Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai – 11

Welcome back friends to another review! So this series ends next week and that is really sad news, I will definitely check out the light novels and manga, I have heard some great things about from a few online buddies. Plot this week we return to the club room with Yozora bringing up something about a few lanterns near some shrine and she mentions a local festival. This festival brings up a new club activity for everyone to join in and try some Takoyaki and play a few games to win prizes, afterwards everyone gathers around and plays with some fireworks until Yozora’s hair catches fire. Yozora leaves the others after her hair got burned and she avoids going to school for a while, but she returns days later with really short hair sparking Kodaka’s memories from his past with his old childhood friend Sora aka Yozora.

Kodaka- “Dude! I want your freaking hat…it is so magical…”

Starting right off! Kodaka having a flashback from his past with his childhood friend, but he has problems trying to remember the name of his friend! That hat must have some special shield to protect that kid and his true identity? After that short moment Kodaka goes to the club room bringing Kobato along to do some last minute homework. Yozora in the meantime mentions something about a few lanterns near a shrine, you know what this means of course? FESTIVAL EVENT TIME! Also girls wearing their lovely yukatas, while eating Takoyaki while playing lots of games for amazing prizes.

Kobato-“YAHOO! WE GET TO KILL PEOPLE!”               Maria-“As long as I can eat the bodies!”

Anime food, making us drool forever…

Sena-“C…C…c..cuteeeee!!”                 Kobato-” KU KU KU I am sick of this girl…”

The next day everyone gathers and heads out to the local festival but Kodaka and Kobato have to rent a few yukatas from a rental shop, I wonder how expensive those things really are?! Not that I would wear one they look really annoying to wear. While Kodaka waits for Kobato he shares a story from his past with Sena about his mother giving us another peek into his background. He also explains why he refuses to just dye his hair to fit in with others, because it will always remind him of his mother.

Sena-“I just noticed your hair is blond…”                 Kodaka-“You really are something special…Sena.”

Finally they arrive at the festival and being to eat lots of Takoyaki and all kinds of festival food, just ask Maria who stuffs her face with every kind of food product they sell at the festival. Like any episode of Boku wa Tomodachi we have the usual competition between Sena and Yozora! Imagine what these two girls could do if they teamed up for once? Well Rika gives it her all trying to spend time with Kodaka she shows she is a pro at shooting games and wins Kodaka a brand new gaming console. Rika you are truly a boss! Seriously you are really amazing when your head is not in the gutter. Sena and Yozora eventually get tired of trying to beat each other and decide to join the others for some last minute fun with some fireworks.

Rika-“Mmmmm this is some good banana….what don’t stare at me like that..”

Yozora-“Paper rock scissors LETS DO THIS!”                    Sena-“I told you the rules confuse me..”

It’s all fun and games until someone catches their hair on fire…

During the firework display Yozora’s hair starts to burn from getting to close to the fireworks, this causes Kodaka to throw water on her hair to put out the flames out; however this has an effect on Yozora causing her to miss a few days of school. Yozora does return to school but with a really dramatic change, what change could she possibly pull? How about cutting her hair really short! I will admit that new haircut does look really cute on her. Kodaka spots her and suddenly calls out the nickname of Sora! Yozora turns and returns with Taka, this finally reveals that Yozora was Kodaka’s childhood friend from his past.

Yozora-“You are really slow, but I like slow.”                    Todaka-“…uh thanks?”

Well hello there Sena! When did you get a tattoo?

Sena-“You are not a pirate stop it!”        Yozora-“YARR! I will find the treasure and make you walk the plank!”

End thoughts

Damn this was one of the best episodes so far for this series, and sure the fan-service episodes have the best “plot” developments in the boob departments. But every once in a while the anime fan wants more from their series like drama and a few serious moments, surprisingly Boku Wa Tomodachi does this very well blending comedy, drama and the yes lots of random boob jiggles from Sena. A few months back I remember Kore wa zombie desu ka had something similar happen in one of their episodes taking a short break from the jokes to touch on some serious moments with the characters.

There were a few great moments that where amazing to watch like Rika this time during the festival stuff she was less perverted and acted very cute like her stupid senpai quote. I really loved seeing her hair down instead of that ponytail she always wears, we just need to see her without those glasses! She also handles that air gun like a pro! Damn she was great, I think she deserves her own spin off series maybe with Yukimura? That might be interesting to see…And did you notice? That cameo appearance by some Ore no Imoto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai characters? So are they saying this is the same anime universe? Or as Rika would say UNIVERSE!!

And last that huge bomb of Yozora missing school for a few days and then arriving with really short hair! That would be like Mio from K-ON! Chopping off her hair, it would look really strange. However Yozora looks quite well with that new hairstyle, but the best was Kodaka calling out Sora and then Yozora returning his nickname of Taka. That was a really great D’awwwwww moment between those two characters, now does this mean it is officially going to end up with Yozora and Kodaka hooking up? Or just them becoming friends once again! That is kind of cute how they are going to be friends once again, while I would love something more this is fine. I wonder if Yozora will cut her hair too?! You know how they operate…enjoy this lovely piece of artwork!
