Bringing some excitement from STGCC!

Guests-STGCC

We are bringing you some more convention excitement from Singapore!

spring14-kyoIt’s rare to see me posting on a weekday but I make this exception for yet another convention coverage that we will be doing in the coming weekend. I am more than excited to announce that one of our Guest Writers (Kuromono) will be attending STGCC and cover some fabulous events and guest for you. The Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC), are all set to take Southeast Asia’s pop culture scene by storm with their power-packed guest list this year. Read on for highlighted guests details and leave your comments for questions you want to ask them. This is really a rare opportunity. For an introduction of the event:

STGCC juices up the pop culture universe with offerings from the worlds of toys, games, comics, anime, manga and collectibles. Last year, STGCC attracted close to 40,000 visitors over 2 days! There was a convergence of a multitude of pop culture’s best with 181 exhibitors from 10 countries and was attended by 225 international media from online to broadcast. This year, get ready to be star struck by STGCC’s galaxy of stars on 6 and 7 September at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Marina Bay Sands.

Tomokazu-Sugitan

At least anaaga and I are dying here because for the first time, Tomokazu Sugita, a very well known A+++ seiyuu behind the voices of: Gintoki in Gintama, Kyon in Haruhi Suzumiya, teenage voice of Joseph Joestar in JoJo, Hoshi in Arakawa Under the Bridge, Munakata in K, Hidenori in Nichibros, Chamber in Gargantia and recently Drakon in Magi: Sinbad no Bouken, is attending a convention outside Japan! We are this close in cutting a ticket and flying there but oh well RL!

There will be no media specific interviews for him; however, the organizers are calling out to all fans to submit their questions for him on their fanpage. So, if you are a die-hard fan like us, click here and submit your questions and who knows he will actually answer! He’s a cosplayer himself and has cosplayed many of his voiced roles so I’m really looking forward to one of his surprises. Though, as this is his first international convention experience, not really sure what his agent will suggest but overall, just happy to see him attend a convention. Gives me hope to see him in another in future.

STGCC 2014 - Makoto Kedouin (KEDWIN)

Besides, Sugitan, we also plan to have some content from the following celebrities:

Makoto Kedouin (KEDWIN), is the writer of Corpse Party, a survival horror adventure Doujin (self-published works) video game series. The popularity of Corpse Party has spawned titles in many other games, manga and OVA (original video animation). Catch him at STGCC as he brings his staple “horror factor” from Japan to Singapore!

Nao Shirahane (AKA Dmyo), is an illustrator from Korea who is currently residing in Japan. She is known for her drawing for the online game Trickster, and illustrations for the game DJMAX. She is famous for her character designs and contributions to various works: Nintendo 3DS game “Onna no ko no misshitsu ni itara maru maru shicau kamo shirenai” by D3PUBLISHER INC,  PSP Game “Sucre” by GIGA, Mascot illustrator for Culture:Japan and Insert illustration in light novels and magazines also serialized manga published by Kadokawa and Koudansha.

Nao is active in her Doujin Circle “Snow Ring” and “Sleepless child”, where she has a project with the high profile Taiwanese cosplayer Stayxxxx. Their first collaboration takes the form of “Cosplay x Illustration”, with Stayxxxx cosplaying as Eiji Seiun, the male partner of Mirai-chan, spiced up with Shirahane Nao (AKA Dmyo)’s illustration of Mirai-chan. It was a piece done in celebration of the launch of Danny Choo’s Smart Doll (as below).

STGCC 2014 - Sleepless Child

Stayxxxx may look like a suave and stylish guy when donning various anime/manga/game outfits, but she is in fact a female cosplayer well-known for cosplaying male characters. Her depictions of anime characters such as Captain Levi from Attack on Titan, Houka Inumata from Kill la Kill, and Gilgamesh from FATE series have won her fans from across the region. Check her recent work here.

Lenneth XVII, is a self-paced cosplayer whose only drive is her passion for the characters she cosplays. She’s not picky about who she cosplays, but rather why she cosplays them. The learning process in cosplay is endless so despite being in the circle for close to 14 years now, meeting new people and handling new projects always teaches her new things every time! Check some of her work here.

Let me remind you that the event is not animanga-centric alone but bring in a mix of popular culture content and guests from fandom of toys, games, comics and collectibles as well. There are panels and cosplay competition so if you are in Singapore, do not miss this! As there is a lot of variety and things to see with the event schedule packed to the brim. Also, check out the official site for ticketing details.

Looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun, too bad it’s halfway around the world from me. 🙂 I know we have some readers who are in Singapore, tho, and I hope they go and have a good time.

too bad it’s halfway around the world from me.

We are the unlucky ones, aren’t we? I’m a little bit worse off since I live all the way in the French Caribbean. Well, one can always dream.

      • belatkuro says:

Don’t you guys have Anime Expo, Fanime, Comicon and many other conventions there? That’s much better than here really.

Also, spammy got one of my comment.

        • Kyokai says:

If I didn’t need to save some of my annual leaves, I would be attending this for sure just for Sugitan. Overall, the line-up is pretty interesting so really looking forward to the coverage. xD

PS: @belatkuro, saved the rail wars comment.

  2. BlackBriar says:

Sounds like a real anime lover and gamer’s paradise. Too bad I never get a chance to attend these conventions where I am. Oh, the items I’d grab up.

Tomokazu Sugita’s dedication is something to be admired if he cosplays his own anime roles. Much respect to the guy! Who knows? Maybe he’ll with a Hiiyo Ikusaba from Nanana’s Buried Treasure (Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin). Odds are he could pull it off.

    • Kyokai says:

I’ll get back to you a bit later with some awesome cosplay pics of his. He’s an awesome sport! :3

      • BlackBriar says:

Something’s telling me I’ll be overwhelmed by those pics.

        • Kyokai says:

Sorry for the delay. Work and health has been hectic. >< Gintoki from Gintama:

Hoshi from Arakawa Under the bridge:

Kyon from Haruhi Suzumiya (btw, there’s Ono Daisuke cosplaying his character Koizumi as well):

          Char from Gundam:

Recently, Yukiko Amagi (though, this was just for fun for a show rather than an actual character that he voiced) –

  3. belatkuro says:

It’s only a 3 hour flight from here. Sadly my relatives in there already moved out to another country so I don’t have any place to stay. Plus flying to a convention is beyond me. I hardly even go to conventions here. Also, :money: and RL. I have too many :reasons: OTL
Looking forward to the coverage though. It’s pretty big to have Sugita on board.

Speaking of Sugita, I recently watched one episode of Tokyo Encounters, a segment of him and Nakamura Yuuichi playing vintage video games. They’re pretty fun to watch. And they’re pretty good in playing games as well. Totally BFFs.

    • Di Gi Kazune says:

Heh. Also staying within that flight radius but hard to justify going by yourself without anyone joining you there. Went to AFAMY. This from what information is there is like 50-50 anime/western stuff.

Whoever goes, enjoy. *and secretly bring back cosplay panchira shots ala comiket 😛 *

    • Kyokai says:

@ belatkuro, I’d be broke if I went to all cons I wanted to! The saddest thing for me was him answering my question that I posted on FB and of course not getting his signed merch because I wasn’t there physically. OTL!

Also, I loooove Tokyo Encounters. That is where the legendary friendship between Sugitan and Yuuichi started but I’m pretty sure they were good acquaintances before because of sharing the same passion for gaming. Some has actually subbed till episode 20 or 21 of this so it’s highly entertaining to watch even with early episodes being LQ.

@DDK, lucky you and I have a feeling you already have a personal stash of your own! 😛

  4. skylion says:

I would like to attend to see Humberto Ramos, who in addition to doing an extensive run in his Spider-Man comics (poor fellow had to illustrate the awful story where Peter Parker turned into a giant spider and gave birth to himself, a himself that had webshooters in his wrist…just like the movie…until the new movies came out nerfing that!) But he did have the quasi-manga-esque series Crimson, that I read back in the Nineties.

    • Kyokai says:

I’m pretty sure if you google the coverage of this con, you might just find some interview of him.

  5. Cybersteel says:

Ohoho Sugita, I’ll be there too :3

  6. anaaga says:

JESUS CHRIST WHY SEPTEMBER WHEN I’M COMING TO SG THIS NOVEMBER WHY SUGITAN WHY WHY WHY

  7. Overcooled says:

WOW, that is definitely an impressive line-up of guests. I wish I had more money to justify flying around the world to go to anime conventions TwT I’ll just live vicariously through Kuromono

  8. Kyokai says:

One update. Stayxxx won’t be attending this event due to some scheduling problems. 🙁

  9. […] stage panels as well as exclusive interviews with some of the special guests for Metanorn as highlighted before. As the event had a gracious list of guests and activities, allow me to apologise beforehand for […]
