Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S – 24 [END]

Saten is ready for the major leagues!

What a sad day for me! My favorite cast of fun characters are saying good bye, but with the lack of a certain sports related arc it gives me hope that we will see another season of Railgun in the future but I know we have to sit through another season of Index before that can happen sadly…

Super powerful ending!

Hang on tight Febri!

HELL YA! GIANT FREAKNG ROBOTS!

When we last left Misaka she was jumping off a building with Febri while all her friends prepare to fight off massive waves of robots! That sounds like the typical way to set up a final episode and JC Staff did an amazing job getting us hyped for the finale, but I know from the start Railgun S has had plenty of ups and downs in the form of lame arcs and this random filler arc at the end; however it managed to keep me entertained for twenty four weeks. So what happened besides Misaka kicking robot ass? For starters this second half has been more about the team coming together for a common goal of saving Febri, but there were a lot of surprise appearances like ITEM arriving to defeat those fake Meltdown robots? I knew STUDY was watching them but I had no idea they were going to create level five powered machines. Speaking of robots what about that giant robot Mitsuko prepared for Saten and Uiharu? Oh my god I loved watching Saten pilot that machine which moved a lot faster than that slow ass Gunpro2 from Robotic;Notes even though in the end Misaka and Kuroko blew it up to save Academy city from being wiped off the planet thanks to that weak attempt to get revenge by STUDY! Seriously what are you even thinking Haruki? At least in the end Shinobu lived along with the adorable twins Janie and Febri who I assume will be living with Shinobu? I almost cried when Saten hugged Febri, but I am really happy with how things ended with Railgun S.

Extra railgun fun

Febri is coming out of your monitors~

railgunz (7)

Take care Febri! We loved having you around this summer.

Best cameo appearance ever!

railgunz (8)

I will miss you most of all Misaka Mikoto…

End thoughts

OH MY GOD what an amazing final episode! It was seriously twenty four minutes of non-stop epicness and of course Saten doing what she does best aka swinging bats and yes even becoming a super ocol mecha pilot! I really need a spin off series with Saten as a mecha pilot! Maybe she can make a cameo appearance in Valvrave s2 or a future Gundam series? Besides Saten being a beast as normal it was great seeing ITEM, Judgement, MISAKA sisters and did anyone else get goose bumps seeing that shot of Last Order and Accelerator in the hospital? I know I did and that tells me we are back in the correct “timeline” as far as Index season two goes and one last thing to mention did Misaki help Misaka at the end cover up everything that STUDY tried to do or did she just wipe out any memories of Shinobu? Either way I wonder how Misaka made that happen, anyway I loved reviewing this series a lot and I will continue to hold my breath for Index season three and a possible Railgun season three as well? Who knows maybe with the success of the Index movie we might get a random one shot Railgun movie? If not that is fine and until then at least we can read the Railgun manga as we wait for that Accelerator manga.

Don’t worry Touma we will see you soon for Index s3.

Tsk, another Railgun season is over. Sad but it was inevitible. For a final episode, so much happened so quick that there was hardly any time to complain about what could’ve been wrong because you’re already thrusted into the next sequence.

As expected, there was a glorious amount of twisted metal and it was fun watching everyone own those powered suits. The robot Mitsuko brought in was the kicker. Her family really filthy, stinkin’ rich. You could tell Misaka and Kuroko were desperate when they almost went into space to stop the missile. Kuroko could’ve hardly breathed. For a machine that could go such a distance, you’d think there would be something close to a space suit in there.

I’m glad things worked out for Shinobu. It seems she got an entirely clean slate after Misaka pulled some strings. She needed some peace of mind after suffering so much and after what’s happened, she’s become a lot more human than she was when the Radio Noise Plan was being carried out and Febri and Janie will keep her company.

With that Accelerator cameo, I’d say the story is already in Index II territory but maybe even before the Daihaseisai because Touma still has the same regular school uniform before getting the blue jacket, orange shirt version when Vento showed up. Though this arc wasn’t in the same standard as the first, Railgun S was great. It doesn’t matter whether it’s more Index or Railgun, just keep them coming.

I feel the same! This episode was non-stop fun that I didn’t even stop to look at the subs for the most part, but I have seen complaints about the “derp anime science” such as Misaka and Kuroko almost reaching space without a special suit or mask? but I don’t really care about tiny things like that b/c its Railgun! The science kind of just happens…

Mitsuko really shines as a surprise character this season next to Febri xD

Yay for Shinobu! Now she gets to live the dream of having two cute blonde loli’s around her all the time and I wonder if Misaka and Saten will ever see them again? Now that I think about it probably not because it was a filler arc.

Right thats what I meant with Accelerator/Last Order appearing we are right around the end of S2 of Index and roughly were the movie picks up if you saw it, but yeah now we wait for more Index before we get any more Railgun!

Hell ya! I hope JC Staff continues to push out more Railgun and Index along with one shot movies <3

      • sonicsenryaku says:

For those people complainig about the science, I think they failed to realize that Mikoto and Uiharu where still below the karman line so they werent truly in outer space. Besides it is possible to be that high up without a suit and still be alive; it’s not like they werent affected by the endeavor either

      • skylion says:

Yeah, I had to make my brain accept that part. The first reaction was Railgun in Spaaaaaaaaace. I kinda like how they took it so close to the edge. Plus that bit where she turned the mech was a great buildup to her Railgunning the damn thing….
        Classic stuff.

