Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma✫Illya 2wei! – 6echs

The first of many…

Arthur Dent rather famously asked, once upon a time, “What is normal, anyway” Well, Vogon’s and Infinitie Improbablity Drives notwithstanding, to say nothing of giant penguins, the world of the Nasuverse is hardly normal. Stick around as we will be restoring normality as soon as we know what is normal anyway…

“…outweigh a millenium-old-dream?”

Feed, burped, changed, or inherit my mother’s legacy to be a cup?

So in this place, what is normal anyway? When you have families of mages, thousands of years old, fighting tooth and nail and Noble Phantasm over the possession of a magical wish machine, normal can mean being able to have lunch at the local burger shack without a billion angry swords appearing from the sky and asking if you want fries with that…So in this respect, wishing for something that is much closer to the average person’s daily walk, when your hip deep in the angry sword festivities, might be asking for a bit much. So, if that’s you, what can be your normal?

Mom said she’d be picking us up soon, anyone seen her?

Ah, one again, Silver Link brings the cool toys. Thou it surely was not the stomp that happened in the GRRR!Sabre Archer!Illya sequence during the last series, that shouldn’t stop anyone from thinking it wasn’t an awesome fight. They love to move the camera around, and they love to bring the surrounding into play. Sometimes battle’s that involve flying contenders can lose some appeal, but they mixed up the aero action with plenty of ground smacking. Miyu left some of woods untouched, but don’t I think she was trying for deforestation! There have been some rather lackluster animation the past few shows, with some abrupt character models. But I think they more than made up with this. Well, CGI car was CGI, but that was a sweet move. Iris, you need to go on Top Gear. “Ahhh, going a bit off road here. Oh, where did that tree come from? I’ll never beat that Ramsey now”

Because you’re the one hurting

When I’m at work on any job, I tend to get very possessive of how it get’s done. Not all the time, but it does happen. And I can get quite moody in seeing it done the right way. So much to the point that Heath Ledger’s Joker makes comments. The times when it doesn’t happen with me? When another player on the field is “too focused”. That’s when I step back, appreciate the look in the mirror, and become the calm one. So with that in mind, it was great to finally see the much needed empathy come out of these characters. What is normal, anyway? Well, starting off with the need to feel and be felt, helps a great many other processes come along nicely. Especially when you’re a little angry ball of mana that needs to be replenished. It’s a crazy thing…Chloe and Illya both felt the exact same thing, the desire to be loved and to love in return. To belong. It was good to see the resentment boil away.

But how about dat background? I love how the series came to the emotional conclusion that both Kiritsugu and Irisviel both started. A thousand year old plan…cancelled because these two wanted to give their daughter something better, and wanted something better for themselves. It does make me wonder why Mama is holding cards so close to her vest, and how much she’s willing to let the girls do more heavy lifting.

“What’s a cow?”

Well, this one had all the boxes checked for me. Great combat animation, good character development, furthering the background and exposition, and a great emotional script. Then it’s time for another bath and LOLiservice. I made it no great secret that I felt upset with the adaptation the past two or three episodes, and even though this was mostly the same style, there was some subtly at play they used to make it fit the screen better. Miyu’s gasp, instead of repeating the words  The Holy Grail War, fit’s the scene better, and instead of another blatant fansevice kiss, they toned it down, and kept the it on character and mood. Chloe’s replenishment didn’t need to be overplayed in that manner.  My only complaint coming out of this episode is everyone’s complaint. Only ten episodes?! What do you folks think?

I think there’s no way they’re going to do what they think they’re going to do unless this is a split-cour double ten-episode run, or something. The preview for the next episode shows that they’re using up all the “filler” between this point and the next plot point, and once they start that one they’ll be irrevocably trapped on the main plot for the season.

    • skylion says:

It’s going to have to be a split cour if they want to tell all of 2wei. They’ve got 9 chapters in the first six episodes, with the next two probably being filler. But this is academic, and it means that Silver Link has made me just do what I hate doing…having to overthink the source material. C’mon, use it as inspiration and tell the story for the medium…

I dunno what it was about this episode, but it just didn’t feel like it had any tension. Maybe it’s because Miyu’s fight with Kuro just felt low-key, or because Illya didn’t really react when talking with Irisviel, or just the whole thing together. It felt like they were just going through the motions, getting the lines out, and getting it over with. Very little excitement or interest.

