First impressions – Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda

All hail our new loli overlord Kate!

Woooooooo! The evil loli overlord is finally here to take over the world, but what are we really expecting from this series anyway? For me I just want this to be a really goofy anime that does not take itself super serious! That said I can’t wait to see how silly things get with Sekai Seifuku.

World Conquest for the win

sekaaii (1)

Say hello to your main character!

sekaaii (4)

Kate is super cute!

Pro tip from our main character Asuta Jimon! When running away from home make sure you stay away from any random little girls that you might encounter because they just might be a leader of an “evil” underground organization! Wait that actually sounds like a fun adventure…I remember when we started working on our winter preview I originally had no idea what Sekai Seifuku was going to be about besides a story about some little girl wanting to take over the world, but the one thing that stood out for me was the amazing character designs by Sasaki Keigo which looked really great to me. While that part had me glued to my screen the entire time I think most of us just want to know where the story is going to go right? Because as it stands right now this anime series appears to be just another join my team and go on adventure type of anime or is it going to be something else? I suppose Sekai Seifuku could be about a group of people who are looking for a place to call home? Especially with Asuta running away from home I could see that being the overall theme; however one thing is certain Kate has really big dreams for the future and she needs her friends to help her achieve those dreams.

Extra world conquest

sekaaii (3)

The obvious choice is both right?

sekaaii (5)

Not a damn thing.

sekaaii (6)

Kate for moe president~

sekaaii (7)

Kirabosh 2.0?

End thoughts

Whoa now that was a super crazy first episode! It has a lot of amazing things going for it with cool character designs, epic music and super cute voice acting by Misaki Kuno as Kate and of course Kana Hanazawa as a scientist named Natasha! While that is all good I know most of us just want to see where the story goes besides it just being about some little girl that wants to take over the world, but like I said at the start I just want a silly anime and with this episode Sekai Seifuku feels like it wants to be Star Driver because both shows definitely have a cast of colorful characters.

See you next time.

About

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! Other than that type of show, I love a good comedy or action series :D

To use a ANN phrase: “This is paedophile material”.

With that out of the way, I will wait for a few more episodes to see if this has other redeeming features other than an attractive BDSM rori.

Count here so far for winter 2014 is 0. Apart from Log Horizon which I have discovered is actually quite interesting from the LN. Still waiting for the character death…

    • Foshizzel says:

ANN is full of baka’s from what I gather anyway! Their reviews are usually terrible.

I think the outfits are just eye candy material just too draw people into the series; however I don’t think it will dive into OH MY GOD that was so sexual in terms of fanservice but who knows I guess I will be disappointed if it does because this really doesn’t need to be over sexualized IMO.

Log Horizon is great so far even though it can be super slow~

      • skylion says:

Baka they are. I gave up on their reviews a few years ago. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. And most times a LOLi is just a drawing. Well, all the times.

        • Foshizzel says:

I use them for news and trailers! I think since they get a paycheck the reviews feel forced but I understand they can’t be like this was AMAZING and SO COOL! Because there are countless failed anime so I guess its 50/50 for me >.>

  2. MR.KLAC says:

well saw this ep whole little girl want world conquest yet series it went oh my yea so watch it.

yet also why is my instinct is telling me IF series get a dub i’m so predict either monica rial or hilary haag going be kate dub voice?

    • Foshizzel says:

Good good! I liked this first episode~

Ahaha yeah that is so true about Monica and Hilary being the voice of Kate <3

  3. Namika says:

heeeeeeyy, I actually liked this 😀
Initially, I was going to watch this because of Okamura Tensai, though it’s still scary – a loli. That doesn’t always lead to the happiest of places. But I don’t think this one will go that bad anyway. I hope.
All those Russian names xD it’s kinda weird. So is the name of the protagonist – Kate. Kate. Sure rings a bell xDD

    • Foshizzel says:

      Awesome I am glad~

True as long as there are no romantic feelings between the main characters because if that happens I can only see terrible things in the future.

Yeah lots of russian influence in this.

  4. skylion says:

Of course the LOLi Defender is called to duty! (I wonder how long I can keep this tongue in cheek joke going?)

