Gintama: Kanketsu-hen – Yorozuya yo Eien Nare Review

GintamaMovie- (28)

Come along for a time travel adventure with Gintoki

Hello to the Gintama fans I know we have a few of them out there that follow us on Metanorn, but even so this was one of the best movies for me of the year because the team behind Gintama always has excellent comedic moments, great drama and kick ass action. I didn’t upload a youtube video because it would be over an hour and fifty minutes long. However, you can download the torrent if you want to hear us talking while watching the movie. Just a note, you will enjoy the recording more if you are watching the movie with us rather than just listening.

———————————————–

Oh lord, finally a proper Gintama post on Metanorn, and it’s about the movie which happened to be one of the best things that ever happened in 2013. Despite the movie being a standalone, the movie managed to squish itself into the Gintama timeline without having to ruin the entire story. Even better, that Gintama sense is still there in the entire movie, not making us forget how the original series is like (another reason why mangaka should be involved in such projects). Definitely one of the best original movie that was made under Sunrise and Shounen Jump’s belts. Those who haven’t watched Gintama should definitely try watching this movie. Who knows, you’ll be hooked with this. And I bet many will.

————————————————

Oh, where should I even begin? I absolutely adore Gintama and I’m so glad Fosh and anaaga pushed me to finish the anime (last year) and I will soon be moving to reading manga because damn, I can’t wait for another seasonal adaptation, which might be late. If you are wondering if you can watch this movie as a stand-alone, you can, but you will definitely miss a lot of references but if you like what you see in the anime (don’t judge it untill you have watched at least four episodes because first two are just trolls), you can still give this a go after finishing at least season one. You might not know who Tsuki, Kyubey and other older friends of Gintoki but the humour and truckload of anime references will keep you glued to your screen.

As a fan, it might be my bias talking but I loved this movie with anime-series references and the way everyone grew up or changed with time (some bizarre like Elizabeth to fun like Okita Battosai!). The matured Kagura you can already see in the screenshot below but damn, the best straight-man turning into a megane bishie was quite rewarding for a while. Also, let’s not forget Gintoki’s so-called disguise, another running joke beside the old Kintoki one. This movie continued to entertain me till the last minute with Gintoki’s entire harem showing up with not only laughs but emotional moments as well. No wonder I was highly amused to see four Gintama releases present in MAL’s Top 10. Even if I don’t generally agree with MAL ratings and HELL NO for recommendations but this shows the masses’ ratings and love for trolls. Yes, be trolled and love Gintama.

    A pretty good movie.

(I watched it because of this post)

Also, they had Pray at the end. The best anime theme song ever.

    • Foshizzel says:

      Great movie! YESSSSS!

      Awesome <3

I agree man that opening takes me back and damn I love it~

    • Kyokai says:

Yes, our missions accomplished! We need more people hooked on Gintama.

      • CarVac says:

Oh, it wasn’t a matter if getting me hooked but rather awareness.

Although I still haven’t made it completely through the TV series yet; I’m only halfway done.

        • Kyokai says:

Oh no issues and we wish you enjoy your remaining episodes of Gintama. I watched it very slowly (2-4 episodes per week), and I enjoyed it more this way because seriously, due to the humour, you can’t really laugh straight for 2-3 hours.

        • anaaga says:

          Y-you’re watching Gintama!?

          I love you already

Whaa? Why so short? Is the review in the video? I wanted you to write at least a whole page of superlatives for this fabulous movie so that I could fanboy and squeal and feel like a whippersnapper once again. Sadly, I already had to delete the movie after watching it two times in a row because bakabt is having christmas sale right now and I need some free space. ‘^_^

    • Kyokai says:

I assure you, I wanted to but had to stop myself from going overboard. So, yes, we recorded ourselves while watching the entire movie together so whenever you do download the Gintama movie again do same for our torrent and listen to our recording with it because we fangirl squee, gasp, laugh and DAAWW exactly on the right spots. xD

Also, get an external HDD (a friend for all animetards) soon and good luck with your future purchases! :3

This movie was a great way to end 2013. Seeing all grown up Kagura again was a blast not to mention stimulating (yes I said it) thanks to a fully utilized KugiRie. The sudden time travel drama hits hard and when you realize the guys won’t be coming back to your screens again so soon, it really hurts.

Being able to see this in the theater back in July was one of the best perks of moving to Japan 😀
