Meta Team’s Summer Anime 2015 Picks

Summer2015-main

(」・ω・)」It’s the summer list… NOT! (/・ω・)/!

winter15-kyoThings happened and we will not be releasing our usual seasonal preview this anime season. Gomeennn! It was mostly me, along with a few team members either on hiatus or too busy to contribute. However, things are as lively as ever here and the meta team will keep on kicking as usual. It might be summer for most of you but I’m freezing in the Oz cold and life has been a bit too hectic lately due to long work hours and more responsibilities. I will be having a quiet season this time around (looking forward to God Eater, Durarara!!x2 Ten, Working!!!, Gangsta for now). Anyways, rather than an elaborate list, the Meta Team has chimed in below on their most awaited series releasing in Summer that look promising and are worth more than a check-out.

————————————————————–

winter15-ocGosh, I’m terrible at predicting which shows I’m going to like. You might as well just make me throw darts at a board with all the summer anime titles on them. That being said, I’m definitely more excited for some shows than others. While last season only had a small handful of shows I truly liked (and saying a handful is being generous), I see quite a few summer shows that are promising. The question is…will they fulfill their potential when the summer season actually rolls around? We don’t know yet but that’s why we’re here to speculate so you can laugh in my face later if a show I was excited for totally flops!

summer15-oc[ Gatchaman Crowds Insight ] GATCHAMAAAAAN! Just hearing the catchy, iconic Gatchaman song in episode 0 of this second season was enough to get me feeling really positive about the new season. Gatchaman Crowds is one of those franchises just bursting with creativity and life. Last season I think it might have been a little too lively, and all the different ideas lead director Kenji Nakamura wanted to express simply couldn’t fit in one season. Not without being a little nonsensical and directionless towards the end, that is. So why am I excited for a second season when I feel that season 1 had a lacklustre ending? Because all in all, this is a fun show that gives me a lot to talk/think about. It’s also so incredibly memorable that I know it’s the kind of show I won’t forget about years down the line – and that’s worth something. (Oh and it’s my favourite director too. I’m totally not playing favourites here).

[ Gangsta ] Gritty, rough, and edgy…Gangsta may just be the opposite of Gatchaman Crowds. But that’s just how people’s tastes in anime can pan out, right? It’s boring when you only like one thing! So Gangsta will be this season’s way of scratching my itch for good action and fighting, along with what I assume to be a very dramatic storyline. And gangstas, can’t forget those.

[ Non Non Biyori Repeat ] …And then this one is also a total opposite from Gangsta. Non Non Biyori was an iyashikei show that brought on the healing vibes so strongly that just 5 minutes of it made me want to melt into a puddle of glee. Even on stressful days, Non Non Biyori punches me in the teeth with how relaxing it was. You simply can not resist the charm and cuteness of this show. It will destroy you. Do not underestimate the power of Non Non Biyori!

[ Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls S2 ] I don’t know what happened, but somewhere along the way I started getting dragged into idol hell – a prison from which no one can escape from. It’s only a matter of time before I start buying Anzu body pillows and proclaiming Nico Nico Nii~ to everyone I meet. As my spiral towards madness continues, I will be watching season 2 of cinderella girls and loving every minute of it. The music is good, the dancing is good, the slice of life is good….Oh god, I’m in so deep I can’t even see the light anymore!

[ God Eater ] I was hard-pressed for spot number 5 here. Gakkou Gurashi looks great, but at the same time I think there’s only so much loli fanservice I can withstand before I want to dump a bucket of water over my head to wash off how skeevy it all feels. Prison School is a fantastic manga, but the trailer already shows that this adaptation will be a pale imitation so my hype level is at -5 to avoid disappointment. God Eater is based off of a game series I’ve actually played and it looks beautiful. There’s not too much to the story besides fighting with giantass morphing weapons – and that’s good. UFO Table is great at animating action, so that’s all I really expect out of this. Stellar fight scenes and a little bit of drama to make sure it’s faithful to the game. I’m looking forward to see how this adaptation because even though game adaptations are usually atrocious, at least this one will look pretty even if it bombs in every other area.

winter15-foshWoooooooooooooooooo! Summer time means beach episodes every day! Just kidding! For me it just means hot weather and lots of damn thunderstorms, but at least we have a great batch of new anime for the summer to enjoy and boy am I excited! Besides the five I have selected below I am quite excited for things like Durarara!!x2 Ten, Gakkou Gurashi, God Eater, Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou and finally The Idolmaster Cinderella girls 2nd season so yeah I’m super hyped for the summer anime season to start.

summer15-fosh[ Aquarion Logos ] After Aquarion EVOL ended I felt like I needed more Aquarion in my life and to my surprise it got another brand new season with all new characters and a new setting, but past that I don’t know what else this new series will do outside of typical Aquarion fare such as loud moaning from the guys and girls combining their machines to form one kick ass robot! Yes those are things each Aquarion has done and it will never stop that. Sadly I think those ecchi elements of every season tends to keep any new fans from breaking into the odd fandom, but as Skylion said the other half of any Aquarion series revolves around a romance element that is usually centered around two past reincarnated lovers meeting thousands of years later! Yeah that does sound kinda dumb and EVOL played with the same things; however my enjoyment comes from the insane fights and special moves pulled off by the Aquarion mecha and normally I find the fun side characters and goofball villains to be the most fun.

[ Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX ] By now what can I really say about Symphogear? Since this is the third season I don’t think I have to sell this series to you especially if you have seen the first two or do I? For starters if you love things like Vividred Operation, Macross and AKB0048 then you will love the mix of fighting evil while singing songs to increase your power! Symphogear blends in a ton of over the top action with badass characters and yuri elements! Just kidding on the yuri even though it would totally fit since there are little to no male high school students with magical powers, but I am really hyped to see how the cast of season one and two team up to battle the new evil characters with the power of MUSIC!!

[ To LOVE-Ru Darkness 2nd ] YES MORE BOOBS err I mean time for more Momo’s harem builder 2015 the ANIMATION which is a way better title in my opinion, but there really isn’t a whole lot to say about this series because if you are a fan then you totally know what you’re getting into which is Rito falling on top of girls landing in some strange and awkward positions aka head under skirt or face full of pantsu or boobs! Yes Tusk from Cross Ange must have learned his skills from Master Rito! Anyway while those moments will always be part of the To-Love-Ru brand there is an actual story with Momo building a harem for Rito who isn’t fully onboard with that idea because he still has his eyes set on Haruna or Lala as his girlfriend.

[ Classroom Crisis ] Space is always an interesting thing in anime because most people try to put real world logic behind things and it always makes me laugh! I remember when fans took apart Captain Earth’s space tech, anyway I guess we are going to Mars in this series huh? Cool I guess and no this isn’t Aldnoah.Zero season three because this looks to be more slice of life and less earthlings versus martians, then again I wouldn’t mind something of that sort for the drama parts, but I am only interested in the scifi elements! I just hope they can stick to that without dropping those bits like Plastic Memories did…

[ Dragon ball Chou ] Wow so we’re getting a brand new Dragon Ball series this year? Oh my god I might have to dig up my nostalgia goggles for this because DBZ back in the day had a huge impact on me and opened my eyes to the world of anime! Yes thanks to original run of Toonami it helped a lot of fans in the US discover anime even though “purists” will say ewww it was dubbed thou so it must have sucked right? Say what you will about dubs, but without them how would I have got into anime? Anyway what about this new season? As far as I know it takes place after the new movies battle of gods and resurrection of F and it continues the story of SSJ God Goku fighting off new gods that try to destroy the universe! Personally I want some other characters like Vegeta, Gohan, Goten and Trunks to do more this time around instead of Goku, but yes I am happy to see this.

winter15-anaagaDespite of my comeback for Metanorn this summer, I don’t feel excited about summer at all because I still need to do my internship during the holiday, and that means less anime and yaoi. There’s also the fact that I have crappy connection, so I don’t think I’ll watch many anime this season. However, there are some anime I am willing to stay up until morning and wait until it loads because some of the titles have some special meaning for me, such as God Eater and Junjou Romantica. There’s also other interesting titles such as the hardcore Gangsta, soothing Non Non Biyori, confusing Durarara, and so on. It seems that some titles are promising for this summer, so maybe this will be that summer where I actually watch more anime than the previous summer seasons. Oh wait, internship *sigh*

summer15-anaaga[ God Eater ] I’ve played God Eater Burst and not God Eater, so I don’t  know what to expect from the story. I’m kind of disappointed too because the main character is not Yuu Kannagi but a brand new character named Utsugi Renka who has this weird hair and eyebrows. Nevertheless, I’ll be looking forward to this anime because just like some Meta writers I invested many of my hours playing this game until the end (one of my few first PSP games actually, therefore the attachment), and the thought of having something I have played turned into anime excites me. Besides, the protagonist did not develop much as a character in the PSP game, so let’s see whether we’ll get the unexpected sides of the protagonist that we didn’t see in the game.

