First Impression – Astarotte no Omocha!

Dragons, demons and Loli girls everywhere!

Fosh:Welcome to another first impressions of the spring anime season! This time we tackle Astarotte no Omocha! This looked like a fun little anime as I started reading the manga to this series recently. Not as bad as people claim it would be! Well, let’s join Sassy for this strange tag review.

Sassy: Everyone gives Lotte such a bad rep for pretty much no reason whatsoever, but since Fosh and I know better, we’ll be bringing you a post full of a 10-year old NOT doing you-know-what.

Plot revolves around Princess Astarotte Ygvar, our main loli girl as she prepares to make a male harem of her own! Astarotte really hates men, but Judith one of her subjects uses  magic to open a portal to the human world to get a suitable male for Astarotte to drain of his “Sauzfryma” and so begins the adventures in the fantasy world of Alfhimr.

Nothing like a fireball after tea to get the blood flowing!

After we get a bit of fun with Astarotte and the dragon’s fireball, we get to a bath scene! It turns out to be more like a swimming pool than an outdoor bath. We get to the real plot of the story, as Judith explains to Astarotte that she needs to find a suitable male to “suck” out his “Sauzfryma” aka semen to maintain her body. With the help of banana’s for visual aid! Yes, strange way to maintain her body but this is a succubus we are talking about.

So far I like these character designs!

Judith- “Yes, go practice with a banana…”

Astarotte- “Wait really? Oh, okay… I’ll get right on that after I pose for the camera.”

Taking it nice and easy in the pool err bath… wait, maybe both?!

But Astarotte has other ideas after hearing about humans being really rare in the Kingdome of Ygvar, so she sends Judith to get her one. Secretly she hopes it would give herself some time to avoid doing the deed with any male and get Judith off her back for a while, however this plan backfires and Judith discovers a way to the human world using the Ygvar tree.

Is this the team rocket home base? Look at that double R!

Astarotte-“Yes, my plan is going to be set in motion! Muhahahaha!”

Judith- “Hmmm, let’s see ten gallons of dragon blood and the tears of a loli? Interesting ingredients.”

After Astarotte hears that Judith is near to breaking the gateway to the human realm, she attempts to stop her; only to actually trigger the portal with her magic powers, of course. That tail of hers is quite powerful, wonder if that is her weakness like the demon girls from Toloveru? Somehow I see this working out the same. So, Judith wakes up in the other world to go hunting for humans to kidnap er borrow…

Pro tip: dragon flying… DOING IT WRONG!

Griselda Reginhard aka “Zelda” here! She is one of my favorites from the manga so fun to watch.

What I find funny with this is Astarotte gets worried for Judith being alone in the human world, and actually sets up a rescue plan to get her back. I thought she didn’t like Judith! Ah well, I guess she does love everyone who live with her.

Will admit Elfreda is cute too; love those ears of hers, she is the “milk maid”

Judith bumps into Naoya our main male and his smaller friend Asuha!

Naoya- “Get paid to survive in the demon world?”         Judith-“Uhh, yes, and get kicked every day?”

Before Astarotte can break into the human world to save her friend, the portal activates again. Astarotte prepares to catch Judith but rather than her, she grabs hold of Naoya and blushes like crazy. The episode ends with her screaming in typical Rei Kugimiya fashion; ah, the flashbacks of Zero no Tsukaima begin to flood my mind.

Technically this is Mikoto X Astarotte if you check the voice actors.

Astarotte- “I touched a man! I can never become a bride anymore! Nooooooo!!”

More magic

Astarotte-“I will have more close up shots than Yumekui Merry! I SWEAR!”

Pantsu shots were actually rare in this show! Expect more in the future.

The reaction of main characters while reading the plot of the series.

Also expect this dude to take several beatings from the hands and feet of Astarotte.

Great eye catch artwork, yes both girls are ten years old…

End Thoughts:

Fosh: First half was a slow introduction to the main cast; so far I like most of the characters. Astarotte has a cute design and high class voice work; of course, Rei Kugimiya is either hit or miss with most people. I don’t mind her as much as others but she generally gets these roles all the time, so she does a good job as the main character. The rest of the cast is also fun to watch, mostly the interaction between Astarotte, Judith and Zelda! Those are probably my most favorite so far, but that could change depending on how things go with the whole series.

