First Impression – RO-KYU-BU!

So who wants to see lolis playing with balls?

Aaah, summer season has started already. There’s Blood-C, there’s the other Reibai Sensei lookalike anime, and then there’s…Ro-Kyu-Bu! Hhmmm, maybe not really a good list to start the weekend, but maybe the other anime that will come out next week/this Sunday will be good. Just…GIVE ME NATSUNO AND NURA NAO! T________T

Ro-Kyu-Bu is a basketball anime. With little girls. Yup, LITTLE GIRLS. Let’s start from the beginning. The new coach Subaru, a high schooler, comes into the auditorium, only to find five… FIVE little maids welcoming him with tempting words such as “Master” and “Onii-chan.”

Lucky bastard

No, they’re not paid to do that. It’s FREE. No, it’s not like that either. They just want to give a good impression to their new bishie coach, and I bet it’s not working. Let’s rewind first, shall we?

He likes ’em little girls

Subaru is coaching little girls not because he wants to, but because he’s forced by his sister, the advisor of the Loli Basketball Club. Subaru was in his school’s basketball club, but his club got suspended for one year for the most retarded reason: the club president has hots for the club advisor’s five years old daughter. EW MAN, EW. Since he claims that he’s not into little girls (yeah right), his sister asks him as a replacement since she knows nothing about basketball. Subaru’s sister is so nice, if he refuses to coach the Loli Club for three days, she won’t blackmail him to show the whole world (internet) his letter to his mom when he was small. Thus, Subaru sets forth to teach the Loli Basketball Club.

The first day of the coaching is bad. Well, not really bad. It’s just the tall girl Airi starts crying when Subaru tells her that she’s tall. She gets really depressed if someone tells her that she’s tall/big, so the glasses girl tells Subaru not to say that again. So, the first day is all about Airi crying and wailing about her height. While they’re cleaning up the field though, Tomo (the short pink-haired girl) shoots the ball just for fun, and Subaru sees her glowing as she shoots the ball. Of course, she dunks it in.

Oh god, my pervy brain can’t take these kind of sentences

Lolis: They glow when they play with balls. AND they can sparkle without wanting to

The second day isn’t so bad. Subaru is able to recognize the plus and minus of the girls as he teach the basics of the game to them, and the practice goes smoothly. Over-excited Miho asks him whether they can win prefectural competition in three days or not. Realistic Subaru strikes Miho’s heart as he tells her that winning in three days is IMPOSSIBLE. Miho, not wanting to face reality, runs off crying. And that’s how the second day ends. Oh wait, let’s not forget that someone threatened Subaru not to coach the Loli Club.

“Bitch, Subaru is mine!”

This is what happens when you fight a loli: her fans threaten you

Finally it’s the third day, and it seems like Subaru just can’t wait to get it over with. Just as Subaru is about to enter the auditorium, five little boys stop him because they wants to talk to him about “something.” Seems like Subaru is gonna get beaten up by a bunch of shoutas. xD

Next Episode: Shouta Power Rangers vs. Loli Basketball Coach

Extra Loli:

Her speciality is passing around balls

Omnomnomnomnom

Sad flashback. Everybody start crying NOW!

I WANT A CUTE CHAT LIKE THIS TOO

“All right, Subaru, now pick your uke!”

End Thoughts:

I don’t know what the fuck made me watch this junk. The first episode is just so bad I really want to hurl every time I see the little kids. The problem is, the kids are just EVERYWHERE. This is because I don’t like little kids in the first place, so watching something where ¾ of the characters are little kids is a torture for me. Yet at the same time I can’t help laughing my ass off every five seconds too because gosh the lines the little kids say are just either pornographic-sounding (for me of course. It’s a fact that my brain is a little bit on the perverted side) or too mushy or fluffy to the point where I keep laughing every time I listen to them talking.