    • Wanderer says:

…I can only conclude you are a heartless monster.

      • Highway says:

Maybe. It wouldn’t be the first time someone’s concluded that. But for me Illya just hasn’t been a character I have felt much empathy with this whole season. She just doesn’t seem to make an effort. Even this time, she temporarily stopped the fight, but it never feels like she really is trying.

In the first season, there was some excitement from her, as she kind of rebelled against the idea of being a magical girl, but triumphed in her tasks anyway because she actually tried. But this season all she’s done is whine about Kuro.

        • thorgriim says:

Yeah I can sorta agree, Illya hasn’t really Tired this season, and I felt she did whine about Kuro mostly, But she also whined a bit about being a magical girl at the start, what ya expect shes still a little kid haha.

Both times her life has been on the line, but here it feels like she just avoid getting hit, playing on the sidelines in a way.

Like I commented in 5ünf before, 2wei is the weakest of the 3 series. Except for Lancer’s master and the True Shota End. Oh well, you can expect everything to be perfect all the time.

        • skylion says:

That’s been a point I was trying to avoid saying myself…cause from there comes rant, and those are boring…

    So… 6echy. Sounds hentai.

Not a bad episode, Sorta like ya said, a little bit of everything nice, A nice fight finally with awesome angles and car flying action. Finally character development along with that background story that actually ties into the fate world, I figured the cup wouldn’t even be mentioned in this series, but i guess that’s sorta a given with the cards hehe.

Not as Emotional for me, it was more what I was already expecting when Chloe said she wanted a normal everyday life, so after that this wasn’t too much of a surprise but finally able to see Chloe fall apart and show a different emotion.

Only complaint for the actual episode was, mama-san~ Chloe seeing her almost broke her right there on the spot, but good thing mama-san had powers to stop her.. even those she was already running on fumes. The bit I didn’t like was the bath scene, Mama-san didn’t do anything but try to explain.. what exactly? ya some back-story but Chloe corrected her and then became all emotional, while Mama-san sorta sat there and watched hehe, I just expected her to show some motherly love and do something for Chloe, and explanation or a hug or cast a spell or something anything would a been nice.. But leave it to the kids to do something about it.. lol Worst mom of the season! nah I wouldn’t go THAT far hehe.

Yay more lolibathness! although it ended in tears and smiles so the excitement was lost but we got to see ‘friendship’ and Illy kissing Chloe this time.. aww. So all in all, not a bad episode, a little bit of all the things and a cute smile from Chloe right at the end!, I wonder if the rest of the series will be all filler, then season 3 down the road, or will they start to explore Miyu past.. she seem more shocked by what mama-san said hehe anyways next time! Loli cleaning wars has begun…

Great combat animation, good character development, furthering the background and exposition, and a great emotional script. Then it’s time for another bath and LOLiservice.

    • skylion says:

Well, they got to the cup bit, but haven’t touched on what Iris, Illya, and the two maids really are. This was a sidelong glance into the Holy Grail War. The big guns fire much later on.

Mama-san’s sometimes just have to sit back and let the kids fume and fuss.

  5. BlackBriar says:

So the Holy Grail War no longer exists. How far into their universe has it gotten for that to happen? And it’s kind of a bitch living life only to end up as some cup. Kuro expressed a lot of emotion here, whether it’s annoyance or despair and they’re well warranted. To exist without is practically the same as being dead.

The fight between Miyu was good. The animation was great but it felt lacking in some parts due to the pauses and too much talking going on during it.

PS: Here’s the promo for next season’s Hitsugi no Chaika: Avenging Battle if anyone’s interested.

    • Highway says:

And it’s kind of a bitch living life only to end up as some cup.

You know, it may sound kinda dumb, but that very sentence right there is what ultimately turned me off of watching Fate/Zero. The fact that the only character I marginally cared for after 4 episodes was pointlessly doomed from the very beginning was something I was just not interested in watching.

      • skylion says:

The themes of sacrifice, and generational sacrifice that is seen in the War was quite compelling. The story that they laid bare with Kiritsugu, Irisviel, and Illya had incredible components of choice. And they built up to it so well. And honestly, her doom was not at all pointless.

    • skylion says:

The Holy Grail War as seen in the larger F/SN/Zero continuity is all but gone. But something that large cannot easily be swept under the rug.

  6. Di Gi Kazune says:

Damn that inconvenient steam… obscuring all the delicious pettanko.
