First Impression – Nichijou

School life in Japan is so exciting!

Foshizzel:Ah Spring! Finally here to warm up all that snow, well I don’t get snow but I know most of you probably do. I know there was an OVA before this but I think that was more of an introduction. At first I wasn’t sure about this anime but after that OVA I was instantly hooked! So, tag reviewing with my good buddy Ness! Enjoy.

Ness: Spring anime is finally here!!! Yay, how exciting and it gives me something to look forward to. Compared to winter season, I’ll actually be watching various other new anime. For some reason, I just found no interest in the winter season anime and ended up only watching what I need to blog. But, I did get to catch up on some older season anime. Anyway, lets get this going! Exciting~ XD

Plot… wow, that might be hard since we just follow the school life of Mio, Aioi, Mai and how everyday random events happen around them. And more of the Nano and the cutest scientist ever: Hakase. Also some dramatic three second rule with Hot dogs!

Meet Mio! The leader?!

Aioi the extreme!!

And finally Mai! The quiet glasses girl.

Nano and Hakase getting ready for breakfast

Beginning part has Nano cooking breakfast for Hakase, until a cat steals the fish and runs off. Sneaky cat! Nano chases after the cat and runs into someone causing a massive explosion. Ah the life of a moe robot… and then it begins to rain down random objects that mostly hit Aioi.

Moe robots! Always have explosive moe powers.

They then arrive at school and begin the day, and of course we jump right into a food scene. I can tell food will play a role in these random episodes. The next few scenes were awesome; not going to lie that hot dog was so dramatic almost in a mecha way. So, enjoy the next few screen shots! Muhahahaha.

Mio- “So what? That’s just a normal hot dog”

Aioi- “NO! IT’S A ROCKET HOT DOG FROM SPACE!”

Mio- “WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTT?!”

Yes, truly awesome hot dog scene! And now the students go outside for some school meeting with the principle and homeroom teacher Izumi Sakurai. This part was funny to see: Mai having an inside joke with Aioi! And Mio’s love interest Koujirou! Who looks like Keima from TWGOK! He has a strange obsession with riding a goat to school instead of a bike…

I did the same in high school during those meetings! Just sit and stare children.

Koujirou- “I WILL PUNCH A SMALL CHILD IF YOU TOUCH MY GOAT!”

Mio went into Moe shock from her daydream! Somewhere Merry is running among the flower beds.

After Mio passes out from blood loss thinking about Koujirou, we join Nano and Hakase at home. Did I mention I think it’s cute how the robot girl is named Nano? Hahah, so good! And Hakse is my favorite girl next to Aioi. Anyway we end with Hakase showing off why Nano has a huge wind up key in her back; it shoots off her big toe! Hahaha, that was so damn good.

Nano and Hakase! So good together, I love how Hakase is shaking about Nano’s toe.

GO GO GO TOE ROCKEETTTT!!

Extra Lulz!

It’s okay, Nano, just get a drill for your missing hand!

Pro tip: DO NOT TRY THIS! Although it was hilarious!

Must….resist…..too…damn…..cute.

Sparkles make everything so much better.

End Thoughts:

Foshizzel: What to say about this? Well, for starters AWESOME! I really loved this first episode, yes there was an OVA for this but I think of it as a preview for what was to come! Glad I didn’t pass this one up; first off we don’t have a plot so it seems simple enough to follow. And the characters set up some great moments in this episode, sometimes a bit over the top especially with the hot dog and opening with Nano’s explosion. I think I died during the hot dog scene that by far was the best moment in the episode.

Animation is decent and I guess girls without noses are cute! The expressions always kill me how funny and over the top they can get. The school scenes are great too and I love the interactions between Mio, Aioi and Mai! So damn funny. Of course, I can already see food playing a big role in this show, but I won’t mind as much; hopefully we don’t get too many episodes dedicated to just food. Unless they continue to pull off some crazy ass scenes around it!

Now for my two favorite characters Hakase and Nano! Those two are so good together and damn cute! Really hope we get more fun from them. The eye catch with them playing paper rock scissors, haha good stuff right there. There are so many characters that instantly became funny to me so it will be hard to decide with just one episode. Can’t forget the opening and ending songs, without the videos I probably wouldn’t care but with the videos it makes it so much fun. So, anyway this will be a tag review for me and Ness! So hopefully we get to have some fun with normal and maybe a random MSN style post? We shall see! Until then, see you next episode.

Ness:Woooooow! This was such a treat! Definitely this is one of those animes that will lighten the mood for me this season. Though, I am not a big fan of 4koma, considering that I couldn’t even get past 15 minutes of Lucky Star, I have always had a liking for Azumanga Daioh. Nichijou brings back some nice high school memories of when I was first introduced to Azumanga and became a fan to the humor it brought. The character designs for Nichijou are way similar but with improvements and they’re easily likable. As for the plot, it took a few but it was actually present buried beneath all the random humor scenes that brought out character development.

The premise of a robot girl who wants to go to school and be like a normal human is pretty cool to me! What’s even more funny is that the reason to the key on her back. So mean of Hakase to have such a bad reason to the key, it’s almost innocently cruel. Yet, don’t we wonder how can such a kid be the one to build a robot? Will we question that there’s a talking cat in this anime? I suppose it will all go past us considering that there are even stranger things in the world of Nichijou.

