Ao no Exorcist – 15

Are you ready for the big show~?

Hoshi: If this is the part in the manga that I think it is, l-let me just grab a brown paper bag and a stress ball really quick…

Hime: HNG, got dem new OP & ED songs on ma iPod…makes me happeh :3

Hoshi: Last week Rin got caught up with a gigantic demon moth, and has opted to handle it by himself. However, Bon being Bon, won’t let him. He uses Shima’s staff to stick a seal onto the moth’s head, which when saying a chant, injures it just enough to let Rin go and for the rest of them to escape in time. They make it back to the camp where Izumo and Takara have already arrived with their lanterns surprisingly.

Things quickly go awry however when Amaimon suddenly makes his appearance in front of them! Shura immediately takes out her sword and unleashes a protective barrier around them that sends Amaimon flying. The esquires are madly confused on why he’s picking them, but Rin (of course) knows and goes to Shura, who gives him back his sword to fight him off if he tries to attack again. Then, Shiemi, in an odd trance, suddenly starts walking away into the arms of Amaimon. He had a bug lay an egg inside of her that when hatched, connected to her nerves, making her follow Amaimon’s every command.

They take off and Rin follows after them. He quickly becomes enraged when Amaimon proclaims he has Shiemi with him to become his wife, causing Rin to take a swing at him with his unsheathed sword. It turns out to be the wrong as Amiamon easily and harshly sends him flying across the forest. Meanwhile, back at the camp, Bon gets mad at Rin once again for going out on his own and leaves with Shima and Konekomaru following him…

Confused why Rin seemingly won’t take this seriously, Amaimon threatens to take out one of Shiemi’s eyes. Suddenly a firework whizzes past him, coming from the trio of Bon, Konekomaru, and Shima. Out of fright, Konekomaru accidentally sets his firework on fire, which hits Amiamon on the head and causes him to really have a broccoli head. Shima lets out a small burst of laughter and the un-amused demon kicks him into a tree. He turns to Bon, but Konekomaru steps in front of him and suffers a broken arm from a single tap. Amaimon grabs Bon by the neck, asking if he too was laughing, but he says his only business is with Rin.

Seeing his friends injured and remembering their kind words to him earlier, Rin makes his decision to draw his sword in front of them, even ignoring his dear brother Yukio, who barely managed to make it in time. With that, Amaimon ditches his hostages of sorts and goes after him to begin their intense battle.

They take it to the air where Rin manages to bring him down and stab him with his sword. However, his tail (one of the weakest points on a demon) is left fluttering in the wind and Amaimon grabs it, which has Rin falling over. They continue their battle both on the ground and in the air until Rin unleashes his full power, blasting Amaimon away into the trees.

Mephisto, having watched the whole spectacle from afar, finally decides it’s quitting time for tired-out Amaimon. He brings out a large cuckoo clock that grabs and takes him back inside. However, Rin suddenly comes up and slices the whole thing in half. It’s then that Mephisto realizes Rin’s lost control of his flames…~

End thoughts~

Hoshi: I really do need a stress ball on my desk when watching episodes like this…Anyways, AGH SHIEMI WHY?! I’ve been trying to stick up for you girl, but goodness, you haven’t done anything useful in forever and then you become the damsel in distress this time around -sigh- (I still love you though). Also, I finally found out where all that Amaimon and Shiemi fanart came from; I had been so confused. The first thing I thought of when Amaimon took her was, “RIN TAKE BACK YOUR WOMAN!” *still shipping RinxShiemi heavily*

Aside from the unnecessarily long re-cap, I was decently entertained by this episode; decently is actually an understatement when I was nail-biting, shouting, and shaking my computer’s screen (if you hadn’t known already, I’m the type that gets extremely emotional when watching shows). I had been preparing myself for Rin’s big reveal ever since Amaimon first entered the show, but despite already knowing the outcome, I still acted like a whacked-out fangirl when he brought out his flames in front of the gang.

The animation was brilliant this time around, especially with Rin and Amaimon’s big battle. I’ve always loved how they animated the major battle scenes but this time around I’m finding myself constantly staring at Hime’s gifs, heh. Seeing Amaimon look defeated was quite interesting as well; it was nice to see him lose that nonchalant face for once. I’m still extremely nervous for the aftermath (I had actually stopped reading the manga for a bit because I so afraid of how everyone would act |’D). It’s just…so sad because everyone was finally warming up to each other and Rin was feeling a bit normal again –SOBS- This is definitely going to change a lot of things and I can only wait with extreme anxiety as to what’s next. AND WHO IS THIS NEW GUY IN THAT PREVIEW…?~

Hime: Um, well…I don’t really know how I feel about this episode yet. I’m still mulling that one over. It had both good and bad points for me. The 4 minute re-cap at the start was beyond boring. Do they seriously think we wouldn’t remember where we left off? Rin being nabbed by Mothra isn’t exactly an image you’re likely to forget…

Shimei is so fucking weak. I am kind of at the point I wish Amaimon had just killed her. She’s been damsel in distress so pointlessly and so much now that it just feels like fanservice. Though, I have to admit; her and Amaimon look good together. Maybe it’s because they are both piss poor annoyances, who knows. Amaimon’s total domination of Rin (and everyone else) got pretty boring, too. Everyone running cluelessly to Rin’s rescue made me put my head in my hands, it was so lame. The only part I enjoyed there was the music. If I hadn’t of been so annoyed by the rest of the episode I would have thought it was pretty moving. Nevertheless, the actual fight between Rin and Amaimon was excellent. The action and music gave it all an exciting and memorable atmosphere. My only complaint for that scene was that it was way too short, and it ended in a very frustrating way.

