Uta no Prince-sama Maji Love 1000% – 13 [END]

So long magical sparkling bishies, your fabulousness shall not be forgotten.

I’m doing this before Dantalian this week because THIS IS THE END. Uwahhh I remember when I first started watching this and my friends gave me strange looks when I told them about it…Though before I get all teary-eyed and start reminiscing, I should probably get on to the actual episode.

So to recap from last episode, Haruka’s been kicked out of the fabulous harem and Shining says that she’ll have to compose something that surpasses the ‘God of Composers’. He also asks if she’s ‘just a fan’ because she said that she only needs to hear them singing and nothing else last episode.

The bishies immediately protest because if Haruka is kicked out, than there’s no reason for them to be a harem anymore (completely ignoring all of the BL vibes they gave off during this entire anime). They threaten to break up the boy band (oh noes!), but Haruka stops them. She tells them not to miss out on this chance and that she’ll try her very best to write something for them that matches their fabulousness.

HOLY CRAP, SHINING DOES HAVE EYES.

Normally this is about the time that someone would start writing the music, but Haruka instead goes to bed and can’t sleep.

The next day, the bishies boycott their own debut by not showing up for rehearsal. Apparently no one knows where they are despite them hanging out together in the same practice room and Shining having a million and one cameras set up in the school. They talk about how Haruka is right about not missing this chance, but it’s pretty obvious that they all really love her (music. Sigh.)  and aren’t too happy with her not being there. Suddenly, Tomo comes through the door with urgent news about Haruka.

Form Tomo’s tone, you’d think that Haruka was dead or something, but instead she’s just run away to her infamous grandmother -who is actually alive by the way; I totally thought she was dead thanks to Haruka’s inner monologues-’s house. Her grandmother just thinks that she’s on summer break or something and later asks Haruka to play one of the songs she wrote for ‘those boys’ (lololol even grandmother knows about the harem, but doesn’t care).

Even though Haruka tries to act normally, she spaces out a lot and keeps flashing back to Shining kicking her out of the harem. She even tells her grandmother that she just might not go back to school. To this, her grandmother goes and plays Twinkle Twinkle on the piano, and starts talking about how much Haruka liked music as a child. They were thinking about sending her to a music school, but she was too sick with generic anime disease #1 and so they were surprised when Haruka said she wanted to go to Saotome Academy.

Haruka finally cries and hugs her grandmother while telling her about how hard it was just to sit and watch them sing while she wanted to be with them too.

LOL Even grandma gets more action than the bishies.

So Haruka decides not to run away anymore and leaves her grandmother’s house. However, when she gets outside, her harem is standing there singing to her. Since I don’t think Haruka has ever told them where her grandmother lives, the only safe assumption is that they stalked her there. Anyways, them singing again causes another drug trip that recycles animation from episode 11.

After that’s over with, the bishies awkwardly watch Haruka cry as she goes on about how only SHE is allowed to write music for the bishies and everyone else should GTFO (lol okay not really, but it’s close enough). Haruka being this selfish and out of character would normally be weird, but then Shining shows up out of nowhere and explains that this is what he WANTED her to do. Since the industry is so hectic, kind people like Haruka need to be selfish in order to survive. So yeah, Haruka gets to be the only one to write for the bishies and she didn’t even need to write any music this episode to earn that position.

There’s a quick scene with Tokiya’s ex-president and ex-manager talking to Shining on the phone, asking him to take care of Tokiya. Also, they plan on seeing one of his boy band concerts one day.

Finally, it’s the debut and everyone who has ever shown up in the anime (minus Tokiya’s president and manager) is there (plus some other guys who I assume appear in the sequel games. If anyone cares to explain this, please do). Even Cecil (who apparently DOES have magical flying powers because he’s somehow on the roof) is there.

So yeah, if you haven’t seen it enough, they sing Maji Love 1000% and there’s the full dance. That being said, the bishies all sing their respective insert song name in the second verse (I thought that was pretty clever). The concert is a success and fabulousness triumphs once again.

End Thoughts:

I can’t get over how fabulous this anime was. Let me just say now that this is probably the best otome game turned anime out there right now. Scratch that, this is the best otome game turned anime EVER. Yeah, okay. Being extremely blunt, the drama was superficial, there was very little to no character development (and when there was, it was extremely abrupt and was caused by stupid things like collecting scraps of paper or crying while saying “Don’t give up! I’ve been one sidedly obsessing over you ever since I saw your face on a screen in the city while freaking out over the noise”) and none of it made any sense. Hell, it was based off a romance game and there was little to no romance. HOWEVER, this was a great anime nonetheless.

