Hello friends! I’m sorry for the late post, is it just me or is this fall bursting with awesome anime? I’m actually following 11 series — let’s hope I can keep up with them. xD Here with this week’s dose of moe fluffiness, enjoy~ |
Friends, maybe?
Rikka and Yuuta are becoming an extremely entertaining duo! Although I confess the humor that they provide doesn’t getting me laughing till my sides hurt, they still do make me smile in a creepy oh-god-this-is-so-moe-I-love-it way. Yuuta seems like he’s come to terms with the fact that he’s going to be stuck with Rikka for a long, long time, and rather than trying to get rid of her he’s more of just trying to convince others (and also himself) to ignore her weird antics. His exasperation juxtaposed to her undying enthusiasm is really fun to watch, and he’s actually being dragged along on her ~magical~ adventures. I like how they act as one another’s anchors – Yuuta is the voice of reason who keeps Rikka attached to the real world, while Rikka is the strange one who keeps Yuuta connected to the exciting world of magic. Rather different, but they do in fact balance each other out and provide us with many funny, adorable moments. Seeing things from their opposing points of view, I think, is what makes the show enjoyable.
Another three join the party
New characters this week! Firstly, although Nibutani Shinka already appeared last week, it wasn’t until now that she’s been properly introduced to us. She’s your standard school belle – pretty, popular and also a responsible class president. She is, of course, cute (this show is just full of cute I don’t even know how to dislike anyone this cute) but other than that, we still don’t know much about her. I wonder how she’ll react when she finds out about Yuuta and Rikka’s wildly imaginative minds, though I’m betting that she’ll hop on board right away.
Kumin-senpai is so happy-go-lucky and naïve in a way it’s funny. She takes all the craziness from Yuuta and Rikka in and goes with it – it looks like so much fun! Magic, running in the park in the middle of the night, she’s all up for it. I’ve yet to meet a senpai in real life that is this easygoing and ditsy, although I think I’d like to 8)
I’d like to take this moment to express my admiration Rikka’s oneechan and the way she deals with her crazed younger sister and her friends so well, I’m impressed. I loved the way she handled Yuuta and totally blackmailed him into helping out with the cat. She also makes using a ladle as a weapon look cool, which seems to be the trend recently – turning household items deadly. Guns? Pshhh, frying pans and ladles are the new in. She’s an awesome older sister that’s to be feared and also formidable opponent for Rikka.
Magic – it’s all in her head?
I LOVE those magical battle scenes! They’re done so beautifully they could be in Cardcaptor Sakura, but +1238974 animation quality. Come to think of it, why hasn’t KyoAni animated any magic anime yet? YOU’RE IN THE WRONG GENRE, GUYS. Jokes aside, I think I would have enjoyed it just as much if chu2koi was actually an anime about magic. Awesome magical powers, y u only exist in her head? To be able to dramatize such battle scenes though, you’d have to wonder what on earth is going on in her brain – anyhow, real or imaginary, I’d like to see more of this. *w*
Chu2koi this week was… moe (sorry no other adjective can more accurately summarize this show). I do wonder how they’re going to grow from here though – I can see Rikka rubbing off on Yuuta, but I can’t really see Rikka becoming a rational adult. I’m expecting to see a balance being struck between growing up and still knowing when to have fun, but I wonder how KyoAni is going to pull it off. Also, romance (actual romance which doesn’t involved ero dreams about swimming pools) will probably be coming in soon – will Yuuta go for the class president or the neighbor with the overly-imaginative mind? I don’t know what to expect from here actually – 10 more episodes of Daily Adventures with Rikka and Yuuta and Friends?

Such an awesome episode. The battle scenes were awesome and for a second I wished that the show was a magical battle anime with real battles. Rikka’s sister is epic but that’s probably because she has to deal with Rikka’s behavior on a daily basis. Although this makes me wonder why there aren’t any therapists around to treat these kids with eight grade syndrome if it is a phenomenon that happens a lot. I know that would detract from the story but as a psych major I do have to wonder…

Moe is all that we all can say about this show. But all that magical fight going on in Rikka’s head definitely make a lot of difference compare to normal moe series. It also reminds me that I used to imagine similar things in my head as well, although I don’t act it out like Rikka (still doing it once in a while~).
Rikka’s sister personality was unexpected for me but it sure mix into the humor of the show. Not to mention, she’s so cool and awesome fighting with utensils. Pfft~

