Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai – 01

Not as long and confusing as the title suggests. And there’s no incest either, you dirty people.

As of time of me writing this, there are three shows I’ll be watching for sure this season. Bakuman, Index II and Ore no. That count will probably increase as more shows are out, but for now, those are the solid three, the Holy Trinity, if you will (This is starting to get a little weird). You all know that I think Bakuman is awesome, and I just marathoned Index and can say it was pretty badass (I’m going to start Railgun soon…) but what do I think about Ore no? Well, that’s why you’re here, isn’t it?

We’re pulled into the series with a dream at first, with Kyousuke being woken up by his supposed little sister. He’s quick to realize, this isn’t his sister, explaining that there’s no way his little sister could be this cute. Alas, he’s right. He’s pulled out of his dreams and wakes on the floor. Very quickly we learn out his life, such things as his mother is pretty ditzy, his father is a badass and he barely ever sees his sister, Kirino. He’s also got a ditzy, four-eyed, secret (not really) admirer, Minami, who is Kyousuke’s childhood friend.

Well, at least Kirino’s hair is awesome.

After a long and somewhat ironic day at school, he returns home to find his sister, laying about talking on the phone, being a cold bitch. Ignoring him, learn some manners, girl. After forgetting to put something back in the fridge, he accidently bumps into Kirino who’s on her way out. She turns him away as he tries to help her pick her things up, then storms out of the house. Unsurprised by the incident, Kyousuke turns to head to his room, when he notices an anime DVD under a table nearby. Under further inspection is his room…

Uhhh…

…it’s actually a loli eroge game. Yeah. Through process of elimination of the members of his family, he can’t conclude who the owner is, and move on to trials. After mentioning the title of the anime DVD at family dinner, his sister starts getting worked up, somewhat worried. After he leave the house, he notices his light turn on and assumes Kirino is searching his room. Rushing back up, he’s right. She’s searching his room for, quite obviously, the DVD. After returning it, she asks if he thinks the hobby is odd. His reply is no matter her hobby, he would never think it’s weird. Wrong answer?

It’s kind of like my closet. With all the anime stuff that is, not the 14 year old girl. Or eroge games.

Not really. At 2AM he’s woken by Kirino slapping him in the face and straddling him. He tell him to follow her to her room. After some internal deliberation, she tell him what’s wrong. Truth be told, she’s actually otaku. At least for little sister loli eroge games. Inside a hidden compartment lies hundreds of games, DVD’s, Blu-Ray, figures, you name it. She also reveals she pays for all of it herself, with funds from her job. Turns out she’s also a model. Points to Kyousuke for knowing so much about his own sister. Despite all this, she says she wants Life Consolation, because she wants to be free of her hobby. Being such a nice older brother, he agrees to help her and goes back to sleep. Only to be woken an hour later and forced to play some eroge with her, for ‘research’.

End Thoughts

Son, I am disappoint.

Hopefully she doesn’t sprout dog ears in certain situations, like she does in the manga.

Protect that porn!

Protect that porn!

Otaku are the ones you least suspect. I know that from experience.

First of the bat, it’s amazingly accurate to the manga, bar the opening dream scene and the school sequence, from my memory. The characters are pretty much exactly what I thought they would be like, and there aren’t many annoying ones. So far, that is. Kyousuke’s dad scares me so much. Just his presence in the room, well, frame scares the living daylights outta me. He kinda looks like my dad as well, just less Maori. Kyousuke’s bland, boring and monotonous tone is perfect as well. Why is it that all boring, bland and monotonous tones are just, well, funny? Is it because I come from New Zealand, and everyone talk like that?

Another thing was the art and animation. While the art, I’ll admit, is nothing special, something about it just seems cleaner and more pristine. The lines are sharper and the colors are a lot more vibrant. I’m sick of watching anime where everything is dark and faded and gloomy and blargh. Kind of like games. Stop making them dark and gloomy! Bring on shit like Enslaved! Color, color, color! The animation was pretty darn smooth as well, so hopefully that’s a sign that it’ll be like that for the rest of the series, or at least it will be consistent. I can’t stand when art changes all the time.

Funnily enough, I knew this show would be enjoyable when I first heard it was airing this fall. I stuck by what I said, despite what my hipster anime friend (YES, THEY EXIST) said about it. Then again, he hates K-ON, so I can’t trust him anyway. While, like most anime, it’s not ‘genre-defining’, ‘outstanding’, ‘original’ or anything like that. It made me laugh quite a bit, and it made me want to watch more, and that’s what it’s about, yeah?

