Level E – 06

Life in a RPG

Kyokai: The longest day EVER!!! Though, it was filled with fun. Starting off with a recording of Anivision’s episode 74 (woo, they have been around for some time, folks!) and ending with me almost ready to pass out after a twelve-hour work day… Still, anime always picks me up and Level E did just that. Same for the Valentine’s theme that we will be celebrating till next month. Just don’t expect some lovey-dovey moments in Level E just yet (where is Yukitaka and Miho, when you need them?!).

Ness: Wow it’s been a long week, well I’ve just been busy lately and I’m sure it won’t end for a while. But other than that, hope everyone enjoyed some chocolate on V/SA-Day. I have my own stash of choco, hehehe. Anyway, here we are again with a continuation episode of Level E’s Color Ranger series.

The Color Rangers are to head out to Yamagata where the devil Craft (Ouji’s another troll) is located, who holds the key to their freedom. But before that, Akagawa – Red Ranger, has to show off that he’s now level 10.

This is how you pose when doing your super special move~

Arriving at Yamagata, it’s hot as ever and we even see some familiar aliens people. The kids make it to devil Craft’s lair house and try to figure out what to do until Craft notices them. The boys have the nominated leader to talk to Craft and eventually enjoy a nice refreshment, while telling their story.

Craft understands the boys’ pain in being pawns for baka Prince and secretly agrees to help them by communicating via laptop messaging (yey, for technology!) to fool the ever so listening Prince. The kids get the key and while leaving they realize that they don’t know how to use it. So, the boys head back to Craft who says he can’t help them. The kids then call Tachibana-sensei who unfortunately can’t help them either.

Every boy’s… dream teacher?

Eventually Craft gets pissed off that he rages towards the sky about Prince and calls Sato and Corinne to help take him down. Sato explains how to use the key but there’s a required password on the wristband. The hint being: “The password is the name of the girl you like.”

You da man!

Shocked at such a stupid hint, Blue goes first with Ito Rina and Black follows with nobody because he’s such a quiet, cool, smart boy. Red refuses to have his band taken off so then Yellow goes but there’s just so many girls that he likes that he’s down to one girl left but can’t remember her name. Next is Yellow but he wants to do it in private but Blue taunts him to say it aloud until the two start to fight and Red interferes. The boys end up heading home. Meanwhile we see Prince finalizing his next scheme.

The next day at school everyone except for Red and White seem somehow attached to their wristbands even though they’ve taken it off. Suddenly the background changes and the boys are in another world. A message pops up with the preface of a video game story and we find out that the boys are on a video game planet.

The future of gaming. IT’S ALL GONNA BE REAL, BUBBA!

The boys make it to a town and they flag a quest to take down a king with dragon nights. But the boys refuse to head there until getting level 30. So, they begin to level up and we get to see Yellow and Blue’s humor at their embarrassing transformation.

The boys get carried away with leveling up that they’re way over their targeted level. They then head to the castle and… to be continued.

#1 Classic Single of 2111: “Go Color Rangers, Go~”

End Thoughts:

Ness: So, what a adventurous episode! Our Color Rangers are sent far away to face off the devil Craft and I was actually expecting more comedy when they faced off but that didn’t happen. But it’s fine because Craft is just so cool helping out the boys and eating his watermelon while they voice act out the fight for the boys to win the key. Mmm now I want to eat some watermellon. The random scene of the sensei in the shower while receiving a phone call from the boys was just yeaaaaaaahhh but funny! Tentacle out of nowhere holding the phone!

As for the video game planet, so awesome! The picture of the planet and the video game console. I guess that’s why Prince’s spaceship is a game cartridge, so that it will fit into the video game planet hah. Yellow and Blue’s reaction to their transformation is the same reaction that I have when the boys transform. So embarrassing and yet so funny. Yet, it’s just as funny that the boys go so into leveling up that they went over their goal level. I look forward to seeing what else is to happen and yet I don’t really want to see if they will have a sort of Voltron combo transformation as seen in the anime half point images.

I think that I’ve come to the point of thinking that Level E is basically just about Prince and he’s related to side stories or arcs. So the first arc of the series was Yukitaka, the second arc is Color Rangers and then there will be a third arc focused on new characters. So, I’m thinking that we won’t be seeing Yukitaka again. This makes me sad because Yukitaka is such a really good character and element to have in this anime. Especially Yukitaka’s clashing with Prince or Craft, it’s just so epic. Oh well, I’m sticking to this anime and the comeback of Craft was so nice even if it was only for a good ~10 minutes.

Kyokai: Level E doesn’t ceases to amaze me. When it first started airing, I already knew it would be something good but I never imagined that it would mix comedy with sci-fi so well. Can you think of a similar show except for maybe Arakawa Under the Bridge, which is still not comparable? I can easily say that such a mixture is hard to come by in this day and age of anime.

It’s a long-winded and ongoing gag but somehow or the other, it works quite brilliantly with the eccentric yet VERY manipulative Prince. For him everything is fun and of course, you don’t expect him to start singing: “Ore wa ningen suki da! AISHITERU!” like one Orihara Izaya but he’s close to the wackiness that is experimentation and pointing people towards the wrong direction. He is definitely more than just a troll and I can’t wait for the next arc; enough with the Colour Rangers (they are still amusing though, especially Red’s DAT ASS pose).

I kind of miss Tsutsui now because he provided the much needed supply of chagrin to the calm and cool visage of Prince, who is moe-ly evil. I wish, he would return soon with Miho, who I was finally getting warmed up to as a character. You don’t really find real-girls like her in anime so it was actually a breath of fresh air that she has her own idiosyncrasies.  I like it or not, the next episode is all about a showdown with the boss character; I can only guess that Prince would be it and he would play another troll trick. I’ll still be happy if its lulz producing. So, let’s see, till next time; Ja ne~

Preview: The Color Rangers head to the castle to fight off the dragon knights but there’s more than what they expected and the baka Prince makes his entry.

I’m still not feeling the funny as much as I used to, but at least the story isn’t lagging behind. The red ranger pisses me off so badly though with his ugly face and stupid butt poses….Is it supposed to be funny? He just makes me rage <_< Other than that, GO COLOUR RANGERS. (Mmm, Prince has a decent singing voice~ lol)

    • Ness says:

I know what you mean, it’s not as funny because no more Yukitaka vs Prince or Craft. I’m glad that at least Craft made a small appearance and gave a bit of LOL. YES the Red Ranger kid is so annoying which is how he’s supposed to be hahah. Prince’s singing was pretty amusing near the end when the kid yelled at him to shut up… guess he was singing so they could hear it too.