        • sonicsenryaku says:

yea, i like the whole demonstration about how she creates the circuit loops to fire her railgun; hopefully this answers any one’s question regarding how exactly mikoto creates the lorentz-factor needed to fire her railgun

    • skylion says:

I don’t think the Mitsuko Mech was meant to go that distance. But, and I’m just floating this. Launching that think to space with her Air Cannon power? If the whole event took place on the day they do Body Scan….did she just Level 6 shift. That is might mighty powerful.

Yes, keep this coming JC Staff. They need to treat this like other studios treat their franchises…or do we really need a 105 episode affair?

      • sonicsenryaku says:

Well her family does run a shuttle business, in which she uses her abilities to launch air crafts; launching that mecha was one of the peaks of her ability.

        • Highway says:

That was something I thought was a nice touch, that showed that using esper abilities is tiring for everyone, that Mitsuko was visibly fatigued when they launched that mech. She’s really come around as a good character for the show.

          • Foshizzel says:

Yep! Mitsuko really shined well in this second half~

          • sonicsenryaku says:

To me Mitsuko has always been a wonderful character because she subverts the ojou-sama troupe. She’s not haughty because she thinks she’s all that and she’s not self-centered or selfish. She cares about her friends more than anything and she is very thoughtful. I was never fooled by her ojou-sama behavior becuz there was always something “off” about it. She acts that way becomes she thinks it would make her worthy of being someone’s friend and not because she just thinks she’s better than others.

            • Foshizzel says:

              Aaannnnd her powers are awesome!

            • skylion says:

It’s also a nice character build that her best friends have powers that all kinda complement each other…I want to see more of that nakama surfing…

      • sonicsenryaku says:

Cant wait for Railgun d so we can see more nakama surfing

    • sonicsenryaku says:

Mikoto has her flower hair clip so it looks like the story actually ended around the 2nd or 3rd of September. This is before daihaiseisai

  2. skylion says:

Goodbye, Academy City, you’ve always been good to me. Bring on the Liberal Arts Arc.

    • Foshizzel says:

Good bye indeed! I will miss all of the fun characters of Railgun and now we wait for Index s3 to get some more Misaka love…

  3. HannoX says:

Wow, just what we were looking for–lots of robots turned into junk! I loved it when Misaka used the mecha with her railgun power to destroy the missile. So she can fire something bigger than a coin. Glad to see that Shinobu got the good ending. After the way she was used in the Level 6 Project and by STUDY she deserved something good happening to her.

Fosh, Misaka told us how she got Misaki to help when she said you can get things done when you surrender your pride (or whatever her exact words were). I took that to mean she literally got down on her knees, put her head to the ground and begged.

I sure hope we get a RAILGUN season 3! I want to see more of Misaka and her friends. And since Saten will never be more than a Level Zero, I’d love to see her pilot a mecha instead. A great idea you had there, Fosh! She’s already shown she has the talent for it.

    • Foshizzel says:

Those robots got so owned and yes Shinobu got a happy ending which is perfect! I loved that scene with Misaka blowing up the missile with the robot xD

Ahhh yeah Misaka probably had to swallow her pride and “bow” before the queen! I wish we got to see that for a little bit of comedy <3

FK YA! More railgun and of course id love to see Saten in a spinoff manga with her as a Mecha pilot hehe

      • skylion says:

…Saten is awesome, and yes she should be front and center, but Uihara has to be “feeling bold” and right behind her when the moment comes to turn the ignition…and by turn the ignition, I mean…

  4. Highway says:

If all of Railgun was like this last arc, it might be one of my favorite shows ever. To me, this was about perfect. I want to see the characters I know and love and am invested in go out there, set their jaws, and kick mucho grande ass. I know that some might not like it, but I’ll take this any day over angst emo whininess dark side stuff.

Well-paced, inclusive, using everyone to their abilities but not asking too much of any one person, this was how an ensemble cast should be used. Yeah, it had a lot of convenient coincidences, but you need to to have a big finale. And what a finale it was: 24 minutes of unbridled awesomeness. Sure, STUDY were fairly cartoonish villains (but let’s be honest, Index / Railgun seems to *only* have cartoonish villains. Psycho-pass it ain’t), but they were more than enough of a credible threat. Aritomi was megalomaniacal enough to carry off a “I’m gonna blow up the whole city!” gambit born from his persecution complex, and it was good to see Shinobu get some validation. She’s a nicely complex character for the series (to me, the fact of Shinobu being ‘sold’ to STUDY is far more indicative of a ‘dark side to Academy City’ than the whole Sisters arc).

It’s not a secret that I think a lot of time was wasted this series retelling the same story we saw before. Seeing the same fight (that wasn’t my favorite before) animated differently doesn’t really do it for me. To me, this last arc made the show. I thought it was well done, and fit the character personalities I wanted to see.

    • skylion says:

The LN’s read just like 1930s pulps. The cartooyness isn’t going away, but the series does have great potential. Kamachi manages to make awesome female characters (can’t wait for Leivinia Birdway.

    • Foshizzel says:

Best ending to a incredible second season and sure there were plot holes and character issues for this entire “filler” arc, but whatever in the end it’s all about the team working together to kick ass while saving the world!

Indeed it was 24 mins of pure amazing <3

Next time we should be clear of any backstories and things like that and as Skylion has said before we have a lot of side stories to get through like the Liberal Arts and others! Sadly we have to sit through 24 weeks of Index s3 whenever that gets created.

  5. d-LaN says:

Best finale of the season. Dem OP insert and the actiona.

I’m amused that they managed to make the Endymion plot related.