[ Working!!! ] BIs this dream coming true? Because Working is getting a third season HELL YEAH I’ve been praying for such miracle since the end of season 2 whooo. Thank goodness they’re having season 3 after the manga ends because this means that there’s  a possibility the third season will finish off the story instead of giving us anti-climatic realistic cliffhangers. Of course, everything depends on the amount of episodes they will air, but I hope that the can tie up all loose ends the audience crave for.

[ Junjou Romantica ] Honestly I’m tired of this series because it’s turning into one of those annoying manga that needs to be stopped now, but I’ll have to admit that JR contributed to the appearance of many BL shows I we got today. So ehhhh I guess I’ll be looking forward to this, I guess? Damn it if only this weren’t BL.

[ Non Non Biyori Repeat ] This anime…. This anime… I have no words for this anime except NGGHHH and KYAAAA. I can’t wait for this anime to air and have my loli tendencies to appear this summer. Who cares about summer and beach and boobs and harem when we can get a bunch of kawaii little kids doing kawaii things in the mountains? Ren Loli forever!

[ Akagami no Shirayuki-hime ] I don’t know why but I’ve been hooked to shoujo/josei manga these days, and Shirayuki-hime is not an exception. Even though I’ve only read the first few chapters, I became hooked instantly with the relationship between the can’t-remember-the-names female and male protagonists. I’m itching for them to hook up already, and the thought of seeing one of my ships animated really excites me. Seriously, what’s with me and sappy shoujo/josei manga? A-am I slowly turning into an adult!?

winter15-karaI can’t believe it’s summer already. I want spring back!! It’s too warm! I guess there’s new anime to look forward to at least. Plus if summer never came, there wouldn’t be any more Shokugeki no Souma and then what would I watch to pretend that my lazily put together meals are more gourmet? As for the new upcoming anime, I have fond memories of calling Soma my husbando, so God Eater should be good. There are a lot of cuter shows like Gakkou Gurashi and IM@S as well to balance out the action. …Well, I guess depending on your definition of cute. The girls of Gakkou are adorable at least. I can’t say that for the non-main characters…
summer15-kara[ God Eater ] Normally a video game adaptation is normally “meh” news, but ufotable has apparently stated that they’re not going to use CG for this one. This might be bad news since normal animation has the chance to be more QUALITY, but after Unlimited Blade Works, I put my faith in ufotable! Aside from the awesome animation that’s more than likely to happen, I’m just a huge fan of God Eater in general! The story line is pretty good, the characters have fanservice for both sides, with the underboob (or impractical clothing in general) for the guys and bamf male characters for the ladies. Plus if this goes well, they might animate God Eater 2, which had a way better story (in my opinion anyways, but that might just be because I got attached to Gil) and had the cool blood arts system, which would look cool animated. But seeing the god arcs in general should be cool~.

[ IM@S Cinderella Girls S2 ] Ahh, I’m so excited for this! I’ve been really into idol based shows this year (probably because LLSIF has taken over my life for the past year) and the Cinderella Girls side of Idolm@ster are just all so adorable. I just about died from cuteness overload the last season with that Ranko episode, so I’m looking forward to more of that!
————————————————————–
————————————————————–
————————————————————–

[ Ranpo Kitan ] I admittedly do not know very much Edogawa Ranpo, nor his works, but the fact that this seems to be a detective story, involves murder (in a middle school apparently, which is pretty hardcore), and it looks pretty dark has my attention. …Also, the visual aesthetic reminds me a lot of an otoge I’m playing (Kokuchou no Psychedelica) and while I KNOW these two projects aren’t even close to the same thing, I like the general atmosphere if that makes sense. …That’s probably not the best reason to look forward to a show, but I’m looking forward to it nonetheless.

[ Gatchaman Crowds Insight ] The main issue from the first season of Crowds seemed pretty solved, but I’m sure whatever the new issue is, it should be good. I know the whole plot to Crowds was unrealistically optimistic, and Hajime was the protagonist that could do no wrong, but I loved the vibe from the first season and the feel-good plot is nice to have once in a while.

winter15-hoshiLet me tell you that I absolutely HATE summer. I hate the heat, the sweating, going to the beach, pretty much everything about summer. SO, you’ll find me constantly grumpy throughout thesummer15-hoshi season, giving out some not-so necessary harsh criticism about the majority of anime premiering during the summer. Not to mention summer anime has always let me down in some way (with the exception of Gekkan Shoujo last summer, god bless). So, am I excited for summer season? Absolutely not. However, I’ll take the itty bitty number of shows that don’t have extremely sexual stuff to watch and see if the summer season can redeem itself, or at least keep me distracted from the heat…
————————————————————–
————————————————————–
————————————————————–

[ Gangsta ] The only reason this is at the top if because I’ve already Gangsta and absolutely love it (and have been able to buy it here in the States thanks to the all mighty Viz). While the story may be slow at times, there’s some great action bits and lots to uncover about Ergastulum and the characters living within it. It starts off simply, but overtime the story grows more complex along with its characters, and it’s a lot of fun, especially if you’re into mature hitman/mafia stories. The only thing I’m really iffy about concerning the anime is the animation, but eh, what can I do? My only hope is that they beef up the action in the series and really give us some good, heart-pumping action scenes.

————————————————————–

[ Gatchaman Crowds Insight ] The first season was a bit of a blur for me, so all I remember is not actually finishing the show…However, after seeing the character designs again, I got pretty excited for it. I remember enjoying the first season quite a bit before I stopped watching, so I’m willing to give it a rewatch and head onto the second season.~

[ Gakkou Gurashi ] I’ve been hearing good things about this for the boys on the Metanorn team, so I’m actually looking forward to this series. It’s cool to see this darker twist to the typical moe girls/slice of life trend, and I’m interested to see how dark this series will be able to be without completely breaking the happy facade.~

winter15-highwOne thing I always say is that people shouldn’t be deciding how a season is going to be before the season even starts. But then, I’m not the kind of person who looks forward to new series. They’ll get here when they get here, and I’ll watch and enjoy them then. So as always, we have a list of shows that could be good or could be bad, and how we think of them depends on how the individual parts strike us. But here are some that I think will be fun to watch.

[ Charlotte ] II think everyone knows that I can’t stay away from PA Works shows. They have made some of my favorite works ever, and I love the detail and care they put into everything they do. We’ll see if this Jun Maeda (whose name you just might recognize) story about a high school pair with superpowers goes, since those have previously been the domain of KyoAni (Air, Clannad, and Kanon) or JC Staff (Little Busters!), although PA Works has done Angel Beats. I definitely think they’ll get the melancholy feel right, but we’ll see how depressing the story gets.
[ Joukamachi no Dandelion ] A whole family of royalty who happen to have superpowers. But the next to the throne isn’t decided yet, as they’re all going to be followed by cameras and coverage of their everyday lives, so that the population of the country can choose their next monarch. This show is where all the name talent for voice acting is this season, with Ai Kayano and Kana Hanazawa leading Kaori Ishihara and a super long list of others in this comedy.
[ Kangoku Gakuen ] I’m all in on anything directed by Tsutomo Mizushima at this point, after Girls und Panzer, Shirobako, and Witch Craft Works. And besides that, this show sounds like one that kinda runs the direction I want to go anyway. We’ll see if it veers too much into the non-consensual, which is a huge turnoff for me, but I hope it tempers any of that. I’m also hoping that it doesn’t go too overboard on the reaction shots, since I find that to get a little annoying, but it seems like that’s a staple of the manga.
[ Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou ] “Everyday Life with Monster Girls”. I don’t know if there’s more you can say about the show than that. Well, you can add a couple things: the monsters are sexy monster girls, and they’re going to live with a boy… but the laws against miscegenation between monsters and humans are very strict. That’s not gonna stop these girls from trying, or at least being attracted to Kimihito. A lot of unknown seiyuu in this cast, so we’ll see if Director Tatsuya Yoshihara can wrangle it all together, the same way he did with the high-energy Muromi-san.
[ Okusama wa Joshikousei ] I know it’s a short, but I’m a sucker for “My wife is…” (or even “My Husband is…”) setups. So this short where the new Student Council President wins the election over the vice-president, and then claims she’s his wife, will probably be just fine. The manga is described as amazingly cute, so I don’t see how it can go wrong.

winter15-sumaIt’s summer, so get ready for some hot and steamy anime. There’s certainly plenty to go around for MetaFap (who knows, it might make a return), but it looks like we actually don’t get much in the way of pure romance. But hey, who needs romance when you can have boobies? Anyway, there are a handful of sequels to look forward to, such as Aquarion, DRRR, Working, TLR, IM@S, and even Dragon Ball Super, of all things! But as many continuations as we’re getting this summer, there is plenty more new material to work through. So sit back, turn on your AC, and enjoy some hot summer anime!
summer15-suma[ Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri ] Gate is about an otaku soldier who gets sent into a parallel world when a mysterious portal connecting the two worlds opens in Tokyo. At first glance, Gate appears to be a clone of Outbreak Company. Which, I might add, was a very entertaining show. But upon reading the synopsis more carefully, it seems that Gate might focus less on the otaku element and instead on more serious matters such as cultural exchange with the unknown and international power struggle over resources. If the show does try to take such an approach, it might turn out to be more meaningful than a regurgitation of something we’ve seen before.

————————————————————–
————————————————————–

[ Overlord ] Overlord is about a guy who gets trapped in a game and- wait, what? This is just SAO all over again! D-D-D-DROP DA BASSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! Okay, seriously though. Instead of becoming a dual wielding chick magnet, the protagonist here becomes a skeleton wizard, of all things. And instead of fighting comically evil assholes, he becomes an evil overlord, complete with eight faithful generals, bent on conquering the world of the game he is now trapped in. Now this is what I call making the best of the situation. If you can’t leave the game, might as well make it your own. Oh, and there’s also mention of NPCs gaining emotions in the synopsis. So perhaps the show might explore what it means to be human or something along those lines.
————————————————————–
————————————————————–

————————————————————–
————————————————————–

[ Gakkou Gurashi ] I’ve heard the stories about this one. Beneath the unassuming cute girls doing cute things cover lies a terrible beast. It crouches at the ready, patiently watching for the moment when you let down your guard; that moment when you let yourself truly believe that Gakkou Gurashi is really all about cute girls doing cute things. And then it pounces. It tears into you with fangs of sharpened steel and talons of adamantium. Right in the kokoro, of course. It always goes straight for the heart. Well, that’s just what I hear. Basically, don’t let yourself assume that this show is all hugs and kisses or flowers and sparkles. You might find yourself neck-deep in something entirely different if you do. The girls are still cute though.

winter15-skylionUggggh. Summer Heat! I hates it! Keep me indoors with the AC and the cool, cooler, coolest anime. So here we go…another season of hope and anticipation. I always like this four times per year event, as you only kinda know what you’re gonna get. That means everything has that  hidden potential to be pretty cool, or worth checking out, at least at the outset. Sure there are shows that you look forward to based on a long running, long loved manga. There are shows from particular studios you watch no matter what. Or there are genres that you have to indulge in. There are also shows that you wouldn’t grab the proverbial ten-foot pole for. But as always, I look forward to Etotama like surprises and Hibike! like triple expansion exceeded expectations. And it’s that hidden potential that makes the entry into a season so much to savor. So what am I looking forward to the most? I have just five choices here, but that is by no means the entire list. It’s a grab bag, so let’s get grabbing!.

summer15-skylion[ Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2wei herz! ] Ah yes, the LOLis are back! Yee-haw, let the kawaii overload begin!  Alright, calm down everyone. So, do you think that the regular stories of the Fate Universe are far too heavy, and have far to little Illya? Well step right this way. Actually, go back and watch the first two series first, they are a treat. If you’re a long-time fan of the franchise, then welcome back. This is the second part of the 2wei storyline, and event’s will pick up soon after the end of the last series. I’ve been following the manga, so I can tell you about a few tidbits to expect. Things will start off light and fluffy. Then they will be getting quite serious by the end of the show, even more so than the last one.; lots of the clues dropped in the first two outings will be explored much further as the whole franchise goes on. The Holy Grail War might never have been fought in this world, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some world-shaking magical repercussions and dramatic character revelations. The mysteries behind the class cards have just barely been touched… But before that, as I said, expect some of the program’s signature light comedy and drama, along with some LOLi shenanigans……Kuro still needs mana, after all! …and there is something about Miyu…

[ Classroom Crisis ] In the future, humanity has colonized all the planets of our solar system, with their eyes firmly set towards exploring the stars beyond. Our story is set in Fourth Tokyo of the Japanese Martian prefecture. Iris Shirasaki is a third year highschool student aiming to be a test pilot. She is joined by Mizuki Sera, her classmate and a mechanic and Mizuki’s brother Kaito is their homeroom teacher and the young director of the program developing their talents. So, all the planets of our solar system? Even Venus? That place can melt lead at it’s surface, has a crazy rotation to solar orbit thing going for and it, and in a fast car you could race that rotation and beat it, assuming your ride isn’t goo before the speed trials start. Good thing the show is on Mars, I guess, it’s much more hospitable….But given that the show has the school life and slice of life tags and little else, something tells me the science fiction will be kept low key….

This is the first full length program from Lay-Duce, but it features many of the same storytellers and designers behind Eureka 7 AO and Oreimo. With that in mind, I’m very curious as it seems that a new studio would do a great deal to grab your attention; and are grabbing some vets to fit that bill. This is an original story, so no parsing out manga chapters or spoiling the adaptation. There is great benefit to that sometimes, but that also makes it hard to grab an audience right off the bat. But I love little engines like these, so I’m very interested in seeing if it can…

[ Chaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Sen’eki ] In a world torn by constant warfare, two nations vie for utter supremacy. Caught in the middle is the island nation of Ni Kamui, which just lost its independence. What will happen when Ni Kamui’s guardian god, The Red Dragon God, goes out of control? Will it save the the small nation? Or will it lead to more destruction? Chaos Dragon is based on the table-top role-playing game, Red Dragon, and is a collaborative fiction project overseen by five notable character designers: Gen Urobochi (Fate/Zero, and Madoka), Kinoko Nasu (Kara no Kyoukai and the whole Nasuverse), Iduki Kougyoku (Mimizuku to Yoru no Ou), Ryohgo Narita (Durarara!!), and Simadoriru (member of the Stripe Pattern doujin circle). The result is their game sessions over six days worth of created/gamed material that make for a seven-volume light novel series. I mean this is like me sitting down and playing a fantasy game with Joss Whedon, Jim Butcher, Neil Gaiman and other cool cats, and then we make a TV show and a bunch of books based on the awesome that comes out… Show ▼

spring15-irenesSummer, my favorite time of year. It’s finally warm, there are all these wonderful things to do and see, awesome movie blockbusters are coming out, and also it has June, which is the most wonderful month of the year, being right in the middle. However, for anime, the summer hasn’t had the greatest track record. Spring and Fall being the traditionally better seasons, while Winter and Summer get what’s left. But there has been a bit of an upset lately, with some pretty great shows coming out over the summer in the last couple of years. Just last summer, we had Free! Eternal Summer, Zankyou no Terror, and Aldnoah.Z…….Argevollen. Let’s hope that after a pretty good spring, this summer is even better.

