Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S – 06

railgunS (10)

Saten-“EHHHHH! What do you mean I don’t get my own arc?!”

Time for more Railgun S here on Metanorn! When we left off last week Misaka finally met her clone codenamed MISAKA 9982 and the two of them seemed to hit it off just like real siblings for a while until meeting up with Accelerator! Now we have to find out how Misaka deals with this overpowered villain this week.

Misaka’s rage

railgunS (1)

You made Misaka angry? You are doomed!

railgunS (4)

Accelerator-“Hmmm you were saying something about my doom? You can’t win!”

After witnessing the death of MISAKA 9982 it was easy to see how angry that scene left Misaka! I mean can you imagine how you would feel after you saw yourself get killed before your own eyes? You also have to feel bad for Misaka because she can’t even get revenge thanks to Accelerator’s ability that practically makes it impossible for her to fight him in a one on one battle. Speaking of his powers for a moment I forgot how quickly Accelerator adapts to fighting you, it just takes him seeing your attack once or twice before he figures out how it works, but against someone like Touma who has to get in your face it creates issues for Accelerator later on. I have heard the argument that someone like Kuroko (this is a great post on Team Sea Slugs) with her ability to teleport items into your body would kick ass! Just imagine if she reached into your skull and teleported your brain out or replaced it with a grenade? I guess thinking about it sounds so damn CREEPY huh? Anyway back to the topic at hand, I thought it was great that the other clones came out of nowhere to save Misaka because if they did not show up I think Accelerator would have easily two shot the original without breaking a sweat.

Extra fun with Railgun S

railgunS (8)

I love how the goggles glow!

railgunS (9)

Accelerator’s whispers cause nightmares.

railz gunz (1)

Technically she was “with” a guy, but he wasn’t very nice.

railz gunz (2)

This was so damn creepy!

End thoughts

Well damn this episode gave us a short peek into Misaka’s mind and all the physiological stress related to seeing the death of MISAKA 9982 and the frustration of not being able to take Accelerator on? Course most series would go the route of training to become stronger, but sadly that is tough for Misaka who is already a powerful level five and yeah I suppose she could learn new ways to use her abilities? While that does sound cool I would rather see the story progress instead. Besides the stuff with Misaka and Accelerator it was nice to see the familiar faces of Kuroko, Uiharu, Erii and of course Saten who quickly changed the subject before Misaka’s had a breakdown, but at the same time I think most of us would love to see her reveal the pain she has been going through this entire time? However I don’t think Misaka would want to involve her friends in something dangerous especially if Accelerator gets involved? Yeah that would suck!

Saten is training the next generation of money sniffers.

Time for something completely different?

Just imagine if she reached into your skull and teleported your brain out or replaced it with a grenade?…..the grenade would be the least of my worries Fosh. Actually it would contain none of my worries since Kuroko has my brain in her hands…..

    • Foshizzel says:

Yep! Kuroko would be very deadly if she ever used her powers in such a way xD

    • HannoX says:

Just imagine if Kuroko learns how to teleport Misaka’s clothes off her body. Of course, maybe she can already do that but knows she’d die if she did.

      • skylion says:

Well, she has nothing to fear in the ZAP reprisal department, considering she has already full on groped Mikasa. If that didn’t kill her…

      • Sheep says:

She already did at some point. She removed Mikoto’s underwear.

  2. skylion says:

I got nothing. All the emotional stuff we should have gotten way back when and her it just drills us in the head.

Well, we know that the only thing that can stop Accelerator is a time table. Someone convince him that a bus ticket in on his schedule…..one to say, a natural disaster.

    • Foshizzel says:

Yeah the emotional stuff is interesting! I wish they did more with that~

      LOL yepp haha

  3. Sumairii says:

Accelerator is so OP mainly because “vectors” is a very broad and abstract concept. If you talk about teleporting, for example, that’s a very specific thing you have in mind: moving something from point a to point b instantaneously. But what does it mean when you say “vector manipulation”? Technically speaking, practically anything can be reasonably described with vectors, so you might as well be saying that Accelerator can do whatever he wants. Heck, even teleportation can be interpreted as vectors.

    • Gecko says:

Agreed, the “vector” concept isn’t defined well enough to give Accelerator any limits at all. He might as well be a god.

      • Hiss13 says:

The problem is that he still does have his limits. He can only manipulate vectors which touch him. That being said, he is almost invincible at this point but if you have watched Index II, you would know that there is one loophole which can be manipulated without Imagine Breaker and the novels present another example in Volume 15.

His Level 6 state (or at least what we, the fans believe to be his Level 6 state) is extremely overpowered with only three characters in the universe who could actually fight it evenly (minus Kamijou Touma).

        • Gecko says:

Alright, sounds good. I couldn’t stand the nun girl, so I didn’t even get through Index episode 1.

I’m glad he has some limits in there.

        • Sumairii says:

I get where they’re going with it, but vectors can’t really “touch” you. They’re not something physical, but rather a conceptual representation. I would even put vectors closer to the “personal reality” stuff. But that’s probably more technical than what we should expect from a work of fiction. It’s good to know they at least put some limits on Accelerator’s capabilities.

      • Ansatsu-shi says:

Funny thing… Accelerator’s other epithet is “The One Who Wields the Power of God”

    • Sheep says:

      That could happen in theory.
However, Accelerator’s brain just isn’t geared for the many things that he theoretically could do.
An example coming from Accelerator himself: “My vector manipulation power can only detect the presence or absence of an electrical signal. In other words, I can only extract a string of zeroes and ones. I have no way of knowing what memory that belongs to, so I can’t replay the memories or anything. Can anyone hear the music on a CD in their head just by looking at the surface of the CD? It’s the same as that”

  4. Gecko says:

Accelerator is already overpowering everyone, he really doesn’t need more power. At least Misaka is rather angry and would like to stop him. Although it seems that she has a lot of trouble coming up.

Kuroko, if she was stronger, would be a very good choice against Accelerator, especially if she could take parts of things and move them away from each other. That’s my concern with the brain deal- it’s connected to the rest of the body, so she would have to break those connections first in order to really just get the brain out. Or maybe she could teleport a grenade into his mouth??

Misaka, though, gosh, she knows the clones are humans yet tries to accept their reasoning that they are just for that purpose, nothing more and that since they won’t change their minds, she has to destroy the project. And she won’t get help ever, considering she wants to do this all alone and she couldn’t tell her friends about the problem. It’s rather frustrating that she won’t try to help the clones because she thinks everyone can be independent like her.

Anyways, music was good this time around, it was placed really well with the action. I kind of wish all the MISAKA’s had different glowing goggles, like a full rainbow. That would make them even better.

    • Foshizzel says:

True at least Misaka TRIED to take out Accelerator instead of running away, but of course that is part of her character lol…

If Kuroko learned to master her powers OMG she would be deadly xD

    • Sheep says:

      Accelerator redirects teleportation.
Something about 11th dimension movement being expressed in vectors, if I remember correctly.

Kuroko can probably teleport objects inside somebody, but she can’t teleport parts of objects. There has to be a distinct separation.

  5. sonicsenryaku says:

although it seems like next week will be filler, it’s actually going to move the plot along

    • skylion says:

It features Saten, and is therefor The Show. The sisters are just there for the drama…

    • Foshizzel says:

Filler with Saten? I can get down with that ;D

      • skylion says:

A Certain Skirt Flipping Rumour Sniffer….we needs this two cour show!

  6. Hiss13 says:

Saten is actually going to get a pretty big role in the next arc which is adapted in Railgun S, the Liberal Arts City SS.

    • skylion says:

So, you’ve basically said that this will become the best series on the entire planet.

    • d-LaN says:

      Have they officially confirmed it?

      • belatkuro says:

Not yet. We don’t even have the seiyuus for the members of ITEM yet. But they’ve already mentioned it several times in the series. It would be stupid to think that they won’t push through with it.

Also, Kamachi likes continuity and hates contradictions in his timeline. That’s why he approves of the second half of the first season as it doesn’t contradict the flow of the events. Liberal Arts is the next big event to follow after Sisters arc in the timeline so it’s almost sure to be animated. Unless of course we get a filler arc as there’s just a chunk of time available in between Sisters arc and Liberal Arts City for them to squeeze something in it.

