Ore no Imouto ga Konnai ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai – 05 & 06

Bam! Two for one! More loli and more ordinary!

Oooooh shiiiiiii- What’s this? A DOUBLE episode review? Why have you decided to do this, oh great and mighty Hato-kun of the southern lands? Well my loyal minions (readers), because nothing much happened in episode six! So I’ll be blasting my way through episodes five and six, in preparation for the seventh installment!

If you remember last episode, after good ol’ Summer Comiket, we ran into Kirino best buddy, Ayase. After an extremely awkward conversation between these two and Kyousuke, Ayase and Kirino have a little breakdown fight. Ayase turns all yandere and freaks out when Kirino’s hobby is revealed. Ayase promptly tells Kirino to never talk to her again.

Despite acting all tough, Kyousuke can see through her, confronting her about Ayase. Strangely enough, in midst of the argument, Kirino yells at Kyousuke that he’s never cared about her before, so why should he care now? We get a loving kick to the testicles and then Ayase complaining that she wont talk to Kirino because all Otaku are dirty and bad and stuff. According to her, Kirino cares more about her hobbies than her best friend, so that’s gotten her all worked up. That and she still thinks Otaku are born from hell, or something. So what does Kyousuke do? He calls on his secret weapon. Tsundere Dad.

After getting some vital information for his awesome, tsundere father, he completely shuts down Ayase’s theory about all Otaku being killers and what not. Alas, she continues being stubborn. That’s when Kirino steps in off the playground (lol) and gives her a good (mental) slap. Buuuuut, she still can’t accept it. So Kyousuke comes to the rescue once again and makes a giant cock of himself. Ayase thinks he’s a freak and Kirino and her make up. Everyone wins! Except Kyousuke.

And with episode five coming to a close, we’ll jump straight into episode six! Now, I know I said nothing much happened, but that’s actually a lie. I’m sorry for deceiving you guys. Don’t hate me.

We open with Kyousuke and Minami talking in class about Halloween which is fast approaching. After accepting Minami’s invite to sample sweets (heh, kinky) Kyousuke and some random other dude strike up a conversation. He brings up the subject of Minami and Kyousuke, and whether they are dating or whatnot. He shuts him down, saying it would be weird if he was. Like dating a grandma. Weiiird.

While this episode isn’t completely focused around Kirino, we still see glimpses of her, obviously angry that Kyousuke isn’t around. D’awww. We get some childhood friend family antics comprised of good ol’ Granddad pretending to be dead, the little brother looking like a monk and helping out around the family shop. Funnily enough, Minami’s grandparents try to set Kyousuke and her up, trying to get them to bathe together and asking when they’ll get married. Her granddad is amazing, by the way. Has to be seen to be believed.

Of course, good ol’ gramps managed to get them to sleep in the same room, making Kyousuke and Minami a little uneasy. They talk for a while, then get to the big questions. Minami asks whether he would date anyone, to which he replies he wouldn’t (yeah right), because he enjoys his life the way it is now. Minami seems pleased by that. She’s happy, Kyousuke is happy, Kirino isn’t. Because her beloved brother is at home. Poor her.

End Thoughts

Five was a great end to that Ayase section. Kyousuke once again makes a giant fool of himself and pretty much ruins his image all for the sake of his sister. Does he really not care? Strangely enough, I found the whole thing about how Ayase would continue on about what she watched on the news or read in the papers extremely interesting. It’s what I’ve been studying for the past several months, the representation in the media. It’s a really fascinating topic and I fangirled (guyed) it up when I saw it mentioned, it was brilliant.

I’m a little sad that Kyousuke wont have any normal interactions with Ayase though. Well, at least that I can tell. I thought she’d be some strange and on the side love interest, which could have been a  nice addition. I was a little disappoint as to how little a part Kirino played in all of it, she kind of just turned up at the end and fixed everything, and I didn’t really enjoy that. Though, Ayase’s reaction at the beginning of the episode was legendary. Scratch that. Tsundere Dad was the best.

Episode five aside, I actually thought that episode six was the better out of the two. One thing that amazed me was the beginning of the episode when Kyousuke was discussing him and Minami. I have to say, that was one of the best ways I have ever seen an anime handle a relationship. Kyousuke’s face didn’t go red, he didn’t stutter / blood nose, his mate didn’t make any snide sexual remarks and there was no random shot of Kyousuke’s thoughts of, say, Minami is a swimsuit or something. It was incredibly refreshing and reinforces my statement of this being one of the better anime  this season. BRING ON EPISODE SEVEN.