While the preview was just explaining the title, it was something like “There’s no way I’m going with my sister to a real life meet up“, or something like that. Yeah, you gotta watch out for people you meet on the internet. They could be, nice, or something. ~shivers~

    I know right?! XD

I actually enjoyed this a lot and why do I have a feeling that they are not really brother and sister? I don’t see the resemblance. Btw, good and timely review, Hato! Gambare~

    • Hato-kun says:

So you’re saying, the last episode of teh series, the father will announce that Kirino is adopted and they will…

      ..OH GOD.

  2. foshizzel says:

Not a bad show so far great artwork and ya I agree betting they are not really related lmao..

    • Hato-kun says:

The art for some reason really did stand out for me, no clue why.

      Probably her hair, it’s awesome.

  3. Namika says:

This actually turned out pretty good! Not too much moe or fanservice, kinda adorable. Kyousuke is SO lovable, despite his mostly boring personality… he’s so sweet! ^^
I guess I’ll keep following these series, since I liked it so much. I didn’t expect much at the beginning, but now my hopes are up!

    • Hato-kun says:

I think for this episode they tried to move away from actual fanservice (though, I bet it’ll come back) and went for the whole ‘I bet everyone who watches this would love a sister / friend like this’.

      Because, well, apparently it’s true.

      • Namika says:

Yeah, true enough. Though I still hope that they won’t overdo it with the fanservice. :scared

I’m really liking this show so far! It’s cute and funny. I also love all the vibrant colors~ I like both Kirino and Kyousuke. I can relate to Kirino… somewhat. I don’t play eroge, but I totally get what she’s saying about the anime girls being cute and all.

    • Hato-kun says:

Don’t lie. We know you have eroge games stashed in your hidden closet and you’re actually a model.

Don’t lie to yourself, it only makes it worse.

Up until now I’ve (only) seen 4 different fall season anime, Bakuman, MM!, Kagayaki no Takuto and this one. Up until now they haven’t disappointed me (yet). This one was really random and fun to watch, and because I read the first chapter I knew what to expect, so I watched knowing how it will be and it satisfied me.

Hipster anime friend…? What is that supposed to be? XD
    You’re from New Zealand? o.o

    • Hato-kun says:

At least some shows this fall will be bearable, yeah?

Yeah, I do have an anime hipster friend. THEY EXIST.
And yes, I’m from New Zealand. The land of shite internet and Hobbits.

  6. amado says:

no incest in sight YET. im betting(and hopping) that kyousuke develops thos feelings first, itll be hilarious…

    • Hato-kun says:

Surprisingly, I think there wont be any sort of incest at all. Here hoping, yeah. That would just be weird.

      • amado says:

I just want it added for some drama and maybe a few cute scenes (blushing, holding etc.)

  7. Dan-go says:

People who are hoping for incest, are people without siblings, really….it’s just…NOOOO…also…I WANT THAT CLOSET, ANIMEGASM

  8. Tofu says:

When translated into english the title should be “my little sister cannot be this cute” (or something along those lines) and honestly saying, his a lucky guy to have such a cute sister just needs a behavior change DON’T THINK SEXUAL GUYS! xP

i was actually looking forward to this anime and I’m glad i stuck to it because it’s definitely worth watching, few funny scenes and definitely is more vibrant with the art. (as Hato has said)

it’s not as good as K-ON NOTHING WILL BE AS GOOD AS K-ON!!! but would be a nice anime to lighten up the mood after school xD

PS: your the first person i know who’s New Zealand and watches anime xD AND WHO ALSO LIKES K-ON!!! woo~! :thumb:

    • Hato-kun says:

      I dunno, it’d be weird if I had a sibling like Kirino…

Also, it’s actually a national law in New Zealand to praise me as awesome.

      • Tofu says:

hato xD i’m not sure if you misunderstood but i meant that having kirino as a sister is kool, only if she didn’t act like how she is xP honestly i would like a sister who’s looks like her but has a more better personality and taste or else it would be really awkward like in the anime :S too bad i got two little bro’s who hate me…

:O better start praising you Hato xD *praise~ praise~* YOUR AWESOME~! xD

  9. Teabie says:

by some freaky coincidence today, i was at work talking to my male colleagues and they want to be as faaaar away from their little sisters as possible. on random curiosity (dun hit me! XD), ppl were talking abt how they would never think of their little sisters that way, haha!

i think i love this series already. i’d like to have an onii-san like that! (but not in THAT way, haha). so glad u’re reviewing it! =D

    • Hato-kun says:

This whole show just implies incest, doesn’t it. But there is none of it!

      • Teabie says:

I know!! And… u know, a small part of me is a little disappointed, and a BIG part of me is actually relieved that it didn’t. Lol!!

  10. anaaga says:

i was so scared that this is gona be incest. one incest every season is gud enuff, tyvm

  11. Shichi023 says:
