Mouretsu Pirates – 11

Coorie-“You really should check your email captain.”                   Marika-“I bet it is just more spam email.”

Eleven episodes in and things are getting so damn interesting every week with Mouretsu Pirates, but I think most of us are super excited to find out more details on the Golden Ghost Ship. That and I want to find out the true identity of that other blonde little girl. Anyway it’s time for some piracy at last!Plot this week follows Marika and the Bentenmaru continuing the search for the Golden Ghost Ship.

Coorie-“Would you look at that fake ass CGI?!”                      Marika-“Wait, isn’t our ship made the same way?”

Starting off this week with captain Marika leading her crew to finding their objective, which takes them through even more dangers, but they do have Kane and his amazing piloting skills. Not only does the Bentenmaru has to travel through dangerous areas, they are also being followed by six smaller ships and one Maracot-class battleship, called The Queen Serendipity… Before things get crazy, Marika asks Misa to teach Gruier how to wear a space suit just in case. However, that was just a sneaky way to get Gruier off the bridge allowing Marika a chance to talk to her crew.

Quick, Gruier, sing a song to Marika before she starts talking about space sharks.

Marika-“YARR!! LET’S GET SOME SPACE PIRATE BOOTY!”                    Kane-“You said the magic word!”

The captain declares that she wants to protect everyone onboard Bentenmaru, even the princess. She might not be an official member of the crew but Marika still wants to make sure she is safe from danger. However if they get overrun by the enemy, she wants them to turn and run because it is pretty much pointless if everyone gets killed in the process. Marika still thinks something is troubling Gruier’s mind lately. I assume it’s the thought of never finding the Golden Ghost Ship or the fact her own people might get hurt if they go up against the Bentenmaru… After her short speech, she tells everyone to prepare for a FTL jump because she is fully prepared to find Gruier’s ship and wrap up this mission.

Kane-“You better hang onto something, captain!”                          Marika-“Thanks for the late warning…”

After the Bentenmaru makes a successful jump, they arrive into more dangerous areas! As in a space-time quake that shakes the ship like crazy, but Kane is too cool to let a little shaking stop him from pushing the ship to the limit even if it means ripping the ship apart… However, Luca starts to detect a massive ring aka an expanded gravity ring that creates several massive shockwaves knocking the Bentenmaru around for a bit. Inside this gravity ring, they detect something coming out from the center. As in the Golden Ghost Ship finally making an appearance at last, but the other serenity ships arrive at the same time to try and confront the Bentenmaru from getting near their target.

Hyakume-“I wonder which one of these icons is us?”                    Marika-“Uh… maybe the one with the pirate flag?”

Marika-“If only we had a way to distract the enemy ships…but what?”

Gruier-“Did someone request a distraction!? Leave that to me, captain.”                 Marika-“Sure thing, loli-girl.”

Gruier reaches the bridge afterwards and Coorie gets a message from captain of The Queen Serendipity. She happens to know Gruier is actually aboard the Bentenmaru. So, who is this mysterious girl!? She is Grunhilde, another princess and she is a little sister to Gruier. I guess we can rule out clones for now. Anyway, Gruier has a short chat with her sister and refuses to back down no matter what! Damn, do not get in between those two girls when they have their minds set on something. After the sisters end their talk, the Golden Ghost Ship suddenly wakes up and scans the area checking for possible “threats” and the Bentenmaru takes this chance and rushes inside to secure a spot.

Grunhilde-“Don’t talk back to me, de geso!”                   Gruier-“Stop doing that…you aren’t Ika Musume right now.”

Marika-“Awesome, I totally want to see Gruier and Grunhilde fight to death.”

Kane-“Golden Ghost Ship detected, captain!”                     Marika-“I can see that…what would I do without you, Kane?”

However, the doors suddenly lock and the Golden Ghost Ship starts to enter sub space. I guess it wanted to hurry and make a dramatic exit? The episode ends shortly after with Marika telling Gruier she is going with her to explore the ship even though she refused to have the captain tag along. This is another message to Gruier that Marika wants to do everything in her power to protect her no matter the cost because it is her duty as a captain, but really I think Marika just wants to protect her new friend.