Good show. Not great, but it has the makings of. As you say Fosh, the character design, from the curves (even on the Cake General), to the colors are excellent. And the diversity has something for everyone.

Good call on the theme. I always dig these sorts of “found family” stories.

    But Lincoln?

    • Irenesharda says:

Yeah, I didn’t get the Lincoln reference either until another blogger explained it to me, that she was sort of copying from Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.

I’m also wondering what the balance of the jokes and seriousness will be. The same blogger was talking about how he expected this to be some big comedy about a little girl trying to “take over the world” and it really would just be more of a funny gag thing. However, he was surprised at how serious they took the subject and that Kate was actually going to take over the world.

That short beginning prologue scene in the beginning is what hooked me. That despite the gags, comedy, and jokes, the rest of this show is pretty serious. Kate will one day rule the world and it will bring the planet to desolation and ruin.

It is this journey that I am most interested in.

      • skylion says:

I didn’t think Lincoln was all about conquest. Now some of his generals during the later years of the Civil War…yeah, those guys took it all to the hilt. But they had their marching orders from the CIC. So yeah, bring the dogs to heel.

At this point, I don’t know how serious the theme will get. If it is an expended metaphor from growth and maturity, than that runs a danger of extending to far. With a skillful staff, it can be reigned in.

        • Irenesharda says:

I think the only reference she copied was his famous:

“and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

And she basically replaced the words “government” and “people” with the word “conquest”. In that way she was more ripping off Lincoln and twisting his words for her own gain than any actual copying, but it was a throwaway gag, so whatever…

          • skylion says:

So she really wasn’t ripping off Lincoln, she just took his words and inserted her own paradigm! Yes, the LOLi Defender has reported for duty.

          • Foshizzel says:

Yep I was reading that it wasn’t word for word with Lincoln’s original speech but they just swapped out a few words like Ireneshard said xD

    • akagami says:

I liked the character designs as well… except for Kate’s evil overlord-stripper masquerade uniform. Kate needs some more meat for that type of uniform (⌒▽⌒ゞ

I was re-watching parts of it and I just realized who one of the White Light Heroes is, haha. I’m so slow…〈(゜。゜)

      • Irenesharda says:

Yeah, it’s kind of weird more than cute to see a little girl in that type of outfit. That thing was build for someone with a little more curves. Maybe when you’re older, Kate. 😛

        • skylion says:

I was more worried about her ankles in those heels.

        • BlackBriar says:

I guess she wants it broken in before she grows up to have a feel for it and I have a feeling there’ll be an outfit even more obscene for her by then.

        • Foshizzel says:

Welcome to the world of anime where magical outfits that do not fit with the character! Just like that impossible red and white outfits that Inori wears in Guilty Crown LOL

          • BlackBriar says:

Come on, Fosh!! Inori looked good in what she was wearing. That first dress was beyond sexy. 😀

            • skylion says:

              Indeed, I Love the getup.

I rather like Playma’s outfit. Srs Bsnss.

            • Foshizzel says:

@BB: I didn’t mind seeing Inori run around in that revealing outfit for the first time but afterwards I was like ehh I have seen enough <3

@Skylion: True that! Illya's outfit was crazy but I am sure we are forgetting a lot of strange clothing choices in anime! Wow that sounds like a post idea...

            • skylion says:

Half of the Magi cast looks mix and match…

  5. HannoX says:

I really enjoyed this first episode. It was great fun, but there were also a couple things that showed it could sometimes have real depth to it. The prequel showed Kate’s statue amidst ruins, showing the heavy toll of world conquest. Yet there was also a shining city in the distance so did good come out of that conquest? The second episode was when Kate wondered if there would still be a place for her in a world she had conquered.

    • Irenesharda says:

Actually, I thought those were more ruins in the distance, just with the sun shining on it? And I have a feeling that if it is a new beginning to the Earth, that it’s no longer under the power of Zvezda. It’s just the way the statue looked there, damaged, broken, in the midst of ruins, made me think that Kate’s time is gone by that point, but her impact (the destruction and desolation) still remains.

