First Impression – A Channel

SHINY CHEEKS AND BOOB PUNCHES!

~What’s this? Hoshi’s writing about cutsie girls in school uniforms?! You can tell the ending of the Bakuman anime has brought drastic changes to me! Okay, I’m kidding. If you checked out the latest manga digest, I gave some love to the darling A Channel, so here I am for the anime adaption!

We open up with the cute Run-chan talking to her male friends when suddenly a short-haired girl, Tooru, wielding a bat, steps right in the middle, swinging the bat to get rid of the boys.

No, Tooru is no delinquent; she’s just protecting the air-headed Run, who always manages to get herself in a bit of trouble. The two have been good friends for a long time but with Run being a year older, poor Tooru can’t see her as often as she’d like. It’s what got her to apply to her same high school back in her last year of middle school. On the day she finds out she makes it in, she decides to go to Run’s house where she awkwardly meets Yuuko. Thus begins a rocky relationship between the two…

We follow the girls on the rest of their school day, from Run falling asleep in class, to lunchtime conversation consisting of eating birds and a sizzling meat ring tone, to Run almost falling out a window, to trying to cut a hard candy in half, to Tooru merely sniffing out an empty bag of candy.

All the while though, Tooru can’t help but feel a bit left out, especially since she can’t take the same classes as them. Run reassures her though, telling her not to worry and that nothing has changed between them.

In the end, we will always come back to Tooru protecting Run from the invasion of the male species.~

Aaaand, because I can’t fit all the screencaps I want into the summery, it’s time for Bonus Pics!

Tooru used BOOB PUNCH!

ALL HAIL KOREAN BARBEQUE

Its happened to everyone…

I LOVE THIS FACE, OKAY?

End thoughts: The most obvious first thing I’m going to say is that the animation is GORGEOUS. Absolutely, positively GORGEOUS. I took 162 screencaps alone before being forced to cut down to 72, and finally to 34. The OP animation was brilliant as well. It was really unique, and even though I found the OP song a little too slow, I still managed to enjoy it. The song is just too catchy.

And now for the semi-harsh criticism I must deliver, despite how much my heart doesn’t want me to because I’ve been such a big supporter for this show. The story unfortunately feels reaaaaaally slowwwwwww. I couldn’t but be on the edge of my chair waiting for something more to come out, but nothing really did. There’s so many slow movement shots, and everything is just…so casual. The jokes are also dragged out too far for my taste. I’m assuming that since this is the first episode, they wanted to show their daily routines and what not, so I’m desperately hoping it gets a bit more faster paced in the coming episodes.

I said this before on the manga post, but A Channel doesn’t really have that pound-the-desk hilarious comedy, more like a few giggles then intense laughter. Mainly because Run is the one bringing in the comedy with her…air-headed-ness. My favorite bit has to be when they find out Run-chan’s ring tone is sizzling meat. I actually busted out laughing when I read it in the manga for some reason. And of course, Tooru’s BOOB PUNCHES are pretty funny as well. Poor Yuuko, seriously. All in all, it’s a very light, refreshing show! I can definitely feel the Spring atmosphere, and it’s not because of the cherry blossoms, heh.

I will stick by my girls! No matter how boring this show may hopefully not get, I will be here cheering this show on.~

Preview:

Run’s up to something again, while it looks Yuuko is getting attacked by…Wii remotes? Tooru’s torturing Yuuko as always and Nagi’s got some sexy hair! Let’s see what else these girls bring us! Until next week then~

I like this show. It knows that it isn’t going to one up K-on but just wants to be a nicely paced slice of life. I kinda find it funny how the Voice of Mugi, Kotobuki Minako, is voicing a girl who is kinda like Mio 😀

    • Tofu says:

SAME SAME! xD I like how she’s voicing a girl like Mio as well! xD

Nothing will one up K-On *fan boy mode*

    • Hoshi says:

~It’s most likely not, but it is fun to watch! A very nice slice of life :3

  2. Overcooled says:

Let me tell you, boob punches hurt. My friends thought it was funny to try it in high school, and I just punched them in the face for it. :/

    • Hoshi says:

~THEY DO. Especially when your younger and they’re still growing…

  3. Tofu says:

I know Hoshi, I know… You were right and I was wrong. xD

I love the OP, I love the ED, I love the characters, I love the lightness of the anime, I love heaps of things in the anime!!! Besides the boob punches… those are weird.