In the end, we’ll just have to wait and see what they do. But let’s focus first on the current arc before moving to the next one.

        • d-LaN says:

No seiyuu list yet for ITEM members? Well one of them appeared in the Index game and have a seiyuu… I wonder will they use her or hire a new seiyuu?

Haha, reminds me of tht scene in Railgun manga (IT WAS JUST OUT OF THE PANEL)

      • Hiss13 says:

No, it has not been officially confirmed but it has been hinted at multiple times (e.g the frames focusing on the IC Card when Misaka 9982 withdrew her gun from the coin locker) and has been referenced directly once in an earlier episode.

I’m pretty sure the fans will be in uproar if it isn’t adapted.

    • Foshizzel says:

yay Saten for the win! LOVE HER <3

  7. BlackBriar says:

Accelerator turned up the creeper level sky high while looking down. He was very much like a mad dog and he sadistically finds satisfaction in what he does. What I remember from Index II with Kihara hanging around is that Accelerator needs wind to assist with his vector calculations to unleash his attacks and here, he was in an open area in that railroad yard. Maybe if he was placed somewhere that wasn’t open, all advantages would be minimized.

I’m glad that among the scientists, Shinobu turned out to be one of the few who hasn’t sold her humanity for the sake of research because the rest of them need a severe ass kicking. We know they’re clones but their copies of sentient beings so it pretty much comes back all the same that they’re still human and killing them in experiments isn’t going to change the fact.

    • skylion says:

Yes, Shinobu is a great character. I am very happy they made her sympathetic; and such a great scene where she confessed the clones humanity. It made me genuinely happy that I love watching anime.

      • Gecko says:

The beauty of the scene for me was that she confessed that the one in particular was more human than herself because the one loved the world from the second she saw it and felt the wind.

        • skylion says:

Thank you for reminding me of that that, Gecko. Shinobu really gave Mikasa some strength in that sentiment.

        • BlackBriar says:

That really was the best because Shinobu felt pure innocence in her. Something she couldn’t find in herself because of all what she had done in the past. The irony must have bearing heavily on her for that.

  8. PanzerJäger says:

I think that they could have taken Accelerator with the Misaka clone army, superior numbers always win! The Russians proved that in WW2, just with massive casualties.

I have to say, Misaka was using the iron in the dust, she was totally charging for a Kamehameha blast, well at least it looked like it. And how Kuroko shows her sis con. “She’s mine! She’s not with a guy!” I’m looking forward to the next episode, hopefully something lighter after these previous ones. And teleporting into people? Sounds familiar, sort of like a space vampire named Saki.

    • Foshizzel says:

Oh? You think so? That would be quite the site to see now wouldn’t it? I still think Accelerator would totally own their asses~

The next episode will probably follow some comedic stuff with Saten and Kuroko, but yeah it should be more lighthearted and less emotional stuffs with the clones+Accelerator.

    • Sumairii says:

Didn’t the Russians also have winter on their side, which was really the bigger factor? My world history is a bit rusty but I think I remember this much.

      • PanzerJäger says:

Yeah they had the winter on their side. The German army just froze, quite literally. They had poor clothes that weren’t suited for the temperature and petrol engines don’t like the cold that much, however the diesel Russian tanks where fine. Plus all the German tanks had narrow tracks which meant that they sank into the snow until they implemented the ost-ketten, which meant the wider tracks spread out the weight and decrease the ground pressure. However the Russians didn’t have proper AP rounds till late ’43 which meant it was hopeless against tigers and panthers. They had to get damn close or make some very smart shots.

    • skylion says:

I always thought it would have been awesome if they had cloned Accelerator, and had him fight his own clones…..

But Sisters=Moe, so that is what sold….I think.

      • PanzerJäger says:

A battle between accelerator and his clones, that would get nowhere since he can defect attacks. They would run at each other, hit the force field and then go flying backwards. Or they could know each others weakness and cap each other at the same time.