I felt an ominous shadow fall over that loli’s life, especially after she made that “if I start down this path, there is no going back” statement. 🙁

      • akagami says:

If you look closely, the destroyed area didn’t have any intact buildings, just rubble. But the shining area had tall intact buildings.

  6. d-LaN says:

@Fosh While I think Sasaki Keigo did a good job at adapting the original design for animation use, part of the credit should go to Kouhaku Kuroboshi (Art for Kino Journey LN) who did the original character design.

So…… How does General Pepel eat/drink through his mask again? Or is there an opening in it? Either way he sure is amusing to watch. Also Plamja <3

Btw, t'heck are those…. jelly blobs things? They can apparently turn into something like Tripods… Their page on the official site has "Maybe they will grant a wish when you make a contract?" lolololol

Overall, the whole thing is entertaining/interesting enough to keep me hooked. The choice of BGM on some scenes make me wonder is it OK to take it seriously or laughing though…

PS Index LN readers, does Um/Natasha seems familiar?

    • skylion says:

      Yeah, very familiar.

    • Foshizzel says:

True I should credit the original designer and anime designer…

It must be a magical mask~

Yeah I have no idea what those blob things were I guess they are like the floating creatures from ABK0048? The Kilala or whatever they are called.

The whole OST so far sounds amazing! I can’t wait to get the soundtrack <3

Oh wow yeah they really are very similar indeed.

  7. BlackBriar says:

So basically this a show about “villains” trying to takeover the world and an innocent bystander gets caught in the crosshairs. Nice twist, an excuse to root for the “bad guys” and that loli leader is tough as nails. Plus, of course, the Hanazawa virus has also made its presence known. This looks like fun.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah it seems we will be following the “villains” instead of the “heros” as they fight to take over the world! Wow that sounds like the plot of Pinky and the Brain LOL

Dat Hanazawa Virus is EVERYWHERE! I think we should start developing a up Hanazawa vaccine…

  8. Irenesharda says:

    World Conquest huh?

Well, this series is one that is usually against my better judgement. I’ve never liked lolis has main characters and most of the time they usually come off as annoying brats rather than cute children. The last loli I really liked was Yugiri from The UNLIMITED-Hyoubu Kyousuke of last winter. She actually acted as a really little girl would, and I adored her every second of the way. 😀

Anyway, back on track, as for young Kate here, well, unfortunately she’s in that category of tsundere lolis that I hate, but hopefully she might get better with time. This whole show seems muddled and it’s really confusing in terms of the way all the characters were suddenly presented, in Kate herself and why she seems to have two personas, as to this new future Japan that seems to have some sort of martial law going on. I really wish they had explained this world that Kate is trying to conquer a bit better, and also shown a little more clearly exactly what Zvezda is.

Despite her speech, I really don’t know why Kate is trying to take over the world or what her aim is? And where did these powers come from? And what’s with the weird antennae on her head? Is she an alien? If so, that’s a bit more understandable. I also hope they go into all these other characters and explain why they’re working with her as well, or did they all just wander in like Asuta?

However despite all this confusion, that beginning scene that flashes forward to the future is what really pulled me in. I like how the narrator was speaking about world conquest and the true consequences of such. Yet, despite what he said, it was the world around him that did more talking then he ever could. We can gather that though Kate takes over the world it’s probably not going to end well for her. And in the end, the world lies in complete runes, her statue (she’s definitely older in that pose) is tarnished, weathered, and alone among the rubble.

That beginning if anything is what is getting me to continue this series, if just to see how it ends up that way.

    • Foshizzel says:

      World conquest is awesome~

True that Irenesharda usually loli main characters they come off as being totally bratty and annoying, but at least Kate appears to be more level headed instead of ultra annoying.

LOL yeah she is indeed a tsundere loli

I really don’t know why Kate is trying to take over the world or what her aim is? And where did these powers come from? And what’s with the weird antennae on her head? Is she an alien?

Yeah I hope we get those answers soon…

True the future scenes were great! I can’t wait to see how things turn out.