Kane, you are the master of many talents.

Kane-“I have succeeded in parking the ship.”                       Sandaime-“Yeah, and successfully scratched the paint right off the ship too!”

Marika-“Sorry, little girl, but I must be the first to touch the booty…”                    Gruier-“EEEEHHHHHH!?”

Extra space adventures

Marika-“Attention filler characters! You will probably die in random episodes.”                Crew-“……….”

Luca-“This new xbox still has freaking red rings of death…”                 Marika-“Damn, there goes my saved files on Mass Effect 3!”

Gruier-“Did anyone else hear a camera sound??”              Misa-“Sorry, butt I need DATA ASS shot for my collection.”

Coorie needs to meet Rika from Haganai at some point.

Marika-“Whoa! Watch it Kane!”                     Kane-“Sorry, but I can’t hear you over how awesome I feel right now.”

Whoa, this was such an exciting episode! There is so much to talk about this week. We got more amazing CGI with the Bentenmaru fighting its way through more dangerous “waters”, one of the highlights of the episode easily goes to Kane. You can really tell he loves being the man behind the wheel of the Bentenmaru. I seriously couldn’t help but start to laugh at how excited he got whenever Sandaime released the power limiters on the ship giving him full control! I really enjoyed when he got his moment to shine and how crazy he got near the end with that backwards maneuver he pulled… Damn Kane, you are the best.

Speaking of the crew, I really had no idea they actually had other pirates aboard. I mean I knew they had some extra people on the Bentenmaru that helped out on missions, but it was nice to discover there were more crew members besides the usual ones on the bridge. Next to Kane, my second favorite member will always be Coorie, mostly because I always like the computer expert or the crazy hacker-ish character like Tsugumi from Guilty Crown…only Coorie is more on the nerdy side and less on the overly cute side.

So, we finally learned who that other blond girl was and I figured it was Gruier’s sister after reading a few blogs about the previous episode. And a fun fact! She is voiced by Hisako Kanemoto aka Ika Musume and Yayoi from Smile Precure. That girl sure is appearing in a few series lately, but she doesn’t seem to be much of a threat to Gruier right now. Another highlight was Marika’s overall theme of protecting people close to her and sure it is technically her job as captain to do so, but I think Marika feels that everyone on the Bentenmaru has become her second family and she wants to make sure everyone is going to be safe.

Marika-“Did any of the extra crew wear their red shirts?”                     Crew-“…..why are you so mean to us!?”

Marika and the Bentenmaru crew enter the Golden Ghost Ship and have a standoff against Grunhilde.

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! less on the overly cute side.

Pah! Coorie is the cutest! THE CUSTEST, I say!

  2. skylion says:

Good action packed episode with the promise for more thrills upcoming. Loli-fight!

    • HannoX says:

Are we ready for a blonde loli catfight in spacesuits?

      • HannoX says:

But given their ages I suppose it’d be a kittenfight.

        • skylion says:

I’ll bring the pizza and the beer, you bring the chocolate covered cheescake bits, (man, I love those things). Fosh, bring some chips and dip, eh? We got us a loli brawl.

          Cat, kitten? Whatevah?

    • Foshizzel says:

Epic loli cage match fight GOOOOOOOOOOOO!

A great episode with lots of action, more scenery porn with the space background behind the Golden Ghost Ship, we get another blonde loli and they finally get inside the GGS.

Grunhilde is the eighth princess? Just how big is the Serenity Royal Family anyway and are there any princes?

I assume next episode we find out what Gruier and Grunhilde are looking for on the GGS and the crew of the Bentenmaru and the Serenity ships face off. Do you suppose the princesses will fight each other?

I actually hope this story arc ends in Episode 13. That should be sufficient to wrap it up without rushing. Episode 12 would be about exploring the GGS, finding what Gruier is looking for, learning what’s so important about it and ending with the two parties confronting each other over it. Episode 13 would be the episode where everything is resolved.