summer15-irene[ Akagami no Shirayuki-hime ] Ah, another fairytale retelling, with just the right amount of twist to give it life. I’ve always had a love for fantasy, fairy tales, and romance, and this caught my eye right away. The idea of the prince being the one to get poisoned by the apple isn’t one I’ve seen before, but that and the fact that we’ll get to see a friendship flourish into a romance between our prince and eventual princess, is enough for me to give this series a watch. Also there’s the fact that our red-haired Snow White this time around looks and seems like another princess heroine from a season or so ago, though it remains to be seen if Shirayuki will challenge Yona for her crown of best red-haired princess. There is the fact that the story of Snow White has been done, twisted, and revamped by anime before, one of them being a personal favorite of mine in Shin Shirayuki-hime Densetsu Pretear. However, with Snow White, who is a doctor this time, being on the run from another prince (one voiced by Jun Fukuyama no less), and then meeting another and becoming his court physician sounds like adventure all around.

[ Aoharu x Kikanjuu ] There really wasn’t much I could find on this series other than that it’s about war survival games and a trapess female. So, I had to break my own rule and take a look at a chapter of the original material. And let me just say: Think Ouran High School Host Club meets war games. Our main character Haruhi Hotaru is one of the strongest shonen-esque tomboys you will meet. She runs into her new neighbor, Tamaki Masamune, who through some maneuvering and outright coercion, forces Hotaru to join his survival games group. However, little does he know, that the new guy on the block that he’s invited into his ranks (which is male only btw) is no “guy” at all. I had to force myself to stop reading, the character interactions are what make this series. I’m very interested in seeing what an anime adaptation of this will be like

[ Rokka no Yuusha ] The animation for this series is already amazing, this will be the first series I will be watching from studio Passione, but just from the PV sampling, I’m liking what I see. The plot sounds simple, but it’s a plot that I love. The big bad is about to awaken and several chosen ones are given the task of stopping him. However, problems erupt when there are one too many chosen ones about. This series looks to to be epic and engaging, and I’m excited to see where this might lead.

[ God Eater ] Well, another season with another video game adaptation. They don’t have the greatest track record, seen as recently as this past Spring’s Gunslinger Stratos ( the less said on that, the better). However, there have been exceptions and I’ll give a series a chance if the plot and characters show promise. The plot is interesting if not the most original thing in the world. Monsters have destroyed the world, special team with awesome weapons formed to destroy them, new guy with new weapon shows up who may be able to change the tide of the war. Pretty simple. Yet, the less traditional animation style is also a different experience as well, looking more like animated paintings than animation. I can dig that. If anything, it could be a very interesting experiment.

[ Gangsta ] Well, I certainly never thought I’d see an anime series called “Gangsta”, it’s such a Western term, that I guess it never really occurred to me. However, the world they show here, while a little nicer than the gang world of my own fair city, still shows a world of grit and danger than I find intriguing. It really seems more Mafia “gangster”in tone than what I would think of as “gangsta” or gang culture, but that’s fine by me, since I find Mafia tales and the worlds they build around them to be way more interesting and complex. Our two main characters, Nic and Worick (voiced by Kenjirou Tsuda and Junichi Sawabe respectively) seem to be interesting as the Handymen. They’re characters we’ve seen before, but I want to see what they do in this world and with this plot. Studio Manglobe has been doing some pretty good work these last few years, and from the PV,  they look like they are continuing that trend here.

spring15-samsSummertime is my favorite time of year. The weather is always great, the things I do are always fun, and the anime range from decent to great. I will honestly say that I’m not that hyped for this season as a whole, but I’m confident there are a few shows this season that will satisfy me. Plus, this will be the first time I cover a season from the start so that is a pleasure in it of itself.
summer15-sams[ Gatchaman Crowds insight ] The first Gatchaman Crowds is a weird show.  I don’t agree at all with the worldview of Hajime, but I did find it interesting.  I might not have loved the themes of complete access of information, but it is fun to think about and talk about. I don’t really know what to expect from this upcoming season, but whatever I do expect I’m sure will be turned upside down.

[ Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace ] I am interested in this show because of how it is clearly being influenced by the works of Edogawa Rampo (the guy in the title).  His pen name is like that because that’s more or less how you say Edgar Allen Poe in Japanese.  Edogawa was an extremely prolific writer, single handedly shaping how mystery novels were written in Japan and important in molding the famous theme of the Phantom Thief character type into existence.  On a slightly related note, a bit of Edogawa’s work has been put into manga form, feel free to check out the Strange Tale of Panorama Island if you have the guts for it.

[ Rokka no Yuusha ] I’ll fully admit that I am looking forward to this show on the strength of the source material.  It falls into that small category of Light Novels that aren’t trash and are worth recommending to people who might not even be total Otaku.  What you have here is a series that is just about as much a mystery series as it is a adventure.  It’s all about those critical thinking skills man!

[ Gangsta ] Did you know that growing up in the Favilla can be rough?  What we have here is something that is 70% Dogs: Bullet and Carnage and 30% Michiko to Hatchin.  To me that is 500% awesome.  I’ve checked out the source material and all I can say is that we are looking at a quality show.

  1. JPNIgor says:

I’m picking up waaay too many things again, though I’m hoping to narrow it down at some point. I’m going to try at least the first episode of most things except the most dumb ones (Makura Danshi…) But the top five I’m most excited about would be these ones:

Charlotte: I just can’t stay away from P.A. Works stuff, there is just too much eye-candy to miss for no good reason. And while the last ones they did (Nagi no Asukara/Glasslips) had some minor fantasy stuff, Charlotte seems to be willing to focus more on the superpower than using them as tools to get the plot and relationships going.

Durarara!!x2 Ten: Well, it’s Durarara. You don’t really have to say anything, right? And Varona (Vorona?) seems to be coming back for more.

Gatchaman Crowds Insight: I really didn’t expect that this would have a sequel after the not so good reception it had. I particularly loved it, with it’s characters and colorful environment and the its concepts that seems to be from the near future. I mean, Waze is very similar to the system created in the first season. Glad they are coming back for more.

Jitsu wa Watashi wa: What caught my eyes here was the character design. Look at their eyes and tell me there isn’t a psycho in each of those people. And that’s not a bad thing at all.

Working!!! OHMYGOD, I really didn’t expect that Working was getting a third season. I loved rushing this series as it aired before I really got into anime, so watching this season upon release will be a treat.

Other stuff I’m excited about: Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (Akatsuki no Yona 2?); Aoharu x Kikanjuu (inverted trap sabage, wtf); Classroom Crisis (OreImo character design ^w^); Gakkou Gurashi (slice of zombie apocalypse life is gonna be great); Gangsta; Joukamachi no Dandelion; Makura no Danshi (kyaaaaa); Non Non Biyori (Renge-chan!!! \o/); Rokka no Yuusha (seems badass, really); Sore ga Seiyuu!; God Eater (the characters seem great but the CG is atrocious imo)

    • BlackBriar says:

Hahaha!! I don’t mean to nitpick but shouldn’t you save all this talk for later? You’ll burn yourself out before the Summer Anime Catalogue arrives. Which I feel is very soon.

      • JPNIgor says:

They said it’s not coming, though…

Things happened and we will not be releasing our usual seasonal preview this anime season. Gomeennn!

So, yeah… Unless preview and catalogue aren’t the same thing.

    • Foshizzel says:

Personally I had a ton of issues with the first season mostly because the characters were terrible! Well only Hajime who I hated with a burning passion, but ill watch season two just to see if they change that and make he less ULTRA OMEGA HYPER MODE all the time.

