“Why aren’t you psychically able to know my preferences?!”

I wish I could say that I made progress on the game, but I’m afraid that the world lost me to Rune Factory 4 since last week, so I haven’t even glanced at my PSP. …Which is also why this post is awfully late. I swear I’ll get one out within a reasonable time (eventually). OTL

Well, this was certainly… something. Maybe because it was Laito’s episode (for the most part), but this felt more like a horror anime than a romance one (rapish scene aside). That scene with the telephone booth. Though like someone else brought up on an earlier post, if Yui is that desperate to leave, why doesn’t she ask to borrow someone’s cell phone? It’s not like they watch her 24/7, from the looks of it. Why is she suddenly so desperate to leave? Whatever happened to Shu ‘owning’ her? Why wasn’t Shu even in the episode? …I have so many questions, though most of them could probably be answered with: “Shu just doesn’t give a damn”. I don’t even know what Yui is doing. Her resistance level is still rather high at least, and she made a valiant attempt to escape this episode. Though of course, the whole thing ended in failure for her.

Believe it or not, Laito wasn’t lying to Yui at all. Yui’s father had every intention on leaving her at the Sasamaki household from the beginning (due to reasons) and she’s been pretty much abandoned by the church at this point. If the phone had managed to connect to the right place, the church would have just told her that they can’t help her (or at least, that’s what happened in the game). I don’t know if the anime will go into this or not, but the church somewhat regularly sends ‘brides’ to the vampire household, so Yui’s not even the first one. It’s rather appropriate that they’re mentioning this in Laito’s episode, since his was the route where they infodumped all of this plot about the church and the other brides. …Though note how there doesn’t seem to be any trace of them now.

Those are some mood-convenient church decorations

Oh, right. And for whatever reason, the vampires in this series all turn weird around a full moon. Maybe ‘weird’ isn’t the best term here, but they definitely become less… restrained (if they can be considered restrained in the first place) in their actions. Though I guess it varies from brother to brother. Laito became quite like he was in the episode her, even though he’s normally like that anyways for the most part, but I vaguely remember Ayato’s irritability increasing and Kanato jumping off of a balcony. Kanato was fine of course, since he’s a vampire, but it worried the hell out of Yui (and then she got called “annoying” for her concern). Anyways, long story short the brothers become even worse around the full moon for whatever reason.

Though if you’re wondering about Kanato being affected by the moon, he’s always like he was shown this episode. Yes, his personality is the main reason why I talk about Kanato so much. He’s extremely unreasonable. How is Yui supposed to know that she’s unworthy of addressing Teddy? How is Yui supposed to know that he likes hates coffee and sweet things? Well, maybe she could have figured it out from the way he acts way younger than he actually is, but Yui in general is absolutely terrible at picking up on what will make Kanato angry, so food preferences seem out of the question. I don’t know what it is about him though, but I find Kanato’s unreasonable-ness hilarious.  …Where for some reason, I felt really angry over almost the exact same thing happening with the ore-sama character in Ijiwaru My Master.

There was a surprising amount of plot this episode, but it was mostly just pointing out the Yui might be more abnormal/abandoned than she thinks she is. Laito’s certainly noticed. Probably more than any of the other brother’s have. There was also the part with Richter (the green-ish haired man. I (probably) spoil nothing by giving out his name, so I’m just going to use it) having a woman’s dress stored in a secret passage or something. …I have quite a few questions about that (mostly because I could have sworn that the body it was on was burned to ashes), but for the most part, it’s pretty funny. I have doubts that what it’s on is the body itself, since like I said above, it was burned and it’s ashes are currently being used. Unless the anime doesn’t plan on using that plot point, which would be a shame.

What?! No flashback of any kind this episode?! Kanato and Laito have some of the most awful interesting back stories too… Well, hopefully they tell them later, since it would explain a LOT about the two characters. I’m glad they aren’t going for the guy of the week ‘owning’ Yui and all fighting over her. Hell, they even seem to be heading away from the ‘guy of the week’ thing too, since Kanato had a rather large part this episode. …Er, I guess it was short, but still large considering that these episodes are really short to begin with.

