2010!!!

Kanz: We’re on 2010 and it is the year of the TAIGA (Tiger, fyi)!!! Both of us here on METANORN checked out what seems to be worth looking forward to on anime in this very special first post of the year. Yosh~!!

Dance in the Vampire Bund (Winter 2010)

The story revolves around Mina Tepes, princess-ruler of all vampires, and her “protector,” Akira. Like other vampires, Mina has been in hiding with her people for many years. Seeking to end centuries of isolation, Mina gains permission to create a special district for vampires, “The Bund”, off the coast of Japan by paying off the national debt of the Japanese government. Mina then reveals to the world the existence of vampires and her desire for both races to live together. Tensions, however, run high as fearful humans and extremist vampire factions begin to interfere with Mina’s wish for peace with the human world. (Wiki)

Tsui: Looking forward to it. Period. This is probably the only thing I’m sure to watch this Winter season. I love how dark and mature this one is. I hope SHAFT’s gonna do a great job with it. On another note, I lol’d how some attached the “Twilight” name with this one already. LULZ, here’s a note for starters. Twilight = sparkling faggots. Vampire Bund = gruesome real (and loli) vampires. So yeah, can’t wait.. just a few days left!

Kanz: I’m nervous for this one. Well, actually, not about the budget because we saw how Bakemonogatari became so successful in sales, but how SHAFT would adapt it. Let’s just hope it’ll be dark and sexy like it is on the manga and don’t put in very irrelevant harem elements. But overall, still gonna watch this. It’s time for vampires to be disgusting and creepy again, this one’s gonna swipe those sparkling vampire asses off the floor.

Durarara!! (Winter 2010)

The story takes place in Ikebukuro, a district of Tokyo. Teenage punks gang up and fight against each other. The gangsters are afraid of an urban legend called “Dullahan”, a headless rider, who rides a black motorcycle without head lights or engine sounds. Ryuugamine Mikado is a normal high school boy who seeks peculiar beings. When he moves in to Ikebukuro, a mad scramble for Dullahan’s missing head breaks out. (MAL)

Kanz: Well Tsui might have only one sure show to watch this Winter, but I have two (well, actually three :D). I’m pretty much excited for this one. Major thanks to the people who worked for Baccano getting behind this, plus a promising seiyuu cast (Miyano Mamoru, Kamiyan, FukuJun, Kana Hanazawa, etc)… I’m definitely anticipating this one ^^.

ANIME NO CHIKARA

Anime no Chikara is a special time slot where all anime-originals would be airing. This is one interesting thing to watch out for on the next year because we might get some promising anime-original titles in here, instead of the usual manga/light novel/game adaptations we’re having. So for those who want some fresh and new anime-original stories, keep an eye on their line-up for 2010.

Sora no Woto (Winter 2010)

The story of the anime is set in the future on a land that, after being devastated by long-lasting wars, has settled into quiet decline. Model and actress Juri Aikawa will play Kanata Kumika, a 15-year-old girl who fulfills her dream of enlisting in the army and joins a unit of five girls who protect a fortress. The girls also play music that reverberate across the skies over towns without people and seas without fish. (ANN)

PV: Show ▼

Kanz: Original anime projects sure are worth checking out because everything’s a surprise. I have no problems with most anime originals I encountered (Jigoku Shoujo, DtB) and I sometimes end up loving them. Moving on, I gotta love the backgrounds of this show, and the music as well. Fictionjunction and Yuki Kajiura FTW!

Tsui: So this is the first offering of Anime no Chikara. Original anime productions always hook up my interest. I don’t really like the comparisons of it already with K-ON! because I bet there’s nothing else worth comparing at all besides from the moe character designs. It also seems that this has more substance to it. *might* watch this.

Senkou no Night Raid (Spring 2010)

The story is set in Shanghai in 1931, when the Imperial Japanese Army has been dispatched to mainland China due to the relatively recent First Sino-Japanese War, Russo-Japanese War, and World War I. In this cosmopolitan city of intrigue, there is a special military spy organization called “Sakurai Kikan” that has since been buried in history. (ANN)

PV: Show ▼

Tsui: Hmm… this one gives a bit of some The Book of Bantorra vibes and a little bit of Phantom too but it’s still early to say anything because it might be different. Let’s just see. I think this one’s just a hit or an awful miss. Not high expectations at all.

Zaidan-houjin Occult Designer Gakuin (Summer 2010??)

Kanz: I think this would be another one from A-1?? Not much info released from this yet but this some kind of occult-horror-comedy.

Tsui: A possible Summer season airdate? “Occult-Horror-Comedy”? Oh hi there, Bakemonogatari.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama Anime (Spring 2010)

A romantic comedy that centers on the student council head named Misaki Ayuzawa who despises the mostly male, slovenly population at her school, which was once an all-boys school. However, Misaki’s most handsome schoolmate just discovered her secret — that she works afterschool at a maid café. (ANN)

First Look

Kanz: OMG T_____T I’m waiting for a PV so badly for this one~ That’s where I will decide if I could fully turn on my raving fangirl excitement for this one. So far with the Anime art first look, and seiyuu cast announcement, I wasn’t really impressed :\ But still, it’s a must-see because I LOVE the manga so much~

Tsui: I’m keeping away from shoujo stuff so = 3 =

Angel Beats! (Spring 2010)

First Look | PV: Show ▼

Tsui: I wasn’t really with the hype about this one but after watching the trailer, I’m now anticipating this one. PA Works (which previously worked on CANAAN and true tears) really knows what quality is. Look at that concert scene *insert some KyoAni show joke*! I just hope that it would carry out and remain that way when the show airs. Other than that, the plot seems interesting as well. For I thought it’s just some school life anime, we’re having guns and action. Definitely can’t wait for Spring 2010. *>>> obvious copy pasta from First Look post =P*

Kanz: STUNNING PV. Must see!!!