What started out as incredibly lame and cheesy (i.e. the episodic music inserts) became pretty natural as the episodes went by. Same goes for the random over the top-ness. By the end of it, it actually seemed unnatural and weird if UtaPri wasn’t doing anything incredibly stupid or out there. But that’s what made it interesting and entertaining to watch. Where else would you see what an animated drug trip looks like? Speaking of animation, it was pretty solid throughout the whole thing. Those colours were gorgeous and same goes for the lighting they used. What surprised me the most though is probably the fact that I found every single character extremely likable. While there were times that the characters were acting so stupid I wanted to punch them in the face, they all redeemed themselves later on. Plus I was amazed by some of the voice acting in this. Miyuki Sawashiro did an AMAZING  job as Haruka and Yuuichi Nakamura’s trap voice never failed to impress me. Also, Wakamoto. I need not say anything else.

As endings go, this was pretty cheap. Having them all sing for her (after stalking her to her grandmother’s house)? Seriously? And Shining just letting her write for them because she made a speech? Lol silly me thinking that she’d actually have to write music or something to rejoin the harem. Whatever was I thinking? Lol, but if she’s ‘too kind’ for the music industry, then how the hell is Otoya ever going to survive? And that harem ending. I was upset over Haruka choosing that, but they managed to turn it around and make it hilarious. Plus the ending with all of them high fiving her before running on stage was pretty cute. I’m almost thinking that this ending is better than anything else they could have come up with (besides giving each bishie their own alternate episodes/ending like Amagami did).

The bottom line? PEOPLE SHOULD WATCH THIS. Starry Sky was terrible (don’t even get me started), Angelique wasn’t that great either and La Corda D’Oro and Hakuouki were okay, but this was better than all of them combined in my opinion. This is proof that not all otome game based anime has to be terrible. Plus, they made some money off me from me obsessively buying the games. They had to have done something right.

….And it’s over. I finally finished my second series at Metanorn! (because Sket Dance refuses to die isn’t over yet.) …. Yeah, I’ll miss this anime. Sparkling bishies, Wakamoto, extreme cheesiness and all. W-what are you looking at? I-it’s not like I’m upset or anything! *runs away*

I just had to say that I kind of disagree with you about this being better than La Corda D’Oro. But that’s probably just my preference xD! I preferred the drama in La Corda D’Oro better since some part just make sense, while UtaPri did not. Which probably why I enjoyed UtaPri in the first. Because it randomness lol But yeah, they both had different charms so that said.

(And I agree with you about StaSka being terrible. I loved the game, the anime though ruined it. I can’t believe the anime even sell)

Anyway, I will totally miss this series too. I love every song in this anime! From the OP to the characters song to group songs to the ED song! And yes, they even got me to buy the game… They are terrible lol (in a good way)

I hope other otome game that are being animated right now, will be as good as UtaPri after watching this sample!! I’m looking at you, Hiiro no Kakera!! Oh and not to forget the Heart no Kuni no Alice movie ~

La Corda is probably my second favourite, but I just liked the characters and randomness more here. Plus that 2 ep OVA for La Corda was pretty disappointing. Agreed though. They were both good in their own respects.

(Right?! Loved the games, not so much the anime.)

Ahaha they had some pretty good compositions, that’s for sure. They made money off of you too? Damn these people are good XD.

YES! I’M EXCITED FOR HIIRO NO KAKERA!!!! (even though Tamaki sounds kind of useless from what I’ve read) I’m excited for Heart no Kuni too even though that game is pretty tedious. I feel like I’ve spent more time watching a clock spin than doing anything else.

      • Mimiko ♥ says:

I guess the OVA was okay for me (because Kaji was there….). Overall though it was kind of a disappointment indeed. It should have been a whole season, instead of teasing poor fans of the anime, who wanted a sequel. But since they have manga that deliver, I guess they don’t care T__T

Heck yeah they are good, so they better bring a second season!

I haven’t played Hiiro no Kakera all the way through yet, but definitely will finish it someday. I just had to get through UtaPri game that I recently started! (I’m playing the very first version now and oh gosh the animation is so horrible…)
As for Heart no Kuni, I couldn’t agree more…. Let’s me just stick with the manga xD

I really liked the animation all in all. It stayed good quality and didn’t go derpy in anyway at all (as far as I can tell)

In general I enjoyed this series better than I thought I would, though most of it was from laughing at parts that were not supposed to be funny.

I actually really liked Hakuouki (okay only the first season I liked but still). Man Starry Sky was terribleee. I watched the first two episodes and then dropped it. I was going to stay for the seiyuus, but damn, it was so bad I couldn’t.