      • JPNIgor says:

Yeah, at first I thought that Hajime was a little annoying but later she grew into me. Her upbeat personality and nonsensical optimism was a great change of pace to me.

And I really doubt they are turning off the ULTRA MEGA HYPER MODE all the time switch. Did you watch Episode 0? To me, that’s pretty hyper for an episode 0.

        • Foshizzel says:

I saw episode 0, but it was more of a hey we got two new Gatchaman characters to show off and did Rui transform into a Gatchaman in the first season? I don’t even remember…anyway it was cool…I guess…

          • JPNIgor says:

I’m not really sure myself, but I guess he did. They wouldn’t just introduce Rui’s Gatchaman powers out of the blue, right? Though if he did, I don’t remember him having these “X” stuff and teleport powers.

  2. zztop says:

So why am I excited for a [Gatchaman Crowds] second season when I feel that season 1 had a lacklustre ending?

The full, proper ending can be found on the director’s cut of episode 12, included with the Japanese Bluray box release. The cut episode, “Embrace”, adds new footage to episode 12 including the final Hajime vs. Berg Katze showdown and what happened to everyone else.

Unfortunately, the US licensors were unable to get the rights to the director’s cut. So you need to either download the episode online or watch it on alternative streaming sites.

All I need is Illya Show ▼

    Show ▼

And Overlord? It is Good to be BAD.

    • JPNIgor says:

I never thought I would also be excited for Heaven’s Feel… That’s what FSN makes you. And ufotable helped quite a lot.

I’m also trying to catch up with Fate/Zero btw. Not going to watch the first season by Deen, though.

      • akagami says:

I think I am one of the five people that liked the first season (Deen) and didn’t like Fate/Zero (dropped it halfway). =D

        • Kyokai says:

What is this blasphemyyyy! I liked UBW but still as a series Fate/Zero is still the best of Fate.

          • akagami says:

Too much action and not enough tsundere Rin. And didn’t like the Fate/Zero version of Saber (or rather, it didn’t get to explore her character as much as in other versions/routes).

I’m not really big on action alone, I can only take so much before I start to really crave slice-of-life or romance to bring back my inner peace.

            • BlackBriar says:

I’m not really big on action alone, I can only take so much before I start to really crave slice-of-life or romance to bring back my inner peace.

Ooh, I see we’re complete opposites here in that regard. Slice of life and romance are genres that are at the bottom of the barrel for me. The action is good as long as it’s meaningful for the story.

            • Kyokai says:

So, did you like UBW as there is a lot of tsundere Rin to go around.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

BB actually likes Slice of Life. Provided the slices are finely done with a Stihl or Husqvarna chainsaw. *vroom* *vroom* Also romance too. Provided there is unfnough action. 😛

For Tsundere Rin, watch more Carnival Phantasm or Prisma Illya. Fandom has overdone her tsuntsun. Watching UBW, I’m more inclined to believe that’s how she actually is.

UBW’s mistake was to split the seasons. It make dividing the material awkward.

            • akagami says:

              I did indeed!

Although I could have used less Archer sermonizing. As jason (blog好き) stated “I also understand that if I didn’t understand all of that, Archer would happily spend another three episodes explaining it me.”

        • BlackBriar says:

Such blasphemous words! Are you trying to get butchered alive by every available hardcore Type-Moon fan?

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

          Blasphemy! Zasshu!

          *Readies Gate of Babylon*

        • JPNIgor says:

The art is way too messy with Deen’s version, I remember trying to watch the first season and being completely confused. ufotable made it a lot more accessible to new fans.

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

From what I know, Deen was doing a bastardization of all 3 routes but primarily concentrating on the Fate route.

            • akagami says:

Yeah, it’s mostly the fate route, but they slipped in different bits from the other routes, if I recall correctly. So it’s not 100% true to the source material.

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

The one scene that was GARsome though was GARcher vs Berserker. IIRC, it was so GAR that the Overedge versions live in other works.

  4. zztop says:

Definitely watching Gatchaman Crowds season 2, would like to see where the writers take the story this time.

I’m surprised no one’s talking about Ushio and Tora. Older anime/manga fans are excited an old series is getting animated, like Parasyte.
But unlike Parasyte, the anime is following the original manga art (which some have described as crude and somewhat ugly).

    • JPNIgor says:

Watching the PV, I can definitely say that I don’t like the character design. The tiger actually looks cool but the human characters weird me out, mostly because I don’t like these macho-like characters. Oh, but I did enjoy seeing the MC with long, looong hair. I’m going to watch only to see if the story piques my interest. If it’s pure action, probably going to drop it.

Parasyte had its setting updated to fit with this decade and the story is a lot more deep than whatever I can imagine with Ushio to Tora, so I’m not really sure they can be compared.

      • zztop says:

The scariest bit, the mangaka’s artstyle still hasn’t evolved much from back then. Even his recent manga still look like 90’s relics.

        • BlackBriar says:

Is that really a bad thing? Look at the character designs for Nazo no Kanojo X.

          • JPNIgor says:

Don’t like it either. Didn’t watch it too… Yeah, I know it’s kinda like judging a book by it’s cover, but I like good looking characters unless the story demands ugly characters to work.

            • BlackBriar says:

Hahaha, so you’re mostly in it for eye candy…

            • JPNIgor says:

              That’s why I love P.A. Works =w=

      • skylion says:

That design really caught my attention. The story itself looks pretty “tried and true”, but I’m wanting to give MAPPA the benefit of the doubt…

    • BlackBriar says:

I saw Parasyte and looking back, it wasn’t all that impressive, to be honest. A number of things about it I either felt was lacking or I just couldn’t bring myself to care about. Certain aspects that could’ve brought impact didn’t.

  5. JPNIgor says:

    @Karakuri

Did you say God Eater wouldn’t use CGs? Because I’m pretty sure they use CGs on the PV I saw, unless it’s not from the anime, or that’s some hand drawing made by a god.

    @Hoshi

Love Lab? This season? Or are you just gearing up for it popping up in the future?

    @highway

I’m so, so worried about Jun Maeda taking part in this. It’s like he has the special trait “Tragedy Touch”, where everything he touches suddenly becomes tragic.

Also, there’s so many things that screams “IT’S WRONG” with Kangoku Gakuen that I’m afraid of diving into it.

    @sumairii

I know for a fact that the writer for Gate uses his acquired knowledge while in the military to write a lot of interesting tidbits. It might be interesting.

And I was excited for Gakkou Gurashi, but oh, there’s that Horror tag everywhere I see. I’m pretty sure I’m going into something I don’t want… And I’m probably going to enjoy it anyway.

@skylion, I can’t watch fate/kaleid without remembering that Illya died a horrible death in UBW, what should I do???

@Irenesharda, is it only me who screamed “Ao Haru Ride” as soon as Aoharu x kikanjuu was announced? Yeah, I know, I was really wrong but… Oh, well.

    • Hoshi says:

~Lol looks like there was a mix-up (Though I wouldn’t mind more Love Lab in the future…)

      • akagami says:

I second that! I wonder if my student council was like that. Every time I went to visit, we just lounged about on the couches.

    • IreneSharda says:

There’s actually a little bit of a mix-up on some of my comments, I’m trying to get those fixed though. 😀

Aoharu x Kikanjuu, it really feels like OHSHC meets survival games. They even make a joke about it early on in the manga. I’m pretty excited to see what they do with it.

    • Highway says:

I’ll be straightforward, the only thing I’ve watched that Jun Maeda has had a hand in so far is Little Busters! (and only the first series). I’m a lot more on board for PA Works. I have avoided watching Clannad and Angel Beats and the other famous Key shows, just because of their reputation. So we’ll see how this ends up.

      • JPNIgor says:

Did you ever listen to Jun Maeda x Nagi Yanagi collab work as Flaming June? Look at those lyrics, it’s too much sorrow for a whole album.

    • skylion says:

UBW went away, so I ignore it. I pick my dominate paradigm!

