Time for the new Demon Priests show!
Let’s get into some action this week! For this episode DxD New really ramped it up, and moved the plot into a much bigger arena.
Finding Freed
Koneko says it’s time for Issei to fight
Yeah, that jerkoff Freed Zalzan is back, but this time he’s a lot more powerful, and he seems to have more powerful friends. Oh, and he’s got 3 Excalibur swords. So when Kiba and Issei try to fight him, after tracking him down, they only keep it to a draw. But what’s worse is that Balba, the guy who came up with the experiment that killed all of Kiba’s friends, and almost killed him, is the guy behind Freed’s newfound armaments. But faced with 6 opponents they retreat, with Kiba, Xenovia and Irina in pursuit.

But for Issei, Koneko, and Saji, they don’t quite get away fast enough, and are caught at it by Rias and Souna (in truth, they’d had Akeno and Tsubaki keeping an eye on them the whole time). One of my favorite lines in the LN was used here, with Souna’s “They have their ways, I have mine!” as she’s magically spanking Saji. And while Issei thinks he and Koneko are getting off with a hug, Rias isn’t THAT forgiving.

It’s hard to complain too much, tho, when what he’s got to come home to is Asia in hadaka apron. And Rias, acknowledging Asia’s jump on her, congratulates her for a job well done, but gets Issei’s mom (yeah, that’s right, Issei’s MOM) to get her the same type of ‘clothes’. I’ve said before how much I like the way they are working the fanservice into the show, and this was another good example, I think. Yes, it’s pretty blatant, but it works as a break between the fight with Freed and the crisis coming up, without distracting from either one.
The Plot Thickens

Cheesy, I know, but it can’t just be rogue Balba and Freed being jerks with the Excaliburs, there’s gotta be a bigger thing going on, doesn’t there. And this time, it’s a potential war between Heaven, Hell, and Earth, which Fallen Angel Kokabiel wants to start, well, because he’s bored. But he definitely wants to drag the Demons and Angels into it, that’s why he’s accumulated the Excaliburs, since the Angels can’t stand to have holy swords in the hands of the Fallen Angels. But he’s going to get the Demons to start the war, on their own turf, by threatening their town. But this is also the third most powerful Fallen Angel, assisted by Freed, Balba, and multiple Excaliburs. Rias and Souna are strong, but probably not enough to really resist. We’ll just have to see how it plays out.

Again, the plot is moving along nicely, looking like they might wrap up this storyline in the first half of the series. And yet, the series just doesn’t skimp on the fanservice, finding logical ways to fit it in, even nice moments with Issei and Rias and Asia. But I think we’re definitely going to get more action coming up in the next couple of episodes.

DxD deserves a medal in its prowess to balance action with a good plot and all out fanservice giving the viewers the best of both worlds. In my opinion, it does it a lot better compared to Hagure Yuusha no Estetica.
As I said before, Asia is gradually losing her innocence the more she competes with and the fact she unleashed the naked apron trick and getting Rias to admit losing ground proves my point since Rias is effortlessly erotic. The surprise is that Issei’s mom approves and went along with it and says it’s like he has two wives. That statement alone confirms she’s alright with it should polygamy ever become a topic. Issei, you lucky bastard!!!
Thanks to an insatiable warmonger, a big battle is on the way and it’s safe to say it wouldn’t be farfetched if at least half the city gets torn apart. I just hope the Gremory clan catches and kills Freed. I’m still seething after what he did to Asia last season and him scaring her now made me even more pissed. It’s beyond me how a guy like him ever became an exorcist and he deserves death as much as the fallen angel Raynare who killed Issei.

I definitely think it strikes that balance better than anything else. The only shows I think are even on the same map, that I’ve seen, are the mentioned Hagure Yuusha, TLR Darkness, and Sekirei. And none of those have as good a plot (nowhere close), or integrate the ecchi and fanservice into the plot nearly as well as DxD. Nor do they show the character development that DxD shows (Sekirei’s actually best of the rest at this, imo).
There’s some influence over Issei’s parents from Rias’s demonic powers, but thankfully it’s not really presented as brainwashing anymore (like it was first presented).

Hagure Yuusha ended on a cliffhanger so it’s possible that another season is in the works because closing the story like that is an ugly way to go about it.

