Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works Contd.

Spring15-UBW2

A roundup talk on episode 5 to 15.

spring14-kyoThis post has been a long time coming. Apologies for the big gap between the previous run to the continuation but most of you already know that things got delayed due to moving and of course my extra graphical responsibilities on Metanorn. There were many nights spent on the Spring Review but anyhow, I’m back with the continuation of Unlimited Blade Works and I have many goodies, with sometime cracked audio… Who cares though, it’s all good now as I can finally cover my loveable UBW. =w=

Rin is the best girl!

Show ▼

It seems that Shiro took Papa Kiri-tugu’s words too seriously and I quote from the VN, “If I can, I’d prefer nobody to be sad. If I can make people around me happy just by helping them myself, I think that would make the world a pleasant place to live in.” This is basically the gist of Shiro’s life, however much he seems annoying, he is a hero and typecasted to his bone. Pun intended. I know we would prefer Rin as the heroine but them double-teaming is the best you can get in the Fate work.

Anyways, I’m glad I caught up and expect regular posts from now on. This series is going well with the excellent quality of ufotable; however, I have problems with the current pacing. Actually, since episode 11, things have slowed down and though I know exposition is important (heck, Nasu spent quite a long bit writing scenarios and servant class details in the loooong VN), things could have been better. I understand, two cours are tough and there is a huge expectation (death stares of TM fans to boot), riding on this one. I just we could get something similar to the first few episodes of season one. I guess, things will get better with time as pacing should pick up with a lot of shenanigans still left.

Like I said, I want to know the general feedback of TM fans and first time watchers alike on second season. So, comment away.

    FINALLY. *FINALLY*

Also, finally the hearts of many a LOLicons have literally been ripped out.

I believe episodes 15/16 had the promised new material. They rewrote Caster’s master. Poor Caster. All she wanted was wuvywuvy. Show ▼

Actually, what is that even in a spoiler tag when the title of the episode is Princess of Colchis?!?

And dat Saber ass. Many a hentai sukebe are drooling. I don’t remember it being that assy.

Someone please put Shinji out of his misery. I seriously think Gil would do it. Show ▼

In other news, my poor priest. T_T Show ▼

So next week: GARcher VS GARncer. The Battle of the GAR.

    And favourite moments to date?

Wow the spoiler tags on this one! 😛

But yeah, FINALLY, I spent two days +1 weekend to finish the round up. Just had to get it out of the way.

I liked episode 15 and even when some of it is not in the VN, it has been alluded through Type-Moon extra stories and wiki information after interviewing Nasu. So, what we see is all legit. I was just not expecting this amount of detail for the ex-Master of Caster.

Pretty sure Saber’s ass was as sassy as we see. It’s just the ufotable QUALITY and the devil is in detail! 😉

Shinji is super annoying but he did channel some Izaya in front of Kirei, even if that was the sissy version. I did have fun and hats off to Kamiyan for it.

      Show ▼

And I’m definitely looking forward to MOAR GAR!

Good on ya for favourites. The priest is a wily one indeed.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Fortunately there cannot be any more H-doujin of Saber’s ass because all of the H-doujin has already been made in the last 10+years.

He’s completely nuts for Fate/Stay Night. Talk about a crazed fan person. 😛

  2. Di Gi Kazune says:

Also at the end of 13 in the preview: Saber realises that Archer is Show ▼

    • BlackBriar says:

Oi! Resist the urge to drop spoilers! Everyone else is enduring the pain. Me included. 😉

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Saber indeed did say that except that it was incomplete.

I do hope the nested spoiler tags work… If not, nest it.

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

Aaaaaannndddd it broke. I think I forgot something. I remember seeing it work. Fortunately, the main content is hidden.

Very well done. I’m impressed at your commenting rampage here, “crazed” fan person. Sound a little familiar? 😀

        • Kyokai says:

Same for Rin. Audience should figure out by now.

  3. Di Gi Kazune says:

Also in more unrelated news: No matter the Nasuverse, Rin always has to save Shirou’s life. Show ▼

Spoiler tagged for those who have not caught up with 3rei!!

  4. Di Gi Kazune says:

    Rin is the best girl!

The Matou Sakura fanclub would seriously disagree.

However you cannot disagree that Rin ranks *flicks through TM10Annibook* #4 in the TM Charapoll. (#3 Female after Seiba and Kyoukai Shiki.) Sakura is only 8th overall. Broskandar/IskanGAR is #6. :3

But the best woman? Caster. :3

    • Kyokai says:

Rin is the best girl in fate. Everyone knows my top selection in the TM-verse. SHIKKIIII!

Caster is just misunderstood, you know…

  5. skylion says:

I quite love this show at it’s heart. I feel it tells a great story at it’s most basic and prime level; it’s incredibly, and horribly damaged people seeking redemption, with the cost’s of said redemption defining who and what they are.