The animation was also nicely done especially the character designs, so that really kept my attention with all the cute expressions. I liked the setting too, those parts were also nicely animated; hopefully we get to see more than just the castle. The music really has a good fantasy feel to it so that helped set the mood during the random bits of comedy. Another soundtrack that I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on sometime down the road.

Now for the plot! Yes, it sounds like some very bad hentai storyline, but they did a good job not talking about it for too long. Now I know it will get brought up again later, however this show doesn’t look like they would go that far. Of course, you can expect Astarotte to accidentally walk in on baths, because it does happen so people shouldn’t be too shocked. So, that will be interesting to see how far we can go without the random LOL SUCKING jokes to die down.

Sassy: Lotte is probably the most misunderstood anime this season, evident by the fact that most people seem to think it’s all about “a 10-year old doing xxx” or something along those lines. To be fair, that’s pretty much all the summary says, and I won’t condemn anyone for not doing the research ahead of time (there is a manga) since I rarely do so myself anyways. Just to clear things up, at no point does Lotte ever do anything sexual. Ever. Of course, even when you set aside the fact that, while being pretty fanservice-y, it’s not nearly as screwed up as people think, I won’t say that means the anime is necessarily good.

The setting reeks of Zero no Tsukaima, and the characters are pretty reminiscent as well. You’ve got this fantasy world with demons and magical creatures or something like that (Judit is an elf!) paralleled with the normal human world, and some hapless fellow gets dragged across the boundary. Throw in some random panty shots and you’re pretty much set. The music is decent enough, the best part coming around the middle when Judit is chilling out in front of the world tree. Not really crazy about the silly tracks that play when they’re fooling around, but they’re pretty typical of a comedy/ecchi anime.

Character-wise, I like Judit and Zelda because you might say they’re the normal ones in the court. Effie would be okay, but her massive boobs are kind of… eh. But the character I really hate is Lotte herself. More specifically, her voice. I’m tempted to drop it right now because of Rie Kugimiya’s annoying stutter… you know what I’m talking about. If it were someone else, I could bear it, but when Rie Kugimiya does it, I just want to stab my ears out with some conveniently paired chopsticks.

Overall, the anime isn’t particularly outstanding, but given that it seems to be moving pretty slowly through the source material (episode 1 literally covers half a chapter), I might continue watching just to see what sort of weird, new stuff they add in.

Preview!

Exploding girls?!

Next week! More insane fun with Astarotte! Time for her to meet the human she will be stuck with for most of this show.

Thanks!

    • Foshizzel says:

Lol well its not all bad that people claim! Seriously! I don’t think were going to have a full blown xxx scene. Just another misunderstood show, honestly Panty and Stocking is far worse.

  4. Vivi says:

Whoa, two shows this season making banana jokes!

I’m still not sure if I should watch this, even though it’s not hentai… If she’s supposed to suck the stuff from the banana and the banana represents what I think it does, does that mean she will have to literally suck some dude’s dick!? WHAT

Can they get the stuff into a cup and have her drink it instead of suck it?

    • Foshizzel says:

      Lol yep yep xD

Well I don’t think things will get that far…honestly it seems to be a cute show to have any xxx scenes, but I think people will bash it even without watching. I don’t blame anyone who would rather skip it, probably saving your time if you do.

      LOL no idea xD

  5. Namika says:

Those character designs are really cute!
But I’m still uncertain about this one…. ==”

    • Foshizzel says:

Hahaha yeah they are really cute, sadly people just don’t like this show due to the sexual themes. Which I don’t think things like that will ever happen >.>

      • Namika says:

I’m not the type that drops the show only because it has sexual themes in it(Heck, I sat through Bgata Hkei!! O_O) but the plot of this show is just too much for me xD

        • Foshizzel says:

HAhaha true that Bgata was more sexual than this, yeah I am about the same I will check out a few more episodes before giving this a final NO for watching 😛

True as well, might not be for everyone.

  6. MikADo says:

First I saw the design and thought: ero – not watching
than i heard that the original is : semi – ero + slice of life
so decided to hop aboard this train

  7. Piroca de Fantasma é Geladinha says:

Just watched the first episode yesterday, as I’ve waited for the blu-ray.
In a word, I found it to be BORING.
I’ll watch the 2nd episode and, if it doesn’t get better, I’ll drop it.

I find the lack of Lotte no Omocha most disturbing…
