivid girls or the Alone. I’m expecting her to join the other girls in battling the Alone. Perhaps we’ll get a Red/Black dock then. Akane sure wants to be friends with Rei, so I’m sure she’d dock with her in a heartbeat given the opportunity. However, I think it’s going to be all the girls docking together to form one super badass babe to defeat the Alone.

Or when they find out what the Manifestation Engine is doing to Rei’s world, will they destroy the Engine? And if they do, will that save her world? I don’t trust that crow. I think it’s been lying to Rei all along and her world is already gone for good and the Manifestation Engine was not the cause of it. So my guess for the end is that they find out the crow’s been lying, Rei’s world was destroyed by something else (the Alone?) and the girls band together (possibly all docking together) to defeat the Alone and the five become friends forever.

    • Highway says:

Rei’s plan was definitely to shoot all four remaining arrows, since she knew where the Alone was going to arrive. But she was interrupted with at least one left due to Himawari figuring out how to track the arrow flights and backtrack the location they were fired from. So before she could get all four off, she 1) saw that she had failed when VividGreen destroyed the Alone and 2) had to run to avoid being captured.

The show *has* to save Rei. If Urobuchi was anywhere around this show, I would say there’s a possibility (high probability?) that Rei would die, probably even with the victory and restoration of her world just in her grasp. But since he’s not around, and this show has played to type every single chance it’s had, Rei will be saved somehow, the Manifestation Engine will stay intact, and life will go on with everyone being friends.