  9. amado says:

ah its been quite a long time since ive commented in anime blogs…

anyways, this here just shows how powerful misaka can really be if she’s truly pissed off. just imagine if misaka used those metal rails against her fight with touma…

also one thing though, despite the fact that from last episode we have already known she’d die(for people who’ve seen index and read ahead in railgun manga), that still served as quite a deep shot to the fans.
because before railgun came out, accel didnt have much hate since how he killed them werent really explored and touma didnt really make good bonding time.
now that we got to see it, well lets say thats how accel gained haters even after seeing the last order arc.

    • BlackBriar says:

Welcome back, amado. It’s been a long time.

I agree with what you’re saying. There’s a huge difference between hearing about an incident and actually seeing it happen first hand. The latter churned emotions so I really got pissed seeing Accelerator overpower Misaka and her attacks having no kind of effect at all.

At least around the time Last Order came in, he realized what a monster he was and tried to atone for what he did. I think that’s the part where he started getting fans before the hidden parts of him brought out haters. But a past covered in blood isn’t easy to get rid of and in the meantime, you confront demons you’ve created in the past. Something he learned the hard way in Index II, fighting his own power developer Amata Kihara who knew everything about him.

    • Foshizzel says:

Welcome back Amado you have been missed here!

Oooh yeah if Misaka used her powers against Touma with this Accelerator fight she would win, but of course his fist would put a stop to that really fast.

True I think people hate him because after meeting Last Order everyone basically forgives him for it? Yeah that part was dumb for me >.<

  10. skylion says:

I’ve had a couple of sick days here. I hope to be better by tomorrow. But when the resting is done, and you feel a bit better, but not quite well, what do you do?

    Watch Anime, that’s what.

So, I caught up with Index S1. Not all of it, mind you. But enough to get all the stuff back I had forgotten. I mean, I made the obviously stupid mistake of thinking that Touma got his memories back.

Also it underscored the current version of the Sister’s Arc playing in Railgun S.

I had forgotten how well paced that arc played out, and how incredibly lucky Touma was, despite his protests to the contrary, that none of Accelerator’s attacks turned him into paste.

I’m hoping they pull a good story when he rappers in this outing…

    • Foshizzel says:

Doh! I hope you have a speedy recovery! I hate when I catch colds because it kills my motivation xD

      Anime the ani-sickness! YAY!

Good work buddy and what did you think if the episodes you saw of Index? Love it or hate it? I have mixed feelings of course and I don’t hate Touma as much as others out there, but anyway YES he does get off super lucky in the fight with Accelerator I will agree to that.

We shall see I have a feeling they will skip Touma punching Accelerator in the face >.>

      • skylion says:

Thanks, Metabro, I am on the road to recovery. I gots my day job tomorrow, so the ship has to sail.

I stopped at the first episode of the Angel Fall arc tonite. I like how they mixed the swapped identity with a rather serious background.

And I will always love Academy City. It’s my favorite franchise behind K-ON and Monogatari.

Yeah, everyone hates on Touma. But he is my favorite Implacable Man. Index loves him, and that is good enough for me.

Oh, we need to see some face punching in this arc.

        • Foshizzel says:

Angel Fall arc doesn’t that have Misaka acting as Touma’s cousin and Index turns into his mom? That arc is a bit crazy, but it works xD

Academy City is fun and scary at the same time…

Everyone hates touma for two reasons
1: He gives long winded speeches before he punches you
          2: His power is unbeatable

True we need to see that famous scene!

          • d-LaN says:

……..To me those long-winded speech are one of the best part of Index :/

          • Hiss13 says:

If anyone actually hates Touma for that second reason, then they seriously need to read the novels. If Imagine Breaker was unbeatable, then let’s just say that the events at the beginning of Volume 16 would have turned out differently (without giving any spoilers away) and he sure as hell would have had an easier time in his fights.

And his speeches…well, that’s a huge part of his character. Taking them away would pretty much ruin that. I personally can’t see any reason to hate the guy.

      • Highway says:

We need to see face punching, otherwise how do they end this arc? Without that, Accelerator stays Evil Superman: invulnerable, limitless power, gigantic ego.

I don’t mind Touma, he’s an ok guy. His main problem is having mega-annoying Index around.

        • BlackBriar says:

I don’t mind Touma, he’s an ok guy. His main problem is having mega-annoying Index around.

          That’s what increases his misfortune.