I’m having a hard time deciding on which three shows have become my favorite this season. From a New World is just blowing my mind; the third episode had a killer ending. Tonari is doing the romance genre a needed shot in the arm. And this show.
I just want to take it all in my arms and give it a big hug.
At this point I don’t know if Rikka’s very rich imagination is the product of a delusional mind, or if it is a stubborn insistence on her part. Are we dealing with a psychosis or a neurosis or a brilliant mind that is on the wrong path? I do know that I am finding the “head trauma” routines are becoming more pathetic than comedic. And maybe, if ya’ll stop hitting her with kitchen ladles, she might calm down a bit.
Kumin-sempai. Where the heck did this character come from. At this point in the narrative we should be coming across an anti-thesis character. In Yutta we have someone that is not-accepting of Rikka’s behavior, but is willing to tolerate most of it in stride; just don’t mention Dark Flame Master, and he’s cool. With Kumin, we have a character that is both accepting and tolerant. No matter how unusual or awkward the situation is, she is happy to go along and experience it. And as you point out, Miyu, Shinka seems to be cut from the same cloth.
It makes me anticipate what type of character Sanea Dekomori is going to be.
I could speak inches on the battle scene, but will only point out one thing I found odd about it. There is no mistaking that Onee-sama was wielding a “souped-up” kitchen ladle in Rikka’s imagination. Yet, what they heck was Rikka using? The ratio of that thing to collapsible umbrella doesn’t even exist!

I’m hoping we don’t get any anti-thesis characters. I think it would be good to have a show where there isn’t some killjoy trying to stomp on everyone’s fun. I think it’d be enough to have the combination of Yuuta’s on again / off again trying to escape his past, Kuzuha randomly giving him grief about it, and Tooka actively fighting in Rikka’s delusions I think will be enough to set up enough tension without there needing to be another person around who scoffs at our characters.
The beauty of a collapsible umbrella is that it is something we can use all the time that actively transforms, allowing it to be a great jumping off point. Rikka just takes it a little farther than most.
It took me about 3 minutes of seeing Kumin to think that, like Yuuta seems to be the K-On! version of Houtarou Oreki, Kumin seems to be a melding of Mayaka Ibara’s looks and Tsumugi Kotobuki’s personality. Particularly that wide eyed admiration of Yuuta as he can’t help himself getting caught up with Rikka.

I agree! The whole 8th grade syndrome concept is innovative and smart as we can practically relate some of our childhood one way or another to 8th grade syndrome ^^ Which makes this show totally relatable and enjoyable for its comedy and beautiful art (hehehehehe… K-On… <3)

This show is so excellent. It just makes everything look so fun. The cast additions this week were just amazing. Kumin-senpai just adored everything from the word ‘go’, and that big-eyed look she gave Yuuta as he was fanboying about the Mauser was just so cute. And Tooka was just unbelievable, being far more tolerant of everyone’s delusions than they have any right to expect, and even though she seems like she doesn’t particularly enjoy it, it’s one of those things that you know she does, because she wouldn’t bother to engage in it if she didn’t. And she’s definitely got the moves to back it up, with that awesome jump over the balcony.
I also like the crush that Rikka has on Yuuta. They haven’t really pushed much about it, but her repeated insistence that he call her Rikka, her hanging around with him, even her ‘sacrifice’ for him and Kumin.
I can’t wait for more of this show, and I hope that Dekomori is as interesting as the other characters have been, because she certainly looks like she will be.

I know. I hope someone somewhere realizes this. There were brief awesome scenes in Haruhi like this (e.g. the fight against the cricket “data life form”). I would love to see them seriously tackle a fantasy adventure series.

I find myself respectfully disagreeing with you Joojoobees. In part, anyway. The temptation is there, but I don’t think I am quite ready to give up on how they capture magical realism so well. This show, Hyouka before it, and Haruhi from many years ago are about our reactions to the heights of imagination, while keeping the focus on the real world. There are plenty of studios that are doing great with fantasy and science fiction, but few can work the real world like Kyo Ani can.

You’re following 11 series? Heh, that’s the number I currently have. It could increase or decrease in the meantime and that’s not including the ongoing animes from last season.
However, this anime is really funny. Gotta squeeze in some comedy with all the action shows going around like Zetsuen no Tempest, Psycho-Pass, Jormungand: Perfect Order and Code: Breaker. I’m glad Yuuta’s around to serve as a translator whenever Rikka goes into her fantasy episodes. I almost get confused every time if I’m not paying close attention.
Since Yuuta and Rikka will be seeing more of each other, there’s a chance he might have a relapse with Eighth Grade Syndrome. Rikka is becoming more and more persuasive while he’s showing little resistance.
Rikka calls her sister a priestess? Not even close. I peg more as a demon with her piercing red eyes, the way she heartlessly and emotionlessly blackmailed Yuuta and skillfully attacking people with something as blunt and simple as a ladle. She does make it look awesome. Hell, the Sawagi twins from Ben-To made using baskets look like lethal weapons.

Even though I ended up laughing at the hijinks involving Rikka and her sis… But I find her to be cruel with her blackmailing and her treatment to Rikka. Then again, she has to deal with Rikka 24/7….

This is my favourite anime this season, ok it’s tied with Sakura-sou no Pet na Kanojo.
Speaking of which, will episode one be reviewed anytime soon? It could become something quite interesting with 24 episodes and the ending will be released along the ending of the novels.
