Gundam Build Fighters Series Review

Time for a epic Gundam Fight!

Out of all the shows that wrapped up last season I found Gundam Build Fighters to be a really great series and it was actually one of the shortest Gundams I have ever seen with only 25 episodes which is super rare! I know most people passed on this originally because the main characters are little kids, but there are a lot of amazing battles that involve lots of Gundams from from the Original, Zeta, Gundam wing, G Gundam, SEED/Destiny, 00, AGE, Unicorn and yes there were some random ones created just for the series as filler machines.

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

MEATBUN. F*CKING. CHRONICLES. That’s the show right there. I’d kill for Sunrise to actually make an OVA of Reiji and Aila’s adventures in Arian.

Seriously though, this was the most enjoyable show I’ve seen in years. As a Gundam fan, I wasn’t hesitant on checking this show out since I first saw the trailer, I knew what I was going to get, and it delivered more than what I expected. It’s a love letter to Gundam fans and the fandom after 35 years of existence. I honestly have a hard time getting over this show that transitioning to G-Reco is going to be a little weird.

For the record, in my years of being a Gundam fan, I’ve never built a Gunpla until I’ve seen this show. And guess what, I have built EIGHT since episode 16 with Takeshi Iori’s tutorial on Gunpla building. Good job, Sunrise. You managed to take my money.

As for the clamor for a second season, I wouldn’t mind seeing it if it does happen, but as far as the 25 episodes I’ve seen, I’m pretty much happy and content with Build Fighters.

Yeah we really need to see what happened with Reiji and Aila afterwards…

I loved it and yeah it was a interesting Gundam series for me and it gave us a lot of epic battles! Lol yeah I have built a few but not recently…

True we probably don’t really need anymore right now but either way I will enjoy more <3

I just decided to watch the first episode on a whim, and it really is a Gundam fanboy/girl’s dream. I’ve built a mech model before, but since I can’t really paint it paled in comparison to the display case models.

The plotline didn’t really appeal to me, but I’m sure the number of Gundams and mechs they have would appeal to most Gundam fans.

Oooh? Cool I am glad you gave it a shot! It really is a nice Gundam series and you don’t have to be a hardcore fan to get into it but it certainly helps to know what series each Gundam comes from.

Plot wise its kind of a tournament style arc with Lori and Reiji training to become the best builder and fighter while working as a team.

I wouldn’t say I’m a hardcore Gundam fan, but I did watch most of the major Gundam series. Therefore I was slightly looking forward to this series when it first aired.

Overall I’d say if not for the Gundam angle, this would be a rather generic kids show based on some toy merchandise. The plot was rather shallow, and some aspects of the fights don’t make much sense when you really think about it (case in point; in the finale when Iori and Reiji tried to shield China and Aila’s badly damaged gundams from the enemy MS like the girls are really piloting on board it lol) yet because of the vast Gundam material they could draw on, it managed to elevate the series to be a pretty good show. The fights were flashy and exciting, the Gundam references made it a fanboys/girls wet dream (esp ep 23 with its references galore) and they had some cute pairings (Reiji x Aila ftw).

In fact if anything, this series made me realise how low my Gundam power levels actually are, which has hardened my resolve to start watching all the Gundam series I’ve been missing. And credit to Sunrise, watching this show is making my hands itch to get building some Gunpla myself, so I guess the show has definitely succeded in its main objective. Hopefully that season 2 will get announced soon..
