Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma✫Illya 2wei Herz! – 6echstse

2weiherz! 6-9

Miyu is ready for next episode! But hold your equines…

Well, we have one last stab (and in Klaus’ case, a whole lot of slicing) at light comedy before we take the plunge into the Mirror World. But there’s a lot of elephants being regarded in lots of rooms.

A whole herd of elephants. But then, this is the Fate Universe, and people just have to have their secrets, for their own good reasons. Or, given what Iris is unable to contemplate, a whole new game to consider. It’s never what it seems in the Nasu neighborhood that is for sure.

“Give me a place to belong”

2weiherz! 6-10

Better the sister you know…

At it’s heart, this is Miyu’s moment. It’s been plain to the audience, and not so to her friends and assosiates, but she has been holding a great deal in reserve since the franchise began. So, just when she has the opportunity to divulge what she knows, she holds back. She doesn’t really want to hold back, she wants this weight off her shoulders. So is she afraid of equivalent exchange or worse? That by letting this go, she’ll become burdened with something else? Luvia and Illya, to their credit, allow her to do what she needs in her own time. Kuro…well, she is another complicated story…

Miyu even goes as far to think that the mission for the Eight Card is better off without her in it’s ranks. She’s a lonely girl, stepping out from obscurity (nice framing that on a child’s playground) into a world that is much much larger than what she realizes. And the missions she undertook defined her to the point of Official Magical Girl Turmoil for both her and Illya during the climax of the first series. She gives off an uber-competent air, but this is still a frightened, yet determined, little girl…

Now, I’ve been on the manga like a tick on the back of a dog’s neck, as have many other fans. So, I know the outcome. But I would love to hear what people, that aren’t as ensconced as we are, spill with some ideas. Please make sure to use the spoil tags in comments!

Life is what happens…

2weiherz! 6-8

Sticking to the basics…

Well, as far as planning goes, you really cannot get more direct than this tactical session proves to be. I don’t know how much information either Rin or Luvia have access to when it comes to the Mage’s Association, but regardless, it seems they are following the common sense approach based on some solid anecdotal practice. Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans, that are doomed to fail, that fall apart after the first volley, anyway. So, it’s Mahou Shoujo brute force, and then get creative with the ensuing chaos.

They do rather have a Bazett, and those are hard to come by, and even harder to get on your side. It’s a conditional Bazett, as the discussion between Rin and the Bazett play out. But this Bazett is very cautious about using the girls in this sort of battle. It’s almost like she can’t even getting her arse handed to her when she crossed them. That was with Kuro on the line, so as Rin thoughtfully points out, Team Illya rocks it when it’s down to the righteous fight. And really, when it comes to this gang, what other sort of fight do they ever really have?

The Elephants

2weiherz! 6-12

Gone, but not forgotten…

Well, if you follow the events in the main Fate/Stay Night universe some things remain at a constant. The Grail, no matter the War, is always the Grail. All of the who, what, when, where, and why may change singers, but the song usually remains the same. So why are there Cards; with limited power, to go along with limited personality, limited scope, and limited focus? Why are they all of a sudden the going concern instead of servants? If there is a connection, then how much tissue stretches between what we know in the main universe and in this changed one. Since the Archer Class Card is spoken for, and oh how spoken for (and very much about) it is, what does this and the Eighth Card’s mana drain mean in the long run?

Lot’s of clues have been given in the series already. I’ll hit some of the main ones. One, the Mage’s Associtation had little information on the Eizenbern’s, who now are just an ordinary, if not very odd, family. Things have changed a great deal, as was revealed last season with the emergence of Kuro.

The Fifth Grail War never happened. Both Iris and Illya figured greatly when it came to the Bloody Cup. So how does this effect them now?  So why is Shirou a going concern here? Why is Kiritsugu an absent figure, and what exactly is he doing with his time? So, that lines up the Elephant of Too Little Information, and the Elephant of an Uncertain Miyu….along with what promises to be one hell up an uphill battle. It’s not as easy as 1ein, 2wei, 3rei is it?

All Play and no Work

I’ve pretty much covered what I wanted to for this episode. Silver Link is still going strong, and boy do they ever know how to illustrate and animate wet clothing. I mean…. We’ve a great deal of stakes committed to the final fight, and I thought it was well worth covering them before the gang finally heads into the breach. For many of you, that have been hanging around the past six weeks or so, that’s been quite the wait. I already had my say on the nature of the show last episode, so I won’t repeat here. But I do expect a slew of “is it safe to come back yet” comments both now and next time. Speaking of which….

Yep, it’s going to be a battle…

Six weeks… That’s half a season so “quite the wait” is an understatement. Good to know the episodes diverting from the main plot of the series are finally at an end and it wasn’t soon enough. I’ve been more than patient enough to see something actually happen. Jitsu wa Watashi wa and Chaos Dragon already got axed from the line-up this Summer for being displeasing and I didn’t want to add Prisma Illya to the drop list.

Two possibilities take hold in my mind surrounding Miyu. Either she has amnesia or she may not be a natural born person. I don’t recall her ever talking about herself and her origins before meeting Luvia. That flashback of their first meeting makes it all the more eerie.

“A” Bazett? Hahaha!! When did she become a usable object or different species?

For a moment, like Kuro, I was under the impression Iris was feigning ignorance about the cards’ existence. But if she truly doesn’t know about them and they have no connection to the Holy Grail War, then they’re existences of a completely different nature making use of the same classes as the Grail War servants. Besides, there’s no information proving there’s an eighth class servant.

…when I found it amusing to write in that fashion is when…Of course, this one featured in this story might be the definitive article…

But this Bazett is very cautious about using the girls in this sort of battle. It’s almost like she can’t even getting her arse handed to her when she crossed them.

Given that she handed their arses to them, in every fahsion, to the point that they had to bluff her multiple times and finally completely change the rules she thought she was working under in order to get her to let them live, her objections are perfectly valid from her perspective.

    • skylion says:

Neither Illya herself, nor Bazett, realize that the above is the Dominant Paradigm of the Primsaverse…But guess who’s favor it works out in at the very end of it all?

Such a pure show this week. :3

    NYAA! Do you speak it?!

Oh sweet Neko-LOLi x3! Someone actually did cosplay Illya as the neko-LOLi…

Kuro gets to the bottom of this Class Card thing…

    Heh… bottom… heh…

Also, “in a cramped pool, you can touch your cute sister anywhere and it’s just an accident~” Just like a proper GARcher.

Delicious Mama Iri… Technically speaking if you really consider the origins of the Einzbern homonculi… Iri is a LOLi that looks older than she is. :3 Ergo, she is technically illegal. 😛

    • Wanderer says:

Not in this universe. There are no indications of homunculi in this universe. The Einzbern family has never participated in a Holy Grail War. The attempt they were going to make with Illya (who is also human) was their first attempt in this universe.

      • skylion says:

I was under the impression since last season that the Fate/Zero Holy Grail War and all subsequent were halted right before the events of Fate/Zero started. So, under that impression, these are homonculi…just liberated…

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

They off’ed the old man and ran away to elope is my version. Of course taking some meido for some action.

        • Wanderer says:

The official word, and that which can also be understood if you read the manga more closely, is that the grail wars never started in this world. History began diverging there. Einzbern was the first to try to start it.

Recall what knowledge you may have of the source. The entire holy grail war system in Fuyuki was begun by the Einzbern, Tohsaka, and Matou families. If history back to that point had not been changed, merely killing the Einzberns and freeing Illya would not have prevented the war.

Also there’s much simpler evidence that Illya isn’t a homunculus. She’s 11 years old. She had been alive for 8 months when the memories that eventually became Kuro were sealed. That was ten years before Kuro came to exist as a separate individual. Illya is aging like a normal human.

The three families never worked together to start the holy grail system in this universe. The Einzberns instead decided to try it alone, and their first attempt happened 11 years ago, and involved making certain changes to Iris and Kiritsugu’s completely human baby to allow her to serve as a conduit for the grail.