My favorite scene of this anime would be Yuuko and the 3 Second Rule for her sausage. Intense action to get that last bit of savory delight from lunch! As well, Mio’s thoughts of how wrong that just was. You’d think that seeing your food fly through some boy’s hair would be the stopping point! But no! Not for Yuuko. Also, the student assembly was pretty amusing. Mai’s so quiet but she actually has a sense of humor even if it’s a bit slow. Mio’s nosebleed at her crush Sasahara who likes to ride goats to school was amazing. I know that I wouldn’t have a crush on some goat riding boy. Sasahara and Tachibana’s interaction was another plus. The girl who randomly has guns pop out of nowhere but you’d think they were real ammo in there to kill? So far the character development in this is pretty well laid out. I also like observing the random passing by students with their uniqueness having not all students look alike. The comedy is great, the music is nice and the art is to my liking. I especially liked the ending theme art, the style has a soft pastel feel that goes with the mood of the song. This is definitely something that I will be following and I look forward to the next episode.

ALL HAIL THE BIG TALKING TOE!

Next week’s title! What does it mean? No freaking idea! But stay tuned for more random comedy! And Nano doing cute things with Hakase and of course Mio and her crew of friends.

Thanks!

I remembered how I looked over the japanese name accidentally and waited for AnimeTake to upload Everyday Life. It never came out BECAUSE it was named Nichijou…

    “OTL

Yeah, I failed big time.. but this was definitely a great way to start the spring season off! After witnessing the great art and emotions in Hanasaku Iroha, adding in some nice comedy is always great!

Good job on the Tag Team post guys~!

    Mio~~~! (Oh wait…wrong character) 😛

    • Foshizzel says:

LOL yeah same I didn’t even know it was called that.

Hell ya! Favorite spring so so far! really interesting comedy can’t wait for more. Comedy is so good I died laughing xD

  2. Moni Chan says:

its K-ON with a bit of lucky star on the side. i love this series

    • Ness says:

I don’t see any relation or likeness to K-ON. If you like this, check out Azumanga Daioh then, it’s more like that because of the same creators.

      • Foshizzel says:

Yep I don’t really see to much K-On in this, it feels more like Azumanga who could have guessed girls without noses were so cute? hahahaa

        Yes check out Azumanga! Wooooooot!!

  3. Overcooled says:

So far there are too many misses and not enough hits for me, but I’m pretty hopeful the jokes will get better. I need more jokes like that sausage gag!

    • Ness says:

The sausage gig was the best. The other jokes were fine by me like the fire alarm, that’s somethign I can relate to hahah. But yes, hopefully they get more humorous situations going on.

    • foshizzel says:

Lol yes! Flying sausage! I died during that scene so good, I think I like the random things like that something small like the famous 3 second rule, I know it’s not original it does happen in similar anime xD

True guess people might not get to drawn into it for the jokes.

  4. berrish17 says:

OMG ive always wanted to go to school in Japan!!!
    looks sooo fun XD
and the ending of this anime is really adorable!!
cant wait for the cd to come out~

    • Foshizzel says:

Hahaha yes! Don’t we all, but school is boring! Well sometimes.

Ending and opening are both great! And cute animation too.

  5. MikADo says:

This anime is like Shaft in Kyo ani pictures XD
I LOVE IT!! ALL HAIL THE MIGHTY TOEE!!!

  6. Metalsnakezero says:

    Wonderfully random
That is all I have to say.

  7. Gunny says:

    Hakase! (> * 3*)>

  8. RyC says:

btw, hakase(博士) is not really her name as it means “professor”, but since she doesn’t really have a name apart from her title, i guess we could call her that 😀

    • Foshizzel says:

Whoa awesome thanks for the info! I like that xD she is easily my favorite, I tend to like the “scientific” characters in random shows.

  9. Amutofan123 says:

I wasn’t originally going to watch this, but looks cute! It also looks quite similar to Azumanga Daioh. And I liked Azumanga Daioh. So yeah, I think I’ll watch this.

    • Foshizzel says:

It is very cute and fluffy! 😀 Very similar to Azumanga roughly the same style of animation and funny!

  10. Elyon says:

The guy with the goat is epic. XD I feel bad bashing the OVA so hard now, because the anime totally proved me wrong. Haha

    • Foshizzel says:

      Hell ya! Very epic hahaha

No worries! I still think the Ova is just a “preview” of what was to come.

      <3 Nano and Hakase

  11. Moni Chan says:

am i the only one that watched episode zero mio is yui and aioi is ritsu or the other way around. hey can be both

    • Ness says:

Yeah I watched the episode 0. The only entertaining thing from it for me was how much Mio worked to confince Yuuko that she’s not a failure.

  12. Gicchan says:

This is so random and funny, I love this series! Although I haven’t watched episode 0, but still, moe overload. Hakase.

And you took so many screenshots here, I’m impressed!

  13. Gicchan says:

xD Ahahah cool. So many epic stuffs and I think this one really looks like Azumanga Daioh. ‘w’

  14. Dan-go says:

Oh my god, it’s so good, it’s like azumanga daioh, but yet the animation feels almost silky smooth, the style is kinda four pannelish, but yet feels like a flowing story, I JUST LOVE IT, EPIC 3 SECOND RULE! SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFUUUUU
