A.Z. I still don’t think they were technically in what we would call “space”, but the upper reaches of the atmosphere…which does have a large degree of turbulence. Now why the lunar debris can still hang there? Well, Aldnoah gravity….

I’m with Jrow on this. It feels like a degraded copy of a copy of the former run. For me, even though I think it will be a focus of diminishing return, I’m gonna watch it for the Martian forces and the story they tell.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Aldnoah lost the intensity built up from the first season instead of building on it, though I can’t see how else they could continue things without our 3 main characters. Right now they’re slowly rebuilding things.

It’s still interesting they mostly follow reallife physics.

      • skylion says:

…and that is a weakness by my perception….to rebuild things. I could be wrong thou, as this is a split cour, the step back to take a step forward might be necessary…

        • Foshizzel says:

After seeing these two episodes I honestly feel that they did not really NEED to do a split cour because yeah as Di Gi said they ran out of steam basically after episodes 12/13 of season one and now it just feels like they are trying to cash in on it somehow which isn’t working.

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

We will see… The Butcher’s other splitseason series was excellent. You ended with Cthulu and restarted with Cthulu. UBW ended with things badly broken and it’s not going to get any better.

    • Irenesharda says:

The Martian forces are seeming to be the most interesting…

      • sherrislok says:

Well of course. The Earth cast is just too bland. Inaho’s friends exist only to fawn over Inaho while dispalying no personalities on their own. Marito got his five minutes in the trauma affair and was sidelined ever since. Why is Rayet fighting against her own nation? We don’t know. Is there any point behind Magbaredge’s character apart from throwing sexist jokes here and there? Beats me.

        • Di Gi Kazune says:

Rayet is fighting for a reason. Look back in first season. Revenge is a continuing theme even up to the 3rd episode of season 2.

I expect Martian civil war to break lose anytime soon.

      • Foshizzel says:

Amen! I think the martian side is MORE interesting of the two sides but each side has their own set of MEEHHH issues.

  2. skylion says:

Cross Ange: I felt this was a bit too darn heavy on the magic double talk exposition. Vivian’s story went from interesting to derpy…she followed her dad? What?

But as long as they keep building the interest between the two worlds, and develop both Tusk’s and Ange’s relationship, I’ll dig it.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Since there is 11 more episodes to go to flesh the plot out, I’ll reserve final judgement till later. So far, things are getting interesting since episode 11. However, Mr. P0n0s is just being a MacGuffin at the moment. Replace him with someone else and it still wouldn’t change the grand schema of things much. As I’ve said before, there’re 11 more episodes and hopefully we’ll see the motivations of the sexy blonde guy exposed more though I have a feeling that things are going to be linked haphazardly towards the end.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

      Aaaand munch goes spammy.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah I don’t really get it either? I guess Vivian was the popular character or cutest so they wanted to use her for something special? Yeah I agree it went from cool to eh? Alright….

Well if you can call Tusk/Ange together as a “relationship” for now its the weekly LUL ANGE moments so I can’t take it serious ever.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Since I no longer trust spammy, I save all my long posts:

Here’s a tip, not-a-secret, but not really well known: If you make a post that has whatever content that will get caught by the spam filter, then putting that same content in another comment will likely get caught by the spam filter. I frequently see someone who has the same comment caught in the spam filter 3 times, like yours here was caught twice, before they give up.

We’ll get them out, have faith. It might take a few hours, but no more than that. We’re not getting the onslaughts of thousands of spam per hour that we were getting over the summer *knocks wood*. So it’s easy to check through what’s there and save comments.

  3. Highway says:

Cross Ange: At this point, they could do about anything they wanted with the story this side of having Slaine and Death Gun show up and make out and I’d be on board with it. I thought this was a lot of fun, and I liked the Dragon world. I bought the genetic engineering and world cleanup thing, and I thought Salamandinay was a nice character to have in the show. She knew she completely overmatched Ange, and just played along with her to get the opportunity to show her the truth of her world. I do kind of wonder why, although I think the reason is that if Ange joins the Dragon people, it’s basically the two of them vs. Embryo as far as Ragna-mail go. And that reveal that the ‘succubus’ girl we saw with Julio was an agent of the other world was a good one, and helped bring back that kinda derpy moment to a more believable one.

I’m just really interested in seeing where this goes. The show really isn’t telegraphing anything about where the plot goes. Does Ange join up? Does she go back to Arzenal? Does something else entirely happen? And the one thing that really made me wonder was that if the humans on Ange’s world are harvesting the big male dragons for their Dracunium to provide Mana, why would the other world play along? Why go attack? Or is there some reason they have to?

  4. zztop says:

Ange: Even when he’s naked, tied up and completely helpless, its still Tusk’s fault.

  5. BlackBriar says:

Cross Ange: A lot of useful, much need information poured in this time around. Now this confirms early suspicions on what the mana users have been drawing from as a power source. Embryo is a wretch that needs to be put down sooner than later. Based on Salamandinay’s (Personally, calling her Salamandra or something close to that would’ve been a better name) reveal, all the deplorable conflict and discrimination on Ange’s world didn’t need to happen.