    • Karakuri says:

Ah!! The source I read it from mysteriously disappeared. Ugh, I knew it was too good to be true, but we’ll see I guess. OTL A hand drawing made by god would be pretty cool though.

  6. BlackBriar says:

The sun is blazing hotter than ever. Yep, it’s definitely the sign that Summer has arrived. Argh! The light is too bright! Need to stay indoors with the nice cooling shade.

Aside from obviously anticipating more epic Durarara!!x2 goodness, the line-up for the Summer season seems pretty so-so, passable, if you will, from my point of view. Sure, there are some interesting enough titles among the list but none in particular that would incite me to the point of saying that I’m hyped for any of them. So basically, they appear fairly sufficient to tide me over until Fall 2015 which is beginning to come along nicely. Let’s see where to go from here.

    High:
    Durarara!!x2 Ten
    Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 2wei Herz!
    Gangsta
    Gatchaman Crowds Insight
    God Eater
    Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace
    Rokka no Yuusha

    Moderate:
    Aoharu x Kikanjuu
    Chaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Sen’eki
    Charlotte
    Classroom☆Crisis
Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri
    Jitsu wa Watashi wa
    Kuusen Madoushi Kouhosei no Kyoukan
    Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou
    Overlord
    Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX
    To LOVE-Ru Darkness 2nd
    Ushio to Tora

    Low (Potential Drop):
    Gakkou Gurashi!
    Prison School
Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai

So after some diligent screening, my top 5 Summer’15 series would be:

Durarara!!x2 Ten: Because it’s Durarara!! and it’s awesome. Pretty simple, really. The prior cour did fairly well and ended on a cliffhanger that left me pleasantly surprised with Izaya, the shameless, sneaky weasel, actually getting bested by someone else. More Celty is a plus, mind you and looking at some stills, it’s safe to say Mikado will be going through a possibly drastic change.

Gangsta: I’m inclined for something nice and gritty and Gangsta seems capable of providing just that. The last anime I recall giving me similar vibes would be Jormungand and that was a series I really enjoyed.

Gatchaman Crowds Insight: Last season was an unexpectedly fun wild ride with colorful characters much pinpointed accuracy on the relevancy of the internet generation and what it’s capable of. Suffice to say it intrigues me on where the story intends to take us now.

Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace: Murder mystery anime with unexpected twists centered in a place with an ominous aura frequented by shady, untrustworthy characters? Sign me up immediately! Not to mention dark toned series are completely within my strike zone. Without a doubt one of my preferences so this one has my full attention.

Rokka no Yuusha: Looks like a good Action, Adventure, Fantasy series I can get behind and the notion that an enemy is hiding amongst the group instilling distrust makes for a good guessing game. That and the animation looks nice to watch.

    • IreneSharda says:

I’m interested in Gatchaman and Ranpo as well, even though they’re not in my top 5. I love murder mysteries, it’ll be interesting to see how they handle this, especially with a could of middle schoolers.

And while I can’t stand the main character of Gatchaman and I felt that the first season had a few missed opportunities, I’ll still be watching the next one since I’m interested in what happens next.

    • JPNIgor says:

The stuff that is coming back in Fall is just too good to be true! I mean, there’s Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka?, Haikyuu, K, Noragami and Owari no Seraph!!!! I’M SO HYPED UP FOR NORAGAMI AND HAIKYUU I could cry seeing them in this list.

      • BlackBriar says:

Seeing the Fall list is just making me wish for this season to pass incredibly fast. Spring hardly felt like a season because it went by so quickly.

        • skylion says:

…careful now…that Fall season you’re looking forward to will got by to quick as well.

          • BlackBriar says:

Please don’t remind me. Especially when it has a handful of series I’m looking forward to.

            • skylion says:

…you advised patience in my anticipation for Prisma Illya, I’m just returning the favor…

    • akagami says:

I’m surprised that you ranked Gakkou Gurashi! so low. Aren’t vampires just smarter versions of zombies? =P *hides*

Although they do share many similarities.

      • IreneSharda says:

Ughhh! Zombies and vampires are not the same.

I can’t stomach Warm Bodies or the Walking Dead, but I’ll watch Dracula or Trinity Blood over and over again. Vampires are sooo in another class than the common zombie. 😉

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

          Underworld!

        • akagami says:

          How about moe zombies?

          • Kyon says:

            Curse you! *takes out wallet*

          • IreneSharda says:

They are cute, but still no. It’s something about zombies being walking corpses and eating human flesh that creeps me out. So no, no matter how cute they may be, nope. Still no zombies.

          • BlackBriar says:

The balance is off. They’re more moe than zombie.

        • BlackBriar says:

I’d watch Trinity Blood or Shiki more times than I would High School of the Dead. The contrast between them is great.

          • Foshizzel says:

HoTD sucks for zombies its just ecchi for the sake of ecchi and doesn’t really feel like a zombie story outside the first time the main characters escape the school.

            • skylion says:

…ecchi for the sake of awesome! And holy crap the sniper kill shots after they escape the school, rescuing the LOLi~

      • BlackBriar says:

I took a look at the PV and all I saw were cute girls doing cute things which doesn’t grab my attention in the slightest. So consider me not impressed. I’d have to see the series personally before giving a second opinion.

Nope, not even close. They’re nothing alike and I don’t see similarities between them. Zombies are mindless; rotting corpses that eat human flesh (I’m not sure they even need it). Vampires are able-minded, immortal creatures that live off human blood. Vampires are charismatic and possess an allure that’s strong enough to drive humans against their better judgment whereas zombies aren’t alluring at all and the human would pick up the nearest shotgun and double tab them without a second thought. I never get tired of watching a vampire biting into a human.

To bring up a favorite quote of mine from Black Blood Brothers (English Dub):

“I know. Humans are attracted to us vampires. I feel it in the way you stare. Hmph, it’s written all over your face”
        Zelman Clock

        • Foshizzel says:

I have news for you BB Gakkou Gurashi is far from a typical moe-fest trust me if you are a fan of horror you will totally be on board, but I guess if they replaced zombies with vampires you would love it? Anyway as a manga reader I can’t say much because there are some great moments later on and as me and Skylion have said Gakkou Gurashi tends to focus on the physiological side of things.

          • Di Gi Kazune says:

            Vampires >>>>>> Zombies!

            Succubi/Incubi = Vampires.

          • IreneSharda says:

I tried to read the manga, but the main character annoyed me to no end. I could never understand the average anime Japanese high school character’s love of high school, and to see one SO in love with school that she just lives there was just too much. She’s one of those people who are just so upbeat and happy that they end up coming off as annoying. Close to Hajime levels, but not quite.

            • Sumairii says:

I haven’t actually read the manga so I could be wrong, but I believe that character’s extreme love of the school life is supposed to reflect on her broken and unstable personality in the wake of the zombie apocalypse. She has to fool herself into thinking that school is still a happy place so as to not go crazy.

Manga readers, please correct me if I’m wrong.

            • skylion says:

I won’t correct you, as you are totally right. This is prime “school life” trope subversion. Unless they really dump it the first outing, I encourage everyone to give this one the three-episode rule…

          • BlackBriar says:

I’ll go by your words and check the series out but I don’t have any expectations for it so I may feel indifferent even after watching the first episode.

but I guess if they replaced zombies with vampires you would love it?

Come on, Fosh. You should know me by now. If that ever happened, the odds of me loving it would definitely skyrocket. 😛

Zombies are low on my “monsters” list since, to me, they’re very base creatures that don’t do much of anything particular I find fascinating or to have me talking about them but I still would watch shows surrounding that species out of minor interest.

1st place on the list goes to vampires (obviously) and 2nd place goes to Ghouls (they won a place in my heart after watching Tokyo Ghoul).

            • skylion says:

As I said in the review for the manga that this series is based one, I am very tired of the Zed monsters myself. This story managed to get back to the creepy, and live up to my number one rule of these types of stories, that the survivors are everything.

