Jormungand Perfect Order -10

World domination or world peace?

I am so glad I caught up for this episode. It was absolutely AMAZING. The wait to learn Koko’s plans in detail was well worth it.

The beginning of the episode was very worrying. Not just because Koko’s team had issues with Night, but also because if they were going to kill off any more characters, it would be soon. With 2 episodes left after this one, the safety of every single character is questionable. Anyways, that guy with the glasses was a challenge this episode, but because of that, we finally got a taste of what Jormungand can do.

Which brings us to the cause of the problem here, Bookman. He has a vague idea of what Koko can do, but I wonder if he even has an idea of what Koko plans to do with her toy. The thought of controlling her now seems ridiculous at this point. No wonder Koko never really seemed bothered by the people trying to attack her all the time. She’s had her sights set on much bigger things all along. Not that I’m saying Bookman isn’t a possible threat, but he certainly seems a lot smaller now with Koko’s plan in perspective.

Well Lutz finally put into word something that’s been important to the team this entire time. Koko isn’t one to leave any person in her team behind, no matter what. Her team’s loyalty to her isn’t even a question anymore. …Which is a good thing since her plans are finally finishing up. If there was any insubordination past what Lutz and Jonah did in the first part of this episode, I imagine Koko would be even busier than she already is. I’m sure there will be even more opposition to face once Koko begins Jormungand as well, so team unity is important here.

Just what is Jonah to Koko? Yes, he’s her limiter, but is that all? That bath scene was one thing, but HOLY CRAP that kiss. Was not expecting that. I can’t see Koko bathing with any other males from her crew, but I don’t really want to call Jonah Koko’s love interest just yet. She definitely sets him above normal people and it’s not that the age difference feels awkward (it doesn’t). I don’t think Koko sees Jonah quite as family either because I definitely cannot see Koko kissing Kasper, whatever the reason. I just don’t know what to make of Koko’s actions this episode. I think I just have a hard time seeing Koko actually falling in love. Though if it was love, it would make Jonah’s later actions even more dramatic…

Of all people to not go along with Koko’s crazy schemes, Jonah was the last person I would suspect. …Which makes the current scenario even better. I can see why he wouldn’t like Koko’s plan though. For one, the people in the air who would die are a pretty big problem, not to mention those in remote places who would die because they have their resources shipped to them. The other reason I can see him opposing this plan is because he says he loves the world. Koko’s plans would drastically change how the world functions and might make it a different place entirely. In any case, he’s definitely playing his role as Koko’s last connection to humanity at the moment. I think at this point, he might be the only thing able to stop her from going through with her plans.

Finally, Koko’s grand scheme is revealed and true to her character, it did not disappoint. I figured world peace was a pretty ambitious goal, but the way Koko plans to go about it is even more ambitious. Like Faisel said, if Koko goes through with her plan, she won’t just be cutting off the entire world from one another, she’ll be playing god. I’d say with this move, she rises to the same heights as Lelouch from Code Geass and Light from Death Note. She has a vision for the world and she’s going to do whatever she can to make it happen. …Of course, the two characters mentioned above also share unfortunate fates, so I’m really worried for Koko’s safety while simultaneously admiring her ambition. It’s kind of surprising that she wouldn’t care about sacrificing quite a few thousand people for her ambitions though considering how she doesn’t believe in leaving her own people behind. Though she has no problems with killing people against her, so she probably puts them before everyone else.

Jormungand seems like a pretty great system in writing. …But so does the Sybil System in Psycho Pass. Would cutting off all airways and communication really lead to world peace? Yes, it would really prevent any great wars from breaking out, but people have been finding ways to kill great masses of each other long before the gun was even invented. I wonder if Koko doesn’t realize this or if she just figures she can stop it since she’ll effectively be the only person with access to the airways and such.

This episode was intense. If the next two episodes have the same pacing as this one did, Jormungand might just become my anime of the year. It was just one event after another this episode with no stops in between. I does kind of feel like this arc was revealed last minute since Jormungand has been pretty arc contained thus far, but I guess there have been hints in between of this being planned. I’m talking about the satellites being launched the first episode of Perfect Order and Koko telling Jonah right from the beginning that she wants world peace. I guess the mentions of Koko and Minami being dragons kind of fit in here as well. In any case, Jormungand seems to be building up for something big now. I’m both sad and exciting to see this heading towards the ending.

I read up a bit on Jormungandr in Norse mythology the last episode and apparently it’s a giant snake that comes from the ocean at Ragnorok, poisons that skies and eventually kills the god Thor. I can kind of see similarities to the legend in Koko’s plan. Or at least in the part where she plans to take out the skies first. I have no idea what happens to Jormungandr after it accomplishes all of that, but hopefully Koko’s Jormungand doesn’t end tragically.

If the preview is anything to go by, Jonah doesn’t actually shoot Koko (thank god)… for now at least.

THIS EPISODE. I was fangirling with Stilts on twitter about the curveball this episode threw. The reveal of Jormungand was very epic but like Jonah, I don’t want more people to die.