What I don’t get is how the girls are elementary kids. Like, really? There is wide range of age, and they just have to choose the sixth graders?  Why WHY would you choose little kids? And why the kids don’t act like little kids AT ALL? Why is Airi’s boobs BIGGER than mine, and she’s still in the sixth grade!? And I already graduated from high school too! And-and-and how the hell do these kids know things such as sexy maids and the word “onii-chan”!? Why are the little kids so dramatic!? Is Miho having too much hormones? WHY ARE THE LITTLE KIDS NOT ACTING LIKE LITTLE KIDS!?

And as for the story… I don’t really watch sport anime, so I’m not going to say anything about the sport part. But the story is such a typical slice of life-ish story. I’m pretty sure that the girls joined the basketball club for Tomo’s sake. And as for winning the prefectural competition, maybe the club will be disbanded if they don’t win? Or maybe Tomo is going to leave in three days? Maybe it’s the first one, since Tomo still needs to be there for the rest of the episodes. Now, for the characters. Subaru is all right, but he’s a little bit emo. He gets depressed easily when it comes to basketball and refuses to play because of the club’s suspension. I don’t know what his problem is, but he could’ve played normally instead of sulking around. My loli antenna tells me that Tomo will have a crush on him though. Maybe it’s going to be like Until Death Do Us Part? xD As for the lolis, like I said before, I don’t like how they don’t act like accordingly to their age. They’re too mature for sixth graders. I like Hana though. The air of innocence around her is so moe! That’s the kind of little kids I want, cute and innocent. But not the ones that flip out their shirts (>.<). I don’t like the fan-service they show either. It’s not that I don’t mind that kind of service, but they’re little kids! Why would you have that kind of boob-fondling fan-service on little kids!? What if a pedobear is watching this anime!? And I swear, I SWEAR, sometimes the girls’ heads are so huge in some of the scenes, I thought that they’re going to fall down because of it. Animation fail orz. And the little boys lol, they look so ghey with their big heads and beautiful faces. Last thing, why do the adults look like little kids too? Seriously, everything here looks so loli/shota.

I am soo not continuing this thing. Not even for the sake of the bishie Subaru. Or HanaKawa. I’m not liking the story, and I don’t like sports at all. The fan-service on the little kids is too much for me, because I’m not into shota/loli. Also, I can’t take those little kids. I. Just. Don’t. Like. Little. Kids.

Seems like next week is the “secret” the lolis have been hiding. Maybe they’re hiding toys?

Ditto on everything. Seriously, what’s up with the kids?! Lolis and Shoutas. So NOT my cup of tea.

Can you imagine, there are people who have given this 9 and 10 on MAL? What’s wrong with these people? 0.0

    • anaaga says:

I think they rated it based on the art, animation, and the plot. What I don’t get is the art part, since in some of the scenes, the bodies aren’t proportional.

      AND GOSH THEY’RE LITTLE KIDS

  2. Foshizzel says:

LOLOL There are so many children running around playing with balls….

I only saw the first 15mins of this not sure what to think…it looks random, I noticed a few good voices! Index, Ohana and Shiro?! WTF all good but not sure if I will keep watching this…

Good work Anaaga so MANY BALLS.

  3. Metalsnakezero says:

This is cute and all but in a way it kinda creepy.

    • anaaga says:

it is creepy. and the reason why the basketball club is suspended is totally ridiculous. it’s like as if they whole point of this anime is little kids

  4. tomphile says:

OH GOD NO – This is worse than Astarotte no Omocha, at least the art wasn’t as loli-esque as in Ro Kyu Bu… I almost get scared I’ll be arrested whenever I touch this anime.

    • anaaga says:

hey, that’s true. Omocha isn’t as loli as this.

and I still need to watch that

  5. Jrow says:

Tomo’s cool, ballin’ balls and such. I survived thru watching the RAW. It was bad; I can’t even pretend that I think it’s fun.

    • anaaga says:

anything with balls can never go wrong. I hope you didn’t feel like a pedo after you finished watching it

  6. Moni Chan says:

this kinda scared me i mean lolis with balls what can go wrong. EVERYTHING but i will still continue this anime cuz when i start something i cant finnish. no i cant say that there was an anime called madoka nvm

  7. Elyon says:

I tried so hard to get through this, but I couldn’t do it >.< This show is definitely aimed at pedophiles.

