Kamigami no Asobi – 09-10

Best End

I know I said a couple of episodes ago that Tsukito taking about the moon’s beauty didn’t seem like anything deep in regards to Tsukito and Yui, but I was totally wrong. I was talking with my friend the other day (who just came back from Japan) and apparently “the moon is beautiful tonight” is a really roundabout confession over there. Who knew.

The main issue with god/human romances always seems to be that the human will inevitably die. The was true in Cassandra’s case, and of course if Yui ever got together with any of the characters, it would be the same for her. From Yui’s reactions in the past situations though, she would probably stay positive enough throughout life if romance ever happened in this anime… They kind of brought this topic of the separation between humans and the gods again at the end of episode 10. Though in that case, it was the fact that Yui and her harem won’t be able to hang out like this (or maybe even see one another at all) once the school is over. From their reaction to Yui’s words, the gods all seem to be under the impression that seeing Yui again isn’t really a possibility. Though that may prove to be untrue in the end due to the magic of love, friendship, and whatever.

As for the whole Cassandra/Apollon thing, apparently was a large deviation from where the game did with their relationship and Yui’s involvement (or at least, as far as I’ve been told). Game version, Apollon was only close to Yui because she reminded him of Cassandra. Cassandra was still alive at this point, apparently but her and Apollon weren’t “together” together due to her planning on dumping Apollon anyways (plus some prophecy made by Zeus that she would betray/destroy Apollon, though for some reason Apollon is completely unaware of said prophecy even though he can see the future). …If you’re wondering how Cassandra is even around, there’s some weird time thing involved too, where Apollon was living in ancient Greece or wherever before Zeus dragged him to school. Anyways, Yui and Apollon got together just due to Yui confessing and Apollon getting over the other woman.

Obviously they changed this here so that Apollon just seemed to like Yui from the beginning because the magic of the all-attractive heroine… who knows. Maybe it was still because Yui reminded him of his dead girlfriend (and the plot just left that out because the truth would be kind of awkward to point out). Plus there was probably less weird love triangle drama this way. …Yeah, the anime’s version of this relationship is probably preferable. Apparently the game’s series of events never made much sense in the first place. Plus, Apollon has seen Yui’s awesome personality in action enough times, so it’s probably turned into genuine affection by now if it wasn’t already love at first sight.

So Takeru regaining his god powers by accident is cause to almost have him expelled, but Apollon doing it is A-okay. …Alright then, Zeus. Obviously the situations in which the characters got their powers back were different, but way to play favourites. So since Apollon is all good for graduation, can he just leave? Obviously he won’t since if he does, he won’t be seeing Yui again. But from the explanation, it sounds like he could if he really wanted to. Seeing how there’s only a few episodes left, I doubt any of the other gods will be getting special plot treatment like this. Their powers will probably all come back in a group thing.

Anyways, enough seriousness, let’s talk about that play. …Or at least, talk of what I can about it, since basically all there is to say about it is “LOL”.  It’s probably a good thing that I left this series for 2 episodes, since otherwise I would just be at a loss for words regarding episode 10. There was a play, it went to hell pretty fast, and Thoth may be the greatest narrator ever. Oh, and I guess they had Kaji go make his random animal noises for Anubis (I wonder how much he was paid for this role ww).

Though the episode ended off on a serious note. Both with the fact that everyone will be going their separate ways when the school ends, and Balder’s collapse. He was weirdly back to normal in the past two episodes, considering how he acted so possessively before this, but maybe his sudden issues will finally explain his change in attitude. …Or they can keep on ignoring that and then go on to Balder having other issues, I guess.

Well, things are going alright. I don’t mind watching KamiAso, but I don’t think that this is revolutionary or anything. Er, maybe revolutionary in terms of otoge anime (honestly, this should be the standard; I don’t understand how almost every single anime can completely butcher a game), but I’ve been into a lot of the shoujo genre recently and in that, KamiAso just kind of falls into the average pile. Er, maybe slightly above average. It’s definitely funny, but some shoujo manga do awesome things with humour AND the plot. Plus the heroines (for what I’m reading anyways) are mostly all Yui-level awesome. Ugh, I’ve been watching terrible otoge shows for too long. Why didn’t I read more shoujo manga sooner. …On the other hand, I’m also kind of scared to start playing the damn game for KamiAso. I know from friends that the anime has changed a bunch about Yui’s character and after this episode, probably improved the plot. Ahahaha. Anyways, it should be interesting to see what they’re going to do with Balder’s collapse.

Not exactly. Tsukuyomi’s too (-_-) to give off ‘otokonoko’ vibes, while Susanoo’s too muscular.

I have been trying to decide which play was better, this one or YuruYuri’s demolishing of Snow White. I think this one definitely ended better.

Apollon having his limiter removed was completely different from Takeru forcibly breaking it. And I’ve been watching too much anime (and maybe the characters have, too) since the first thought is that the ghost is there to hurt Yui, instead of her real goal to forgive Apollon.

Don’t be too quick to say that shoujo heroines are uniformly better. Plus, shoujo too often just jerks you around so much.

Well, she was kind of giving off yandere vibes. Plus the whole river things seemed slightly more vicious since that’s where she died, I guess.

Oh Yui is fine, I’m complaining about every other otoge heroine out there. I know what you mean, there are a lot of shoujo heroines who need… help. But the ones I’m reading are pretty good.

…I can already tell that this is going to be a vicious cycle for me. I held back from shoujo because the heroine often goes the route I don’t want her to take, which leads to me playing otoge, which leads to me being really into otoge anime for a period of time. OTL

The last few episodes have just been sort of okay. The play was really funny especially with Thoth ad libing. I didn’t really like the whole Apollo backstory, I don’t know why they didn’t choose a mythological figure Apollo was actually in love with rather than the tragic Cassandra. They’ve been pretty faithful so far with a lot of the mythology, so it was weird that they deviated so far here. Why couldn’t they just use Daphne or something? Anyway, episode 9 was okay, but I’ve seen much better elsewhere.

As for episode 10, it was okay filler, funny but not much else. The end was a little more serious as they all realize that after everything is over, they will go back to their particular mythology and divine jobs. It would actually be impossible for the different pantheons to stay together simultaneously since they would have several gods over each area and there would be way too much clashing, but I guess they could try to get together every once and awhile somehow? Though with Yui living in the human world, I don’t know about her.

As for Balder, I’m guessing he’s going to be the key to the big climax that was in the beginning and this will lead to the reason why Loki has to kill him.

I guess they had Kaji go make his random animal noises for Anubis (I wonder how much he was paid for this role ww).

I’m surprised the game developers hired an essentially talented voice actor to make animal sounds for the game’s majority, considering his price.
But apparently Anubis is a bonus route in the game, and never appears in main routes. You will only hear Kaji Yuki’s proper speaking voice there.