Oh boy, Tusk! Used as a subject for sexual education, surrounded by a bunch of girls and getting an unintended bonus from Ange. He should consider himself the luckiest man alive.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah the manga users have been living off dragon magic! That seems kind of silly, but sure why not it brings everything full circle at least so the story works.

      Being Tusk is suffering xD

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Yeah the manga users have been living off dragon magic

Yes, I am a manga user! I have been living off dragon magic! And so have you! I shall now use all the dragon magic so that you all have none! MWHAHAHAHAH! 😀

      • BlackBriar says:

        manga users

        Riiiiight. 😉

Yeah, the pieces are coming together making the story easier to follow because one of the crucial points was figuring out what was generating the mana. Oh, how I’d love to see the faces of those degenerate Misurugi empire civilians, not to mention Ange’s bitch of a sister Sylvia (the same hypocrite calling for help after torturing Ange and had a hand in her near execution when she stuck her nose where she shouldn’t have) if they find out the news.

        • Foshizzel says:

Tusk is powered by ToLoveRU manga!

          • skylion says:

You should read ToLoveRu’s unfortunate little brother in Mujaki no Rakuen

            • Foshizzel says:

I will take a peek at that one! Thanks~

            • skylion says:

Warning…it is fairly heavy on the loliservice…

            • Foshizzel says:

Oh I figured cause I don’t think you are a boob person in terms of size hahah

            • Di Gi Kazune says:

              Did someone mention loli fanservice?

              *perks ears*

            • skylion says:

I’ve been tempted to do a Manga Review for it for quite some time. If it was just straight service it would be as dismiss-able as a crappy doujinshi (and the artist/writer already has enough of that terrible shit in his ouvre) But it actually has a backbone of a story; well one that is trounced by tropes every which way from ToLoveRU…

          • BlackBriar says:

After all those falls to Ange’s crotch, I’m inclined to agree.

  6. BlackBriar says:

Aldnoah.Zero: The second episode is interesting based on what’s brought to the table. Last season, we had Inaho and Slaine teaming up together which they proceeded to kick major ass but now we have them facing off against one another. So you got to wonder which one will come out on top. Everyone already knows Inaho is skilled but Slaine has proven himself tenacious as well and that can make quite an upset. Plus, which one will win Asseylum’s favor?

Aside from his twisted perception of serving Asseylum, after talking with her sister, I think Slaine’s main motivation for his path is retribution against the Earth for all the trouble being a Terran has caused him. Possible bottled up resentment that embittered him over time. Remember he was always carrying himself on based on the belief what he’s doing is for Asseylum’s sake but he never once showed any concern for the planet or its population that was systematically being annihilated. If anything, all he talked about was explaining why the sky was blue and etc… Had she not been with the Terrans, I doubt he’d have joined forces with Inaho when they were under attack by Martians.

    • Foshizzel says:

Together they are great, but apart they are sworn enemies and finally they know each others names LOL as for who will win Asseylum’s favor? I will say Inaho probably.

Yeah if things were different Slain would have been with Inaho’s side from the start butttt he went with his father to mars and met Asseylum xD

    • Irenesharda says:

Honestly, I don’t think Slaine’s really capable of holding resentment, at least against anyone that’s not harming the princess.

He doesn’t seem to have any care or hatred for all the torture and prejudice and abuse that he’s suffered at the hands of the Martian nobility, and he even calls there people his own now. I don’t think he hates either Terrans or Martians. However, he does realize now what it means to be a war, and he does his best with what he has in the position that he has. If that means taking on the Terrans, than so be it.

      • Di Gi Kazune says:

Heh. There is a phrase: Beware the quiet ones. I would be wary of Slaine.

        • Irenesharda says:

          Hehehe….:D

Let’s just say that this week’s episode proved that one. 😉

          • Nerazim says:

i do love his parting words though. it might sound cliched as hell, but it felt rather fitting, considering how he saved Saazbaum in the aftermath of the last season (or was it actually in the last episode? idr).

  7. Irenesharda says:

    Aldnoah. Zero:

Well, a good continuing episode where our two men have finally met once again, sort of face to face…

Slaine is going between serving Saazbaum, looking after Asseylum, and mollifying Lemrina. He’s organizing attacks and setting up troop platoons. He’s still serving people, but he really seems to be putting on different faces for everyone. I’m glad that Slaine and Eddelritto are getting on much better with each other than they did back the last time we saw them together back at episode one of the series.

Inaho has effectively turned into pretty much a cyborg and is even more of a walking, talking computer, which I can understand Inko’s ire. That could get on pretty much anybody‘s nerves. He’s figured out that Asseylum isn’t the real one, though what he’ll do with that information, I have no idea.
I am also glad that they are giving him some consequences to him being shot in the head, such as the fact that he’s still on medication and that it does affect his work. However, that eye just made him more OP in the process anyway, and made him pretty insufferable.

