Medaka Box Abnormal – 02
Trying to escape to a better show!
Medaka Box Abnormal appears to be fully embracing its shonen identity, with Oudo following up Unzen as the new, more powerful enemy. The motivations seem pretty flimsy and rather unfitting for this school setting, and Odou’s princely gimmick is uninteresting, reminding me of Gilgamesh from the Fate series more than anything. Maybe I’ll care more as his motivations are more explained, but I somehow doubt it.
Also, Zenkichi was literally right next to Medaka; he shouldn’t have been airborne for 10 seconds when attacking Oudo. That scene was incredibly stupid.
On the other hand, it was a joy to be introduced to Medaka’s brother. That perverted prodigy siscon character is a pretty expected one these days, but I could appreciate the lengths to which Abnormal went to show the depth of his obsession. The photographs and figures are one thing, but oppai slippers? That’s taking it to the next level. I always say, if a show can’t be good, it should at least be bold, and Maguro was bold.
Again, the story development is worrying. I don’t like the idea of a protracted training arc. I want Medaka to spend more time with her friends, figuring out how best to use her talents to better the world, instead of powering up like Goku. I genuinely love most of Abnormal‘s characters; let them be themselves instead of hammering them into pre-defined genre roles.

Maguro’s introduction was hilarious, and for me that made this ep of Medaka Box the most entertaining one I’ve seen. Also, there was a level of ridiculousness to the scene with Oudo that I enjoyed.

The rows and rows of Medaka merch did have me in stitches. It was especially nice to see Medaka so genuinely creeped out by this; she is usually one to keep a cool head, so it’s funny to see what actually does push her buttons.

Maguro’s obsession is hilarious and the Medaka slippers with the big boobs were a great bit. But he and his room were the only things I liked in this episode. I’ll watch another episode, but I think I’m going to be dropping this anime.

i would be creeped out too if i entered a room like this… even if it wasn’t me on the wall!

Yeah, I recall thinking those cosplay outfits were a nice touch, since there’s no way Medaka would ever wear them. The room would creep anyone out, but I loved the effect it had on Medaka. She’s generally unflappable, but we got to see 2 men actually get to her, though obviously in very different ways. She is only human, after all.

fufufu this episode was really random and hilarious thanks to Medaka’s brother…Wow I had no idea she had someone like him in her family! I wonder if we will get to see her parents? I can’t imagine them being normal either xD
No prob on the caps lvlln! So far things have gotten really interesting and damn I want to see the training next week, but I thought about checking out the manga or should I just wait? Lol

Yeah, I imagine the parents are either just as crazy as them, and/or horribly negligent. Maguro needs professional help, and Medaka seems to get away with an awful lot, like destroying part of the school.
