Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou – 02

Just because I think this pantsu makes my hair look nice, doesn’t mean you can judge me!

Ah, it’s time for the daily lives of high school boys again! My life in an all girls’ school has never been as randomly crazy and hilarious as theirs xD But that’s good anyway, this show will be my laughter pill every week from now onwards!~

This week, we get a peek of how the journey back home from school is like for our awesome trio. It begins as a typical walk (then again with them, nothing much stays normal for long) until Tadakuni notices something strange lying on the road… *gasps* A STICK!! Which sends them into full-RPG mode and they battle it out with the stick (which is now a deadly sword) and an umbrella… whaaat? Tadakuni and Hidenori take on the roles of travelers aiming to reach the “King’s castle”, defeat the demon lord and take over his position. Oh, and Yoshitake also happens to be a normal mob, a mid-boss and the demon lord xD Their little game ends when they realize their bags were left behind ages ago… Jeez, these boys.

The next story is centered around Tadakuni’s part-time job at a pizza shop, with his co-workers Nago and Yasunori. They start talking about looks and popularity, and somehow end up chiding Nago-san for not trying hard enough to improve her looks. Guys, are you sure you want to criticize a lady about her looks? Nago-san gets irritated and decides to show her true colors, prettying herself up and actually opening her eyes fully and holy— who knew she was going to be such a beauty?

And so the moral of the story is: don’t judge a book by its cover, kids

Back at home, imouto-san is not happy. Her underwear is missing again, so naturally she’s accusing the perverted trio for stealing them like before. She orders them to find the culprit, lest they face her wrath. The trio diligently looks out for the culprit in their backyard… and then Yoshitake realizes that his two friends are wearing bras. Settling his inner debate, he decides to be a “good friend” and follows his buddies’ examples, putting on her pantsu in a rather fashionable manner, to say the least. Of course, imouto-san chooses this moment to walk in and they have to face her wrath once again… *gulps*

Anddd we’re back at the riverbank and this time it’s with Motoharu though, and he too, starts a conversation with Literary Girl with an ~ inspirational quote~ about the wind—that is, until he realizes that HE HAD BEEN SPEAKING TO THE WRONG GIRL. -shot-

Indeed, true friends will stick together through everything – even if it means stealing your younger sister’s lingerie

The trio complain to Karasawa about participating in their traditional school event of picking up rubbish in the neighbourhood, and decide to approach the principal to question the purpose of their random school events after reading about fasting for 70 hours?! The principal breaks into a dramatically exaggerated story about how one of the previous principals had stood 70 hours in an attempt to save the school back in 1984—And then Karasawa points out the not-so-insignificant fact that the school was only founded in 1989!

When Motoharu and his onee-chan are on a leisurely walk back home in the evening, she comments about how easy-going their brother-sister relationship is. Shortly after, they get into a childish argument about their childhood experiences together on the riverbank. Turns out the argument just needed to be settled with a practical, actual reminder about the very fun “game” they played. After that, I’m sure Motoharu won’t be retorting against his sister again.

What do you mean we won’t get any yaoi action in this show?!

And what were you saying about our height difference again?

Scary ghost stories, round two! Hidenori starts it off by recalling about a certain strand of 3cm long white-colored eyebrow hair, then Yoshitake cuts in, not to be beaten. He retells his story about how he washed his face so hard, his finger accidentally plunged into his nostril (???), emitting a crunching sound… *shudders* Tadakuni ends off once again about an occasion during which he saw Kawasawa take off that hat he always wears, eliciting cries of anticipation about what on earth was under that hat from his friends. Tadakuni totally trolls them and refuses to tell them on the premise of protecting Kawasawa’s privacy – only thing is, poor Kawasawa had just arrived at his house to join their little story-telling session, and now he has to be subjected to the sudden interest they have taken in his hat.

This week’s bonus – the daily life of a lady. It begins with Lady Yukana acting like a total spoilt brat and refusing to to to school, and her three (unfortunately, not very sexy) butlers Nagase, Asano and Toyogawa. Yukana demands her butlers to help her think of reasons to skip schools, but they all seem to have bucketfuls of ridiculous excuses up their sleeves. She gives up hope on them and yells at them to be serious, and then her false tooth promptly falls out. Toyogawa picks it up with surprisingly incredible speed… and proceeds to use it as a weapon against his other two butlers. How mature. Yukana gets upset with her butlers’ teasings, and decides even school is better than this.

Omg, you mean there’s hair under that hat?! TROLLOLOLOL

Seems like someone has a false tooth fetish…

I had been looking forward to this all week since last week’s awesome first episode and indeed, it did bring me some much-needed humor and laughter 8D Although I personally think the previous episode had its funnier moments, this episode was also very entertaining as I’m beginning to fall in love with all the characters in this anime. Our main trio is as amusing as ever, and I find it funny how Tadakuni usually starts out as the sane, logical one and then afterwards ends up going crazy and doing stupid things with his silly friends. It reminds me of my friends in real life – I guess every clique must also have its very own insane extroverts who liven up the atmosphere xD

The background music in this anime is also brilliant, I must say, with gentle calming songs for riverbank scenes (LUL) and heavy metal music for impending wrath of imouto-san… xD I have also grown to like the opening song a lot – it fits the entire anime, genre and its characters so well, and also has a catchy tune *__* what more can you ask for? We finally get to listen to the full, proper ending song this time and it’s hilarious xD The scenes of the play flashed made absolutely no sense at all, but the song itself is adorable with a bubbly feel to it, even if it didn’t have the best vocals.

