Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou – 05

This is what happens when you lose your contacts…

Hello everyone! 😀 I’m feeling very sleepy but awesome now because I just started on FFXIII-2! I am a rabid fangirl of Square Enix and their mad gorgeous graphics so I grabbed the Limited Collector’s Edition (at $97 ;_;) and it is absolutely brilliant. I’m expecting this week of Nichibros, though, to be another kind of brilliant. xD

And our awesome trio is back! After school, they come across a group of excited middle school girls jumping around and decide to sit down on a bench to… observe them. *waggy eyebrows* Stalker much? They begin hilariously dubbing the interactions between the girls – from dried abalone to mochi to saving the world… which ends up in those girls staring at them with accusing looks. Our favorite trio – forever misunderstood.

We get to see Motoharu and his beloved onee-san once again, this time with her own friends around her. Looks like you picked the wrong time to walk in Motoharu. Being the very superior senpais they are, they begin poking fun at him, forcing him to do embarrassing things. Imagine a teenage boy having his hair tied into two ponytails, and yeah you get the idea. xD Then, imagine that very same teenage boy being told that the girls were going to be sleeping over. Poor, poor soul.

That moment when you know you’re screwed…

Hey Motoharu, lookin’ stunning

Student council committee time! This week, the Nichibros student council committee desperately begs the East High president to lend them some equipment due to last minute preparations. This somehow leads to them spouting some really misleading statements, and an unassuming passerby interrupts them, intending to save the damsel in distress. After a dramatic fairytale-like scene, it turns out that the boys had lost to him on purpose, hiding the fact that they actually did know the East High president to save the pride of a fellow male. However, East High’s president also happens to be incredibly dense, effectively ruining their entire plan. Sigh, all that effort wasted. xD

Hidenori and Yoshitake coincidentally run into their old friend Kiyotaka, with an unnamed girl clutching tightly onto his sleeve. They immediately assume that he’s on a date with his girlfriend (who is also, by the way, staring at them with eyes full of hatred) and make excuses to leave, but Kiyotaka insists on making them stay. The awkwardness escalates as they venture into rather sensitive topics while having dinner together, and Hidenori finally breaks, pointing out that his girlfriend is sitting right there. Oh, you mean this girl? She’s his sister, of course! Turns out he had to bring his sister home due to her lack of contacts, which also explains that deadly glare.

You get a kick in the ass for being too dense!

Now onto Hidenori’s past! Would you have ever imagined that such a hilarious guy like Hidenori would have been bullied when he was young? ;_; But not to fear, for an anonymous savior at the shrine, going by the name of Rubber Shooter, vows to help him whenever he is in trouble. Ever since that fateful incident when Rubber Shooter saved him, Hidenori has always looked up to him… A lot of years later, he revisits the shrine in a moment of nostalgia, and runs up when he hears a familiar tune Rubber Shooter used to hum, only to find out that Rubber Shooter is actually… YOSHITAKE?! And this was how Hidenori’s childhood idol was ruined forever.

Bunka Shoujo is back this week, with Hidenori as her target once again. Being the ever-awesome and fluent Hidenori, he begins his dramatic monologue by talking about… yes, the weather, of all things, all over again. Not only that, he continues branching off this topic, earning an incredulous chuckle from Bunka Shoujo. Oh Hidenori, even she is disappoint. xD

It’s even worse than finding out that unicorns don’t exist…

This week on Jyoushi Kousei wa Ijyou, we continue from the duel between the high school girls and unfortunate Karasawa. Now subject to their verbal and physical torture in return for giving them expired goodies, Karasawa desperately tries to defend himself… and then he takes of his hat, and we FINALLY get to see what’s under it. A huge gash lines his forehead, and suddenly the girls go quiet, apologizing profusely for their mistake. Looks like someone scarred his face for life. Well, at least they’ll leave him alone for now… I hope.

“I’ll pay you however much you want, just don’t tell my mommy.” ;_;

It’s funny how every character in this show seems to get misunderstood in one way or another, multiple times! Something they say or do always ends up having a suggestive tone/meaning to it, and then that leads to other people perceiving it differently, in turn resulting in a whole series of chain events that just get worse… and more hilarious at the same time HAHA. I wonder if real high school boys are this misunderstood. ARE WE NOT SEEING THEM FOR WHO THEY TRULY ARE? xD

I’m definitely getting used to those anticlimactic endings. While watching the one about Hidenori’s childhood, I already expected Rubber Shooter (what kind of superhero name is that by the way I don’t even) to be someone familiar. And it did turn out to be someone hilariously familiar, I mean, Yoshitake? Poor Hidenori’s dreams are crushed FOREVER. Better luck sticking with your favorite singer or something, Hidenori. xD I do wonder though, if they will manage to surprise us with something other than anticlimactic endings in subsequent episodes, that still brings the same comical element to it. Right now for me, although I’m still laughing at the silly jokes they make, but it just doesn’t have that original effect anymore – it’s no longer surprising me with different, new things. I guess it’s become kind of predictable? I honestly don’t have a lot of experience in watching slice of life anime, so I can’t be a perfect judge of it either, but I just think that perhaps it’s getting a little drier than before. My opinion! I will be very happy indeed though, if the next episode manages to surprise me once again. 😀

I do like how we’re still revisiting the old characters despite the new additions of different characters with each episode, though. This episode had our beloved trio, the student council committees, Motoharu and his onee-san, bunka shoujo, high school girls and Karasawa! That’s some kind of record, isn’t it? xD I feel a rather equal sense of attachment to most of the characters now and that’s what’s making the show awesome to me. I appreciate all of their quirky personalities regardless of how extremely weird they can be… xD The love of an otaku is invincible!

By the way, middle school girls are not like that, I swear. HAHA. I’m on my 4th year of middle school right now, and we’re very sophisticated, sane beings… yeah okay maybe not. But seriously, we don’t go around jumping and squealing and squeezing boob in public, WE REALLY DON’T.

Preview: Next week on Nichibros, it’s finally Christmas! Well yes it’s 2 months late but let’s just let the small details slide, shall we? 8D

A stressed-out jyoushi kousei doubling as Metanorn's loli with a soft spot for sappy romance animanga. She will watch anything with bishies in it. :3

I can imagine on the Tadakuni, Yoshitake or Hidenori talking about/reinacting/making a shout out to Tachibana Junichi’s scene in Amagami SS where he was stood up by his date, since Christmas in Japan is more about couples than celebration of the Christ’s birth.

By the way, where’d you watch the subs? All anime sites I know of still have the RAW version of this episode.

    • Bob from Accounting says:

Subs are up on Animefreak, where I watch. Can’t speak for other places.

This might have been the best episode so far. Particularly the ‘dubbing’. It was just so… relatable.

    • Miyu says:

…I have no idea what you’re talking about D: *does not watch Amagami SS* but yes hehe in Japan it seems as if couples are the center of attention :3

I usually torrent the anime episodes which I need to cover episodics for, but when I stream other series I usually go to animecrazy.net, which has fast updates 😀

      • The_Magus_Killer says:

Watch it. It may not have bishies, but its a nice romance anime nonetheless.

    • Kyokai says:

Just use nyaa.eu for fast torrent updates. Best source, hands down.

this got to be the best episode for Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou ,I mean i did’t even have to watch the episode to know that this is good

  3. Karry says:

But seriously, we don’t go around jumping and squealing and squeezing boob in public, WE REALLY DON’T.

    Well, maybe not in public…

  4. Hawthorne says:

Towards the end I started tearing up from laughing so hard, this episode was so great. XD I loved the K-ON reference too! I love this show so much.

I do like how we’re still revisiting the old characters despite the new additions of different characters with each episode, though.

I agree! I love seeing all the characters pop up from time to time. Literary girl, Karasawa, and hairpin/glasses girl are my favorites though!

    • Miyu says:

Weekly laughter pill brings much joy indeed. xD Yesss exactly! I like bunka shoujo a lot haha she’s such an interestingly weird (yet typical in the sense of high school girls being romantic dreamers) character.

Are you as misunderstood as our high school boys here too Robb? xD

      • Hawthorne says:

If I had to compare my daily misunderstandings to someone from the show, I’d say I’m a cross between contacts girl and Tadakuni. =_=

  5. Samantha Zan says:

Lol another funny episode, the dubbing was so funny. I did that with my friends once, and it was a pretty funny turnout like that xD.

Poor Hidenori, finding out his childhood hero was Yoshitake all along XD. Poor high school boys, so many misunderstandings as you said Miyu XD! Though it made those shorts funny as heck though XD

    • Miyu says:

Really?! I should probably try doing that too, when I get the chance to >D
Exactly, I would die if my childhood idol turned out to be one of my silly friends HAHA. I like how they get misunderstood so often as it brings laughter yes hehehe.

  6. Toori-chan says:

Lol at Hidenori’s troll face!!! I was seriously LMAO when I saw that face and was still laughing whenever I think of it. *giggles*

    • Miyu says:

ALL THEIR FACES ARE AMUSING HAHA I love the facial expressions in this show! xD Even though the art style may not be eye candy, but it suits the genre and easygoing mood of the show~

  7. The_Magus_Killer says:

After watching this episode with subtitles, my favorite segments are:

    1. Motoharu with his onee-san Mino (why hasn’t the show given faces to at least the other Imouto/Onee-san/Sister characters?). Also, the looks the girls were giving Motoharu practically said “UR GONNA GET RAPED!!!” LOL.

    2. Rubber Shooter! (which means Yoshitake bleached his hair sometime after he became friends with Hidenori and Tadakuni)

    3. Hidenori and Literature Girl III (it’s like Kyon was speaking instead of Hidenori), especially when Literature Girl showed her excited/aroused side with her fang. DAT FANG.

Now I’m all set for the Christmas episode where the boys will try getting dates for Christmas Eve and failing as high school boys only can.

^ This is Literature Girl. And you’re gonna get mind-raped. LOL. DAT FANG. AND THEM EYES.

  9. Kyokai says:

Another funny episode and the highlight has to be Fukuyama Jun voicing not just one but TWO roles in a single episode. The one-eyed do-gooder and the megane-kun friend with a scary sister. Not to mention, Romi Paku as Rubber Shooter?! I know Gintama had a thing for guest seiyuu but I was pretty happy that NichiBROS are experimenting with it as well.

Poor Karasawa, bullied at childhood for that scar. Tsk.

  10. Joojoobees says:

I’m so impressed with the realism of this show. Young women are well known for their brutal violence and endless bullying. It isn’t all about TEA, guys. Watch this show and get the real story!

  11. anaaga says:

This episode is makes up for the boredom I had from last week’s episode. Yeah, I wasn’t laughing that hard last week.

    Tsk, showing off your FF XII-2. I want to ;___;