            • skylion says:

Yeah, the PV is all cute and everything, but I’m anticipating them animating this scene….

            • Foshizzel says:

Zombies, vampires, aliens, Titans and any [insert monster here] story tends to break down to the same basic of man vs something that is threatening humanity which pushes the humans to fight back and save their world! At least that is how I see it so I don’t really have a “ranking” from worst to best monster.

            • BlackBriar says:

@Fosh: Hahahaha!! That’s one way of looking at something. Except vampires support a scenario where a human would turn against other humans to be with them. That’s the difference. As if it would work with any other monster. I can somewhat see it working with Ghouls, though.

            • Foshizzel says:

Well ill give you that on vampires being smart, but don’t those story’s typically become them wanting to rule the world for the most part and they gotta feed on humans of course! Unless you go Shiki route having the vampires wanting to hide.

  7. Kyokai says:

I take full responsibility for any comment mix-up. It was after midnight. 😛

    • BlackBriar says:

Hey, Kyokai, I’ve been meaning to ask something. Since I lost my “Meta Team” status after reaching 10000 comments, is it a problem if I ask for my status to say “POWUH: Meta Master and Vampire Lover”?

      • Kyokai says:

There should be no Meta Master but I’ll see what I can do about 10k+ Meta power. Your custom title is already Vampire Lover. You can’t have 2 custom titles.

  8. IreneSharda says:

Urgent News: Kekkai Sensen’s Finale has Been Delayed Until Further Notice!

What shall I do?! They can’t leave me like this! Not after that cliffhanger. How far into the Summer season will we have to wait?!!

However, I am glad that they decided not to rush and squish it into 30 min, but are actually just going to make the finale longer. 🙂

    • Kyokai says:

      Noooooooo! This is horrendous!

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Someone must have invoked Nice Boat(tm).

    • Samsura says:

You think you got it bad? I have to wait to write about it!

      • BlackBriar says:

Even worse, it’s your first series as a writer. So you’re stuck in limbo and robbed of completing your first series until further notice. Yikes!

    • Foshizzel says:

I hope it is worth the wait! Hell I remember all that mess with Gatchaman’s finale cause it was rushed so at least the last episode should be great right?! I guess that is the bright side.

    • JPNIgor says:

Somehow, I’m happy because it’s going to take more than 30 minutes… That means more Kekkai Sensen than expected, whenever it is that it comes…

Be it two weeks from now… or two months… or two years… Yeah, it still hurts.

    • BlackBriar says:

This has the signs of a last minute decision. I hope they know what they’re doing.

  9. akagami says:

I didn’t see the Metanorn Anime Preview, so here I was thinking I still had another week or two… and then I checked the calendar, and the new season starts in 2 days!!!?!! >.<

Btw, where are you guys getting all this hot sun? Where I am it's cold and rainy. I need my hot summer sun! Send it my way!!!

From the spring season, 23 shows with 5 dropped. I dropped 4 the season prior. I need to tighten up my selection criteria… will I be able to make it to none dropped? Hm hm. Probably not, as this season appears to have many questionables. Interesting enough to warrant a peek, but with a high potential of pulling a Greece.

    Super Saiyan God
    ————————————————–

GANGSTA. – This has Black Lagoon written all over it. Like if you gave a 2 year old a set of crayons and walked away. This should scratch my limited action itch quite well.
Danchigai – Five minute slice-of-life goodness, it’s hard to go wrong with slice-of-life anything.
Wakaba Girl – More short slice-of-life goodness!!! Plus it has a stacked staff.
Joukamachi no Dandelion – Slice-of-life + comedy! You know, I’ve always wondered what it would feel like to have a huge family of brothers and sisters running around. I imagine this will answer all my questions I ever had. It’ll be like a documentary *pulls out notebook and pencil*…
Classroom Crisis Cute designs, with comedy and romance mixed in with school-life on Mars? Oh yes. Oh very yes.
Charlotte P.A. WORKS!!! Oh how I’ve missed you. Plus Maeda Jun is behind it… I’m ready for the feels!
WORKING!!! OMG YES! Working! was pure fun and awesomeness in both seasons, and eagerly looking for to more restaurant antics.
Rokka no Yuusha – A fan of anything fantasy, and I like the twist of the traitor hidden in the bunch of summoned heroes. I do wonder if they’re going to make it a mystery (guess who it is) or go more of a adventure type show with the traitor element just hiding around the corner. Either way, interested!
To LOVE-Ru – Trouble Darkness 2nd – Loved To LOVE-Ru, so I’ll continue watching this. I’m in here for the plot. No seriously… sort of. It’s amusing ^^
Akagami no Shirayukihime – I am very, very conflicted. This manga is what gave rise to my name, and I love the series very much so. However I’m not big on how they adapted the characters, as Shirayuki’s hair looks so lifeless and bleh. But my overwhelming love for this series will overwrite that (now) minor quibble.
Overlord – I’ve noticed recently that there have been a slew of game mmorpgs mangas where people get stuck in the game world. And I’ve also noticed that I’ve picked up every single one of them and found them all interesting. Overlord is something I picked up recently, except with a twist that the MC played an evil character and somehow remained in the game. Although I use evil in the lightest sense, because this guy is not your typical evil bastard scumbag. He’s evil, but in a good way… one of those likeable villians. I’m in!
Kuusen Madoushi Kouhosei no Kyoukan – I’ve always enjoyed good magical fantasy harem shows, for some reason (World Break, Testament, HS DxD, Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou, Hagure Yuusha no Aesthetica, etc.). I’m sure I’ll enjoy this show as well, even if it doesn’t turn out to be amazing.
Gakkou Gurashi! Moe with zombies! Definitely interested (moe overwrites my dislike of zombies. If HSotD had moe, I might have watched it or continued to read the manga), although I hope it doesn’t go off into the horror deep-end. I have a weak stomach >. scare.
THE IDOLM@STER: Cinderella Girls 2 – More idol goodness. IdolM@ster started my addiction to idols, and I haven’t looked back. At least the anime version, I haven’t any interest in AKB48.

Maybe the stars and moon will align
    ————————————————–

Okusama ga Seito Kaichou! – Normally this would hit my “for sure” watch list, as it hits three of my favorite targets (Comedy, Romance, School), however the premise sounds very familiar (as in, I think I’ve read something similar and disliked it). But don’t think I’ve read this, and it’s only 10 minute bite sized portions, so I’m willing to see where it takes me.
Chaos Dragon: Sekiryuu Sen’eku – I’m a strong supporter of original series. It’s also fantasy, and it has that neat-looking squirrel beaver guy. Downside – it has CGI. Ughh… I’m hoping it’s not too bad that I can overlook it. Like Z/X Ignition, which I went in with huge doubts and instead really enjoyed it.
Aquarion Logos – I loved the previous seasons of Aquarion, so definitely checking it out. However the character designs are bad no horrible, and the MC’s mop with side streamers??? Good lord no, please go find a proper barber. And AKINO isn’t doing either the OP/ED. So that makes it a maybe unfortunately. If it wasn’t for the Aquarion name, I would have ranked it at the one-episode test.
Shimoneta to Iu Gainen ga Sonzai Shinai Taikutsu na Sekai This strongly reminds me Seitokai Yakuindomo (which was fun to watch in short batches, def no marathoning this). Here’s hoping it keeps it funny and interesting without getting too graphic!
Durarara!!x2 Ten – A little less enthused than I was for S2. S2 didn’t meet my high expectations, but it was interesting enough that I’m inclined to watch another season. Just not inclined enough to make it a must-watch-now.
Dragon Ball Super – I’ve never watched any of the anime, nor any of the recent movies. However I’m somewhat interested in seeing how the new season is, as I did enjoy the manga (original and DBZ). Plus it’s canon (I skipped GT).
God Eater – It has ufotable, so at least I know it’ll have nice production values. I don’t know anything about the game (don’t play fighters), although I have seen character artwork floating around that I can visually recognize some of the characters. Worth checking out, here’s hoping it doesn’t overload my action limit! GANGTSA. has it well covered.