Anyways, this was definitely one of the darker episodes (which was still rather light compared to the game). I hope it stays this way, since the horrible things that happened were the appeal in the first place. From everything I’ve heard about Reiji’s character, any episode with him should be fun. And I don’t even think I need to go on anymore about Kanato.

Okay, it was kinda funny how Raito was all like”I will destroy you” and stuff and he was just… biting her -_- come on. Really? I expected this anime to be a lot more cruel and sadistic, but it’s not. Though I enjoyed the idea of Raito ‘violating’ her in the church. Yes, I’m bad like that 😀
Kanatoo~ Kanatooo~ that wasn’t nearly enough to satisfy my interest in him. I want moar.

One thing is certain about Laito, he likes to play with and torment Yui at every turn. So far, the other guys are just straight to the point. It’s the first time seeing Yui get bitten other than her neck so I’m wondering where else she’s going to be drained. There’s a lot of places: The neck, the muscle on the shoulder blade, the wrist, the leg and if you’ve seen Queen of the Damned, there’s the chest.

        BB, you’re vampire trivia always amazes me lol. Even I’m not that crazy about werewolves/werebeats despite being quite fond with them ^_^;

        • BlackBriar says:

Hahaha!! Thanks for the compliment. That’s why I’m titled “Vampire Lover”. I wear it proudly. You can take the little info as enlightenment as to where vampires like to bite. Also, I remember a part in Shiki where an old lady was bitten multiple times in different places and as a result, she was drained dry in one shot.

        • Namika says:

Yeah, he seems to be more of a sadist.
And the trivia is interesting, too. I wonder, how can she function normally. I imagined her getting all weak because of anemia.

    • d-LaN says:

Well, blame the PG-13 tag I guess?

I guess I’m not the only one who find the faux symbolism amusing.

You know, I’ve been noticing Kanato is in every single preview so far. Please don’t tell me he will be the main guy later on. Or are they going to pull a School Days? Its a mystery.

      • Karakuri says:

YES. I would love if they did the ending where Show ▼

      • Namika says:

Yeah, but I can’t help but think why did they make it a PG-13 show, even though the original material is much darker and more mature.

      • BlackBriar says:

This seems a little extreme for a PG-13 tag.

    • Karakuri says:

Yeah. Though from her reactions, Yui probably feels rather destroyed. I’m looking forward to Reiji and Kanato’s episodes in regards to watching Yui suffer. Though maybe Kanato will be ‘dere’ by then.

I think the next episode looks like Kanato’s “I find death really attractive. You should die, Yui-san.” rant (or maybe they’re in the graveyard for a different reason), so hopefully there’s more of him.

      • Namika says:

        Kanato? Dere??? O_O
Reiji is like a dark horse, or a closet sadist. I wonder, what is his dark side like… it’s kinda fun than everyone seemingly ignores Subaru. I imagine him being a downright tsundere 😀 and I kinda like his design the most out of them all.

Seems like I’ll be getting more Kanato next week. I really want to see how Yuki Kaji handled him.

        • d-LaN says:

Yuki Kaji role as Kanato reminds me of Emo/PMS Shoe to be honest.

        • Karakuri says:

…Or at least, kind of dere considering his previous attitude of “leave me alone, you’re annoying” and then shouting whenever Yui does anything to piss him off (which is pretty much everything). You know it’s happened when Yui is allowed to touch Teddy.

  2. BlackBriar says:

Someone turned up the horror element here. This episode was better than the ones with Ayato and Shu because even though Laito has a flamboyant flair, he brought a lot of menace in tow. The part where his voice got the moment he wondered was watching him on the roof, I was like “Whoa, what the hell? Does this guy have a split personality?”. You could feel the despair and helpless for Yui when he answered that payphone. But how did he even get the number for it? He did somewhat lie to her when he said he knows everything about her even though he asked who she really was after she suddenly utter the name “Karl Heinz” and passed out.