What else can I say? 😀 Are you following with this series?

    • Hoshi says:

~I KNOW YOU SO FREAKING WELL TOFU.
I KNEW IT, KNEW IT, KNEW IT!
Phew, sorry, I just am so excited lol x’D

I like the OP more than the ED, but the ED is still pretty good. I mainly love the characters; they’re all just so lovable! :3 LOL I think everyone finds the boob punches a little weird…

I am actually~. And very much happy to xD

      • Tofu says:

YAY! I’m glad your following it Hoshi ^^ Looking forward to your future posts!

I will agree with you that, that face expression Run makes all the time is GOLDEN

  4. amado says:

    its definitely on my list.
again as I said, an all-girl cast and a slice-of-life genre is almost guaranteed to have yuri in it.

and tooru is pretty cute with her long sleeves and how she deals with yuuko. she looks a bit badass to me with that baseball bat.

    • Hoshi says:

~I think 4komas about high school girls in general have some sort of yuri touch to it lol.

Yeah she is! The fact that she’s so tiny too adds to her cuteness factor. She definitely seems like a badass with that baseball bat.

  5. Moni Chan says:

this show had to remind me of that time i got boob punched by a kid. i was walking home with friends from a korean BBQ place. really bad times

  6. Foshizzel says:

Wow this was fun to watch really nice stuff so far, will have to follow this one.

Cute character designs too! Tooru was fun to watch haha those sleeves add to her cuteness xD

OP and END are so colorful I like them.

    • Hoshi says:

      ~Whoo! xD

Uwah~ yes there are just too adorable! Tooru is just so small and cute<3

Yeah they both had lovely animation :3

  7. MikADo says:

uh to tell you the truth i am quite annoyed with Tooro
but Yuuko is cute and the OP, ED is nice so i’ll try
to keep up with it 😛

    • Hoshi says:

      ~LOL it’s all right XD
She is pretty cute! I personally have a thing for Run-chan heh…

      • MikADo says:

        boke moe huh? :3
        run chan is cute too
but i fear she will fall of the cliff
someday when i wasn’t watching her

  8. Sabine says:

It´s so funny, becouse Run and Tooru are So like me and my best friend, I´m expecially like Tooru, even the same hairstyle (but red) and Faces, those eyes XDD

  9. Reaper says:

Ah, A Channel, another serious not so serious series like Lucky Star and Haruhi Suzumiya, though with its own charms, and a bit more character. Can’t help but love Tooru with the bat swinging (especially against the guys, a bit of a defensive compensation, no?) and her first meeting with Yuuko=Evangelion Beast Mode; that would terrify anyone
Gonna keep watching the rest of what I’m believing to be a hilarious run of episodes 🙂

    • Hoshi says:

~I definitely agree it has more character; it’s what makes you attracted to it. Tooru and her bat is just awesome, and that first meeting is just…Poor Yuuko x’D

  10. Amutofan123 says:

It looks adorable! I might have to watch this too!

    • Hoshi says:

~Yes watch it!! Full of adorable girls and their odd school life’s x’D

  11. Orange-sama says:

Ah! This show is hilarious, though if that airhead girl was in real life, she’d be in an insane asylum.

  12. Elyon says:

TOORU-CHAAAAAAAN <3 It was instant love when I saw those sleeves.

    • Hoshi says:

      ~TOORU IS LOVEEEE<3
Those sleeves are just grabbing everyone's hearts LOL.

  13. anaaga says:

tooru is subconsciously a lesbian, and run is mentally slow.

    something is wrong here

  14. Dan-go says:

i think i’m just going to pile up on the slice of life animes this season, they just seem so good, everything else can wait 😛

  15. Yvoon says:

    ohohoho!!

cant wait for the next ep XD

    p.s.

THAT face is cute..but at the same time its also a bit freaky. dunno why, just kinda puts me off if i stare at it too long >_>