I haven’t been happy with where Exorcist has been going for a while now. This arc is very cliche, and it sucks all the individuality and energy out of the characters and replaces them with these cut-outs that are spouting lines I’ve heard a hundred times before. It’s a chore to watch because it is such a tired scenario. The hero tries to take on everything by himself —> Friends get pissed off and give a nauseatingly gay speech akin to YuGiOh —> Hero gets all emotional and starts fighting WITH DA POWAH OF LOVE! —> Lie exposed —> EEGAD faces everywhere. MYGOD ANIME GIMME SOMETHING NEW.

Luckily the preview suggests that we’re getting the hell out of the fucking woods. Finally! And moving on to deal with the aftermath of Rin’s little secret being spilled to the group. I’m pretty sure I remember how everyone takes it, so I’m not exactly filled with confidence for that…but the preview shows lots of Yukio and by god Exorcist is turning into another one of those shows where I need Jun there to keep me watching. Until episode 16, then…

Preview:

The kurikara is cracking and a man vows to kill the son of Satan. So what else is in store for Rin now that he’s revealed his secret to the group? Until next week then~!!

~Seriously exploding powers! I don’t think he’ll get any more or any less worried; he kinda seems like the cocky type to me.

    • Dan-go says:

yeah, not much happens in an episode, even if we love it so, sekijutsu does multiple eps in one so they can write more. that said, i prefer my instantaneously gratifying metaarticles

Ohboy that long episode recap reminded me of those recap episodes of KHR. Not needed. Too long. :/

Damn I want the next episode.

  8. BlackBriar says:

I wonder how powerful Mephisto is. Saying that he’ll kill Amaimon if he tries to kill any of them. To me, he’s more like an English bureaucrat than a fighter. Amaimon, you badass. There’s not a lot of people who can pull off pure villainy without any emotion you did. He looked extremely before Rin powered up. Was he really going to make Shiemi his wife? Somehow, I just can’t picture that in my head.

Shura had Rin’s sword inside of her? What else does she have hiding in there? She’s gotta be a cougar because she’s not 18 and I think she’s starting to take an interest in Rin even though he’s a demon. And not just any demon but the son of Satan, plus she also said she has a thing for guys who aim high. Shiemi, you may have a rival for Rin’s demon heart.

The fight between Rin and Amaimon was awesome. It was a DBZ and Naruto Shippuden level fight. They burned and destroyed everything in their path while brawling it out. Rin reminds me a lot of Yu Yu Hakusho’s Yusuke Urameshi. They’re both arrogant and hot headed but when it’s time to save your friends, they jump in without hesitation or second thought. I want to see the groups’ reaction when the explanation starts. Especially Bon’s reaction when he finds out his friend is the son of Satan, the son of the one responsible for the Blue Night and the deaths of all those clergymen.

  9. 2PacFan says:

I thought the fight was EPIC and (no offense), I did not think Rin would win. 🙁 But he did so it’s all good. 😀

What I did not like was Shiemi, she annoyed me. I mean, really? She’s so useless. I admit that she has saved lives, but that’s the only thing. And only cause she had her summon. :/

I just realized that Yukio did almost nothing. I miss him </3. Bon, Shima and the bald dude were pretty good though, even though they all got their asses PWN'ed.

No complaint about anyone else, because you CANNOT complain about Shura and her epic awesomeness. I feel kinda bad cause everyone knows Rin is a demon/human. I remember how this goes in the manga 🙁

By the way, when the firework exploded on Amaimon's head, I was like 'Oh shit, he's gonna kill them' and then they LAUGHED. I knew they were going to die after that.

    • Hime says:

The Yukio neglect is really starting to make me depressed. His gunplay is awesome, it NEEDS, MUST be showcased more.

  10. Foshizzel says:

Whoops! Forgot to comment this week LOL

Anyway great episode so dramatic! And finally everyone knows about Rin’s blue flames, now to see what happens next! Will everyone look past his demon powers and become friends? I hope they can overlook the fire >.> sadly I think were in for some dramaaaaa filled episodes.

Well another new character next week! Can’t wait he looks like someone from Soul Caliber xD

  11. Reaper says:

Awesome battle between Rin and Amaimon, though I expected it really since I’ve read the manga. Never piss off Amaimon with the broccoli joke, I can see that one in the future, as well as that cuckoo clock? Ein, Zwei, Drei! It was hilarious! 🙂 I can’t remember what happened next so I wonder if Mephisto really does show off a bit of his fighting prowess; then again, A-1 could just do it because they can so *shrug*

  12. Izzy says:

    AUGH
    I love Shiemi
    I roleplay Shiemi
    BUT DAMN GIRL GET IT TOGETHER ;;;