    • Karakuri says:

(yeah if it did, I couldn’t tell either)

SAME HERE. I still giggle a bit at that dance sequence. I might just watch this all again after I finish the games.

Hmmm, well the anime was only so-so compared to what I’ve seen so far in the game (dropped trying to play it in Jap. Waiting for the English version to come out.)YES STARRY SKY WAS TERRIBLE. The storyline itself didn’t really make any sense unless you’ve played the games and even then, the animation was derpy (thanks again, DEEN)

“Where else would you see what an animated drug trip looks like?”

    Kuuchuu Buranko. LMAO. XD

UtaPri has been more enjoyable than I thought it would be. I really want to play the game now, but I don’t have a psp. :<

    • Karakuri says:

…. never seen it. Should I? XD

This came out of the blue for me, but was super enjoyable. I’m really glad I decided to blog this. Awww ahaha the game is really fun so far (just finished Natsuki’s route). If you ever get a psp, I totally recommend it.

  4. Junko says:

I’m not going to lie, I was in this for the eye candy. I found this series a million times more awkward than Blood-C but who cares, they’re cute.

I wrote a more interesting ending on my tumblr and just replaced my memory with it. Done. I’m okay now.

  5. Kyokai says:

Disappointing end to a promising bishiness. Even if I hate Haruka’s guts, she should have ended up with Tokiya. >>

Congrats on finishing another series on Metanorn. :3

    • Karakuri says:

Agreed, but the same could probably be said for all harem based shows… Ugh I would have been fine with her ending with anyone.

      Thanks Kyo~!

  6. Hime says:

You MUST let us know how you get on with the games.

UtaPri was surprising. It could so easily have been another Starry Sky, but it really had a great style and fun plot (if I can call it that).

    • Karakuri says:

I fully intend to! Unfortunately I have a paper due and so the schedule I set out to finish is is behind schedule (ironically).

I found it extremely fun. It was just one of those mindless feel-good shows, but it was entertaining nonetheless. …Yeah I don’t think there was a plot either.

  7. Kitty says:

Something about pretty boys singing makes me happy XDDDD Was actually a nice little series, greatly enjoyed it!!

  8. Man, I… I don’t even know what to think about this series XD

I finished it mainly because of the stunning animation and Miyano Mamoru’s NGHHH voice, but the plot was… Wait, was there even a plot?
The characters were a bit stereotyped but very attaching in the same time. Though this Mr. Natsuki and Dr. Satsuki thing made absolutely nonsense.
I FOUND THE MUSIC SO POOR. This is a singing anime goddamit! I guess they could have make a bit more of efforts. Even Attack on Titan, which is clearly not a singing anime (lol) has better music. I don’t deny how well all these awesome seiyuus sing and I’m not a musician either, but I found all the songs was so… cheap. I was so disappointed by this. Not mentioning the sparkling trips and the shining animals that popped out of nowhere (and Cecil wtf)
I just wanted to kick Haruka in the face sometimes. Not really because she owns such a fabulous harem, but because she’s so… I mean, I found her so flat and unacting in my opinion. Always crying and being shy near these hotties really got on my nerves sometimes, I was like “BUT MAKE SOMETHING PLZZ! ACT! ;.;” I don’t really get how they managed to all fall for her but anyway. The funny thing is that she is nearly kicked out by the fandom because of all the fangirls’ yaoi pairings XDD

So yeah, the good points were the great animation and the awesome characters design (Ringo wtf XD) Otherwise… Hm.
AND PLEASE CHANGE THOSE WINTER UNIFORMS FOR THE SAKE OF OUR EYES *sob*

This was quite a messy review of mine… ఠ_ఠ I apologize if there are any spelling mistakes and thanks so much for reviewing this, I laughed until the last lines! Hugs from France~ ヽ(*・ω・)ノ (OH WAIT SPEAKING OF FRANCE didn’t the blonde sax player remind you France from Hetalia somehow?)

See ya maybe and keep up the great work! (≧▽≦)

    • Karakuri says:

      But wasn’t it fabulous?! xD

I had the opposite reaction here, in regards to the singing. I think this was one of the best that I’ve seen in regards to cut in songs. …Cecil’s whole character was rather wtf.

I have to agree with Haruka being useless though. She really didn’t do much for anyone this season (plus the whole forgetting piano was sad). But at the end, she kind of pulled everyone together. …The games have practically kicked her out too, apparently. I hear that the newest one (with the sempai) isn’t as bad as Debut (the sequel game) was. Though now pretty much everything done by this game company is all about the implied yaoi pairings. OTL

      Thanks for reading!!!! ヽ(´ー`)ノ