Starry Sky (Spring 2010)

First Look

Kanz: ANOTHER MUST-SEE. lawl. Spring 2010 is packed to the max, tbh xD… It’s like, all shows revealed to air that season is a must-see, I’m seriously gonna explode on the overwhelming amount of shows I’m anticipating on that season~ anyway …bishies *AAA*…

Ookiku Furikabutte 2 (Spring 2010)

Kanz: YAY F***********CK YEEEAHHH!!! YATTA YATTA YATTA x100000. I’m so pumped up for this one tbh. It feels like my life has purpose again. Lol just kidding xD. Well, Oofuri is simply one of my favorite anime ever and I’m so glad it gets a sequel it deserves. CAN’T WAIT FOR SPRING TBH. FFFFFFF SPRING IS GONNA BE THE BEST SEASON EVARRR SINCE LIKE, 2006 IF THIS CONTINUES ON.

GIANT KILLING (Spring 2010)

Official Website | Show Volume Covers ▼

In Giants Killing a ragtag bunch from East Tokyo are struggling in Japan’s top football league. The team is going through an abysmal spell right now where they are nearing the bottom of the table and have lost 5 matches in a row. The loses haven’t done much to team moral, because it was already low. Fan support, on the other hand, is looking bleak. In the world of football, once the fans turn on a team the end is near. Teams don’t recover. Coaches are fired, players are sold, and teams drop to smaller divisions where profits often prevent them from ever being successful against even mediocre top division programs. East Tokyo United, ETU, can only blame their coach right now. And Coach is ready to give up this next game to prove to his team and fans, that against the biggest club in the nation he can make this team when.

Kanz: Looks really interesting. We have another seinen sports anime to rival Oofuri this Spring season ^^. Let’s see how this one goes~ I can predict people comparing this one to Oofuri already because they air on the same season and they both have the same sports genre >.>

Tsui: Looking forward to this one! Kanzie might go on for Oofuri, but I guess this one’s for me. Looks like this will be a fun ride full of awesomeness here and there. *checks site* oh.. Studio DEEN?! Greeeaaaaat. *loses 300% anticipation*

Shiki (??? 2010)

This series is about village with a population of about 1300 people, and during one fiercely hot summer, many mysterious incidents happened one after another… (MAL)

Official Website | Show Volume Covers ▼

Tsui: Looking forward to this one. The art looks gorgeous and it overall seems promising. The PV doesn’t give much away though, so I’m gonna wait for another PV with anime footage for me to decide.

Kanz: No, this is not VK’s Shiki getting a cross-over ^^; F*CK YEAH F*CK YEAH F*CK YEAH. I’m HECK DARN SURE to watch this one!!! I love a good horror, and the manga is really atmospheric so I hope it really adapts well into anime. The anime art looks great too!!! Looking forward to this one omg!! So excited!!! Now all I need is a Rabbit Doubt anime/OVA adaptation and my horror want list is sooo fulfilled~

Shinrei Tantei Yakumo (Fall 2010)

Based on novel by Kaminaga Manabu. Shinrei Tantei Yakumo, aka Psychic Detective Yakumo, tells a story about a college student, Saitou Yakumo who is born with different eye colors. His red left eye gives him a special ability to see ghosts and spirits. He believes ghosts and spirits are bound to earth because of a certain ’cause,’ and simply eliminating that ’cause’ will let those spirits rest in peace. Being asked for help by Ozawa Haruka, they begin the investigation together. (MAL)

Official Website | Show Covers ▼

Tsui: lulz BEETRAIN.

Kanz: Oh hey, it’s just January and there’s something confirmed already that I’m sure to watch this Fall! Totally looking forward to this one. Saitou guy looks like a kickass bishie~ I don’t care about the BeeTrain thing tbh, they did great on Phantom. Btw, there’s also a shoujo manga adaptation for this one as well. So I guess this show has something worth fangirling about~! Show Covers ▼

Bakuman (Fall 2010)

Tsui: This time I can go HELL YES in this one. Definitely anticipating it. I don’t hate nor love JC Staff but I know that studio for being consistently ‘ok’ in its shows even though they make several per season. I hope they won’t screw up this one because this has potential to start off a new decade in anime with a bang!

Spring 2010 line-up sure looks on fire right now. Maid-sama, Oofuri 2, Starry Sky, Angel Beats… OMG I’m just overflowing with excitement seeing all these upcoming shows.

I also hope an Ema Tooyama manga gets an adaptation this year. Preferably Koko, because I think it was her most popular work. Hyakuen! isn’t bad too, and it can sell on the slice-of-life moe market.

Also, DO WANT 801-CHAN AND LITTLE BUSTERS!

  2. Xiao says:

SHAFT loves living on the thin thread between a huge win and the unfathomable worst, huh? I’m not gonna put any expectations on Vampire Bund yet but I can be pretty sure it’s not anything sparkly like Twilight. 😛

    DU. RA. RA. RA!! <3333333333
