Our amazing body swap adventure continues this week with Nyaruko-san! I wasn’t really sure on that theme appearing in this series, but hey it was alright and made for some great comedy last week. Mahiro-“Wake me up when I get my original body back…”               Nyaruko-“Ku ku ku never!”

Kurei-“THIS IS SO GOOD GUYS! AHHH!!”              Mahiro-“Dude…you need some help…seriously.”

Things start up with the class and homeroom teacher reacting to the lovely confession from Nyaruko to Mahiro, but our fake Mahiro gets kicked on the face! Every time he beats up Nyaruko, he is technically kicking his own ass and it makes me laugh. Poor guy… Anyway Nyaruko has no problems being stuck inside Mahiro’s body. Kurei eventually arrives to deliver the news that her special machine is still charging and she has been up for days playing some RPG game. I see the alien is using her body for good. Oh and did you know the aliens want to blow up the earth, because apparently earth no longer exists in future because they decided to blow it up. So, who else is suffering from a stolen body/mind? Mahiro’s best friend Yoichi is also caught up in all this body swapping business.

Mahiro-“What the hell is this crap?”                 Kuuko-“I dunno but we should run away quickly.”

Nyaruko-“Nooooooooooo! Powerful laser to the heart is my greatest weakness.”

Yoichi’s character has always been quiet and stuck in the background, but this week he shows off another side to him after the aliens take over his body making him an extremist for their master plan to destroy the earth. So, why do they want to blow up earth anyway? I guess the aliens aka Space Child Guardian blames all his problems on earth’s anime, manga and every other form of entertainment that promotes “random sexual acts”…sure why not! Just blame all the anime for every crime in space. While the Space Child Guardian gives his random speech, Kuuko, Hastur, Mahiro, Nyaruko and Yoichi fight off some random tentacles, but sorry to say there was no fan-service at all from those tentacles you would think so wouldn’t you? Before anyone can defeat the tentacle army one of them uses a laser cannon to “kill” off Nyaruko. Just kidding, the magic rock that Mahiro kept in his pocket saved the day allowing Nyaruko to have a long kissing scene thanks to that fake death scene.

Yoichi-“You are my best friend, random alien girl.”               Alien-“Help…me…”

After Nyaruko’s near death experience Kurei manages to finish recharging her device to return everyone back to their original bodies, but Kurei and Yoichi are still being used by aliens for a while longer especially the alien that took over Kurei’s body; because that alien got addicted to video games and wanted to finish the game before leaving earth for good. The following day at school Mahiro discovers the entire class has not forgotten his “confession” to Nyaruko. Bringing him to realize his life at school is pretty much screwed forever and ever…you should seek some advice from Ayumu of Kore wa zombie.

Colony dropping in Nyaruko-san? Yes!

Nyaruko-“BEHOLD MY AWESOME POWER!”

This week we were hit with several Gundam inspired references such as the colony drop from the original moble suit Gundam, also used in every other Gundam series like Seed and Destiny, but we had even more from Seed aka Neutron Jammer with the Space CQC jammers Kurei and Yoichi. Oh and did you see the quick shot of the AGE device from the current Gundam AGE? Yoichi used it to activate that giant eye statue. There were several stabs at Evangelion with Nyaruko using an AT-Field to block some tentacles and the cruel angel’s kiss quote? HELL YES! This was filled with tons of mecha parodies this week and it made me very happy. Of course I have to give credit to that blog for the assistance on some of the reference material…

End thoughts

Hooray! The body swapping story has officially ended. I thought they were going to drag that out for another episode, but it wasn’t so bad I mean we got to listen to the actors from Nyaruko and Mahiro switch roles. So, good work to those two for doing an amazing job; however, the biggest highlight for me were the mecha filled references this week from Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam AGE, Gundam SEED and Evangelion! I know there were more from other series, but those ones jumped at me very easily.

So, now that the bodies are returned to normal, you really have to wonder how Mahiro plans to recover the social damage left behind by Nyaruko…I mean he can’t really tell the other students. the aliens messed with their bodies. Seriously they would just burst out laughing. There was one interesting reveal involving Kurei and her alien figuring out who she has a crush on, but who? Was it Mahiro or possibly Yoichi? Those two are together all the time. And, who voiced that yellow alien that slept next to Kurei? I think it was Satomo, Arai who voices Shanta-kun and her famous Kuroko from Railgun…
