Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai S2 – 11

He knows what's up

Don’t want this to happen to you? Then read this post!

spring13-highwWhile OreImo continues to set many people on the path of rage at the seemingly increasing possibility of a Kyousuke and Kirino ending, we get this week’s episode with a cavalcade of characters. So what happens when Kyousuke moves out of the house?

Kicked Out, Moved Out, What’s the Difference?

Mom's getting suspicious

When you leave the evidence around, someone’s going to find it.

Mom finally found the love sticker that they made on their ‘date’, cause Kirino left it on the refrigerator after Kyousuke put it there. Neither are the sharpest tool in the shed, are they? So Dad’s remedy is to move Kyousuke out into another place, an apartment of his own. Why he thinks that if there are sexy shenanigans going on between those two it’s a good idea to give them a whole new place outside of their house to do them in is a good idea is beyond me, but ok, sure. And sure enough, Kirino has the ability to pop in whenever, along with giving him a refrigerator. They sure are conspicuous with the pricey gifts, aren’t they?

Parade of Babes

Kyousuke loves being dominated

He doesn’t get into these situations with Kuroneko…

But it’s not just Kirino who’s got a key to his place. She gave one to Ayase, too (why? So she can sneak in and kill him in his sleep?). And she brings a fitting housewarming gift: a kitchen knife. Honestly, my first thought seeing that was “that’s pretty typical for Ayase” and my second thought was “So is that how she gets the murder weapon to the scene of the crime?” And the murdering might happen a lot faster than we think, because Kuroneko shows up while Ayase’s there. This really was the funniest part of the season so far, with Kuroneko declaring her undying love for Kyousuke and Ayase declaring her… not really understanding what she feels for Kyousuke. The battle between the two really was entertaining, and once again it felt like Kuroneko came out on top, mainly because she knows what she wants, and sees a path there. How much was she joking about shoving Kyousuke and Kirino into bed to get it, tho?

Sparks fly

The face off

 Kanako is the dimmest bulb

Kanako is not that bright.

It took HOW long for her to figure it out?

It’s hard to believe that Kanako and Kanata are related. As observant and helpful and understanding as Kanata was with Saori, Kanako is… not. She’s seen Kyousuke in three different guises, and only picked up on the fact that he was Kirino’s brother after Bridget said something (poor Bridget looked so confused). And are they really doing that good of a job to keep Kirino’s otaku side a secret? Maybe, although it’s hard to believe because all we see is that side. It occurs to me that Kirino might be a much more likable character if we saw that school side that Ayase talked about more often. Is she compensating for feeling so penned in at school, and that’s why she dominates Kyousuke so much? Is that really her true nature in contrast to her supposed school personality? I generally don’t believe in the idea that people have a ‘true’ nature and then fake ones, just different ones for different situations. We react to the things around us. And I think it’s pretty obvious that Kyousuke likes being dominated. No, he’s not a Shimono Hiro character, but he sure doesn’t try to NOT get in those situations.

She just can't resist her 'urges'

It’s already murderin’ time!

Did this episode really set up the Kirino x Kyousuke ending? I think it’s a possibility, and I think it’s probably more of a possibility than it has been before. But I also realize that this is talking about teenagers. Even if this show ends with Kirino and Kyousuke together, who knows what kind of couple that portends, or how long that will last? There are lots of reasons that teen romances fall apart (hey, even I had a couple romances -hah- before I met my wife) and far fewer that they stay together. And keep in mind that Kuroneko, probably singularly, is playing a long game. I really do think she’s in the best position by far.

Gokou Ruri (Kuroneko, Shironeko, Kamineko..heck bring on Midorineko) is BEST GIRL.
As you said, that long game she is playing sets her up to the most devious (I’m not convinced she isn’t playing for both Kyousuke and Kirino..she wants the three of them to be very happy), most manipulative (who isn’t puddy in her hands…Ayase was outclassed, that was a slaughter, no matter how much the chuunibyou sequences showed it as even), and most loving of all of them.

There are very few people I would take a gift of a knife. I was going to say perhaps one of my kitchen chefs, but those cats are crazy in a bag. It still doesn’t convince me that Ayase wasn’t built using a CharacterTropeSpinnyDial. Just make her as unreasonable as possible in any situation, and boom, character done.

Kudos to calling out “true” self. But honestly, I don’t think people see themselves that way. The “true” self is the one the are happiest with, and that is what makes it “true” for the given value of that word. It’s a bunch of hoot really.