        • belatkuro says:

There’s one fundamental difference actually that some seem to forget. The HGW that Kerry and Iri stopped isn’t the same as the one in Zero. It wasn’t the 4th war, but the 1st one. There was nothing before. What’s more is that the Tohsakas aren’t involved in it, else Rin would know more about the HGW and the Einzberns. The Einzberns were the ones to approach the Tohsakas after all to ask for help to reach the 3rd Magic using the HGW.

Also, Sella and Liz were made for the 5th HGW and are just under 2 years old in the main story. They wouldn’t have existed 10 years ago here in Prillya. And there’s a part where Shirou was a small grade schooler and Sella was already around. So it’s hard to say if they’re really homunculus or not or functioning properly without a limited lifespan.

Frankly, all of these differences are not important that much in Prillya. It’s interesting to note all the differences from this timeline and the FSN one but seeing as they’re not being addressed even by the author Hiroyama, it’s sort of pointless to speculate further. There are a lot of things one wants to know about this universe, like Rin’s parents, the Matous, Kotomine, etc but in the end, they don’t matter at all in the plot. Show ▼

The Nasuverse is like a kaleidoscope after all. Changing the scope slightly can change the view that you’re looking at.

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

Which brings us to the disturbing fact:

            Show ▼

I try to not think about the logic too much since many things ended differently in the Prillyaverse as compared to the main Nasuverse. It’s just as complicated as the DC/Marvel Universe. 😛

            The Show ▼

Prillyaverse to me is one where Illya gets to grow up as a regular girl. Sorta. Kinda. Maybe. Hell, it’s as normal as you can get in any of the Nasuverse. Show ▼

I think I put the spoiler tags correctly. Anyway, it’s time for 36+ chapters of non-stop angsty action. Say bye-bye Tatsuko, Mimi, Nanaki, Suzuka because we’re not getting them anytime in the near or distant future. Silver Link just milked them for all they’re worth this season. 😛

              Show ▼

Yeah, I think you got the tags correct. But I have no idea what you mean with the second one…

Yep, they milk pretty much all they could out of splitting 2wei up like this. But hey, I’m not going to splat on Sliver Link for wanting to make some money on the discs. After all, that money is going towards making 3rie look awesome, or at least some of it.

          • skylion says:

I’ll address my reply to both Wanderer and belatkuro.

Yeah, looks like I might have glossed over some things in my own readings. So in my memory of events, it was the F/Z HGW that was prevented. This is mostly because it seems plausible. I can get that he prevented one, but all of them? It just seems to be less expostional “heavy lifting” to branch the Prismaverse from F/Z, and keep all the shenanigans from both Grail Wars from happening.

But on further reflection, dithering about the fate of one fantasty universe over another seems pointless.

And belatkuro points out the obvious way to go about things in the spoiler.

            • Wanderer says:

The thing is, even with the way stuff is going to go, Prisma Illya is written so that it can, at least possibly, be the universe where Illya gets to live the sort of proper happy life, with a happy ending, that she could never have in the regular universe. If only the Fate/Zero war had been prevented but none of the others, Iris would be dead from age by now and Illya would be 18 and only have about 2 years left to live. There’s no way her fans would be happy with that happening to her again.

The Prismaverse is a place where if Illya tries hard enough, if she belives astrongly enough, she can find a way to reach her happy ending, no matter what stands in her way. The hideous backstory of the holy grail wars would ruin that, so it cannot be allowed to exist here.

            • Wanderer says:

Apologies for sounding aggressively stubborn about this, but it has been a subject of some debate in some places, by people refusing to even accept some of the material that is plainly written in the manga itself as being fact, simply because it interfered with their belief that “everything had to be exactly the same as F/SN canon.” It has become something of a sore point for me, so whenever I find someone holding any misconceptions about something in that area whatsover, I try to clear them up, perhaps a bit more aggressively than is actually necessary.

            • skylion says:

The hideous backstory of the holy grail wars would ruin that, so it cannot be allowed to exist here.

Yes. This line explains everything. This is how it should be in the Prismaverse. As for being aggressive? I didn’t perceive it that way. To the point and honest? Yep. But, thank you for caring about the tone of the comment section. I appreciate that.