HANAZAWA IS TOO SWEET FOR THESE ROLES T__T

    • anaaga says:

SHE NEEDS TO CHANGE HER AGENT. I can be her agent then make her work in a yuri anime

    • Tofu says:

So Elyon… does that mean you’re calling me a pedophile now? xD

  8. Overcooled says:

….This isn’t how I remember basketball teams working. Way to take a hit for the team and review it, Anaaga. *salutes*

  9. Toori-chan says:

I’m definitely continue watching this. FYI i’m not a lolicon. It’s gonna be on my comedy list. Plus i’m attracted towards the OP and the artwork.

My comment towards the characters is Minato’s voice is too mature. Someone change her seiyuu!!!

Hope that you can survive this journey anagaa.

    • Tofu says:

I actually think Hanazawa’s high pitched/cute voice suits Minato… It doesn’t sound mature to me and THANK YOU for not hating on this show unlike these people… 😛

      The OP is fricken awesome!

      • Jrow says:

The OP was my favorite part. I don’t like all KOTOKO songs, but when she makes a good one, it’s pretty damn catchy.

  10. Yvoon says:

nude shots, cute girls constantly flashing, boys with overly big sized heads…i’m outta here…”orz

  11. Orange-sama says:

    Hahaha this will be a loli I’ll never forget, still can’t get used to 6th graders with boobs bigger than mine ;A;

Those lolis sure know how to play with balls LOL

  12. Tofu says:

I don’t want to sound mean but Anaaga, I can’t see you enjoying these sort of shows WHICH IS WHY I was getting ready for you to flame on this series… and you did.

“Or maybe Tomo is going to leave in three days? Maybe it’s the first one, since Tomo still needs to be there for the rest of the episodes.”

Quoting you on that, Tomo is in his 3rd day as the mum does say in the episode when she was talking to him and also when he was talking to Aoi meaning he can’t be in the first one. In these certain situations, Subaru would most likely decide to stay as the coach for the rest of the series.

DOn’t take this personally, I’m just sticking up for a show I enjoy and no I’m not a pedo… I like how they are touching on the basketball stuff. There’s knowledge flowing around that I didn’t know and the flow of art when they practice is smooth too. It’s enjoyable to watch and hopefully there will be some inspirational scenes to come since it’s a sport anime as well as a slice-of-life anime.

I do have doubts here and there. It’s not the best anime out but the art is quite nice for such a show. You should only watch and enjoy the show for what it is. If not then it’s the same as expecting apples from a banana tree… Just saying.

Though I can understand what you’re saying up there. I’m just hoping it doesn’t turn for the worst…

    • anaaga says:

For the Tomo part, I was guessing about the secret they’re keeping from Subaru. Dude, Tomo isn’t the guy, it’s the girl who’s the basketball expert. And it’s obvious that Subaru will stay even after in three episodes. Like duh.

Well I don’t know about you a basketball, but I was in a basketball team. And they’re pretty lax in their training *point at the team in ro-kyu-bu*. elementary, yes, but still lax

They’re putting fan-service scenes on little kids. Which isn’t supposed to happen, since there’s the Bill 156. Why not make a decent sport show without fan service for a change, instead of putting fan service on little kids? I want a decent apple (decent sport anime), not rotten apple (fan-service on little kids). And enjoying an anime with fan-service on little kids? Even if it’s a “good” sport anime? Really? REALLY?

And it’s obvious that there’s going to be more fan-service later (I repeat, on LITTLE KIDS), so yeah, I think it’s just going to be worse and worse.

Unless you’re into watching fan-service on little kids, of course.

  13. amado says:

somehow im in the minority. it was not supposed to be on my list(due to school).
but what the hell, il just have to do my studies and homework at school, THIS IS ON MY LIST.

    • anaaga says:

If it’s you, I can understand. You’re an execption *thumbs up* <3

    • Toori-chan says:

YEAH!!! School’s not gonna mess our ani-life. I missed a lot from Spring due to extra classes, trying to catch up.

  14. Moni Chan says:

i pick the redish looking haired shouta

    i didnt say anything .___.
