Misaka is in need of a recharge

Welcome back Railgun S fans to another action themed episode because last week ended with Meltdowner wanting to challenge Misaka to a one on one fight after discovering her true identity, but how will things play out this time? I can’t wait to see what happens this time!

Misaka on the run!

Meltdown? More like Shutdown~

Shields up Misaka you got this!

After facing off against Frenda, Rikou and Shizuri last time pretty much wore Misaka out along with her electromaster powers because she was constantly using her abilities to avoid danger; however this episode followed a one on one battle of tactics instead a battle of raw power. I thought it was really hilarious that Frenda did not take care of the left over bomb filled dolls! Also it was awesome seeing how Misaka could use her powers to launch the dolls like missiles which gave her the upper hand especially with the doll that she used to knock Shizuri out with? Damn if you think about it Frenda actually helped Misaka in the end but of course that was all for comic relief purposes to cause Frenda to freak out at the possibility of Shizuri kicking her ass later! So what did you think of the epic battle this week? Personally I would rank this one episode a bit higher because last week we had a bit of story progression hinting at Last Order thanks to Shinobu doing her science stuff, but it does help to be reminded of the chain of events found in Index and Railgun and were you waiting for Touma or Kuroko to arrive and save Misaka? I mean as cool as that would have been I am super thankful that no one magically appeared to interfere and speaking of Touma I will admit I was quite happy to see him appear at the end of this episode struggling with the vending machine. I think this is technically the first time Misaka meets Touma after he lost his memories after helping Index, but I really love what J.C. Staff is doing with this series so far in terms of connecting all the seasons together.

Extra fun with Railgun S

End thoughts

Not a bad episode since roughly everything seemed to be about the crazy fight between Misaka and Meltdowner! I was surprised while watching the two of them fight because it didn’t appear that one character was over powering the other character especially with the gap in level five rankings, but at the same time of course we all knew that Misaka would win that fight; however it is always HOW she wins that keeps me coming back for more and this week showed us once how resourceful Misaka can be if she is running low on power. I have to give another high five to J.C. Staff for doing a fantastic job once again with the action moments along with the kick ass soundtrack? I really love the music during those OH MY GOD moments! So what are you hype for next time? I am curious to see more Touma and Misaka interaction in the future of Railgun S.

I felt this was a very satisfying end to a great arc. And the ultimate moment was handled not with a Railgun, but with a simple spark. Misaka, you got the smarts, the looks, the power, the Gekota, and clones. Super-awesome. (I wounder if hydrogen could stop electricity?)

But we know there is more to come. I’ve enjoyed this new take on the Sister’s Arc. But I would like to see it become even more personal. The pairing of Touma and Misaka is an interesting one, but they’ve never done much with it, and lot’s of it feels rather anti-climatic. IOW I would like to see Touma reveal a few more feelings, he has to have something to balance the eventual drop-kick he gets from A Certain Yuri Teleporter…

    Ah, Frenda, you lovable goof.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yep after Misaka fights Meltdowner I guess that wraps up part one of the sisters arc and that means we are due for some filler for a few episodes, but that is fine because I have really missed Saten, Kuroko, Uiharu and hopefully more Touma xD

Yep Frenda is the best <3

Yes, more friendship filler anime! My daily allowance of skirt-flipping scenes is running short…

        • Foshizzel says:

haha amen brother! We need moar skirt flippage~

I’m in and if anyone else joins in agreement, we’re all going to sink with this ship.

            • skylion says:

              That’s alright! It’s airtight, BB!

            • BlackBriar says:

Alright but just to be sure. Somebody go get some life boats! Women, children and Vampire Lovers first!

            • skylion says:

Leaving the LOLi lover to go down with the ship? Ah, such is honor….

That’s the thing; the interactions between Toma and Mikoto is more fanservice than anything else. Kamachi likes the idea of Mikoto and Toma teaming up to battle and bickering like close friends but im pretty sure he is not that keen on having them being an item (no pun intended). As much as I like Mikoto (I find her to be the most well-developed character of the entire Index/Railgun Series). I personally perfer Index and Toma because you can truly feel the chemistry in their interactions and you can see how much Toma cares for Index even if it isnt heavily romanticized. As you so well put it, they’ve never done much with the interactions between Toma and Mikoto, which only helps my argument that both of them on-screen is for the sake of fanservice (though who knows, that could always change). Besides I think Kamachi intends for Index to be the one for Toma and if that ends up being the case i have no problems with that as i personally agree with that idea.

If I’m being a wag, I don’t mind Touma and Index either, because it maroons Index where I don’t have to deal with her. 😉

Granted I only watched the first series of Index, but the relationship I got between them was more that Touma treated Index like his little sister, or little cousin or niece. It always felt completely non-romantic, and perhaps that ramps up later, but it would be quite the shift from what I was used to.

To that end, to me it feels like a couple with Touma and Mikoto would be much more equal and on the same level.

        • skylion says:

I don’t think you are being a wag, but you do put the fine point to the Index x Touma relationship. She doesn’t feel the same thou. Her’s are much deeper and would be restrained if not for the biting…which is like kissing, only there is a winner.

But yes, Misaka and Touma are a great bickering couple; and they do spend much more time together later in the LNs. I just hope they don’t take it to horrible heights of bickering, just to maintain status quo…

  2. BlackBriar says:

A passable ending in my opinion because I knew if the fight dragged on, Misaka would have been killed for sure. The best thing about the Index/Railgun universe is that they strategize before engaging their enemy, pay mind to their surroundings and use whatever resource left to them to pull out a win. Meltdowner had the upper hand since Misaka was exhausted so she was pretty much overpowering her. We’ll be seeing Mugino again soon enough.

Misaka and her sweet naïveté thinking the experiment’s over. If the data is gone, you have to consider the fact it’s saved somewhere else and things are just going to continue at another place. The thing about these cold, calculating bastards is that they’re persistant with their obscure goals. What concerns me now is what will happen to Shinobu.

With what you said above about Touma losing his memories, I speculate the next episode, though being a filler, is leading to the bridge scene between Touma and Misaka before Touma decides to confront Accelerator.

    • belatkuro says:

True. Raildex fights aren’t about powerlevels but compatibilities, situational encounters, use of tactics and a bit of luck. Touma is the most notable example, though people mostly wave him off as just a plot hax person.
What people conveniently forget is that IB’s range is limited only to his fist and making use of it to fight espers and magicians despite that limitation is a nod to his skill(and a little bit of stupidity on the enemies’ part).

And while it’s true that the data will still exist somewhere, Misaka thought that because the last company cannot continue even with those around and has filed for bankruptcy, the experiment is over. She’ll learn the hard way that she was dead wrong.

Next episode is not a filler. That’s the starting point of the Sisters arc in Index and it’s the same thing as well in the manga. We’ll probably get there in ep13 as ep12’s title is “Tree Diagram”

    • skylion says:

Sweet naivete? It doesn’t just end there, does it? It leads to the moment that my heart truly went out to the character, when she makes a very life altering decision. Touma was good for more than just Imagine Breaker in those scenes….

  3. Gecko says:

I loved that Misaka knocked Meltdowner out with the doll. The use of the dolls was great, considering it gave a bit of comic relief (a needed break between all these battles) and got Misaka to her goal in the end.

Hopefully, we’ll get more the other girls in the last few episodes… I miss the group fun.