The Grail is a powerful metaphor in that light. But I feel it’s gets weaker when the esoterica of the material overshadows the basic story. It’s when relative power levels, and if you’ll excuse the expression, fan-wanking service comes in that it feels wobbly to me. It feels like the writers want to bluff for a higher pot, when they hand they’ve initially dealt themselves is more than enough to win all the stakes.

    But, I’m cheering for it!

      Gate of LOLicon.

    • Kyokai says:

Every writing has a flaw and Nasu can go on forever as we already know with so many versions of fate out already. Though, I love this to bits.

I guess I was a bit turned off due to the pace change and new material.

      • skylion says:

Yeah, I’ve heard that Nasu/show writers use Gil as a vacuum cleaner to suck up the loose ends. This isn’t so much an excuse as it is a big neon sign that says “You need a second draft!”

…ah, the things we love despite the flaws, that’s a true thing….

  6. Highway says:

I’ve been enjoying the show, and thought it did a very good job recently both humanizing Caster (who never really seemed to fit the ‘totally evil’ role that I felt they were shoehorning her into) and Illyasviel.

The best part so far has been Rin confessing to Shirou. In fact, all of the best parts have had Rin in them. Without her on the screen, it can really start to get “blah blah bla whatever”, especially when it’s Shirou and Archer posing at each other.

And then there’s Gilgamesh, who feels like Show ▼

(spoiler for gross allusion, but it’s bad). A boring OP character who doesn’t even bother to take his hands out of his pockets while lecturing Berserker and killing him off. Just feels like a gimmick, the overpowered character that will suddenly have some fatal flaw so that the brave hero can beat him. Even his fighting style is a snoozefest. The less I see of that guy, the better the show will be.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

These are Spoilers of Babylon for those who have never seen F/Z (which you SHOULD have done so before getting on here).

        Show ▼

    • Kyokai says:

Nasu spentds a lot of time in building characters. Even the douchebag Gilgamesh gets it but not in the UBW route. He’s just a mean ass villain in this one and he is too over-powering but I’ll suggest this to see this until the end. Exciting times are ahead.

And yes, Rin is the best girl and other route favourites can do whatever they want.

  7. BlackBriar says:

The Type-Moon meetings Fate/Stay Night posts are back! So far, so good. As I continue to watch the show, it gets more and more interesting in its world building and characters.

The second half of the show is where I Shiro is feeling the most backlash for his idealism. It’s cost him Saber among other things. There’s just no way everyone can be saved.

Caster is a real on and off matter. You get times where you’re pissed at her and others where you’re sympathetic. After her backstory, the previous animosity directed at her lessened. With such a douche her former master was, she’s not at fault severing ties to him. Sacrificing children for a small crystal in return. The act itself is appalling.

Next is Gilgamesh, who I’d love nothing more than to beat into a pulp. Honestly, that atrocious attitude and smug smirk he often wears piss me off to no end. What he did to Illya is where I hated him most. The sooner his ass gets handed to him, the better.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Yes, Shirou was a complete dumbass using his Command Spell on Saber in the middle of battle.

As for Gil, you do not mess with DA PIMP!

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Also DA PIMP, Gilgamesh, commands spammy to regurgitate the last comment! Or else!

    • Kyokai says:

Shiro will reap what he sowed but yeah he’s naivety does get on our nerves, more times than we would like to think. I like Caster as a character, however evil she gets. And it’s not just her previous master but all her previous master, the original one included when she was Medea, called her a witch in the end. I think said this in one of the MV casts but Kuzuki is the only guy to-date who has taken her seriously and talked to her as a person rather than a witch.

Episode 15 was heart-wrenching. Ah sadness is at the core of fate after all.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Jason is a retard. After all that Medea did to help him, after cutting shotas into pieces and making a stew… that asshole.

  8. Foshizzel says:

I don’t think I will ever like Shiroe because his dumb ass ideals are stupid! You can’t fight the servants and his whole thought process that girls can’t fight? Yeah that is dumb and I get that he is only doing what he was taught as a kid…

Caster is the most OP! DAAMN she has everything xD

    Rin is best character!

    RIP Illya…

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Caster is definately not OP. OP against humans, yes but compared to the other servants she’s pretty weak. Casters excel in defence as they have a bonus when they fight in their own Territory. Servants with high Magic resistance are her weakness. It’s just that if Show ▼

gets to use Rule Breaker, it’s a different matter.

      Also, Show ▼

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

I will ever like Shiroe because

I think you have got the wrong person. 😛

    • Kyokai says:

Shiro is annoying alright. And he was actually not taught much but he was just too inspired by Kiritsugu to become the Seigi no Mikata. Kiritsugu never wanted him to get into anything dangerous but see, he was a fool and Shiro is a bigger version of a fool than him. 😉

  9. Di Gi Kazune says:

    W00T!!! This week!

    Show ▼

The animation is even better than the descriptions!

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

And the BIG reveal as the Finale! 😀

Absolutely do not click if you don’t want to be spoiled.