To show how far Asia is falling into debauchery, Rias said she could even pass for a Succubus and that’s the most perverted demon known in the occult. I’m amazed she still manages to retain that innocent personality of hers.
A thousand spanks on the rear end for disobeying a master. Wow, these demons sure have a deep S&M relationship between master and servant. If I had to choose a side, I’d go with Rias. If she has to put her foot down, it won’t be that intense but Koneko shouldn’t get any special treatment otherwise it’s unfair. Sona seems to pride herself on the parts that concern punishment and that’s pretty scary to think about. From Saji’s expressions, I’d say he gets that often.

Well, remember that Asia does those things *only* for Issei. It’s not her general personality to be like that, and I don’t know if it ever will be.
If you really cross Rias, you will not forget it, or maybe you will because you’ll be dead. Souna is a lot stricter in the margin, but I think if you pushed both of them to far, it would not be pretty for you.

Did the LN ever specify how Yuuto came to be involved with the Holy Sword experiments as a child?
Like, was he a Church orphan conscripted into the experiments, or did his parents/guardians volunteer him? Or did he volunteer himself as a child?

He’s most likely an orphan. Nothing was mentioned in the LNs about his life before the experiment.
All that was said is that the Church took in boys and girls who were talented at swords and had a Sacred Gear.

Maybe there’s something about it in volume 15 as that’s also another side story volume and it details more about Kiba’s meeting with Rias.
Now that I said that, I now wonder why they would let Kiba in the project when his Sacred Gear is one that creates demonic swords. They did send Asia away when her SG can heal devils as well. Is it because his SG is creating swords and most likely that can make him compatible to holy swords?
Oh well, minor details.

Well, this is just speculation on my part, but with Balba the one who was in charge of the (secret) Holy Sword compatibility project, I would imagine that the origin of Kiba’s Sword Birth wasn’t really a factor. The other speculation would be that when Kiba became a demon, his Sword Birth ability changed to produce demonic swords. I thought they did mention that his ability is somewhat born out of his experience.

All cheers for this; a perfect balance of plot and fanservice and characterization. I just wish they would do more with Koneko, as she will always be a favorite of mine.
Do Fallen Angels have nothing better to do with their time? Get out of bed, plot downfall of humanity, eat breakfast, execute revenge on the heavens, drive to work, start unlimited Armageddon, lunch, answer emails, massage therapy, put out all the fires, go to bed….
I look forward to the gang figuring out how to get all the sides working together and delivering a curb stomp.

I really haven’t read further LN’s, but I’d have to think that there’s some Koneko focused story in the novels. The anime is on LN 3, and will probably get to LN 4 this season. I don’t know what 4 is, but I’d imagine Koneko’s in there somewhere.

Unfortunately, Koneko won’t get a focus this season. Pray for a 3rd season as she has one in there definitely.
Nah, they fly to work. Have to get those wing muscles working or else they’ll cramp. Especially this guy who has 10 wings. Aside from that, sounds about right I guess. There should be a ‘play tricks to the humans’ in there somewhere as they probably get some kicks out of that.

Good news though is that you’ll get a glimpse of it in the following episodes as they’ll drop some hints here and there about her.

I couldn’t afford the images, but I loved that when they focused on Rias and Akeno, and then Souna and Tsubaki, Akeno had that usual grin, while the others were all super serious.
And if Rias really wanted to punish Issei… she’d have Akeno dish out his punishment.

Yeah, Rias could have sent Akeno out on Issei and he would have been traumatized for who knows how long but because he’s her favorite

I don’t think it’s a secret or a spoiler to say that I think Rias has been interested in Issei since episode 1 when she looked out her window and saw him as part of the Pervert Trio. Who knows why, maybe he really is super cute. But even after that, he’s definitely grown, no longer taking advantage of his ‘kawaii minion’ status. Rias never had the attitude of “You’re terrible, but your sacred gear is great, so I’ll make you my minion.”

Aside from her my favourite char is most definitely Freed He’s just awesome and his personality is the best, I’m a sucker for having crazy bastards as favourites, they’re just too fun! of course no one car surpass Jiraya(from Naruto…I know it’s too pop for us but, i simply like his char too much) he’s a super pervert! That was one of the top 10 sayings of Anime for me, i wish i could just go around and shout in the middle of the city or a pool “I’M A SUPER PERVERT!

Huh? But Akeno has already worn a dominatrix outfit and she was damn sexy in it, too. It was on one of the extra episodes for season one (OVA 2 or episode 14 if you prefer) before the second one started. It was while she was carrying out her contracts with clients while watching over and teaching Issei and Asia how to complete theirs since they were still newborn demons that needed to be broken into the Gremory clan’s traditions.
