Haiyoru Nyaruko-san – 04

Anime moms have the coolest jobs don’t they?

Welcome back, moe Lovecraft fans out there; I hope you are having fun watching this crazy anime! The best part every week for me is listening to Nyaruko-san act completely insane with every passing episode, anyway enough chatter for now it is time to get down to business. Mahiro’s mom arrives and reveals she is a deity hunter. Also a certain blond “boy” finally arrives.

Yosuga no Sora reference? fufufufu just kidding…or…was…it!?

Starting things off this week, we pick right up with Mahiro on the phone with his mother who was finally coming home, but this causes our main character to spaz out as he throws Nyaruko and Kuuko out of his house so he can clean the place up… However, the two sneak back into the house and Mahiro’s mom witnesses the three of them getting a bit rough with each other. After seeing her son form a human pretzel with Nyaruko and Kuuko, the two introduce themselves and Mahiro’s mom reveals she is a part time deity hunter… Which instantly scares the two aliens. Thankfully, Shanta-kun was there to calm things down, opening the doors for a civilized conversation between aliens and the deity hunter. Oh and Mahiro’s mom is also quite deadly with a fork just like her son.

Yoriko-“Alright, Aliens! Who wants to get forked first?”              Nyaruko-“ME! OH GOD PLEASE PICK ME!”

Yoriko-“Thank you so much, tiny cute creature, you have calmed me down for now.”

Kuuko-“Please allow me to warm up dat ass for the fans.”                      Nyaruko-“Nooooooo!!”

Yoriko-“Fine, you get Mahiro in the morning and I’ll get him at night.”          Mahiro-“Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh!?”

In the meantime, two new characters prepare to make their grand entrances; aka Hastur and a woman with green hair named Ruuhii Jisuton. However, this episode follows Hastur a lot more than Ruuhii for now. The next morning Kuuko and Nyaruko get scared off by Mahiro’s mother for fighting each other and they head to school fast leaving Mahiro alone so he can have a special run in with Hastur, who appears to be searching for someone only to get himself lost in the process. After school, Mahiro finds Hastur again and takes him out to get some food where they magically find Nyaruko and Kuuko hanging out, but we all know they pretty much just stalked his ass anyway.

Green hair versus yellow hair, who will win this hair battle…?!

Mahiro-“Not…sure if this is a cute moe blob or wasp themed character.”

Nyaruko-“KAAAA MAAAA HAAAAA…”                              Kuuko-“This hand of mine is burning…”

Hamburgers in Japan will get you so high!

So, who is Hastur anyway? Easy answer! He knows Kuuko and Nyaruko, thus making him the third damn alien to invade Mahiro’s life of course. His main reason for arriving on earth is to find someone named Yoriko Yasaka aka Mahiro’s mom… I guess Hastur’s boss sent him to find Yoriko; so does this mean she works for an alien? The episode ends shortly afterwards with everyone staring in shock! Even the side “boss” character Ruuhii is shocked at this new development.

Hastur-“Sorry girls, but Mahiro is going to be my new onii-chan…”          Mahiro-“OH HELL NO!”

Extra moe lovecraft

D’awwww the ultimate power of family bonding…

Sanity points I can has?

Nyaruko-“I was seriously made for this role!”

Double thumbs up, if you love Nyaruko’s expressions.

Kuuko-“I will never ever wash this pillow!”               Nyaruko-“Dude…you are so nasty.”

Interesting episode this week, even though I would say it wasn’t as knock down funny as the other episodes, but it had plenty of hilarious facial reactions from Nyaruko as always. Like her face for every “yes” comment; those were some great reactions and she even lost her own sanity points. So, what about Mahiro’s mother? Anyone else feel that whole accepting Kuuko and Nyaruko into her “family” was way too predictiable? I mean of course we all have seen enough anime in our lifetime to realize she was always going to agree to let them stay. Then again she did try to attack them with all those forks! So maybe she wasn’t really open about letting the two aliens stay with them…

So what else!? I noticed this episode was lacking in the reference department versus the previous episodes or did I just completely miss them? I did crack up after I saw the car Ruuhii was driving, every time I see a DeLorean I think of Back to the future… So, who is Ruuhii anyway? I guess she is the rival of Yoriko or is she after Hastur? Either way, damn she has me really interested for the next episode. And now let me get to the next cast member to join with Hastur! I know she is voiced by the tsundere queen Rie Kugimiya, but she did not sound anything like her previous loli characters. That said, I think it is safe to say Hastur will probably come off as the “quiet” character that will obviously develop a man crush on Mahiro for some bromance action or maybe it will be like an older brother/younger brother relationship?

And finally we have the whole Yoriko/Hastur connection leaving me to question who Yoriko really works for! I will laugh my ass off if she is part of the same organization along with Kuuko and Nyaruko. Also we can finally see where Mahiro gets his awesome fork skills from. Overall, there really wasn’t a lot to actually talk about this week, but I am sure next week will give us some possible fighting with Yoriko versus Ruuhii! And of course we will have more Hastur/Mahiro bonding together in a special way…

Nyaruko works on her drifting skills next week.

Ruuhii versus Yoriko for the ultimate woman battle royal or bromance adventures with Hastur…

Is huge anime fan from Florida! who loves to watch anime and also enjoys drawing and collecting pictures, my favorite genre of anime has to be Mecha, there is just something awesome about giant robots beating the crap out of each other! I have a feeling that Mahiro’s mom hugs him every so often so she can regain 1d10 Sanity Points…

    *coughs*

Anyway, Ruhi is the stand-in for Cthulhu in Nyaruko-san. While she had a slightly comedic role in the flash animation shorts (evil takoyaki ahaha), it’s obvious how this isn’t the case in this series, which is sticking closer to the LN material. Why is she after Mahiro’s mom? That’s like asking why any Call of Cthulhu/Delta Green campaign tends to have a 90% attrition rate for Investigators.

…my DG games went that way because of derp players…But then, I am a nasty Keeper. What part of They Show Up, You Lose do you think more DAKKA will solve?

      • Myssa Rei says:

        Related.

As usual with these types of things, I had to go with the occupation in the Investigator’s Companion, as nothing in the main rulebook matches up.

For those who’re not familiar with the ruleset, Call of Cthulhu’s rulebook by the way actually specifies that, if you’re making a character, you should specialize on a very narrow skill set (just two or three, with Library Use one of them), and just fill in your deficiencies with the skills of your companion players/Investigators. I usually like to spread Education and Personal interest points around though to be useful in more than a few situations, and this is reflected in this sheet.

Feel free to change things if my interpretation (based on subsequent episodes likely) is incorrect.

Good gravy, those forks must be adding one helluva bonus to her Persuasion. If I was a Keeper for that character I would be saying “good luck trying to convince any Fear stat based critter with that score”.

On stat notes, I always always always sacrifice Appearance for Power. I usually play the ugliest smelliest character that can read a Mythos Tome and make a Byakhhee dance.

ahahah yeah Mahiro’s mom is feeding off some hidden energy inside Mahiro <3 <3

Ahhhh good to know on Ruhi's role in the anime series!

I’m having a lot of fun with this show but… this episode gave me one my… moments that I sometimes have with anime. It came when Yoriko commented on how nice her husband was to ‘let her work a part time job’. I actually had to pause the video for a bit to calm down. By banging my head against the wall shouting ‘NICE? LET? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS SOCIETY?’

    • Foshizzel says:

Ahahaha yeah poor Yoriko I guess they have a certain way to go about her character? Lolol agreed what is wrong with them lol…

  3. Rakuen says:

    Yellow hair is clearly superior!

So yeah, this was a weak episode for me. I didn’t notice very many things that even seemed like they’d be references. Maybe they’re just being more subtle about it?

Also, what on earth is so dangerous about forks…

    • Foshizzel says:

Wuahahah yellow for the win <3

Yeah this episode was meh this week and not very reference filled at all! I guess the arrival of three new characters might make things very interesting next week.

OLOLO I know right? I have no idea xDDD

  4. skylion says:

    Shanta-kun?! Why you so trap?!

  5. BlackBriar says:

What a coincidence. Sure, accepting Kuuko and Nyaruko into the mother’s “family” was way too predictiable. But what are the odds that she would turn out to be a deity hunter when the two girls in the house are deities? Now I see where Mahiro gets his fork stabbing genes from and she’s a gamer. Nice!!!

Arrgh!! Hatsur is too convincing a trap. I understand Mahiro’s reaction when he found out.

Kuuko-“Please allow me to warm up dat ass for the fans” Looks like we have another stalker with an ass fetish.

    • skylion says:

An ass fetish is due rigeur, have it or don’t have any fetishes.

      • BlackBriar says:

True. You’re right. Either that or none at all. Nice French wordplay, by the way, Skylion. But you misspelled the phrase. It’s “du rigueur”.

        • skylion says:

          Good catch BB. Fock me.

          • BlackBriar says:

Thanks. It’s my second language, that’s why I recognized it right away but I speak english a lot more than I speak French.

            • Foshizzel says:

French? Whoa this is awesome! I know no other languages T____T

    • Foshizzel says:

Yay for two more arrivals er three? Yesssss soon there will be three deities living with Mahiro…after that things will get insane around his house! Yeah I like his mom she plays games and uses forks to battle with.

Hastur! He err she exists to make the guys question if they like that “character” or something…

Lololl Dat ass is all about the animu world xD

      • BlackBriar says:

For a loner, Mahiro sure is accumulating a lot of unwanted inhuman roommates. I can’t really consider him normal either. He tends to attack aliens by stabbing or throwing forks whenever they make him angry. He appears to attack so fast that currently no alien has been able to dodge yet.

I like Mahiro’s mom, too. She, however, has a young appearance that makes it hard to believe that she has a son in high school. At least the difference here is that she’s his biological mother and looks hot unlike Haruka from Guilty Crown who’s just Shu’s stepmother but still really hot as well.

Yeah, battling with forks but she appears to be better skilled and can carry more forks than her son. They both use forks, Ben-To’s Shaga uses chopsticks while the Orthros twins use baskets, Nazo no Kanojo’s Mikoto uses a pair of scissors and Senjougahara uses a stapler. What aren’t they going to use as weapons?

I checked it out on Wikipedia and there’s no denying it. Rie Kugimiya’s character Hastur is definitely a male. First Phi Brain’s Ana and now this. Uhhhh….

        • Foshizzel says:

Being Mahiro is suffering basically? Damn all dem roomates! And it looks like Hastur is all over him in the next episode…hopefully that is more of a hug based relationship! I can only hope ahahahah

Hot moms of anime!? Sounds like a short list of anime moms I can only think of Toradora, Guilty Crown and now Haiyoru? Good times…man…good times.

Whoaaaaa yeah there are several awesome weapons in the anime universe it almost makes me want to do a top ten “odd weapons of anime” post.

Amazing! Maybe this will be a chain of new Rei Kugimiya themed characters since she lost Louise and Shana for now…I just can’t help myself and thing that JC Staff has some hidden movie in the works or a cross-over?! OMG…