Then there would still be 13 episodes left for Marika & crew (with the addition of Gruier perhaps) to have a couple more adventures. Too many animes start dragging soon after the midway point when they run for 26 episodes. Changing storylines would avoid that. It would also allow us to see Marika still struggling with trying to be both a pirate captain and a high school girl.

Still, the makers of this show have been doing a great job up to now. I’m sure they could keep this Serenity storyline going to the end without it dragging.

Great as this anime has been so far, it needs two more things–more Blaster Ririka (coolest anime mom ever!) and more Space Yacht Club!

    • Foshizzel says:

Yep! Lots of good action and and of course more scenery porn all over thanks to that background! I can’t wait to see more of inside of that GGS…soon…

Yepp Grunhilde is the 8th princess! Yeah I wonder the same thing how many sisters does Gruier actually have? Probably a whole planet full of blonde loli girls.

Yeah I assume there is something special on board the GGS I really hope they tell us what is so important that everyone wants…I don’t think they will fight I bet Marika or Gruier gives some speech xD

Gruier is a fun and interesting character so far and Marika seems to be quite attached to her for now, but I really hope that Gruier stays on board the Bentenmaru for future space adventures <3 <3 yeah 13 should wrap up this "princess" arc.

Pace is good even though it is kind of slow for most people, I would say first time watchers are better off spam watching this series when it ends.

AGREED! More Ririka please! I imagine there will be some mini arc surrounding Marika's father?

This has got to be my favorite episode of Mouretsu Pirates yet. The highlight of the whole episode, imo, was Kane’s awesome parking skills XD

I wonder if next episode we get to figure out why this Golden ship is so important. I can’t figure it out. It’s an outdated ship, with people stuck in cold sleep on it. So why does anyone care?

    • HannoX says:

Most guesses have been because of someone in cold sleep aboard it, maybe an ancestor of the Serenity Royal Family.

    • Foshizzel says:

Kane is super pro! I love when he gets to drive the ship loolol he was so cool this week.

Yeah I assume there is someone on the GGS that is asleep and Gruier needs to wake them up, they probably have information about some big family secret? Maybe treasure related.

  5. Rakuen says:

So Marika’s decision to hold Gruier in reserve paid off just as expected. They didn’t have to look weak by initiating contact and trying to “barter” their way out. Instead, they got to react as the enemy came to them. On top of it, their little conversation flushed out the enemy’s mindset a little. I mean, am I the only one who found it odd that Grunhilde was on the defensive, despite having the far superior position?

Sorry Zeon wannabe, your sister is just too cool for you.

    • Foshizzel says:

Ahahaha yes! Smart thinking on Marika’s part and yeah it makes her look a bit better than “OH WE HAVE THE PRINCESS! STAND DOWN RIGHT NOW!” Thankfully she didn’t have to resort to such tactics right now.

I loved that short talk between the sisters, but it felt more like Gruier pushed her sister to the side and was like yeah I got here first so you can STFU now! That was great! So good for Gruier.

She is just missing a mask to complete her Char cosplay <3

  6. skylion says:

Oh, and If by next episode I see Sam Neil and Lawrence Fishburne fighting it to the death in the GGS’s computer core, I will know what the original Queen Serendipity was all along.

    Liberate tutame!

  7. Myst says:

Kane is awesome, just plain and simple.. 😀

  8. Mushyrulez says:

For next episode’s post, you should just photoshop sunglasses on everyone. And everything. If the thing doesn’t have a face, draw one, and then put sunglasses on them. To protect against solar radiation, right?

    (I don’t know what I’m thinking anymore…)

  9. BlackBriar says:

The series has become more awesome than it usually has and it’s squeezed a lot of action and suspense along with the ride.

I hope they clear up the story between Gruier and her younger sister. Those two look like the have a sibling feud going on.

And let’s not forget Kane’s badass parking. Where does he get his license?