    Three ‘psode test
    ————————————————–

Aoharu x Kikanjuu – I don’t get the name at all. It’s definitely not a cross-over. Trap with male harm, survival game time? Worth a shot. However I noticed that the male harem all have the same hairstyle, just with different colors. Come on, if you’re going to make a harem, wouldn’t it kill you to make *some* effort to make them look different?
Ushio to Tora – This might have ranked higher if it wasn’t for the old-school art-style (a turn-off). The whole spirit residing in the weapon reminds me a lot of Ga-Rei: Zero, so maybe this has some hopes (a big stretch, I know). It might surprise, but the designs, MC hair, and the main youkai don’t really tickle my interest that much.
GATE: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakeri – I’ll probably check this out, just to see how this gets adapted. I started off initially interested in the manga, but the amount of action, blood, and little else eventually made me drop it. I’m sure there was more to it, but too much action and blood numbed my senses.
Sore ga Seiyuu! – All of the shows about manga or anime production have failed to keep my interest. I tried really hard to like Shirobako, but in the end I couldn’t keep it up. However this is written by Hata Kenjiro (Hayate no Gotoku, which is awesome), so I’m willing to give this genre another whirl.

Gakkou Gurashi! – Moe with zombies! Definitely interested, although I hope it doesn’t go off into the horror deep-end. I have a weak stomach ヽ(゚Д゚)ノ Apparently the manga is adventure goodness with tears. Lots of tears. I like feels. Feels over scare.

      • Foshizzel says:

As a manga reader Gakkou Gurashi doesn’t have a lot of freaky horror moments, but of course everyone takes things differently and anime “horror” never really scares me…

        • BlackBriar says:

That just makes me even more skeptical after seeing the PV which showed the complete opposite of what’s supposed to be horror. In the end, it instills reluctance instead.

    • Foshizzel says:

Sad but true on AKINO not working on any OP/ED stuff! Also I’m like you on not really liking the character designs; however I like that each season has a different look to them even the Aquarion unit looks different which is fine since were dealing with the future.

To LOVE-Ru – Trouble Darkness 2nd – Loved To LOVE-Ru, so I’ll continue watching this. I’m in here for the plot. No seriously… sort of. It’s amusing ^^

musume monster – lamia girl, harpy girl , horse girl, slime girl, mermaid girl, spider girl, etc one guy (the other 2nd coming of rosario vampire)

Oh yes that one is fun! I took a peek at the manga and found myself laughing my ass off so I can’t wait for that one.

    • BlackBriar says:

      horse girl

That species is called a Centaur.

      spider girl

That one is called an Arachne.

Monster Musume is basically giving the spotlight to the less famous monster girls that have been overshadowed by the staple ones.

        Uh-oh. Black Widow.

      • Foshizzel says:

My favorites are easily the harpy, snake and Slime girl! I don’t know about the spider all that much but I do know there is a manga shot of the MC saying he loves her legs? Yeah I guess it works lolol

  12. Namika says:

Last season was so uninteresting for me that I was almost afraid to look at the Summer lineup, I swear 😀 At this point, I’m genuinely interested in God Eater and, of course, Junjou. I’m not sure if I’m getting progressively more picky with what I watch, or the general content is steadily degrading into mostly shallow-looking slice-of-life moe mass. Hopefully this season will be more interesting 😀 Though with Kuroko no Basket ending I’ve got only Arslan to watch at this point 😀 Maybe I should break out my “black days” list and watch Fate series or Baccano this summer :’D

    • Sumairii says:

I’m not sure if I’m getting progressively more picky with what I watch, or the general content is steadily degrading into mostly shallow-looking slice-of-life moe mass.

Not to generalize, but I think the way it generally happens with people is that they start seeing things as less original and interesting with more exposure. The contents of anime probably aren’t changing very much on average between seasons; it’s just your perception. Which is a perfectly natural psychological reaction. Again, I think this happens to everyone and applies to exposure to anything.

      • skylion says:

…and the trick to bypassing that is to look at the medium as a medium, not just shows that suit a genre. It’s a wide open space, give yourself some credit for finding something out of your “zone”. Ten years ago I would have and probably did kick a bunch of stuff to the curb. Tastes can change.

        • Namika says:

They do, but in my case its getting quite unsettling xD because I can’t enjoy most of what I try. :C guess I gotta try even more stuff then xD

Anime news: God Eater Anime’s 1st Episode Delayed, Replaced with Special

    • Foshizzel says:

Yep saw that I wonder what it means! Then again i’ve always expected low quality first episodes from every series because they are usually ripped from online streams bumping things to 480p

  14. belatkuro says:

    copypasta from RC

It’s that time again. As usual, will pick about more than half of the upcoming shows regardless of genre and just see what happens. Though looking at the list, there seems to be quite a lot of shows coming out. Summer is usually a bit lower than this regardless of quality. Ah well.

    My picks:
    >God Eater
    >TLRD 2 – I watch it for the PLOT
    >Akagami no Shirayukihime
    >Jitsu wa Watashi wa
    >NNB Repeat
    >Overlord – planned to read this last month but CCC got in the way
    >MonMusu – read about 8 chapters but stopped somehow. May continue before the anime starts.
    >Okusama ga Seito Kaichou
    >Kuusen Madoushi – obligatory LN magical-fantasy-action-harem anime with Matsuoka. Don’t think I’ll get tired of it actually.
    >GANGSTA
    >Gakkou Gurashi
    >Chaos Dragon
    >Aquarion Logos – more mecha porn
    >Ranpo Kitan
    >Aoharu x Kikanjuu
    >Joukamachi no Dandelion
    >Ushio to Tora
    >Im@s CG 2 – still stalled on the last episode somehow
    >GATE – may try the LN or manga, whichever comes first
    >2wei Herz – my most anticipated show of the season. After what Illya experienced in UBW, she’ll get some payback for it here. The material left to cover will be a blast. I hope Silver Link delivers seeing as they’re extremely busy this season.
    >Classroom Crisis
    >Symphogear GX – Nana wills it.
    >DRRR Ten
    >Charlotte
    >Working!!!
    >Gatchaman
    >Rokka no Yuusha – planned to read the LN this month but CCC again. Currently reading.

    Tentatives:
    >DBZ Super – as much as I like DBZ, I don’t think I like to hear Goku’s Japanese voice.
    >Bikini Warriors – I like ecchi and boobs as much as the next guy and there’s Tony Taka and Hisasi in the character design but I feel like it’s not enough to make me watch it.
    >Shimoneta
    >Prison School – read the manga a few years back but I don’t remember any of it but I do remember I felt uncomfortable in some of the scenes.

Picking up too much, time management, no life, etc.

    • skylion says:

    • Foshizzel says:

TLRD 2, MonMusu, GANGSTA, Gakkou Gurashi, Aquarion Logos, Im@s CG 2, 2wei Herz, Classroom Crisis, Symphogear GX, Working!!! and DBZ Super

      Excellent choices!

    • akagami says:

      >DBZ Super – as much as I like DBZ, I don’t think I like to hear Goku’s Japanese voice.

So I just watched Super (having never watched any of DBZ in anime form before), and omg, all of the voice acting was claw’s-on-chalkboard quality. And Goku’s voice doesn’t match his age… his and Goten’s voice sounded the same age. The only decent VAing was with Mr. Satan, and maybe Videl.

  15. Joojoobees says:

I’m actually curious about a few of these titles, so..
Ranpo Kitan, Overloard – these are the titles I am most interested in.
Snow White with Red Hair – this looks like there is a decent chance of being a good show.
Gate – have my doubts, but I’ll give it a shot

    Happy Summer everybody!

  16. skylion says:

    Classroom Crisis PV

    • Foshizzel says:

I had no idea the level of scifi tech used in that anime and those almost mecha looking space ships~

Oh, yes. What we got up front was pretty minimal. But now it looks like a show I can sink my teeth into. DEM MARS colonies!!