Lemrina is the illegitimate princess that feels sorry for herself and takes it out on everybody else, jealous of Asseylum, she wants to take her life for her own. I wouldn’t be surprised if she tries to kill her sister somehow. I already don’t like her, she seems like such a temperamental brat.

And to revoke Slaine’s Aldnoah access right as he was about to go to battle, just because he was watching over your sister? Petty much? >_<

Anyway, the battle was pretty good this episode. The Bat and Orange have met once more and they have been upgraded to Gull and Orange.
Somehow doesn't have the same ring to it, but okay…

Interestingly, seagulls have been a symbol of survivors and have been mentioned several times in this series already. Interesting that Slaine now carries that moniker.

Both get upgrades for battle: Slaine uses Tharsis' Aldnoah technology that allows it to predict trajectory of projectiles (not uncommon in many a mecha series) and Inaho uses his cyborg eye computer to do calculations and modifications to his kataphrackt that allows him to be able to fight better than all the other soldiers, even though this is his first space battle. As for the "wind" in space, I think Inaho mentions that the "wind" is not really wind, but its the name that the army calls the gravitational fluctuations that happen throughout the debris belt. If that helps make it any more believable. 😛

It's great that the two finally know each other's names and seem to be proper rivals now.

The emperor seems to be on his last leg, and Slaine and Saazbaum seem to have a plan regarding helping the people of Vers. However, I'm not sure how much Slaine is invested in this plan and how much he's humoring Saazbaum. However, Slaine made some good points in regards to Aldnoah and how it's the root of the problem with Vers.

Also, it was nice to have the Martian side have most of the focus, we get to see more of their grunt soldier pilots and how their operations go.

So, until next episode, war is on the horizon, and it looks like we'll be meeting two new counts this week according to the preview, so we shall see.

    • Foshizzel says:

-cracks knuckles to reply to Irenshara-

Slain is the master of not telling the truth! I couldn’t help but grin when he totally lied to Lemrina just to re-activate the Aldnoah! Wow good job bro.

Inaho’s eye as we said on this recording is the plot device to force him to TALK to all the characters even though I feel he is still the same boring main dude that nobody really likes and I can’t see that ever changing sadly…

Lemrina is up to something and I wouldn’t put it past her to pull the plug on Asseylum and call it an accident because she does not like her family at all!

Inaho needs to seriously tell the others “stay inside the ship, I got this.” because he doesn’t really NEED their “help” ever! I mean they are always the decoys anyway right?

The figuring out of their names made me laugh! It just comes off as goofy to me and I don’t know why? Maybe its the whole KAGOMEEE!! INUYASHAAAA! Thing? I could totally see that happening with Inaho and Slain shouting each others names as they rush at each other in the middle of a huge battle.

    >no one talking about GBF Try

Love the new OP and the content. The song is pretty catchy. ED is okay I guess.

Lots of stuff to look forward to for the nationals. We have Shia and her builder skills that will produce that green Gunpla in the OP. Seems like it’s based on the Exia with some heavy customization. Looking forward to that.
Shia’s definitely the new hotness of the show. Fumina and Mirai are old and busted already 😛

We also have that Junya that was mentioned before that also knows Jigen Haoh. Seems like he’ll pilot a black Build Burning Gundam. Even more that he’s voiced by Yoshino Hiroyuki who did Allelujah Haptism in Gundam 00. Expecting a lot of edge from this guy.

Finally, there’s that Lucas guy who was the grandson of Aila’s sponsor in the first season. Seems he grew up to be a strong fighter and probably idolizes Aila to this day. He even used a Jegan to display his skills just like Aila did before. He should be a formidable enemy. I know Romi Park is a long time veteran of Gundam but she doesn’t fit him. The voice seems too high-pitched for a guy.

Nationals is pretty much hyped now. Should be fun. Hope we see Sei sometime soon. He showed up briefly in the OP after all.

    • Foshizzel says:

      I <3 that you talk about it <3 <3 <3

That new OP is AWESOME! I love the hints of future fights to come and the ED I saw mirrors the ED from season one well parts of it.

I can't wait to see just how Shia battles! LOL yeah she is starting to become more popular than Mirai and Fumina but the fanartists still prefer them! I can't wait to see the outfits Mirai will wear during the tournament maybe some cosplay from SEED? Namely Lacus outfits or that DESTINY version?

Oh the hooded guy? Yeah I am curious about him as well and I had no idea he was the voice actor for Allelujha? Wow good stuff.

I have my fingers and toes crossed for Sei to appear before the end! I am sad that we are close to the end with a handful of episodes left..

I’m glad that I’m not the only person that thinks Reminia resembles Chaika.

Ya Know i was kind of aware of Ange’s Attitude lately, I Mean i was really thinking, was is she up to, after she gets away from arzenal, Will she going to ditch out the DRAGONs…or worse!

I get a feeling that, there will be a bad outcome in the final episodes, but nobody knows…