Kanata got all the brains; several of them if her introduction was anything to go by. But she’s a cool, talented, red-headed big sister. It’s possible that her little sister doesn’t pay much attention to anything that doesn’t directly effect her.

I have to say, in hindsight, this was a crazy absurd episode. Built upon the hard to swallow “yeah, moving out will cancel the shenanigans” idea, it just balloons from there. But, that’s entertainment.

Off topic, but I’d recommend never giving a chef a knife for a gift unless you REALLY know what they want. They will all have their own preferences as to brand, style, balance, etc. and you DON’T want to give them something else!

Back on topic. It seems pretty clear that Ayase is meant as the crazy character, so in pretty much every encounter with Kyousuke she has to go batshit crazy on him. And Kanako is meant as the stupid, selfish one so it has to take her this long to get a clue Kyousuke is a high school student and Kirino is his sister. Although she is also a consummate actress. Remember how she was able to play Meru at short notice and even memorize her song? So maybe she’s only stupid about things that don’t relate to her wanting to be an idol. Of course, that would be just about everything.

I think you’re right that Kuroneko is playing a long game and playing it very subtly. She may be claiming she’s okay with Kyousuke x Kirino because right now he’s obviously close to his sister and she thinks if she tries to get between them she could lose him. Or maybe she really is okay with that as long as there’s also room for her in their lives.

      • skylion says:

She may stumble, she may tumble, but she has her own path, and it is clearly not the one most other people would travel by.
Ideally, she wants him as her boyfriend, and her as her best friend. And I think I’m just reacting very strongly to the obvious bait of the three way relationship. I mean, entertainment can serve many purposes, one of them very well could be the triumphs and tragedies of an incestous x normal x yuri relationship…..

        • Highway says:

I think Kuroneko would be fine with them that way, if that’s what Kyousuke wanted. But as has been said, she wants Kyousuke, and not just for a boyfriend. She wants him for lifelong partner. And she wants Kirino to truly be her best friend forever. Not ‘BFF’ but truly best friend.

And I was actually kind of surprised that that slipped past Ayase without comment. Both Kuroneko and Ayase have claimed to be Kirino’s best friend, and I thought as soon as Kuroneko said that to Ayase’s face, that Ayase would argue her own side. But perhaps she actually realizes this is the case now. Perhaps that’s part of the reason for the ‘dorobou neko’ moniker. Not only has Kuroneko stolen Onii-san, she’s stolen Kirino.

          • skylion says:

Yes, that did kinda plow right into her. She only knows the cultured side of her best friend, the thieving cat knows the blunt, honest, rather insane at times, of Kirino.

  2. HannoX says:

I’m still holding out hope we don’t get the Kyousuke x Kirino ending because I’d hate that. I think a lot of what points in that direction is misdirection. It may look like they have romantic feelings for each other, but I suspect it could be more that they are both selfish and don’t want each other to have a boy/girl friend because they want to be the center of their sibling’s attention.

Okay, I know so far Kyousuke doesn’t seem the selfish type, but much of that may be due to his rather passive personality. We do know that Kirino wants to be the center of attention. She certainly gets the lion’s share of their parents’ attention. It would be reasonable for her to also want to be the center of her brother’s attention. And since Kyousuke knows he’ll only get a little of his parents’ attention it would be reasonable that he would want to be the center of attention from the only family member left.

So in their own ways they’ve been clamoring for each other’s attention throughout this series. Kirino has been trying to share her interests with her brother, but can’t bring herself to admit it’s because she wants to have something in common with him besides blood. And Kyousuke has been doing pretty much whatever she wants because at least she’s paying attention to him and coming to depend upon him.

    • skylion says:

LOL. They did a pretty good job on that.

    • BlackBriar says:

Not bad. It makes one wonder if they’ll do a video that has OreImo, OniiAi and Kono Naka ni Hitori, Imouto ga Iru!

      • skylion says:

Well, it’s rather begs for either Irony or Reunion done with clips from Yosuga no Sora…Sora End.

        • BlackBriar says:

I never finished Yosuga no Sora but I remembered there was a lot of incestuous tension.

          • skylion says:

I remember there was a lot of incestuous tension.

            Fixed that for you….

            • BlackBriar says:

So it did go that far….

            • skylion says:

              ….

            • Highway says:

It went THAT far, and took a train to the other side of the incest continent and back. Show ▼

  4. BlackBriar says:

Some things are very wrong here. First, I’d have Ayase heavily sedated for getting a key for someone else’s place. The girl is a certified stalker. Second, I’d have a straight jacket ready just for carrying a knife of all things. If it was someone else, I’d say patience but I wouldn’t trust this girl so far as I could throw her.