Yes, it’s gritty to look at the bigger picture and sacrifice for greater good but is that right? The way you do things matter and sure, it will look cool but is that all? I would really like to see something otherwise play out here. The dominating, almost God like Koko is fine in terms of her character but why did we waste so much time in knowing all the characters around her and seeing her become almost normal human in influence? With two episodes left, I definitely would like to know where they are going with this.

YES THIS EPISODE. The pacing was relentless!!!

I suppose it would be too much to ask for Koko to stall planes from taking off for long enough for everyone to clear the airways, and THEN shut it all down. I do think that the 7 however many thousand is a lot of deaths to ask for. Koko deciding to sacrifice them for her plan shows how serious she is though.

I think Jonah will play a big part in what Koko decides to do as well.

      • BlackBriar says:

I doubt she’d consider waiting for something like that because it would take too long and there would be those who wouldn’t comply because it sounds insane. To Koko and how serious she is, those deaths would be nothing but collateral damage in her quest for what she calls “world peace”. Her version of “The ends justify the means”.

        • Karakuri says:

From the ability of the computer, I don’t think anyone would have to comply any more than with her original plan. She could probably just shut down whatever she wanted to down whether people liked it or not. I have to agree with her not wanting to wait for it though. I doubt she’d do that.

BEST EPISODE YET!!! This show just keeps getting better! The gunfight was excellent and again, Lutz got shot in the ass. That is a curse I would never want.

Koko is a thousand times crazier than I thought and her facial expressions are at their most demented here that I almost forgot she’s human. Her plan is basically causing mass genocide and setting civilizations back by at least a century. I guess to her, the deaths of those people is a cynical way of saying “some people die so others can live”, a means to an end or collateral damage.

What is Jonah to Koko? After the bath scene where she had her way with him, it’s confirmed that she sees him as a lover rather than a bodyguard. It really looks that way. And that kiss? The possibility of her being a full blown shotacon has finally been proven true.

Seeing Jonah turn on Koko at the last minute makes sense because the death toll would be too high and her plan would destroy everything he believes in. Jormungand has a fatal flaw. Isolate people in a place for too long with limited resources of any kind and it will eventually lead to infighting for survival, bringing out the contrary of “world peace”. Besides, no one person can handle that kind of power without eventually abusing it. It’s human nature and there are no exceptions.

YESSS!!! As I mentioned before, that gunfight was really worrying. xD I’m glad everything worked out.

Like Kyo was saying over twitter, I think comparing Koko to Kiritsugu in terms of sacrificing the few for the many. I’m a little bit shocked at her believing that letting thousands die as well. Maybe it’s not as big of a jump like Hitomi was in Code:Breaker’s last episode, but she definitely felt R’s death. She doesn’t want anyone in her team to die. Why would she think that it’s okay for others to die? Anyways, small shock aside, I’m still really enjoying how badass Koko is at the moment.

Give me a time skip with the two of them still together. Maybe I’ll believe in the relationship then.

Yeah, I see flaws with Jormungand. Like I said before, people killed each other with pointy stick long before modern technology came around.

On the other hand though, maybe Koko could handle controlling it. You’ve even said above that Koko is pretty inhuman. She’s definitely different from the rest of society, so it’s not that far of a stretch to say that her mentality is also different.

      • BlackBriar says:

If anything, Koko thinks there is a relationship going on, it’s just that Jonah doesn’t see it that way. He may be a soldier but he’s still a kid. Therefore, he’s not as advanced on the relationship department.

Humans are creatures of habit. Even if you take something out of their hands, they’ll look for an alternative to make do with.

What Koko doesn’t realize is that plan is basically hoarding power and if it’s accomplished, she’ll kill an untold amount of people. She said last season that people that kill too much become dragons one day, that she can’t allow them to remain in the world. In the end, it’s counterproductive because she’ll become the very thing she set out to destroy. The biggest one of them all, in fact.

  3. KLACMAN says:

yea really loko koko master plan did take bit from die hard 2 movie aka scene baddie hi-jack plane of chief o’brien to crash?

yet koko version all the flying machines types yea cue screwed a-hoy give expect mutiny on the rise?

  4. Overcooled says:

THAT KISS…!! I didn’t expect it either. Koko snuggling up to Jonah is something I’m used to. Mouth to mouth contact is not. Koko has bad taste in men, especially when she’s surrounded by so many other choices.

It was super intense and I’m loving this New World arc for being so ball-to-the-wall at all times. I don’t think Jonah actually shoots Koko either, but I wonder exactly how she’ll manage to calm him down and what she’ll do to keep him him happy. She looked so hurt when he turned on her that I doubt she’d ever follow through on anything that would hurt him. Oh man, can’t wait to see how this ends!

    • Karakuri says:

Ahahaha maybe Koko IS a shotacon. Really though, in my opinion, the best choice of the male cast would be Kasper and I don’t think I want to watch that, so Jonah it is.

If he shoots her… I don’t know what I’ll do. Jonah rejecting Koko’s scheme was definitely not in her set of predictions, so maybe she’ll change it up a bit for him. …I don’t know where this is going, but I want to find out SO BAD!!!!
