Remember, don’t overindulge on a date
As the season is winding down, and every show is up over 10 episodes, it’s inevitable that people will start looking ahead (even if I’m not the type to do that). But the counter to that is some hopefully great endings to anime that are already being shown, and one that might have a really good payoff is Servant x Service. With so many relationships up in the air, will any of them take that last step before the end of the series?
Lucy Around the Office
Let’s go!
Lucy spends the first half of the episode traveling around the office because she realized that since Hasebe’s confession to her, she hasn’t really talked to him. So of course, it’s a little awkward around the office. But Lucy is nothing if not earnest, so she is going to do her best to straighten things out.
“No, don’t say that you think I’m special!”
And after a bit of a diversion trying to find the accidentally-sold-at-the-bazaar section manager, where everyone chips in to find the stuffed bunny, but in the worst possible places to look (trash bin, microwave, file drawer, drink machine?), Lucy finally gets to talk to Hasebe, when he finds her eating her usual punishment lunch (plain pasta, bread crusts). And she gets a chance to explain that she’s never really been around boys, having avoided them because of her name, and then going to a girls high school and community college. So she’s really uncomfortable around him. But the telling part of their conversation is when Lucy insists that she’s not special, and that Hasebe has to be nice to everyone. Can she get over herself before their date and realize that Hasebe really does think she’s special, and that she deserves his attention and possible love?
Miyoshi Out on the Town
Destroying co-workers all over town
I like that the show is using Miyoshi a bit more, even if it is for highlighting the foibles of the rest of the characters. This time, she uses her day off to go out to the city to try to relax, but ends up running into all her co-workers. And of course, she earns her ‘Destroyer of Men’ reputation again. With arrows through the heart of both Hasebe – “If you have enough time to play an unfulfilling eroge, why not ask Yamagami-san out on a date?” – and Taishi, the latter with a killing spree of four straight questions about his “girlfriend”. And the parting shot of “Please take care of your girlfriend.”
Taishi and Yutaka are no match for Miyoshi
But worse is that the next day is her dinner with Jyouji. She does her best avoiding drinking the glass of wine she’s poured, but gets quite tired of Jyouji talking about Hasebe. Encouraging him to talk about something else, all he can come up with is “Portfolio Management Services”. He really doesn’t have much else in his life. Too bad that makes Miyoshi forget about not drinking, and she promptly passes out from just one sip. That’s quite a lightweight. But for some reason, after she wakes up, maybe she’s feeling more regrets, or maybe she’s just realizing that Jyouji’s not that bad, and agrees to go out with him again sometime. Could this actually turn into something more? I doubt it, because Jyouji is still Jyouji, whose only actual good quality is that he’s “responsible”.
Plus, the guy drinks like a fish
While I was a little disappointed that we haven’t gotten to the big date yet, we did get some more between Lucy and Yutaka, and it was fun to watch. Now she just needs to be more comfortable with herself. She’s a much nicer girl than she realizes, and deserves someone who’s sincere and nice, like Yutaka really is (contrary to what Megumi might say about him).
Speaking of Megumi, you wonder if she got the chance to finally tell Tohko about her and Taishi. I’m thinking ‘no’, yet again. But could Miyoshi’s fire lit under his butt actually galvanize him into action and get him to be better with Megumi? Ha! Yeah, right. Poor Megumi.

I don’t see a real curtain closing the next episode. But it’s the rest of the play that is the thing.
I think Megumi’s actions during her day off reflect most of it, “where the heck is your confidence?” is what she is saying. But that comes from experience, which the characters give themselves little of.
We are promised the love, we stay for the pratfalls.

Unfortunately, the experience of Working!! would indicate that we probably won’t get anything definitive on the romance front.
The only character who shows any confidence, as unlikely as it is, is Lucy. And that’s only when she’s not confronted with guys.

Yep, Working! Pretty much the same thing. Well, there’s no Yamada. It needs Yamada.

That’s where we’d have to differ. I didn’t like when they introduced Yamada to the show at all. This will sound weird, but I actually think Tohko brings more to SxS than Yamada did for Working!!. Yamada was strictly comic relief in my eyes, and a pretty transparent and clownish, and therefore ineffective, attempt at it. And because she had to do wacky antics, it took time away from stuff I’d actually want to see.
There are many trope aspects I’d assign to Yamada, none of them particularly nice.

Considering all the unlikely places they were looking when searching for the section manager, I got the feeling they weren’t really trying to find him.
It’d be nice to have at least one of these relationships evolve before the end of the show, and I don’t mean MiyoshiXJyouji! She deserves much better than him.

I can’t say I wouldn’t do they same thing either. After all, it’s a stuffed bunny and if it came down to it, it might actually force the real section manager to show up in the flesh.

They weren’t in no way trying to find him. Absolutely no effort and in the places no one would go even if they are a stuffed bunny. To me, it was like they were aimlessly looking around so no one would say they didn’t care and go back to whatever was occupying them beforehand.

Summer truly is coming to an end. There are series that have either already ended or on their way out and this series has two episodes left. Knowing there are two left, I have a bad feeling the relationship parts are going to rushed to an unacceptable level to save time. So far, nothing has truly progressed and it would do some good if everyone had more breathing room. The most interesting couple I want to see develop is the one between Megumi and Ichimiya.
Lucy is such a sucker for books that I’d pair her up with Kazuhito from InuHasa while he was human in a heartbeat. Though in Lucy’s case, she takes things to extremes if she’s willing to starve to save money in order to buy books.
Honestly, it’s in everyone’s best interest to avoid having conversations with Lucy and Miyoshi at all costs. There’s so much unintended verbal abuse and condescending talk a person can take. I feel sorry for Hasebe and Ichimiya enduring such heinous torture. Hasebe got lucky but Ichimiya got overkill. There was even a bell sounding off a knockout. 😀