Next to Kirino, Kuroneko is the best female character around though her tolerance must be extremely high if she’d allow Kyousuke and Kirino to commit incest. She claims Kyousuke’s soul belongs to her for eternity. That must be some contract if it can have them bound together even after a break up. And she’s a sly one countering Ayase’s verbal attacks like it’s second nature.

    • skylion says:

Ruri has a very complex cake recipe; having it and eating it (thou I have never liked that phrase). The boyfriend and girlfriend relationship is but a single ingredient. I still harbour feelings of love for my ex-wife, but they do have provisos, hence the ex status. She plays a good game, this. Because if it does go the KxK route, it will end. They aren’t the Lannisters (thou a Oreimo/Game of Thrones OVA would be interesting). By supporting them no matter what end, and being honest about that, she wins. But then, how honest is she with that declaration of support? That’s the clincher.

    • Highway says:

Kuroneko has always been the top of the heap in this show of verbal jousting. I don’t think anyone’s even come close. So matching up against Ayase was a boat race. No contest at all.

She’s definitely playing 11-dimensional chess at this, but I think she clearly sees both the current state and her end goal, and is working on a plan between the two. And as far as ‘breaking up’, I think that it has been made clear that they didn’t break up because of any lack of love on either of their part. As Kuroneko says in this episode, she just needs to work to make sure the situation with Kirino is resolved in the way she wants.

I do think that Kuroneko is a tight enough friend with both Kirino and Kyousuke that if they honestly declared their intentions and desires, she’d help them as much as she could. Her biggest beef with Kirino has repeatedly been Kirino’s self-deception and dishonesty.

      • skylion says:

Hit the nail on the head with that last sentence….

      • BlackBriar says:

I do think that Kuroneko is a tight enough friend with both Kirino and Kyousuke that if they honestly declared their intentions and desires, she’d help them as much as she could. Her biggest beef with Kirino has repeatedly been Kirino’s self-deception and dishonesty.

In other words, you can’t fully trust someone even if you’re best friends with them.

        • Highway says:

Hmm, that’s certainly not other words that I’d use for that. Of course, we run into a True Scotsman argument here, in that you really can’t ‘fully trust’ anyone, you can only go off past experience as a guide.

What I mean by Kuroneko’s dislike of Kirino’s self-deception and self-dishonesty (the self was to modify both) is that Kirino’s actions repeatedly indicate she feels one way, yet her words and proclaimed attitudes are contrary to that expressed preference. And it’s when there is that conflict between what she says and what she wants that Kirino is most insufferable. Kirino is not fooling Kuroneko, even if she fools Kyousuke.

          • skylion says:

The True Tsundere Fallacy? I can go with that…

            • BlackBriar says:

We have no proof that this is The True Tsundere Fallacy. There might still be layers to explore.

          • BlackBriar says:

Then Kirino is taking tsundere to another level.

            • skylion says:

She takes the tsun part to levels of near patent pending level for herself. The dere part is fair typical, but lovely in the contrast. In that respect she is like a hop bombed micro brew.

Which always makes me chuckle at something she said last season, “You’ve shown me the tsun, now give me that dere”, her exasperated comment to one of her eroges.

Info found on MAL: Airing Date of ‘Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai.’ Episodes 14-16 Announced.

According to the official website, the airing date of the last three episodes (ep.14-16) of “Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai.” has been set on August 18th.

    • skylion says:

I think I read that it would be made for streaming via the oreimo website, nico nico douga, and one other online outlet…480p eye gunk, anyone?

      • Highway says:

Extra Blu-Ray volume, I would guess. Probably not far behind the final series Blu-Ray.

        • BlackBriar says:

I wonder how the sales on those will go.

          • Highway says:

Probably depends on how the ending for the TV series goes. Man would THAT be trollish, if the TV series ends with a Kirino x Kyousuke ending, then the extra episodes take it to a Kuroneko x Kyousuke ending. They’d probably outsell the final volume of the show TV airing if that were the case.

            • skylion says:

This was going to be my prediction.

            • HannoX says:

Yes, the extras being the True Ending, just like in Season One.

I hope they don’t pull that. I’d like Ep. 13 to give us the true ending of who Kyousuke ends up with, then the extras showing how that relationship develops and how the other relationships then work out, i.e., the friendship between Kuroneko, Kirino and Satori and Kyousuke’s relationship with Minami.