It’s a myth that a full moon brings out the full instincts of nighttime creatures and it’s also supposed to be a period where vampires are most overcome with bloodlust so there wouldn’t be any restraint because I imagine their mental state would deteriorate from their nerves being on fire. You basically have an idea of what happens if a vampire gets too hungry: They become feral beasts until they’ve had their fill and calmed down. Something that would’ve happened in Trinity Blood if Ion did went ahead and drank Esther’s blood.

So the church regularly sends ‘brides’ to the vampire household. Now I’m wondering if the respective mothers of the brothers were in the same situations of being offerings to their father and were originally human like Yui. It wouldn’t be much of a stretch if it were the case. The father to the Sakamaki brothers didn’t look like what I thought he would. I was thinking an appearance that flaunts everything he’s gained, a kind of narcissistic figure, not a political one. But if he is in politics, he might have a plan where the vampires would have full control of the city.

    • Karakuri says:

Laito knows everything about Yui’s life, but not everything about her body. …Which sounds more perverted than I mean it to, but I don’t know how else to put it. It’s not Yui’s everyday life and how she’s lived until now that’s special about her, but something to do with her body itself.

Oh, okay. I was wondering about that since it seemed more werewolf-y than vampire-y.

Nah, I’m pretty sure that the mothers of the Sakamaki brothers are all vampires to begin with. Though one of them was definitely as reluctant as Yui is. I could be wrong, but I’m just assuming because Kaaaaaarl is kind of like the king of vampires or whatever and one of his wives was a daughter of a “Maou” as they put it (she was definitely a vampire, so I don’t know if that means that just means that her father was just super powerful or what; if they explained that in detail, I missed it or haven’t gotten that far yet).

  3. d-LaN says:

Welp, my NOPE button is finally been pressed. Took them long enough to do it XD

I dunno abt the borrow a phone frm some1 else thing. You really can’t do much when you have near-teleporting vampires who can kill you at a snap of their fingers. Don’t want to risk death there. As for her suddenly ran away, I guess she kinda snapped.

Now this is interesting. So Yui is indeed abandoned and there are other maidens who got sent to the vampire house in the past. And what up with the random name dropping part? Do we have some sort of reincarnation/amnesia stuff going on? Things kinda finally get interesting.

I thought the guy that appeared in the OP/the end of the episodes is their manwhore dad but it looks it isn’t? Or are they the same person since the guy in the TV have convenient light beam obscuring his face :V

    • Karakuri says:

All it took was Laito being himself and having screentime. xD

Yeah, I guess you’re right. I wonder if this will be a turning point for Yui or something. You know, into do-M territory since she definitely can’t escape.

Oh right, you said that you stopped reading the game summary. xD Uh, it’s kind of close with those guesses, but at the same time, not really. I don’t even fully understand how what happened is possible (not the concept, but how it was done) when they explained it in the game, but LOL this is a plot about magic vampires and to hell with logic.

Nope. The father and the person in the OP are totally different people. Both are rather important to the plot, but for some reason, Karl never even had a character sprite in the game (as far as I’ve played, though I’ve finished 2 routes completely).

  4. EdBunny says:

You know I dont quite understand. This anime would be good without that Pg 13 tage stuck up there. Come on they made things like Hellsing and Trinity Blood. And that one anime with girls on film as the theme song. I think this anime would be better if they rating was more mature, imo. Rip her, more blood. More sadistic. All though I admit this epsidoe was the best out all of them, it made me uncomfortable in the church and I felt feelings

    • Karakuri says:

I don’t know why they went with the PG13 either, since it’s Cero C in Japan (around 15+). Maybe this is to ease possible fangirls into buying the games there instead of scaring them off, but they’re going to be in for a hell of a surprise if they were expecting something as light as the anime here.