All in all, episode 2 has been awesome for me! For a slice of life anime, all that really matters to me is that the characters can capture your interest and those little snippets of everyday life are entertaining and amusing. #Nichibros (I will never be able to express how much love I have for this hashtag going around on twitter xD) has certainly done both of that, and I’ll be looking forward to subsequent episodes filled with nonsense and laughter!

What do you mean we won’t get any yaoi action in this show?! <– omg that comment killed me. Miyu your awesome! I enjoyed the butler's chasing each other around with the false tooth *giggles* too amusing!

Does anyone else think he looked like Hey Arnold with the pantsu separating his hair?

    • Miyu says:

Aww thank you! <3 and yes SUCH A PERFECT SETTING FOR BROMANCE -fujoshi mode-

Yeah the butlers appeared so serious at first and then they turned out to be so cracky xD Amusing indeed.

  2. Bob from Accounting says:

This show is just glorious. I’m feeling even more confident about my ‘best of season’ prediction now. Just… fantastic.

    • Miyu says:

It never fails to cheer you up every week huh xD Best slice of life anime I’ve watched in a long time~

  3. Samantha Zan says:

IMOUTO!!!!!!!! Just love how Hidenori says that XD. I definitively think episode 1 had more LOL moments, but this episode definitely had some good shorts too. Though I don’t think any of the sections had any favoritism in me….but I though the beginning with the RPG kind of thing was pretty hilarious X3

    • Miyu says:

I enjoy Imouto-chan as a character too xD she plays the potentially-deadly younger sister role hurhur. Yeah, the first episode was funnier but this entertained me too~~ Silly boys, starting an RPG game with a STICK!! XD

  4. Ying says:

I thought the first episode was funnier but this had it’s moments too. The ending song was funny and that last part with the butlers was my favorite part of the episode.

For some odd reason though, that blue haired butler reminded me of Kaito (vocaloid) when he was teasing the others with the fake tooth

    • Miyu says:

Agreed, the ending song was so nonsensical and hilarious xD
The butlers were such comical characters xP FALSE TEETH

Come to think of it, he does kinda remind me of Kaito xD if only he could sing *w*

    • Bob from Accounting says:

The butlers looked somewhat like the triplet leaders of the first gym in Pokemon BW, in my opinion.

      • Ying says:

        I’ve never played the game before so I wouldn’t know ^^;

(Is your name from yu-gi-oh Abridged btw?)

        • Bob from Accounting says:

I don’t know what you’re talking about, ya hoser. *Waves Canadian flag*

  5. Justin says:

So yes, I just learned principals can lie to a student’s face too. Oh, Nichibros 😀

    • Miyu says:

HAHA and it was so anticlimatic! Principal needs to get his facts right xD
      Nichibros ftw <3

  6. Junko says:

I was giggling like crazy at the horror stories segment, again, this week. That will easily become my favourite part if it continues

  7. The_Magus_Killer says:

Did you guys notice Nago (the grumpy glasses girl) got slimmer when she did her “kira!” pose in front of the convex mirror? XD

I actually thought Nago was a male from the Opening Song. Haha.

    • Yippy says:

Likewise. I actually thought that she would be a trap or something later on in the show.

But, a convex mirror quickly dispelled that thought…

    • Kyokai says:

The wonders of a convex mirror. :3

      • The_Magus_Killer says:

Now I have thing for glasses girls who are grumpy and only partially open their eyes. Nago-chan is my new waifu! XD

  8. Yippy says:

It was a little tame compared to last week, but the RPG and dramatic principal scene will always be comedy gold for me. XD

  9. Hime says:

Most men can’t pull off the pantsu-on-the-head look, it’s refreshing to see one who can.

  10. The_Magus_Killer says:

I’ve decided. My top 5 girls of Danshi Kokousei no Nichijou are:

    1. Nago-san (grumpy glasses-girl mode and bishoujo mode)
    2. Literature Girl
    3. Tadakuni’s imouto
    4. Motoharu’s onee-san
    5. The girl with two blush stickers on her cheeks (she hasn’t said any lines yet)

    • The_Magus_Killer says:

girl with two blush stickers = Yanagin. I got her name from a forum discussion/image board.

      • The_Magus_Killer says:

Correction: Her name is not Yanagin. It’s Ringo-chan. I stand corrected.

    • Bob from Accounting says:

Isn’t that… all of them? A ‘top five’ seems a little redundant for this particular show.

      • The_Magus_Killer says:

There are more girls (one or two more, I think) in the future episodes of Danshi no Koukousei no Nichijou. Some haven’t been featured yet.

  11. Foshizzel says:

False teeth was so freaking gooooood <3 those butlers LOLOLOL Good god and the Literature girl so good xD

  12. Mina says:

weren’t the three butlers the three friends? I think that they at least had the same seiyuus xD
I laughed through the whole episode~ this is such a good stress reliever
